• iPhone App takes up too much memory

  Ok, so here's my problem. My iPhone app is 1.2MB on disk. Granted I have a bunch of Images for the GUI buttons and backgrounds, etc. In-memory, my app takes up a whopping 15MB! That means if I then take a picture with the camera, 8MB default, it gives a memory warning (several) even before the picker calls its delegate! How can I tell what is grabbing so much memory, and how to remove it? I've removed all of my debugging symbols and added [-Os], but it still takes up a huge amount of memory! Also, (how) can I change the default resolution of the camera?

• Is it safe to unset PHP super-globals if this behavior is documented?

  I'm building a PHP framework, and in it I have a request object that parses the url as well as the $_GET, $_POST and $_FILE superglobals. I want to encourage safe web habits, so I'm protecting the data against SQL injection, etc. In order to ensure users of this framework are accessing the safe, clean data through the request object, I plan to use unset($_GET, $_POST, $_REQUEST); after parsing those variables. I will document this in the method comments, and explain in the framework documentation that this is happening. My question is: Would this be desirable behavior? What are the potential pitfalls that I have not foreseen?

• Why does this SELECT ... JOIN statement return no results?

  I have two tables: 1. tableA is a list of records with many columns. There is a timestamp column called "created" 2. tableB is used to track users in my application that have locked a record in tableA for review. It consists of four columns: id, user_id, record_id, and another timestamp collumn. I'm trying to select up to 10 records from tableA that have not been locked by for review by anyone in tableB (I'm also filtering in the WHERE clause by a few other columns from tableA like record status). Here's what I've come up with so far: SELECT tableA.* FROM tableA LEFT OUTER JOIN tableB ON tableA.id = tableB.record_id WHERE tableB.id = NULL AND tableA.status = 'new' AND tableA.project != 'someproject' AND tableA.created BETWEEN '1999-01-01 00:00:00' AND '2010-05-06 23:59:59' ORDER BY tableA.created ASC LIMIT 0, 10; There are currently a few thousand records in tableA and zero records in tableB. There are definitely records that fall between those timestamps, and I've verified this with a simple SELECT * FROM tableA WHERE created BETWEEN '1999-01-01 00:00:00' AND '2010-05-06 23:59:59' The first statement above returns zero rows, and the second one returns over 2,000 rows.

• To use package properly, how to arrange directory, file name, unit test file?

  My source files tree is like this: /src /pkg /foo foo.go foo_test.go Inside foo.go: package foo func bar(n int) { ... } inside foo_test.go: package foo func testBar(t *testing.T) { bar(10) ... } My questions are: Does package name relates to directory name, source file name? If there is only one source file for a package, need I put it in a directory? Should I put foo.go and foo_test.go in the same package? In the foo_test.go, as it's in the same package as foo.go, I didn't import foo. But when I compile foo_test.go with 6g, it says bar() is undefined. What should I do?

• findBy(x) Using Zend_Navigation with custom route

  I am creating my navigation from a db generated array and defining which route to use for some of the uris. when I set the route i am no longer able to use findByUri() as the uri seems to be moved under the properties key example array being used: [id] => 7 [label] => Legal [controller] => index [uri] => /legal [route] => cmsPage [visible] => 1 [params] => Array ( [first] => legal ) snippet of the output: [_properties:protected] => Array ( [uri] => /legal [created] => 2012-10-20 10:23:23 ) When I don't define the route I am able to use findByUri() successfully. currently I am looping through each to find the property that matches the request but it seems a long / wrong approach Is there a way to search by the nested param - or am i doing something wrong with the setup (everything else behaves as expected)

I am having another button called "insert Values" and also 5 textboxes. The values that are entered in the textbox are used and whenever com.ExecuteNonQuery(); line comes, it throws an error message called "Invalid object name '#tbl_emp_answer'.". • Recordset Update errors when updating sql_variant field

  I'm using C++ and ADO to add data to a SQL Server 2005 database. When calling the Recordset Update method for a sql_variant column I'm getting the error DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED and the error message Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done. If the value I'm adding is NULL all works fine and all values going to the fields that are not sql_variant types work. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks [Edit] I have some more information. The value we are storing is the empty string - ADO appears to want to store this in the sql_variant as a nchar(0), which of course is not a valid SQL data type. Is there a way to get an empty string in a sql_variant using the ADO batch commands?

  I continue to work on a printer for F# quoted expressions, it doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd like to see what is possible. The active patterns in Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.Patterns and Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.DerivedPatterns used for decomposing quoted expressions will typically provide MemberInfo instances when appropriate, these can be used to obtain the name of a property, function, etc. and their "declaring" type, such as a module or static class. The problem is, I only know how to obtain the CompiledName from these instances but I'd like the F# name. For example, > <@ List.mapi (fun i j -> i+j) [1;2;3] @> |> (function Call(_,mi,_) -> mi.DeclaringType.Name, mi.Name);; val it : string * string = ("ListModule", "MapIndexed") How can this match be rewritten to return ("List", "mapi")? • auto resize text (font size) when resizing window?

