• Sharepoint as a replacement for N-Tiers Applications and OLTP Databases

  All, At my current company, we are looking to replace all ASP.NET Applications and OLTP databases with Sharepoint 2007. Our applications and databases deal with 10,000+ rows, and we have 5,000 + clients actively using the system. Our Implementation of sharepoint would replace all n-tier applications. Does anyone have an experience in implementing this? My current viewpoint is that Sharepoint is not built for or adequate enough to handle this type of application. Can it really replace application with hundreds of pages, and hundreds of tables? Support Data warehousing operations? Support high performance OLTP operations? Provide a robust development environment? Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thanks S.O. Community.

• Uploading files wont work on production server

  I have a php script which uploads images to a temporary folder on the server. This works on my local computer with the local (virtual) server. (wampserver). However, on the production server (linux) I cant get it working. Everything is loading as it should, except for that the file doesn't show up on the server. My Q is, is there anything I should think about when moving to a production server with uploading images or files? I have set permissions on the folder where the images are supposed to go to 777 and also the php-code which uploads them to 777. Thanks

  I am venturing on making a website with a database for baseball games for an intramural league. I have made databases before, but this project seems to have many fields that will require at least 3 tables. I want to make the tables correct, so that I can sort and gather information from multiple fields properly ( such as the team table querying total goals scored ). Is there a website where there is a MySQL tutorial on do's and don'ts for making somewhat complex databases? Not intro tutorials, but more around where you get into combining multiple pieces of information correctly. Any source would be helpful, thanks!

• Correct way to get absolute url in django

  A problem that I stumbled upon recently, and, even though I solved it, I would like to hear your opinion of what correct/simple/adopted solution would be. I'm developing website using Django + python. When I run it on local machine with "python manage.py runserver", local address is http://127.0.0.1:8000/ by default. However, on production server my app has other url, with path - like "http://server.name/myproj/" I need to generate and use permanent urls. If I'm using {% url view params %}, I'm getting paths that are relative to / , since my urls.py contains this urlpatterns = patterns('', (r'^(\d+)?$', 'myproj.myapp.views.index'), (r'^img/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/img' }), (r'^css/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/css' }), ) So far, I see 2 solutions: modify urls.py, include '/myproj/' in case of production run use request.build_absolute_uri() for creating link in views.py or pass some variable with 'hostname:port/path' in templates Are there prettier ways to deal with this problem? There is no problems with the server in its day to day functions but i am getting a Warning in the Event Log every 5 minutes with the following: Windows System Resource Manager encountered the following error 0x80010117. User Name will not be logged in the subsequent event logs. Error 0x80010117 User Action Address the error condition, and then try again. This has been happening for over 2 weeks now and i cannot find anything online to help! If i could have some help, then it would much appreciated. Thanks

• Extracting data from Visual FoxPro databases

  I just got some 20Gb of data in a Visual FoxPro database with a custom frontend probably written in the same framework, and need to extract that data in any well-known format. I don't know anything about VFP in particular, but as it is SQL, there should be a way of opening an SQL console, or maybe an vfpdump utility. How can I do that? Everything I have now are a bunch of obscure binary files and a frontend executable.

• PHP Can't connect to MySQL on the production server

  I'm having problems with connections with MySQL through PHP script. The MySQL user is root and I added GRANTS to root@'%' so I can connect from anywhere. Lets assume my MySQL host as "bigboy.com.br" The funny part is, from my local machine, on my test server, the script can connect to the MySQL server normally. But on the dedicated server where MySQL is running, the same PHP script gives me "Access denied for 'root'@'bigboy.com.br'" error.

  I have a data collection job that fails when a Database on the instance is in Recovery Mode. The database in recovery is the MIRROR partner in the database mirror. The Job that fails is as follows. collection_set_1_noncached_collect_and_upload The job consists of the following steps dcexec -u -s 1 -i "INSTANCE03" EXEC [dbo].[sp syscollector purge collection logs] dcexec -u -s 1 -i "INSTANCE03" The job fails at Step 1. I have run the steps manually and they all appear to be ok. If I change the mirror database to be the principal the job completes successfully.

  Hi, We're migrating an existing IIS website + MS SQL 2005 database (on the same server) to a new test set-up. The existing set-up is too slow. I want one ISS server and 2 X MS SQL server 2005. One live DB server for the website queries (inserts, updates) and another for backups, reports or stored procedures. So the live DB should be more aimed at performance. The other doesn't even need to be synced instantly. What is the best way in SQL server 2005 to set this up. Can somebody point me in the right direction and give me some pointers. Thanks

• Guaranteeing ACID properties for InnoDB databases.

  What steps must one take to ensure that an otherwise defaultly-configured InnoDB server is truly ACID compliant? The InnoDB configuration page mentions that the hardware itself must be configured to honor fsync calls, i.e. disable any write-back caches. This page mentions some other concerns, but may be conflating the binary log and the InnoDB log, and may be a bit out of date regarding default settings for MySQL 5.x. Upon reading the binary log document page it would seem that the "sync_binlog=1" setting is not required for ACID properties in general, only for ACID properties vis a vis point-in-time recovery and replication. So, is disabling write-back disk caching sufficient, or are there other settings that must be tweaked?

  After restoring some mail stores, mounting them in the recovery storage group errors out. So far a repair with eseutil (which the log says was successful) and a server reboot has been tried. A defrag is currently running on the mail store I need to go through this again to post the exact error codes, so I will be updating this question. But I thought someone who does this a lot might have a "More times than not..." answer in the meantime.

  I'm planning to set up a Python app (Pyblosxom) on my server and considering to run it in its own virtualenv sandbox with --no-site-packages. I'm hoping that such a setup would be easily portable and maintainable over the years. However, I've only used virtualenv for development environments that recreate a certain server setup locally, and most sources about virtualenv seem to also mention virtualenv for such a use. Is there any drawback to running a Python app from a virtualenv on a live server?

• issues with Nginx + Passenger Production setup - Loading time/request time delay

  having a bit of an issue relating to request time. I have NGINX as a proxy server for a ruby on rails app running passenger. I also have a postgresql database server which is running on its own VM separate from my nginx/application server. My issue is that when I try and access my products page which does a lot of database queries, my query takes maybe 3-4 seconds. The second I flood the web server with requests, i will choke out the web server and have requests take almost 20-30 seconds to process. The rails server and database server do not crash, and the usage is not that high. Each server has more than enough memory, even cpu usage on the rails server isn't more than 85%, albeit thats high but its not maxing it out. Is my problem related to my nginx proxy server? I dont really know how to fully explain this so if you have a question please ask it and I can clarify what I mean. As you can see, the router is doing job of DHCP, DNS. but now I wish to add a Linux server between R1 and S1, So I can monitor the network traffic and do other more advance server admin stuff. the whole office network is 192.168.1.x and people are using their computer everyday. What network configuration should the new Linux server have (both interfaces) in order to minimize the changes need in the network? tried to change R1 ip to 192.168.100.1 them add the server with FE0/0 192.168.100.1 and FE0/1 192.168.1.1 but looks cannot ping the original Router..
