• Chainload boot of Ubuntu installed on 32GB SD card from legacy Grub boot on USB

  I have Ubuntu installed on a 32 GB SD card (in the Storage Expansion slot on an Acer Aspire One) with Grub2 installed in the same partition. I boot into legacy Grub on a USB drive and would like to boot by chainloading Grub2 from Grub (kernel/initrd or symlink booting would also be fine), but I haven't figured out how to do this from legacy Grub CLI. Output from blkid for this partition is /dev/mmcblk0p1: LABEL="Ubuntu" UUID="7ceb9fa7-238c-4c5d-bb8e-2c655652ddec" TYPE='ext4" / fdisk -lu information Boot indicator ID 83. • gnome-shell failed to launch when dual monitor detected, nvidia card

  I installed a clean precise. I like gnome-shell so I installed it. It worked well with single monitor. But It does not work well when I go to office, plug my external monitor onto my laptop. I am using nvidia driver. Another colleague is using the same laptop, he can work well with dual monitors. His laptop is ATI graphic card. When I plug my extended monitor cable, I choose GNOME, but actually it goes to gnome 2 classic desktop environment, not GNOME 3. When I disconnect the extended monitor, restart X, I can login with GNOME3. Do I have to choose between GNOME3 and extended monitor? It's a hard choose.

• Pulseaudio no sound card detected. Dummy output only

  I'm using 12.10 Quantal with Openbox and a .xinitrc script at login instead of a display manager. Its a relatively fresh install and I noticed when I opened pavucontrol the only output was a dummy one. I check around and it appears that my soundcard is physically installed but Pulseaudio isn't detecting it. I'm really unsure what I should do but any help getting my audio back would be appreciated. I've managed to connect through a wireless network, I went to my favorite sites and was told I needed to install adobe flash player.This what I did players run and picture is good. But there is no sound! Then I've tried to play songs in Banshee, but no sound. I have checked everything in sound preferences including test speaker, there is sound. I have sigmatel sound card. • Wild card redirect in htaccess giving error this webpage has a redirect loop

  In my website I changed the directory name "vehicles-cars" to "vehicles-cars-for-sale". When I tried to redirect using a wild card redirect from my old directory name to new directory name in my web hosting cPanel account, I get an error every time I open pages from that directory: this webpage has a redirect loop The website is php. The problem is that that I have lots of pages with the old directory indexed in Google and they are getting duplicate content. I really need some advice on what to do with this problem. • runt integrated intel graphics card + nvidia pcie graphics card?

  Its days I am searching for information/help. Is this possible at all? I am running Ubuntu 11.10 on an intel core i3 530 on a intel dh55hc mainboard. I have 2 monitors attached, one on dvi and one on hdmi. I want to ad a third or eaven a fourth monitor using an additional graphics card nvidia in pcie slot. But it needs a lot of custom programming (and has a very strange voucher-system). Customer has to add the File into the basket and add the voucher at checkout. I want to skip that ;) Is there a Webshop (Or CMS + Plugin) which provides the things I need? • Attaining credit card data

  I've read the many posts on this site that say we are not allowed to store cc numbers if we are not pci-compliant. But, I'm wondering if it is possible to send a CC number through a form to an email address? Would that be still infringing on the standards? The reason I ask is that a local business owner wants to retrieve a number through a form on his website, so he can manually enter the cc info on his end. I'm assuming the only way to properly get a credit card number is to setup a merchant account? What's the best way to get a cc number without calling the actual customer? I'm thinking email is a bad idea as well.

  How does one configure Radeon video cards when using the open source Radeon driver - power profile, vsync, etc? The RV710 needs a specific power setting to prevent overheating under LMDE, fortunately it doesn't seem to overheat with the Ubuntu default setting.

• Is it legal to ask photo ID and credit card copy in the U.S

  I regularly order from online shops around the world and I have not see any case where the company asks for photo ID or credit card copy. Yesterday I make an order from linode.com and my order is on hold because of their "fraud check system". Is it common to ask those info in U.S. where I have never asked such info in here (Istanbul, Turkey). And I already asked what is their motive and legal stand and the reason my order is hold by their fraud system. And I also added whether is because I live in Istanbul, Turkey. Their answer was as following: "We would not be able to disclose specific information related to our fraud system." And I'm asked repeatedly whether I want to cancel my order or not. I dont questioning reputation of linode.com if I think so, I did not make an order. I think asking for photo ID is neither legal nor provide any security.