  Hi, I have been trying(in vain) to build a page whose elements would resize as I changed the window size. I have it working in css for images no problem, but I can't seem to accomplish the same for text, and I am not sure it is even possible in CSS. And I can't seem to find a jquery script that accomplishes this. When a user resizes the window, I essentially want the page to scale dynamically and fluidly, without the user having to invoke page zoom. This works fine on my img divs via css, but not for the text, which stays the same size. any ideas? Thanks!

• Is it possible to inspect the contents of a Table Value Parameter via the debugger?

  Does anyone know if it is possible to use the Visual Studio / SQL Server Management Studio debugger to inspect the contents of a Table Value Parameter passed to a stored procedure? To give a trivial example: CREATE TYPE [dbo].[ControllerId] AS TABLE( [id] [nvarchar](max) NOT NULL ) GO CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[test] @controllerData [dbo].[ControllerId] READONLY AS BEGIN SELECT COUNT(*) FROM @controllerData; END DECLARE @SampleData as [dbo].[ControllerId]; INSERT INTO @SampleData ([id]) VALUES ('test'), ('test2'); exec [dbo].[test] @SampleData; Using the above with a break point on the exec statement, I am able to step into the stored procedure without any trouble. The debugger shows that the @controllerData local has a value of '(table)' but I have not found any tool that would allow me to actual view the rows that make up that table.

• Javascript Shift+Enter (Firefox)

  Hi guys, Had a look and found some things on this, but nothing seems to work as I'd like it. Initially I had my solution working with internet explorer and chrome, but not firefox (which is unsatisfactory for me to not have working) What I'm looking for is a simple text area, which sends data on enter key, but creates a new line on Shift+Enter. The following is what I have function goReturn(e,str) { var e = (window.Event) ? e.which : e.keyCode; if (e.shiftKey && e=="13") { document.getElementById("wall").value = document.getElementById("wall").value+"\n"; } else if(e=="13"){ // ...continue to send data } } This sends the data on enter, but also sends the data on shift and enter (which is the problem I have). • Fonts in a multi-platform environment

  What is the best way to deal with fonts in a multi-platform distributed system? If I want to use a common font across all systems to show to the user, what's the best way to do this. From the little I've been reading each platform looks to have fonts that are of the same family (ie serif, sans-serif) but with different names. CSS looks to have the functionality baked in where it will make the best selection it can of font on the users machine. Is there similar functionality either in system libraries or external libraries for Windows & Linux. I'm using C++ mainly? Can someone point me in the right direction for documentation as well? • HTML to automatically hide text depending on scrolled size (like in Gmail)?

  Look at your Gmail inbox. You have 3 main columns contains the Sender contains "THE_EMAIL_SUBJECT - THE_EMAIL_BODY" the date the email was sent on I note that when you resize the window, the Gmail web client automatically resizes the displayed text in the second column. It basically just truncates the text so that it always can display the sent on date to the right, and the sender to the left. It is a pretty neat effect, and I would like to have that effect for myself. Does anyone know how to do this in HTML/CSS/JS?

• Submit multiple forms as one

  I have two forms on the page. To the user it looks like 1 form, and I actually wish it was one form. But the way I'm trying to reuse code and include things, I can't avoid two forms in the source code... trying to act as one. I don't want to do ajax submit, I want a normal post submit, my form handler has redirects in it. How can I submit both of these, and get values that make sense on the server side. something like $_POST['form1]['whatever'] $_POST['form2]['thing'] Maybe take all the inputs from form 2, rename all of them with a prefix, and append them to form 1? I can't find a non-messy way of doing this. I don't think I need code, just a plan. Least messy idea wins.

I tried to answer that software is a much younger industry, but the user countered with "didn't the automobile industry become much more stable than and reliable with less people?". I also tried to answer that software is more complex, but the user countered that there are many thousands of parts that make up a car. • How can I get data off of a (probably) very corrupt drive?

  So, my younger brother wanted my help today. Apparently, he was helping a friend install Ubuntu to his laptop, and midway through the install (on a filled hard-drive with Windows 8, from the liveusb thing): 1) They realized that they had chosen "Erase and install" accidentally and decided the best course of action was to (in the middle of an install, remember) 2) Force shutdown the computer. After I had replaced my eyeballs back into their sockets, my bro asked if I could do anything about his friend's data, which he wanted back. This, however, drifts out of my normal comfort zone. I know this about the install: 1) It was on a fairly new Windows 8 laptop, so it had whatever filesystem it uses nowadays on the entire drive 2) They didn't choose the "zero out drive data" option 3) They stopped the install at some point (not sure if before or after wipe) I can imagine that it now has two corrupted filesystems on it (whatever Windows 8 was on and ext3) and that some of the data still exists (assuming it wasn't overwritten already). Is there anything that can be done for whatever data is left on the drive?
