• SQL: Recursively get parent records using Common Table Expressions

  Hi there, Suposse you have to following tables where a sale consists of products and a product can be placed in multiple categories. Whereby categories have a hierachly structure like: Man Shoes Sport Casual Watches Women Shoes Sport Casual Watches Tables: Sale: id name 1 Sale1 Product: id saleidfk name 1 1 a 2 1 b 3 1 c 4 1 d 5 1 e ProductCategory : productid categoryid 1 3 2 3 3 4 4 5 5 10 Category: id ParentCategoryIdFk name 1 null Men 2 1 Shoes 3 2 Sport 4 2 Casual 5 1 Watches 6 null Women 7 6 Shoes 8 7 Sport 9 7 Casual 10 6 Watches Question: Now on my website I want to create a control where only the categories are shown of a certain sale and where the categories are filled with the products of the sale. I also want to include the hierachly structure of the categories. So if we have a leave node, recusivly go up to the top node. • sfJQueryUIPlugin: No Picker for new records

  Everyday is a new day with Symfony, but I'm loving it! This morning I installed the sfJQueryUIPlugin. It has very little dependencies & accepts themeRoller styles. However, it has 2 issues: [Feature_Request] There is no way to specify the year range. By default, it shows a 20 year range around the year in the field value. eg. if field value is 1993-01-20, the range will be 1983 to 2003. ??? Has anyone found a way out??? The DatePicker does not appear when the field is empty, Thus it does not show up during new record creation. To solve this, I tried setting up the default value in the date input field (which now appears as a text input) using $this->setDefault('date_of_birth',date('Y-m-d')); ??? Is anybody facing this problem of picker now available during new record creation ??? ??? Also is it the right way to set default value ??? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I've got a query below. I want to add a condition that if the parameter of @IsPrestigeFeatured = 0 then update all of the other rows < PropertyId in the IsprestigeFeatured column to 0 and if @IsPrestigeFeatured = 1 then IsprestigeFeatured = 1 where propertyId = PropertyId.   I have a table full of bugs. The BugTitle is the page erroring and I also capture the error line. I would like to build an SQL Query that selects the top 10 bugs based on bugtitle and error line. I have this query: SELECT COUNT(BugTitle) AS BugCount, BugTitle, ErrLine FROM Bugs WHERE BugDate >= DateAdd(Day, -30, DateDiff(Day, 0, GetDate())) GROUP BY BugTitle, ErrLine ORDER BY BugCount, ErrLine DESC But I'm not sure if it's correct. I'm pretty sure that my test data only has 1 bug that happens on the same line but that's not showing up with this query. Can anyone help?

• How to create database records for a financial year

  Hello, I need to create entities (specifically contracts) in a database table that are associated with a financial year. These contracts will be applied to projects. Any contract variation will be recorded by creating a new contract record for the same financial year but the original will remain associated with the project as a history. The projects can last several years and so at any one time a project will have a live contract record for each year as well as any number of historic contracts for that year. All of which is incidental but I'm trying to provide some context. If the contracts where for the year - it would be easy and I'd just store the Year either as a date field with the 1st of January or just an Integer. However the contracts run for financial years and I don't know how to approach this. I don't want a separate table containing the financial years as I don't want the users to have to maintain this. I don't want to store the financial year as a string "2009/2010" as this is not ideal for sorting/extracting the data. Any ideas will be helpful, my best so far is to have starting and ending year in 2 columns and just "KNOW" that starting is April of the year etc Thanks

  I have a games table which holds the data about a game. Then another table which holds the data about news. So far so good. First I thought about creating a junction table for game_news so I could relate news to games. This way works as intended when the game exists. So whenever I insert a news I can relate it to a game using the junction table. However there are cases when there is news about game but the game isn't published and it doesn't exists. So my question would be; is there a way to relate these news to a particular game when the game record is created. What is the best way to do this? Any ideas?

