    In this Issue: Sigurd Snørteland, Jeff Prosise, DaveDev, Joe Zhou, Chris Eargle, John Papa(-2-, -3-), and David Anson(-2-). Shoutouts: In with the links I've listed below, Sigurd Snørteland also sent a link to this app he's working on which is actually pretty cool to see: ZuneLight. The code is not yet available. He also has a no-code demo of a Silverlight Media Center Pieter Voloshyn, Luiz Thadeu, and Jhun Iti have a very nice Silverlight image editor up: Thumba From SilverlightCream.com: WP7 - Silverlight on mobile Sigurd Snørteland submitted some links for me that have been translated to English from his blog. I hope the pages come out good because he's got a lot of good stuff on there. This one has a link to a presentation he did, and 4 projects you can load up in the emulator that he's converted to the phone: weather, worldclock, coverflow, and solitaire ... pretty cool... thanks for the links Sigurd! Understanding Page Orientation in Silverlight for Windows Phone Jeff Prosise has a really nice post up on page orientation in WP7 ... what it means to your app, how to detect it, and example code for what to do then... also love a quote by Jeff: "Silverlight for Windows Phone is the hottest thing since color TV" Why you should check out Expression Blend Behaviors when using Silverlight DaveDev has a post up describing Behaviors and why we should use them, plus tons of external links to resources, blogs, videos... all good stuff... Fiddler inspector for WCF Silverlight Polling Duplex and WCF RIA Joe Zhou announces and provides a link to a new Fiddler inspector that understands the framing in Polling Duplex and also raw binary xml and binary SOAP. Windows Phone Controls v0.7 Chris Eargle reports the release of Version 0.7 of the Windows Phone Controls project on CodePlex ... this includes a Pivot Control and a Panorama Control... both very nicely done. Binding to Silverlight ComboBox and Using SelectedValue, SelectedValuePath and DisplayMemberPath John Papa responds to a user question and put up a nice post about binding to a ComboBox and then go from the selected item to some other property ... code included No More Boxes! Exploring the PathListBox (Silverlight TV #25) Silverlight TV 25 went up on Tuesday ... thought it was going to be Thursday?? anyway ... John Papa and Adam Kinney are discussing the PathListBox and looking at some cool demos thereof. Exposing SOAP, OData, and JSON Endpoints for RIA Services (Silverlight TV 26) Since today IS Thursday, we have a new Silverlight TV, number 26, and John Papa is chatting with Deepesh Mohnani of the WCF RIA Services team about exposing all sorts of endpoints... should be something in there for everybody :) Workaround for a Silverlight data binding bug affecting various scenarios - including DataGrid+ContextMenu David Anson details the rabbit-trail he and others on the team followed in response to a problem reported via Twitter where the binding on a DataGrid seemed off by a row(!) ... weird but true, validated, and SL3/4 are bug-for-bug compatible with this too! ... But David wouldn't leave us there.. he also has a workaround. Sharing the code for a simple Silverlight 4 REST-based cloud-oriented file management app for Azure and S3 David Anson had an opportunity to build an app he's wanted to build for a while and shares it with us: Blobstore -- a small, lightweight Silverlight 4 application that acts as a basic front-end for the Windows Azure Simple Data Storage and the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) -- and remember I said he shared the source :) Stay in the 'Light! • Adventures in MVVM &ndash; ViewModel Location and Creation

