  • Why Doesn't This Java Code Skip Lines with #?

    - by Nathan
    I'm trying to allow an external .txt file that is read by a Java script be able to have some comments in the beginning of the file so others can easily edit it and add more to it. But if the file contains # (the sign designated for a line that is a comment) it just returns the error that there is a "Format Error in file" (the IOException - so it is getting past that first "IF"...) Can someone help? Here's the portion of the code that deals with commenting lines out of the .txt file being called earlier in the script: while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) { line = line.trim(); if (line.length() < 1 || line.charAt(0) == '#') { // ignore comments continue; } final String[] parts = line.split("="); if (parts.length != 2) { throw new IOException("Format error in file " + JLanguageTool.getDataBroker().getFromRulesDirAsUrl(getFileName()) + ", line: " + line); }

  • reading html from an inputstream java

    - by randeel wimalagunarathne
    hello everyone, I am reading a html file using an inputstream from a java servlet. But the contents of the original and the read one are in a different format although when displayed in a web browser they are the same. These are the two links for the html files after reading output http://www.fileflyer.com/view/gQREGAe orginal output http://www.fileflyer.com/view/mWXHVAE Is there a way to get the original html when reading? why is this happening? my java code is as follows; InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(inputStream); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr); String line = null; while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println(line); } Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you, rana.

  • What we call this kind of chaining in C#

    - by Thinking
    Can you please tell me what kind of construct in C# is this. Code Golf: Numeric equivalent of an Excel column name C.WriteLine(C.ReadLine() .Reverse() .Select((c, i) => (c - 64) * System.Math.Pow(26, i)) .Sum()); Though I am new to C# (only two months exp so far), but since the time I have joined a C# team, I have never seen this kind of chaining. It really attracted me and I want to learn more about it. Please give some insight about this.

  • How to read and write UTF-8 to disk on the Android?

    - by Rob Kent
    I cannot read and write extended characters (French accented characters, for example) to a text file using the standard InputStreamReader methods shown in the Android API examples. When I read back the file using: InputStreamReader tmp = new InputStreamReader(in); BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(tmp); String str; while ((str = reader.readLine()) != null) { ... the string read is truncated at the extended characters instead of at the end-of-line. The second half of the string then comes on the next line. I'm assuming that I need to persist my data as UTF-8 but I cannot find any examples of that, and I'm new to Java. Can anyone provide me with an example or a link to relevant documentation?

  • A RAM error of big array

    - by flint
    I have a big file, more than 400M. In that file, there are 13496*13496 number, means 13496 rows and 13496 cols. I want to read them to a array. This is my code: _L1 = [[0 for col in range(13496)] for row in range(13496)] _L1file = open('distanceCMD.function.txt') while (i<13496): print "i="+str(i) _strlf = _L1file.readline() _strlf = _strlf.split('\t') _strlf = _strlf[:-1] _L1[i] = _strlf i += 1 _L1file.close() And this is my error massage: MemoryError: File "D:\research\space-function\ART3.py", line 30, in <module> _strlf = _strlf.split('\t')

  • Python IPC, popen too slow

    - by UnableToLoad
    i need to run a subprocess (./myProgram) form python script and get output, actually i do this: import subprocess proc = subprocess.Popen('./generate_out', shell=False, stdout=subprocess.PIPE, ) while proc.poll() is None: out = proc.stdout.readline() data = doStuff(out) print(data) but is slow, sometimes pass a lot of time between the output produced by ./generate_out and the print(data), knowing that my doStuff() function is very fast, i think there is some buffer slowing down my pipe... Notes: ./generate_out, generates potentially an unlimited number of lines of finite length each. It seems that when too few chars are put in the pipe between the two processes nothing happens, then when enough is produced i get a huge print (non the expected behaviour!) sometimes i wait many seconds (10-20 and more) between generate_out print and python print) what can i do? maybe communicate() is faster? anithing else? Thank you a lot!

  • Python: Huge file reading by using linecache Vs normal file access open()

    - by user335223
    Hi, I am in a situation where multiple threads reading the same huge file with mutliple file pointers to same file. The file will have atleast 1 million lines. Eachline's length varies from 500 characters to 1500 characters. There won't "write" operations on the file. Each thread will start reading the same file from different lines. Which is the efficient way..? Using the Python's linecache or normal readline() or is there anyother effient way?

