  • How can I make this Perl regex work?

    I have this line ( it's a single line, SO makes it seem like 2 ): /Od /D "WIN32" /D "_DEBUG" /FD /EHa /MDd /Fo"Debug" /Fd"Debug\vc80.pdb" /W3 /c /Zi /clr /TP .\main.cpp" And I want to extract the .\main.cpp. I thought the following would do the trick: if($string =~ /.*\s+(.*)$/i) { print "matched ",$1,"\n"; } because this same regex works in Ruby, and extracts the string I required. How can I get it working?

    I have some strings that need a-strippin': ÃœT: 9.996636,76.294363 Tons of long strings of location codes. A literal regex in PHP won't match them, IE $pattern = /ÃœT:/; echo preg_replace($pattern, "", $row['location']); Won't match/strip anything. (To know it's working, /T:/ does strip the last bit of that string). What's the encoding error doing on here? Alternately, I would accept a concise way to take out just the numbers.

    I'm trying to make a test for checking whether a sys.argv input matches the regex for an IP address... As a simple test, I have the following... import re pat = re.compile("\d{1,3}.\d{1,3}.\d{1,3}.\d{1,3}") test = pat.match(hostIP) if test: print "Acceptable ip address" else: print "Unacceptable ip address" However when I pass random values into it, it returns "Acceptable ip address" in most cases, except when I have an "address" that is basically equivalent to \d+ Any thoughts welcome.     Just one simple, specific question: I've got the string {var1}12345{var2}, and I want to get the variable names used. if (preg_match("/{([a-zA-Z0-9]*)}/g", $url, $matches)) { print_r($matches); } If I remove the global flag, it works, but I only get the first variable, as expected. Why isn't it working with a global flag? It works when I'm testing it with the Regex Tester

    I have a string which looks like this: "[segment1][segment2][segment2]" What I'd like is to be able to split the string into an array, so I'd end up with: Array[0] = "segment1", Array[1] = "segment2", Array[2] = "segment3" I've tried using the string split function, but it doesn't seem to do exactly what I want.   • PHP Regex: How to match anything except a pattern between two tags

    Hello, I am attempting to match a string which is composed of HTML. Basically it is an image gallery so there is a lot of similarity in the string. There are a lot of <dl> tags in the string, but I am looking to match the last <dl>(.?)+</dl> combo that comes before a </div>. The way I've devised to do this is to make sure that there aren't any <dl's inside the <dl></dl> combo I'm matching. I don't care what else is there, including other tags and line breaks. I decided I had to do it with regular expressions because I can't predict how long this substring will be or anything that's inside it. Here is my current regex that only returns me an array with two NULL indicies: preg_match_all('/<dl((?!<dl).)+<\/dl>(?=<\/div>)/', $foo, $bar) As you can see I use negative lookahead to try and see if there is another <dl> within this one. I've also tried negative lookbehind here with the same results. I've also tried using +? instead of just + to no avail. Keep in mind that there's no pattern <dl><dl></dl> or anything, but that my regex is either matching the first <dl> and the last </dl> or nothing at all. Now I realize . won't match line breaks but I've tried anything I could imagine there and it still either provides me with the NULL indicies or nearly the whole string (from the very first occurance of <dl to </dl></div>, which includes several other occurances of <dl>, exactly what I didn't want). I honestly don't know what I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks for your help! I've spent over an hour just trying to straighten out this one problem and it's about driven me to pulling my hair out.

Additionally, any pointers for books or other resources that give a gentle introduction to mastering regexes in JS and other languages?