    - by Brian Genisio's House Of Bilz
    More Adventures in MVVM In this post, I am going to explore how I prefer to attach ViewModels to my Views.  I have published the code to my ViewModelSupport project on CodePlex in case you'd like to see how it works along with some examples.  Some History My approach to View-First ViewModel creation has evolved over time.  I have constructed ViewModels in code-behind.  I have instantiated ViewModels in the resources sectoin of the view. I have used Prism to resolve ViewModels via Dependency Injection. I have created attached properties that use Dependency Injection containers underneath.  Of all these approaches, I continue to find issues either in composability, blendability or maintainability.  Laurent Bugnion came up with a pretty good approach in MVVM Light Toolkit with his ViewModelLocator, but as John Papa points out, it has maintenance issues.  John paired up with Glen Block to make the ViewModelLocator more generic by using MEF to compose ViewModels.  It is a great approach, but I don’t like baking in specific resolution technologies into the ViewModelSupport project. I bring these people up, not to name drop, but to give them credit for the place I finally landed in my journey to resolve ViewModels.  I have come up with my own version of the ViewModelLocator that is both generic and container agnostic.  The solution is blendable, configurable and simple to use.  Use any resolution mechanism you want: MEF, Unity, Ninject, Activator.Create, Lookup Tables, new, whatever. How to use the locator 1. Create a class to contain your resolution configuration: public class YourViewModelResolver: IViewModelResolver { private YourFavoriteContainer container = new YourFavoriteContainer(); public YourViewModelResolver() { // Configure your container } public object Resolve(string viewModelName) { return container.Resolve(viewModelName); } } Examples of doing this are on CodePlex for MEF, Unity and Activator.CreateInstance. 2. Create your ViewModelLocator with your custom resolver in App.xaml: <VMS:ViewModelLocator x:Key="ViewModelLocator"> <VMS:ViewModelLocator.Resolver> <local:YourViewModelResolver /> </VMS:ViewModelLocator.Resolver> </VMS:ViewModelLocator> 3. Hook up your data context whenever you want a ViewModel (WPF): <Border DataContext="{Binding YourViewModelName, Source={StaticResource ViewModelLocator}}"> This example uses dynamic properties on the ViewModelLocator and passes the name to your resolver to figure out how to compose it. 4. What about Silverlight? Good question.  You can't bind to dynamic properties in Silverlight 4 (crossing my fingers for Silverlight 5), but you CAN use string indexing: <Border DataContext="{Binding [YourViewModelName], Source={StaticResource ViewModelLocator}}"> But, as John Papa points out in his article, there is a silly bug in Silverlight 4 (as of this writing) that will call into the indexer 6 times when it binds.  While this is little more than a nuisance when getting most properties, it can be much more of an issue when you are resolving ViewModels six times.  If this gets in your way, the solution (as pointed out by John), is to use an IndexConverter (instantiated in App.xaml and also included in the project): <Border DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource ViewModelLocator}, Converter={StaticResource IndexConverter}, ConverterParameter=YourViewModelName}"> It is a bit uglier than the WPF version (this method will also work in WPF if you prefer), but it is still not all that bad.  Conclusion This approach works really well (I suppose I am a bit biased).  It allows for composability from any mechanisim you choose.  It is blendable (consider serving up different objects in Design Mode if you wish... or different constructors… whatever makes sense to you).  It works in Cider.  It is configurable.  It is flexible.  It is the best way I have found to manage View-First ViewModel hookups.  Thanks to the guys mentioned in this article for getting me to something I love using.  Enjoy.

  • Three Key Tenets of Optimal Social Collaboration

    - by kellsey.ruppel
    Today's blog post comes to us from John Bruswick! This post is an abridged version of John’s white paper in which he discusses three principals to optimize social collaboration within an enterprise.   By john[email protected], Oracle Principal Sales Consultant Effective social collaboration is actionable, deeply contextual and inherently derives its value from business entities outside of itself. How does an organization begin the journey from traditional, siloed collaboration to natural, business entity based social collaboration? Successful enablement of enterprise social collaboration requires that organizations embrace the following tenets and understand that traditional collaborative functionality has inherent limits - it is innovation and integration in accordance with the following tenets that will provide net-new efficiency benefits. Key Tenets of Optimal Social Collaboration Leverage a Ubiquitous Social Fabric - Collaborative activities should be supported through a ubiquitous social fabric, providing a personalized experience, broadcasting key business events and connecting people and business processes.  This supports education of participants working in and around a specific business entity that will benefit from an implicit capture of tacit knowledge and provide continuity between participants.  In the absence of this ubiquitous platform activities can still occur but are essentially siloed causing frequent duplication of effort across similar tasks, with critical tacit knowledge eluding capture. Supply Continuous Context to Support Decision Making and Problem Solving - People generally engage in collaborative behavior to obtain a decision or the resolution for a specific issue.  The time to achieve resolution is referred to as "Solve Time".  Users have traditionally been forced to switch or "alt-tab" between business systems and synthesize their own context across disparate systems and processes.  The constant loss of context forces end users to exert a large amount of effort that could be spent on higher value problem solving. Extend the Collaborative Lifecycle into Back Office - Beyond the solve time from decision making efforts, additional time is expended formalizing the resolution that was generated from collaboration in a system of record.  Extending collaboration to result in the capture of an explicit decision maximizes efficiencies, creating a closed circuit for a particular thread.  This type of structured action may exist today within your organization's customer support system around opening, solving and closing support issues, but generally does not extend to Sales focused collaborative activities. Excelling in the Unstructured Future We will always have to deal with unstructured collaborative processes within our organizations.  Regardless of the participants and nature of the collaborate process, two things are certain – the origination and end points are generally known and relate to a business entity, perhaps a customer, opportunity, order, shipping location, product or otherwise. Imagine the benefits if an organization's key business systems supported a social fabric, provided continuous context and extended the lifecycle around the collaborative decision making to include output into back office systems of record.   The technical hurdle to embracing optimal social collaboration would fall away, leaving the company with an opportunity to focus on and refine how processes were approached.  Time and resources previously required could then be reallocated to focusing on innovation to support competitive differentiation unique to your business. How can you achieve optimal social collaboration? Oracle Social Network enables business users to collaborate with each other using a broad range of collaboration styles and integrates data from a variety of sources and business applications -- allowing you to achieve optimal social collaboration. Looking to learn more? Read John's white paper, where he discusses in further detail the three principals to optimize social collaboration within an enterprise.

