  • Integrating a Custom Compiler with the Visual Studio IDE

    Background: I want to create a custom VB compiler, extending the "original" compiler, to handle my custom compile-time attributes. Question: after I've created my custom compiler and I've got an executable file capable of compiling VB code via the standard command-line interface, how do I integrate this compiler with the Visual Studio IDE? (such that pressing "compile" or "build" will make use of my compiler instead of the default compiler). EDIT: (Correct me if i'm wrong) From the reactions here, I see this question is a bit shocking, so I shall further explain my needs and background: .NET provides us with a great mechanism called Attributes. As far as I understand, making attributes apply their intended behavior upon the attributed element (assembly, module, class, method, etc.) - attributes must be reflected upon. So the real trick here is reflecting and applying behavior at the right spot. Lets take Serialization for example: We decorate a class with the Serializable attribute. We then pass an instance of the class to the formatter's Serialize method. The formatter reflects upon the instance, checking if it has the Serializable attribute, and acting accordingly. Now, if we examine the Synchronization, Flags, Obsolete and CLSCompliant attributes, then the real question is: who reflects upon them? At least in some cases, it has to be the compiler (and/or IDE). Therefore, it seems that if I wish to create custom attributes that change an element's behavior regardless of any specific consumer, i must extend the compiler to reflect upon them at compilation. Of course, these are not my personal insights: the book "Applied .NET Attributes" provides a complete example of creating a custom attribute and a custom C# compiler to reflect upon that attribute at compilation (the example is used to implement "java-style checked exceptions").

  • IDE framework for a dynamic language?

    Let's say I have a super-wonderful new programming language, and I want there to be an IDE for it. What IDE platform/framework could I use to get this done efficiently? I mean things like: Collection of files in a project, searching them, tabbed/split editors etc. — the basics. Syntax highlighting and auto-indent/reformatting. Providing the user interface for code completion — hit tab, get a list (I'll have to implement the necessary partial evaluation myself (it's a dynamic language)). This is the feature I'm most wishing for. Built-in parser framework which is good at recovering from the sort of syntax errors occurring in code that is in the middle of being edited would be helpful. In-editor annotation of syntax/runtime error locations fed back from the language runtime. REPL (interactive evaluator) interaction with the same completion as in the editor. This system should be Linux/Mac/Windows cross-platform (in that priority order). Being implemented in Java (or rather, accepting language plugins written in Java) is possibly useful, but anything else is worth a try too.

    Hello all, Can someone tell me if this is a bug in the SDK/IDE: Any custom or extended layout I add to my layout XML causes the IDE to ignore the fact that there are any child views of that layout (they just disappear from the outline view/window), thus making them uneditable via the properties view/window. (I need to extend a layout to make onSetAlpha() public) FYI: I'm developing for Android 1.5 and up, using all the latest plug-ins/updates in Eclipse Here is a simple example of a layout XML and the extended Layout that causes this error. It's assumed that the drive in question is both the system drive and the only drive. A modest AMD Sempron-based home computer with adequate DDR memory running Windows XP Home SP3.     I'm following the Java EE firstcup tutorial with Netbeans 6.8 and it says: With the firstcup project selected in the Projects pane, expand Configuration File and double-click faces-config.xml. Click PageFlow in the top left corner of the editor pane to display the visual navigation editor. I can't find that PageFlow mentioned. Where should I look for that button in the IDE? Am I missing any plugin or something?

  • NetBeans not liking libraries in lib-src

    I'm working on a project with a group that is using Eclipse, but I'm using Netbeans. Up until today this wasn't an issue. When updating from the repo they have added some source code as a library under a directory called /lib-src. When I try to compile the code I get an error that it can't find certain packages... these are the packages under /lib-src. Using NetBeans I can add the library as a folder so now the references to those packages are happy.   • Missing taglibrary in Netbeans Hibernate tutorial xhtml file?

    I just finished the Netbeans introduction to Hibernate tutorial ( http://netbeans.org/kb/docs/web/hibernate-webapp.html#01 ) and I am getting the following error: "This page calls for XML namespace declared with prefix br but no taglibrary exists" Now, I have seen a similar question somewhere else: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5430327 but the answer is not listed there. Or, if it is, then I am clearly missing it -- line one of my index.xhtml file reads "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml". It also does not explain why, when I reload localhost:8080, the message disappears. Netbeans keeps saying the version of PHPUnit is too old and that I need at least 3.3.0, while I am using 3.3.9. Screenschots: I haven't editted anything about the files, I just downloaded the tgz, unzipped it all and put up the link.

    Hi I am using Netbeans 6.8 on ubuntu 10.04 and am having trouble installing RESTful Authentication. I have gone to Install Generators, selected restful_authentication and installed it - all messages from Gem show that it has installed and it shows under the Installed tab. However, when I come to use it by clicking on the Generator drop down there is no sign of it. I beleive ther should be a selection saying "authenticated".

    i am particularly using netbeans gui editor and i am new to gui i have a jframe created and I added jtabbedpanel. inside the jtabbedpanel i have 2 panels that i call standard and compact i have set standardPanel = new ImagePanel(); which ImagePanel.java is located on different java file how am I suppose to put a panel on different file for reusability ? i obviously dont want all the codes in a single file. is this the right way to design a gui ? thanks

    My application has recently started throwing NoClassDefFoundError errors when I am running my application from within NetBeans. It never used to do this. And when I run this outside of NetBeans using the command line argument that it provides once built, these errors are not produced Is this a bug with Netbeans?   • NetBeans shortcut key for collapsing/expanding a method

    JAVA - NETBEANS This is an IDE question I am always working with collapsed methods, because I want to be able to see my methods all together. This is a little time consuming because I have to use the mouse to scroll up to the declaration of the method and click on the - (minus) icon. And then respectively go to the method I want to work on and click on the + (plus) icon. Is there a way through a keyboard shortcut to do the collapse (and respectively the expand)?
