  • Master File Table Corrupt, any way to save data?

    hi. I've used search, but none of the results match my problem so I didn't have to ask separate question. I've Installed Windows 7 RTM recently and since then partitions located on one of my HDDs have gone "crazy". They used to "freeze" and didn't open in explorer for some time (minute or two, usually), sometimes all partitions of the drive wouldn't show until reboot and finally, one of those partitions started showing "disk structure is corrupted and unreadable" warning, it appeared in Disk Management window as RAW and chkdsk showed "mft corrupt". There were no important data on the partition and I didn't have enough time to analyze the problem at the moment, so I just reformatted it and ran antivirus scan on system. After that problem settled for some time, but yesterday the problematic HDD vanished again from the system. After reboot chkdsk identified mft of four partitions corrupt and now they are all in same conditions as the above mentioned one. But the difference is that the files stored in them are extremely important. and just for info: I upgraded from Win7 build 7077, but had some performance issues, so I reformatted system drive and installed fresh Win7 RTM on it. I've downloaded TestDisk and it shows all the partitions marked as NTFS (not RAW) and my knowledge of the program wasn't sufficient to obtain any other info from it :-) and the images that could help describe the problem (sorry, I'm not allowed to post images and more than one hyperlink): http:// img22.imageshack.us/img22/5909/chkdskz.jpg http:// img198.imageshack.us/img198/5576/computeray.jpg I'm interested, is there a way to let me restore the MFT or just access files so I can backup them before reformatting the drive.     I know that learning a language, you can simply buy a book, follow the examples, and whenever possible try the exercises. But what I'm really looking is how to master the language once you've learned it. Now I know that experience is one major factor, but what about learning the internals of the language, what is the underlying structure, etc. There are articles out there saying read this book, read that book, make this game and that game. But to me this doesn't mean to master a language. I want to be able to read other people's code and understand it, no matter how hard that is. To understand when to use a function and when another, etc etc. The list could go on and on but I believe I've made the point. :) And finally, take whatever language as an example if needed, though best would be if C was taken as an example.

    I have Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop with Windows 7 installed on it.Also I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a separate drive.I want to install Adobe Master Collection CS6 on Ubuntu 12.10.I tried using wine but what wine does is,it just installs the software & doesn't allow me to use it.While I click on any Adobe product say Adobe Photoshop & hit enter to run it it pops out an error message. How should I tackle this?Is there any other software apart from virtual Machine Ware or Wine to install & successfully run Adobe Master Collection CS6 in Ubuntu 12.10?

    In my quest to keep my fingers on the pulse of MDM, I recently found a pretty interesting article.  The article was published in Information Week and provides some interesting statistics from a recent survey conducted by the analyst firm, The Information Difference.  Let's take a look: Of the 130 organizations surveyed, 53% have live operational MDM implementations 81% of those with live operational MDM implementations report broad success - a huge improvement over 2011's 54% 64% developed a business case prior to their MDM deployment, while a daring 32% went ahead without a business case.    The article goes on to talk about the shift in vendors from focusing on customer data and product information management to one that is oriented around multi-domain master data management as well as other realities around MDM.  Take a look at the article.   • Hadoop:Only master node does the work

    I've setup a Hadoop 2.2 cluster with 1 master node(namenode and secondary namenode) and 3 slave nodes(datanode and namenode on each one).All of the machines use Linux Mint 64bit. When I run my MapReduce program, writen in Java, I can only see that master node is using extra CPU and RAM. Slave nodes are not doing a thing. I've checked the logs from all of the namenodes and there is nothing wrong with the namenodes on slave nodes. Resource Manager is running and all of the slave nodes can see the Resource Manager. I used this http://n0where.net/hadoop-2-2-multi-node-cluster-setup/ tutorial to configure my nodes. Datanodes are working in terms of distributed data storing but I can't see any indication of distributed data processing. Do I have to configure the xml configuration files in some other way so all of the machines will process data while I'm running my MapReduce Job?

  • Old operational master still thinks it is the "one"

    Hi there, I have a domain with 3 AD servers for now i'll just call them: AD01 (Win 2008 GC, Operations master) AD02 (Win 2008 GC) AD03 (Win 2003 GC) A couple of months there was some hardware issues with AD01 so the operations master, PDC and Infrastructure Master was moved to AD02. All machines where on while this was happening. AD01 (Win 2008 GC) AD02 (Win 2008 GC, Operations master) AD03 (Win 2003 GC) AD01 was then shutdown for a month. Upon starting this machine up with replaced hardware (NIC and RAID card) i now have a weird problem. AD01 Thinks it is operations master still in AD on the local box AD02 & AD03 Thinks AD02 is operations master in AD on both boxes When running DCDIAG on AD01 i get a number of issues (listed below) When running "dcdiag /test:advertising" on AD01: Doing primary tests Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\AD01 Starting test: Advertising Warning: DsGetDcName returned information for \\ad02.domain.local, when we were trying to reach AD01. SERVER IS NOT RESPONDING or IS NOT CONSIDERED SUITABLE. ......................... Is there a programmatic way of tweaking the HYPERLINK field without losing the master/sub-document relationship? I've got this far ...     I'm working with a Sun x4540 unit with two pools and newly-installed ZIL (OCZ Vertex 2 Pro) and L2ARC (Intel X25-M) devices. Since I need to keep these two pools in the near-term, I'd like to know how to partition these devices to serve both pools of data. I've tried format, parted and fdisk and can't quite seem to get the right combination to generate recognizable partitions for zpool add. The OS in this case is NexentaStor, but I will also need this for general OpenSolaris solutions.