    Hi there, I've got a 32 bit application that connects normally to a DB2 database. (written in C) When I run it on a machine with a DB2 64 bit client, I get a SQLCODE -1390 from connect. (Win7 64 Bit, DB2 V9.7 client 64 bit) Connecting from the command line works (db2 connect to ...) With a 32 Bit DB2 client on the same Win7 64 Bit machine, the connect also works. Does anyone has an idea how to fix it ? Best regards Oliver

  • Source Controlled Database Data import strategies.

    - by H. Abraham Chavez
    So I've gotten a project and got the db team sold on source control for the db (weird right?) anyway, the db already exists, it is massive, and the application is very dependent on the data. The developers need up to three different flavors of the data to work against when writing SPROCs and so on. Obviously I could script out data inserts. But my question is what tools or strategies do you use to build a db from source control and populate it with multiple large sets of data?

  • SqlCommand() ExecuteNonQuery() truncates command text.

    - by H. Abraham Chavez
    I'm building a custom db deployment utility, I need to read text files containing sql scripts and execute them against the database. Pretty easy stuff, so far so good. However I've encountered a snag, the contents of the file are read successfully and entirely, but once passed into the SqlCommand and then executed with SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery only part of the script is executed. I fired up Profiler and confirmed that my code is not passing all of the script. private void ExecuteScript(string cmd, SqlConnection sqlConn, SqlTransaction trans) { SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand(cmd, sqlConn, trans); sqlCmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; sqlCmd.CommandTimeout = 9000000; // for testing sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } // I call it like this, readDMLScript contains 543 lines of T-SQL string readDMLScript = ReadFile(dmlFile); ExecuteScript(readDMLScript, sqlConn, trans);

    I have a ViewModel class to encapsulate "Personal" and "Business" models. My problem is that both models have a property called "Email" and the model binding is not able to make a distinction between the too. I read that [Bind(Prefix = ... is used to resolved this issue, but I have not been able to see a concise example on how to achieve this. SO community please help. public class BusinessFormViewModel { public Business Business { get; set; } public ContactPerson ContactPerson { get; set; } public BusinessFromView(Business business, ContactPerson contactPerson) { Business = business; ContactPerson = contactPerson; } }

  • R error message about variable lengths

Unfortunately, when I move to run an logit model (using the Zelig package), I get an error message that the variable length differ for this variable. ## Independent Variable - Partisanship (ANES 2004) data04$V043114 part <- data04$V043114 attributes(part) summary(part) partb < part partb[part %in% levels(part)[4]] <- NA partb[part %in% levels(part)[5]] <- NA partb[part %in% levels(part)[6]] <- NA partb[part %in% levels(part)[7]] <- NA partb <- factor(partb) attributes(partb) summary(partb) table(partb) table(part, partb) cbind(part, partb) partisan041 <- partb partisan042 <- as.numeric(partb) summary(partisan041) summary(partisan042) ## Regression Model - ANES 2004 ## anes04one <- zelig(trade041a ~ age042 + education042 + personal042 + economy042 + partisan042 + employment042 + union042 + home042 + market042 + race042 + income042 + gender042, model="logit", data=data04) summary(anes04one) #Error in model.frame.default(formula = trade041a ~ age042 + education042 + : # variable lengths differ (found for 'partisan042')

  • Bulletproof way to DROP and CREATE a database under Continuous Integration.