  Hi, Is there any single msql query which can update customer DOB? I want to update the DOB of those customers which have DOB greater than current date. example:- if a customer have dob 2034 update it to 1934 , if have 2068 updated with 1968. There was a bug in my system if you enter date less than 1970 it was storing it as 2070. The bug is solved now but what about the customers which have wrong DOB. So I have to update their DOB. • Modifying records in my migration throws an authlogic error

  I'm adding some columns to one of my database tables, and then populating those columns: def self.up add_column :contacts, :business_id, :integer add_column :contacts, :business_type, :string Contact.reset_column_information Contact.all.each do |contact| contact.update_attributes(:business_id => contact.client_id, :business_type => 'Client') end remove_column :contacts, :client_id end The line contact.update_attributes is causing the following Authlogic error: You must activate the Authlogic::Session::Base.controller with a controller object before creating objects I have no idea what is going on here - I'm not using a controller method to modify each row in the table. Nor am I creating new objects. The error doesn't occur if the contacts table is empty. I've had a google and it seems like this error can occur when you run your controller tests, and is fixed by adding before_filter :activate_authlogic to them, but this doesn't seem relevant in my case. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

I wish to do the following; when I create a record, i create a directory for that record, and copy an excel spreadsheet to that directory. Models attached via associations won't be translated because triggering callbacks on associated models is currently not supported. Has anyone come up with a solution for this??? If not could you give me some pointers concerning the following simple scenario. I have 2 models: Project, Category. Project HABTM Category I have properly set up i18n table and I have a few entries in the db, all translated. When I retrieve a project it does retrieve the translation but not the translated category because as it says in the cakephp book models attached via associations won't be translated. • Subsonic, child records, and collections

  Hi, I've been working with subsonic for a few weeks now, and it is working really well. However, I've just run into an issue with child objects with additional partial properties. Some of it is probably me just not understanding the .Net object lifecycle. I have an object - search. This has a few properties like permissions and stuff, and it links to a child table called search_options. In my Asp.Net app, it loops through these search options and creates controls. Then on postback, it grabs the values and assigns it back to a "value" property on the search_option. This value property is a simple string that's defined in a partial class. I then want to create a method on the search object, called PerformSearch. This then loops through the child search_options, and performs a custom query based on the "value" property. However, even though I assign the "value" property to the child search_option, when I access it later via the search.search_options collection, it is null. I'm guessing that maybe because it's accessing it in two different places, it performs another lazy load from the DB and the value is lost? Is there a way to tell the class that it's already loaded or something? or a way to access it so it's not reloaded from the DB? • SubSonic generated code and always filtering records

  Hi, I have a table called "Users" that has a column called "deleted", a boolean indicating that the user is "Deleted" from the system (without actually deleting it, of course). I also have a lot of tables that have a FK to the Users.user_id column. Subsonic generates (very nicely) the code for all the foreign keys in a similar manner: public IQueryable<person> user { get { var repo=user.GetRepo(); return from items in repo.GetAll() where items.user_id == _user_id select items; } } Whilst this is good and all, is there a way to generate the code in such a way to always filter out the "Deleted" users too? In the office here, the only suggestion we can think of is to use a partial class and extend it. This is obviously a pain when there are lots and lots of classes using the User table, not to mention the fact that it's easy to inadvertently use the wrong property (User vs ActiveUser in this example): public IQueryable<User> ActiveUser { get { var repo=User.GetRepo(); return from items in repo.GetAll() where items.user_id == _user_id and items.deleted == 0 select items; } } Any ideas?

• Batch update records in Grails

  I have to calculate a "total" for each user based on individual actions -- that is, a User hasMany Actions and each Action has a point. So I need to basically get a sum of all the points on all the actions. Actions are added and subtracted regularly. Since this can be a rather heavy operation, it's not feasible that I execute the "total" each time I need it. Therefore, I am thinking of running the operation once a day for each user and storing the total points on the User as an int. Because I have thousands of users, I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. Should I basically iterate through all the users and call User.save() each time, or is there some kind of batch update mechanism I can use in Grails / GORM?

ItemID is set to auto increment. I'm not sure what's going on - this is my first foray into master/detail, so something may be setup wrong. I'm using ComponentAce's Absolute Database for this project. How can I get this to insert properly? Update Ok, I removed the primary key restraint in my db, and I see that for some reason, the autoincrement feature of the OutputItems table isn't working like I expected. Here's how the OutputItems table looks after running the above code: ItemID|PackageID| 1 |1 | 1 |1 | 2 |2 | 2 |2 | I still don't see why all the ItemID values aren't unique.... Any ideas?

  Hi Using Authlogic, what is the best way to create a record in rails on other users' behalf? Description: I have a c++ server which handles Tcp connections from many c++ clients, and I want the c++ server to create a new record in the rails database using its REST api. However, the c++ server needs to be authenticated before creating that record. What I want is to attach the original user ID (from the c++ client) to the record (but not the servers) so I know from which user the record came from. One way is for the c++ client to send its persistence token over to the c++ server which sends that token as a parameter to the create action, does that make sense? or are there maybe some better ways to do this?
