  • Order in many to many relation in Django model

    I am writing a small website to store the papers I have written. The relation papers<- author is important, but the order of the name of the authors (which one is First Author, which one is second order, and so on) is also important. I am just learning Django so I don't know much. In any case so far I have done: from django.db import models class author(models.Model): Name = models.CharField(max_length=60) URLField = models.URLField(verify_exists=True, null=True, blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.Name class topic(models.Model): TopicName = models.CharField(max_length=60) def __unicode__(self): return self.TopicName class publication(models.Model): Title = models.CharField(max_length=100) Authors = models.ManyToManyField(author, null=True, blank=True) Content = models.TextField() Notes = models.TextField(blank=True) Abstract = models.TextField(blank=True) pub_date = models.DateField('date published') TimeInsertion = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True) URLField = models.URLField(verify_exists=True,null=True, blank=True) Topic = models.ManyToManyField(topic, null=True, blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.Title This work fine in the sense that I now can define who the authors are. But I cannot order them. How should I do that? Of course I could add a series of relations: first author, second author,... but it would be ugly, and would not be flexible. Any better idea? Thanks

  • Help with mysql sum and group query and managing results for jquery graph.

    I have a system I am trying to design that will retrieve information from a database, so that it can be plotted in a jquery graph. I need to retrieve the information and somehow put it in the necessary coordinates format (for example two coordinates var d = [[1269417600000, 10],[1269504000000, 15]];). My table that I am selecting from is a table that stores user votes with fields: points_id (1=vote up, 2=vote down), user_id, timestamp, topic_id What I need to do is select all the votes and somehow group them into respective days and then sum the difference between 1 votes and 2 votes for each day. I then need to somehow display the data in the appropriate plotting format shown earlier. For example April 1, 4 votes. The data needs to be separated by commas, except the last plot entry, so I am not sure how to approach that.   • Can CSS change the apparent sequence of elements, e.g. using float or position?

    Edit: answer to this question is easy, a simple example of float left and float right. I'd like to float some annotations to the left of a topic using HTML and CSS, for example the 'status' and 'author' annotations shown in the following mockup/image: For semantic reasons, perhaps: I prefer to use CSS instead of a table-based layout In the HTML, the status should appear after the corresponding heading For example: <h1>This is a section title</h1> <div class="status">approved</div> <div class="author">chris</div> <p>This is some text. Lorem ipsum.</p> <p>Lorem ipsum.</p> <h1>Different section title</h1> <div class="status">rejected</div> <p>Lorem ipsum.</p> I'd like the annotations to be after the heading in the HTML, because everything associated with (i.e. the contents of) a topic is usually whatever is after the topic's heading. However I'd like the annotations to be displayed before (to the left of) the heading, as illustrated above. Is this possible? What is the most semantic HTML, and corresponding CSS, that will render as shown above? Would you recommend a table-based layout instead? Even if that means putting the headings in a table cell? It may not be possible; this answer suggests it isn't possible ... but I don't know CSS well enough to say that for sure.

    I'm creating a simple training project. I've implemented a controller method, which deletes an item from the list. In my project the form-tag is looking like a cliuckable button. But there is a serious problem: controller's method is never triggered. How can I trigger it, using a button-tag?     Hi folks, i've been watching some YouTube vids about Lapping a CPU. I've never heard of this modding technique before and, though extreame, I was wondering if it acutally works? Assuming you lap your cpu and/or heatsink correctly, will the temps drop? When I say drop, at least a 1 degree drop is success (for the debate of this topic). To keep this topic clean, please refrain from anyone commenting on the overkill of labour, just for a 1 degree (worst case) drop, etc. This is a discussion about the theory and concept, not personal opionion of wether to lap or not.

    How do you handle the departure process when privileged or technical staff resign / get fired? Do you have a checklist of things to do to ensure the continuing operation / security of the company's infrastructure? I'm trying to come up with a nice canonical list of things that my colleagues should do when I leave (I resigned a week ago, so I've got a month to tidy up and GTFO). So far I've got: Escort them off the premises Delete their email Inbox (set all mail to forward to a catch-all) Delete their SSH keys on server(s) Delete their mysql user account(s) ... So, what's next. What have I forgotten to mention, or might be similarly useful? (endnote: Why is this off-topic? I'm a systems administrator, and this concerns continuing business security, this is definitely on-topic.)