    - by H. Abraham Chavez
    I am attempting to drop and recreate a database from my CI setup. But I'm finding it difficult to automate the dropping and creation of the database, which is to be expected given the complexities of the db being in use. Sometimes the process hangs, errors out with "db is currently in use" or just takes too long. I don't care if the db is in use, I want to kill it and create it again. Does some one have a straight shot method to do this? alternatively does anyone have experience dropping all objects in the db instead of dropping the db itself? USE master --Create a database IF EXISTS(SELECT name FROM sys.databases WHERE name = 'mydb') BEGIN ALTER DATABASE mydb SET SINGLE_USER --or RESTRICTED_USER --WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE DROP DATABASE uAbraham_MapSifterAuthority END CREATE DATABASE mydb;

  • SQL Query to return maximums over decades

    - by Abraham Lincoln
    My question is the following. I have a baseball database, and in that baseball database there is a master table which lists every player that has ever played. There is also a batting table, which tracks every players' batting statistics. I created a view to join those two together; hence the masterplusbatting table. CREATE TABLE `Master` ( `lahmanID` int(9) NOT NULL auto_increment, `playerID` varchar(10) NOT NULL default '', `nameFirst` varchar(50) default NULL, `nameLast` varchar(50) NOT NULL default '', PRIMARY KEY (`lahmanID`), KEY `playerID` (`playerID`), ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=18968 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; CREATE TABLE `Batting` ( `playerID` varchar(9) NOT NULL default '', `yearID` smallint(4) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `teamID` char(3) NOT NULL default '', `lgID` char(2) NOT NULL default '', `HR` smallint(3) unsigned default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`playerID`,`yearID`,`stint`), KEY `playerID` (`playerID`), KEY `team` (`teamID`,`yearID`,`lgID`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; Anyway, my first query involved finding the most home runs hit every year since baseball began, including ties. The query to do that is the following.... select f.yearID, f.nameFirst, f.nameLast, f.HR from ( select yearID, max(HR) as HOMERS from masterplusbatting group by yearID )as x inner join masterplusbatting as f on f.yearID = x.yearId and f.HR = x.HOMERS This worked great. However, I now want to find the highest HR hitter in each decade since baseball began. Here is what I tried. select f.yearID, truncate(f.yearid/10,0) as decade,f.nameFirst, f.nameLast, f.HR from ( select yearID, max(HR) as HOMERS from masterplusbatting group by yearID )as x inner join masterplusbatting as f on f.yearID = x.yearId and f.HR = x.HOMERS group by decade You can see that I truncated the yearID in order to get 187, 188, 189 etc instead of 1897, 1885,. I then grouped by the decade, thinking that it would give me the highest per decade, but it is not returning the correct values. For example, it's giving me Adrian Beltre with 48 HR's in 2004 but everyone knows that Barry Bonds hit 73 HR in 2001. Can anyone give me some pointers?

  • How to write efficient code for extracting Noun phrases?

    - by Arun Abraham
    I am trying to extract phrases using rules such as the ones mentioned below on text which has been POS tagged 1) NNP - NNP (- indicates followed by) 2) NNP - CC - NNP 3) VP - NP etc.. I have written code in this manner, Can someone tell me how i can do in a better manner. List<String> nounPhrases = new ArrayList<String>(); for (List<HasWord> sentence : documentPreprocessor) { //System.out.println(sentence.toString()); System.out.println(Sentence.listToString(sentence, false)); List<TaggedWord> tSentence = tagger.tagSentence(sentence); String lastTag = null, lastWord = null; for (TaggedWord taggedWord : tSentence) { if (lastTag != null && taggedWord.tag().equalsIgnoreCase("NNP") && lastTag.equalsIgnoreCase("NNP")) { nounPhrases.add(taggedWord.word() + " " + lastWord); //System.out.println(taggedWord.word() + " " + lastWord); } lastTag = taggedWord.tag(); lastWord = taggedWord.word(); } } In the above code, i have done only for NNP followed by NNP extraction, how can i generalise it so that i can add other rules too. I know that there are libraries available for doing this , but wanted to do this manually.