  • What's a good Java-based Master-Slave communication mechanism?

    I'm creating a Java application that requires master-slave communication between JVMs, possibly residing on the same physical machine. There will be a "master" server running inside a JEE application server (i.e. JBoss) that will have "slave" clients connect to it and dynamically register itself for communication (that is the master will not know the IP addresses/ports of the slaves so cannot be configured in advance). The master server acts as a controller that will dole work out to the slaves and the slaves will periodically respond with notifications, so there would be bi-directional communication. I was originally thinking of RPC-based systems where each side would be a server, but it could get complicated, so I'd prefer a mechanism where there's an open socket and they talk back and forth. I'm looking for a communication mechanism that would be low-latency where the messages would be mostly primitive types, so no serious serialization is necessary. Here's what I've looked at: RMI JMS: Built-in to Java, the "slave" clients would connect to the existing ConnectionFactory in the application server. JAX-WS/RS: Both master and slave would be servers exposing an RPC interface for bi-directional communication. JGroups/Hazelcast: Use shared distributed data structures to facilitate communication. Memcached/MongoDB: Use these as "queues" to facilitate communication, though the clients would have to poll so there would be some latency. Thrift: This does seem to keep a persistent connection, but not sure how to integrate/embed a Thrift server into JBoss WebSocket/Raw Socket: This would work, but require a lot more custom code than I'd like. Is there any technology I'm missing? Edit: Also looked at: JMX: Have the client connect to JBoss' JMX server and receive JMX notifications for bidirectional comms.

  • virtual disk image - file or partition

    I'm looking at the differences between using a file versus a partition to store a virtual disk image in VM use. The common knowledge is that partition-based images are faster than file-based images because of a decreased overhead. It makes sense, but I've never seen any actual numbers. My own testing bears out a different result. When I benchmark a direct-to-partition virtual disk, then format that same partition with ext4, create a virtual disk image stored on that ext4 filesystem, and then benchmark that, I see no speedup at all for the direct-to-partition virtual disk. Instead on some systems the file-based image is even faster (possibly due to host OS caching or something like that). This test was repeated many times on many systems, with fairly consistent results. So perhaps throwing out the performance justification, is it still considered better to use a partition rather than a virtual disk image? Is there some other reason why direct partition access is better than image files? Or perhaps is there some reason to go the other way around? Perhaps an advantage in one of the virtual disk file formats that you don't get with raw partition images?

  • Win2008: Boot from mirrored dynamic disk fails!

    Hello. I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter and I got two 1.5TB S-ATA2 hard disks installed and I want to make a soft raid. (I do know the disadvantages of softraid vs. hardraid) I have following partitions on Disk 0: (1) Microsoft Reserved 100 MB (dynamic), created during setup (2) System Partition 100 GB (dynamic) (3) Data partition, 1.2TB (dynamic) I already mirrored these contents to Disk 1. Its contents are: (1) System partition mirror, 100 GB (dynamic) (2) Data partition, 1.2 TB mirror (dynamic) (3) Unusued 100 MB (dynamic) -- is from "MSR" of Disk 0, created during setup. Since data and system partition are mirrored, I expect that my system works if disk 0 would fail. But it doesn't. If I force booting on disk 0: Works (I get the 2 bootloader screen) If I force booting on disk 1 (F8 for BBS), nothing happens. I got a blank black screen with the blinking caret. I already made disk1/partition1 active with diskpart, but it still does not boot from this drive. Please help. Both partitions are in "MBR" partition style. They look equal, except the missing "MSR" partition at the partition beginning (which seems to be not relevant to booting). Regards Daniel Marschall

  • In need of assistance for recovering a lost partition

    The program that has worked for the most part is Active@ Partition Recovery. I'm so close but yet so far from recovering my data. Okay so here's what happens. In the following screenshot (blanked out a folder and filename with profanity in case some of you guys are at work :P), it detects the partition I accidentally deleted with ALL 100% of my data listed. Of course, I didn't write ANY data to that drive after I did this. But when I click "recover" and finishes the recovery process, in Windows I click on the partition that was just was just recovered... It's EMPTY. The program seems to be able to see my lost files, but when I recover the partition windows doesn't seem to think the same =( Things I tried: I tried running a chkdsk /r /f after I recovered the partition, apparently it couldn't find any errors. Tried using other software like TestDisk to recover the partition, but they (all) act similar to Windows in that it detects the (missing) partition but when I browse it there's no files. The partition is there along with all the file and data information. The sector information is also in the screenshot, is there any way I can use this to my advantage in recovering my data? Other information: Dualboot: Win8 / Ubuntu 12.10 x64 1TB Internal desktop drive, GPT Layout, NTFS formatted drive, 64K allocation size.