  • Force IOException during file reading

    - by DixonD
    I have the piece of code that reads data from file. I want to force IOException in this code for testing purpose (I want to check if code throws correct custom exception in this case). Is there a some way to create a file which is protected from being read, for example? Maybe dealing with some security checks can help? Please, note that passing name to not-existent file cannot help, because FileNotFoundException has separate catch clause. Here peace of code for better undestanding of question: BufferedReader reader = null; try { reader = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(csvFile)); String rawLine; while ((rawLine = reader.readLine()) != null) { // some work is done here } } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { throw new SomeCustomException(); } catch (IOException e) { throw new SomeCustomException(); } finally { // close the input stream if (reader != null) { try { reader.close(); } catch (IOException e) { // ignore } } }

  • Splitting a string with variable number of spaces VBA

    - by GVBA
    I have a file with a bunch of number in columns. These numbers are separated by variable number of spaces. I want to skip the first line and get all the other lines and separte each number on the line. Finally, I want to write each number on Excel. I've been able to get the lines and write them on Excel but I can't separate each number (I'm getting the whole line as one string). Does any body know how to split a string that has a variable number of spaces? Here is my code. Sub Test() r = 0 With New Scripting.FileSystemObject With .OpenTextFile("C:\Users\User\Desktop\File.tab", ForReading) If Not .AtEndOfStream Then .SkipLine Do Until .AtEndOfStream ActiveCell.Offset(r, 0) = Split(.ReadLine, vbCrLf) r = r + 1 Loop End With End With End Sub

  • check whether fgets would block

    - by lv
    Hi, I was just wondering whether in C is it possible to peek in the input buffer or perform similar trickery to know whether a call to fgets would block at a later time. Java allows to do something like that by calling BufferedReader.ready(), this way I can implement console input something like this: while (on && in.ready()) { line = in.readLine(); /* do something with line */ if (!in.ready()) Thread.sleep(100); } this allows an external thread to gracefully shutdown the input loop by setting on to false; I'd like to perform a similar implementation in C without resorting to non portable tricks, I already know I can make a "timed out fgets" under unix by resorting to signals or (better, even though requering to take care of buffering) reimplement it on top of recv/select, but I'd prefer something that would work on windows too. TIA

  • Why does Windows Explorer search freeze when I have an unrelated program paused in a debugger

    - by Evgeny
    While debugging my program, whether it's an ASP.NET application or a .NET console EXE and I have the debugger paused at a breakpoint I try to find a file in Windows Explorer. Either pressing WinKey+F or selecting search from the context menu freezes Windows Explorer - until I resume the program being debugged. My program has nothing to do with Windows Explorer! In fact, this happens in Visual Studio 2008 even with the simplest console EXE (WriteLine and ReadLine). I can't repro it with this simple EXE in WinDbg, but it does happen in with WinDb debugging an ASP.NET app. Why does this happen and how do I fix it? It's bloody annoying, especially when you don't realise what's going on. This is on Windows XP x64 SP2, running a .NET 3.5 application.

  • Programming error in Java Socket

    - by Akhil K Nambiar
    Can you tell me what is the error in this code? Socket socket = new Socket(hostname, port); PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(socket.getOutputStream(), true); //DataInputStream is = new DataInputStream(socket.getInputStream()); out.println("hi"); System.out.print(in.readLine()); The Server Socket program is written in .Net and it echoes back the data. The data is sent successfully but could not be retrieved properly. I tried the same by using the linux command nc 192.168.1.6 8425 (enter) Hi (Sent data) Hi (recieved data) When I checked the code the data is found to have sent as byteStream in .Net. Is that a problem. In that case what modification should I make.

  • Add up values from a text file

    - by Stanley
    Hi Guys I have a text file that contains Amounts at Substring (34, 47) of each line. I need to sum Up all the Values to the End of the File. I have this code that I had started to build but I do not know how to proceed from here: public class Addup { /** * @param args the command line arguments */ public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException { // TODO code application logic here FileInputStream fs = new FileInputStream("C:/Analysis/RL004.TXT"); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fs)); String line; while((line = br.readLine()) != null){ String num = line.substring(34, 47); double i = Double.parseDouble(num); System.out.println(i); } } } The output is like this: 1.44576457E4 2.33434354E6 4.56875685E3 The Amount is in two decimal Places and I need the result also in the Two decimal Places. What Is the Best way to achieve this?

  • GoTo statements and alternatives in VB.NET

    - by qais
    I've posted a code snippet on another forum asking for help and people pointed out to me that using GoTo statements is very bad programming practice. I'm wondering: why is it bad? What alternatives to GoTo are there to use in VB.NET that would be considered generally more of a better practice? Consider this snippet below where the user has to input their date of birth. If the month/date/year are invalid or unrealistic(using if statements checking the integer inputs size, if there's a better way to do this, I'd appreciate if you could tell me that also :D) How would I be able to loop back to ask the user again? retryday: Console.WriteLine("Please enter the day you were born : ") day = Console.ReadLine If day > 31 Or day < 1 Then Console.WriteLine("Please enter a valid day") GoTo retryday End If

I tried using BufferedReader, and BufferReader.readLine() return null.