  • Securing Coredata objects

    - by Abraham Durairaj
    I am working on an application which has got some sensitive information. I am aware that it would be difficult for a layman to hack into iphone to get the information. If I use SQLite directly I have something called SQLite Cipher to encrypt / encode the database. Is there anyway where I can have the same way of encrypting the coredata so it makes it hard for hackers to get into the data. Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks in Advance

  • Remove duplicates from a sorted ArrayList while keeping some elements from the duplicates

    - by js82
    Okay at first I thought this would be pretty straightforward. But I can't think of an efficient way to solve this. I figured a brute force way to solve this but that's not very elegant. I have an ArrayList. Contacts is a VO class that has multiple members - name, regions, id. There are duplicates in ArrayList because different regions appear multiple times. The list is sorted by ID. Here is an example: Entry 0 - Name: John Smith; Region: N; ID: 1 Entry 1 - Name: John Smith; Region: MW; ID: 1 Entry 2 - Name: John Smith; Region: S; ID: 1 Entry 3 - Name: Jane Doe; Region: NULL; ID: 2 Entry 4 - Name: Jack Black; Region: N; ID: 3 Entry 6 - Name: Jack Black; Region: MW; ID: 3 Entry 7 - Name: Joe Don; Region: NE; ID: 4 I want to transform the list to below by combining duplicate regions together for the same ID. Therefore, the final list should have only 4 distinct elements with the regions combined. So the output should look like this:- Entry 0 - Name: John Smith; Region: N,MW,S; ID: 1 Entry 1 - Name: Jane Doe; Region: NULL; ID: 2 Entry 2 - Name: Jack Black; Region: N,MW; ID: 3 Entry 3 - Name: Joe Don; Region: NE; ID: 4 What are your thoughts on the optimal way to solve this? I am not looking for actual code but ideas or tips to go about the best way to get it done. Thanks for your time!!!

  • Variable number of two-dimensional arrays into one big array

    - by qlb
    I have a variable number of two-dimensional arrays. The first dimension is variable, the second dimension is constant. i.e.: Object[][] array0 = { {"tim", "sanchez", 34, 175.5, "bla", "blub", "[email protected]"}, {"alice", "smith", 42, 160.0, "la", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... }; Object[][] array1 = { {"john", "sdfs", 34, 15.5, "a", "bl", "[email protected]"}, {"joe", "smith", 42, 16.0, "a", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... }; ... Object[][] arrayi = ... I'm generating these arrays with a for-loop: for (int i = 0; i < filter.length; i++) { MyClass c = new MyClass(filter[i]); //data = c.getData(); } Where "filter" is another array which is filled with information that tells "MyClass" how to fill the arrays. "getData()" gives back one of the i number of arrays. Now I just need to have everything in one big two dimensional array. i.e.: Object[][] arrayComplete = { {"tim", "sanchez", 34, 175.5, "bla", "blub", "[email protected]"}, {"alice", "smith", 42, 160.0, "la", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... {"john", "sdfs", 34, 15.5, "a", "bl", "[email protected]"}, {"joe", "smith", 42, 16.0, "a", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... ... }; In the end, I need a 2D array to feed my Swing TableModel. Any idea on how to accomplish this? It's blowing my mind right now.

  • Excel VBA Text To Column

    - by Pat
    This is what I currently have: H101 John Doe Jane Doe Jack Doe H102 John Smith Jane Smith Katie Smith Jack Smith And here is what I want: H101 John Doe H101 Jane Doe H101 Jack Doe H102 John Smith H102 Jane Smith H102 Katie Smith H102 Jack Smith Obviously I want to do this on a bigger scale. The number of columns is between 1 & 6, so I cant limit it that way. I was able to get a script that allows me to put each individual on one row. However, I am having a hard time getting the first column to copy over to each row. Sub ToOneColumn() Dim i As Long, k As Long, j As Integer Application.ScreenUpdating = False Columns(2).Insert i = 0 k = 1 While Not IsEmpty(Cells(k, 3)) j = 3 While Not IsEmpty(Cells(k, j)) i = i + 1 Cells(i, 1) = Cells(k, 1) //CODE IN QUESTION Cells(i, 2) = Cells(k, j) Cells(k, j).Clear j = j + 1 Wend k = k + 1 Wend Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub Like I said, it was working fine to get everyone each on their own row, but can't figure out how to get that first column. It seems like it should be so simple, but it's bugging me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    - by kiwicptn
    I am trying to round up cases when it makes sense to use a map (set of key-value entries). So far I have five categories (see below). Assuming more exist, what are they? Please limit each answer to one unique category, put up an example, and vote up the fascinating ones. Property values (like a bean) age -> 30 sex -> male loc -> calgary Histograms peter -> 1 john -> 7 paul -> 5 Presence, with O(1) performance peter -> 1 john -> 1 paul -> 1 Functions peter -> treatPeter() john -> dealWithJohn() paul -> managePaul() Conversion peter -> pierre john -> jean paul -> paul

  • Jquery: Create hidden attributes? I need to reduce tag bulkyness.