  • Why use Google Apps Sync for Outlook to sync email?

    I currently use Outlook 2007 against an Exchange server for my email and will be moving to Google Apps. There are a number of ways to import your existing email and calendar entries into Google Apps Gmail (e.g. including the Google Apps Sync for Outlook tool), the Google Email Uploader, and copying messages using an IMAP client) so I'm covered on the import side. I'm trying to understand the use cases for the Google Apps Sync for Outlook tool http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=23333 with respect to email and calendar entries. The description says it syncs your Outlook email and calendar items with Google Apps, but doesn't using Outlook as an IMAP client against Google Apps do the same?

  • Can I use a Google Appliance/Mini to crawl and index sites I don't own?

    Maybe this is a stupid question, but... I am working with this company and they said they needed to get "permission" to crawl other people's sites. They have a Google Search Appliance And some Google Minis and want to point them at other sites to aggregate content. The end result will be something like a targeted search engine. (All the indexed sites relate to a specific topic) The only thing they will be doing is: Indexing Content from the other sites/domains Providing search functionality on their own site that searches the indexed content (like Google, displaying summaries and not the full content) The search results will provide links back to the original content Their intent is not malicious in nature, and is to provide a single site/resource for people to reference on their given topic. Is there anything illegal or fishy about this process?

    I am about to develop a little script to gather information for a chroot-jail. In my case this looks (at the first glance) pretty simple: The application has a clean rpm-install and did install almost all files into a sub-directory of /opt. My idea is: Do a find of all binaries Check their library-dependencies Record the results into a list Do a rsync of that list into the chroot-target-directory before startup of the application Now I wonder - ist there any script around that already does such a job (perl/bash/python)? So far I found only specialized solutions for single applications (like sftp-chroot). Update I see three close-votes for the reason "off topic". This is a question that arose because I have to install that ancient piece of software on a server at work. So if you still feel this is off-topic - leave a comment...

    I'm trying to build a Drill down tableview to show the information that I have in a hierachy of arrays and classes. I have 3 classes: class Video { nameVideo, id, description, user... } class Topic {nameTopic, topicID, NSMutableArray videos; } class Category {nameCategory, categoryID, NSMUtableArray topics} And then in my app delegate I defined //AppDelegate.h NSMutableArray categories; The app display the tableView with nameCategory, but then, when I select a row it shows a tableview with 0 rows. If I check, for the second view the NumberOfRowsInSection, it returns me 0.   • Programming concepts taken from the arts and humanities

    After reading Paul Graham's essay Hackers and Painters and Joel Spolsky's Advice for Computer Science College Students, I think I've finally gotten it through my thick skull that I should not be loath to work hard in academic courses that aren't "programming" or "computer science" courses. To quote the former: I've found that the best sources of ideas are not the other fields that have the word "computer" in their names, but the other fields inhabited by makers. Painting has been a much richer source of ideas than the theory of computation. — Paul Graham, "Hackers and Painters" There are certainly other, much stronger reasons to work hard in the "boring" classes. However, it'd also be neat to know that these classes may someday inspire me in programming. My question is: what are some specific examples where ideas from literature, art, humanities, philosophy, and other fields made their way into programming? In particular, ideas that weren't obviously applied the way they were meant to (like most math and domain-specific knowledge), but instead gave utterance or inspiration to a program's design and choice of names. Good examples: The term endian comes from Gulliver's Travels by Tom Swift (see here), where it refers to the trivial matter of which side people crack open their eggs. The terms journal and transaction refer to nearly identical concepts in both filesystem design and double-entry bookkeeping (financial accounting). mkfs.ext2 even says: Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done Off-topic: Learning to write English well is important, as it enables a programmer to document and evangelize his/her software, as well as appear competent to other programmers online. Trigonometry is used in 2D and 3D games to implement rotation and direction aspects. Knowing finance will come in handy if you want to write an accounting package. Knowing XYZ will come in handy if you want to write an XYZ package. Arguably on-topic: The Monad class in Haskell is based on a concept by the same name from category theory. Actually, Monads in Haskell are monads in the category of Haskell types and functions. Whatever that means...