    - by Dan
    I'm sure we've all done this before: <a id="232" rel="link_to_user" name="user_details" class="list hoverable clickable selectable"> USER #232 </a> But then we say, oh my, I need more ways to store tracking info about this div! <a id="232-343-22" rel="link_to_user:fotomeshed" name="user_details" class="groupcolor-45 elements-698 list hoverable clickable selectable"> User: John Doe </a> And the sickness keeps growing. We just keep on packing it inside that poor little element and it's attributes. All so we can keep track of who it is. So with my limited knowledge of JS, someone please tell me how to do something like this: <a id="33">USER #33</a> $(#33).attr({title:'User Record','username':'john', 'group_color':'green', 'element_num':78}); So here we just added what I would call invisible attributes, because we just played God and made those attributes up on the fly like it was no problem. The cool part is that these would be kept in their own little object somewhere in variable land. NOT in the tag itself. Then later on, in a code nested far far away, be able to say, oh, i wonder what group_color John is... user_group_color = $(table).find(a['username':'john']).attr('group_color'); THEN BAM!!!! POW!!!! alert(user_group_color + " is a bitchin color!"); You get to know his group color... all without adding a bunch of bloated element tracking nonsense into our tags. So does this sort of thing exist? If not, how do I make it?

  • Graph-structured databases and Php

    - by stagas
    I want to use a graph database using php. Can you point out some resources on where to get started? Is there any example code / tutorial out there? Or are there any other methods of storing data that relate to each other in totally random/abstract situations? - Very abstract example of the relations needed: John relates to Mary, both relate to School, John is Tall, Mary is Short, John has Blue Eyes, Mary has Green Eyes, query I want is which people are related to 'Short people that have Green Eyes and go to School' - answer John - Another example: TrackA -> ArtistA -> ArtistB -> AlbumA -----> [ label ] -> AlbumB -----> [ A ] -> TrackA:Remix -> Genre:House -> [ Album ] -----> [ label ] TrackB -> [ C ] [ B ] Example queries: Which Genre is TrackB closer to? answer: House - because it's related to Album C, which is related to TrackA and is related to Genre:House Get all Genre:House related albums of Label A : result: AlbumA, AlbumB - because they both have TrackA which is related to Genre:House - It is possible in MySQL but it would require a fixed set of attributes/columns for each item and a complex non-flexible query, instead I need every attribute to be an item by itself and instead of 'belonging' to something, to be 'related' to something.

  • LINQ XML query at c# wp7

    - by Karloss
    I am working at Windows Phone 7 C#, Xaml, XML and LINQ programming. I need to organize search by part of the name at following XML: <Row> <Myday>23</Myday> <Mymonth>12</Mymonth> <Mynames>Alex, Joanna, Jim</Mynames> </Row> <Row> <Myday>24</Myday> <Mymonth>12</Mymonth> <Mynames>John, David</Mynames> </Row> I have following query: var myData = from query in loadedData.Descendants("Row") where query.Element("Mynames").Value.Contains("Jo") select new Kalendars { Myday = (int)query.Element("Myday"), Mymonth = (int)query.Element("Mymonth"), Mynames = (string)query.Element("Mynames") }; listBoxSearch.ItemsSource = myData; Query problem is, that it will return full part of the names like "Alex, Joanna, Jim" and "John, David". How can i get only Joanna and John? Second question is how it is possible to do that user enters ...Value.Contains("jo") and query still returns Joanna and John? Possible solution (needs some corrections) public string Search_names { get { return search_names; } set { string line = this.Mynames; string[] names = line.Split(new[] { ", " }, StringSplitOptions.None); var jos = from name in names where name.Contains("is") select name; // ["Joanna"] // HOW TO BIND search_names? } }