• WIFI card intel r 2200 will not work

  I have installed 12.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro. Wifi card does not work. Have tried various threads but none have the same problem.   A few days ago I installed the latest version of Ubuntu in a computer of mine, that it has installed the "Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS". After the installation and up to yesterday everything was excelent. Yesterday I installed the latest Ubuntu updates and today I had several issues. First the mouse was not responed as should be, but after restarted my computer everything was fine with mouse. Next was my sound card. For now I do not have sound at all :( I don't really know what's wrong. Does anybody has any idea on how to solve that issue, or from where to start, to find a solution ?   I want to stream to icecast server via darkice, the default .cfg comes with /dev/dsp, witch is OSS, but there is no /dev/dsp in Ubuntu 12.10, so I tried hw:0,0, but it's just the microphone, and I would like to stream all of the sound-card output. • ATI Radeon XPress 1200 Graphics Card Driver Install Problems

  I've got an ATI Radeon XPress 1200 Graphics Card, and the default driver isn't cutting it. I downloaded the proprietary driver .run file ("ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run") from AMD, and tried to run it with sudo sh ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run. Everytime I try and to it I get this error: Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version default:v2:i686:lib::none:3.8.0-25-generic; make sure that the version is being correctly set by --iscurrentdistro I don't know what's throwing it, and I would really appreciate some help.   I am trying to convert to ubuntu completely but my problems lies here, I install the os and the main monitor works fine, but the secondary monitor? blank.. is there any help with this? I know the os has problems with Nvidia stuff but if i can get the dual screens working, that is one thing out of the way. I have read and tried post "Ubuntu 12.04 Nvidia GTX 460 video card installation" and failed so hard i have to format and start over. Thanks!

  Quick background: I installed Linux Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Inspiron 3520 after uninstalling Windows 8. A friend suggested to do this as opposed to buying a laptop with Linux pre-installed. Everything except the wireless card works. When I load up the laptop, I see a wireless animation as if it's trying to locate the wireless connection (for a while, then it goes blank), but no connections appear under the wireless option (under "Edit Connections" then "Wireless"). What I've tried: - Doing ndiswrapper. Failed. - Installing a few kernels for realtek. Failed.

• Unable to record from USB sound card line-in connector

  I've been googling and struggling with this for a while but haven't been able to make this work. I bought a USB sound card (Encore ENMAB 8-CM) to record from its line-in connector. I'm not sure which input to pick in Audicity, but I'me sure I've tested them all. These are all the available inputs I have in Audacity. But there's no sound being recorded at all. • Sony VAIO wireless card not connecting intel 4965AGN

  I'm running a Sony VAIO VGN-CR410E, and recently moved it to Ubuntu from Windows 7. Both my home and work networks (which I maintain) run WPA/WPA2-PSK authentication for security. My wireless network card (intel 4965AGN) will not connect to them unless I am in the same room (kind of defeats the purpose of wireless). The PC is 4 years old and the routers are brand new (last month or so). Had no problems with it with Win7, but Ubuntu just doesn't like the networks. As an IT manager, my laptop needs to work, so any help is appreciated. If this is a duplicate, please let me know of what. I've spent hours searching and nothing has worked. Thanks for your help. (This is my first experience fully relying on Ubuntu). I can see the networks and attempt connection, but it fails authentication. Let me know of any code you need.

• Using "MTNL 3G Jadoo" data card on Ubuntu

  I am trying to use "MTNL 3G Jadoo" data card (Teracom LW272) with Ubuntu 12.04. On connecting, it gets mounted as a drive containing the client installation .deb file. I opened the .deb file in Ubuntu Software Center and installed it. I searched for "MTNL" in Ubuntu search and found "MTNL 3G Modem" application. But it won't run. I found it is installed in /opt/MTNL-3GModem. I tried running it from the terminal as: sudo /opt/MTNL-3GModem/ModemClient, but no luck. Any idea how to get it working?

When I physically install the card I put it into a purple slot on the motherboard that the old card was in (if I go into the device manager and select properties on the current card it confirms that the slot is a "PCI Slot 16 (PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0)") and boot up the computer but get absolutely no output. The screen that we have registers that it is connected to something (by not displaying the screen it does when the cable is unplugged) but just remains blank, no output at all. I recently took the card to my University and one of my friends who is better with hardware issues than I am tried it in his system and it worked perfectly. No issues whatsoever. I do not have a spec list for his system but I could get one if you need it. If you need any more information on this issue I will be happy to supply you with it as I am starting to get very annoyed with this problem ^_^

• How could I let Skydrive desktop sync to MicroSD in Windows 8 tablet?

  I have a Samsung Slate 7 tablet with (now) Windows 8 on it. This machine has a 64 Gb SSD and I have a 64 Gb MicroSD card in it. I also have a Skydrive on my main Microsoft ID that contains about 45 Gb of content. With Windows and some development stuff installed, my Skydrive will not fit on the main drive of the tablet. (Besides, my idea was to keep data on the memory card anyway, to make it easier to repave the machine without data loss if need be.) My problem should now be clear: I want to install the Skydrive desktop app to sync my Skydrive to the MicroSD card. This is not possible, as Skydrive does not allow syncing files to removable drives. I have tried a number of things already, but none of them worked: Use the mklink command line tool to create a directory link/junction from a folder name on SSD to a folder on the MicroSD and then try to install Skydrive sync to the SSD link folder. Skydrive however still recognizes this as something it does not want to sync onto. The various different filter drivers mentioned on Agnipulse (including the Hitachi one) that should make windows see some or all of the removable drives in the system as fixed drives do not seem work on (64-bit) Windows 8: they either can't be installed, do nothing and/or cause Windows 8 to go into Automatic Repair mode when rebooting. The Lexar BootIt app seems to be meant to flip the relevant bit in the on-board drive controller of supported USB pen drives, but I tried it anyway. Of course it did nothing to how the MicroSD card was seen. I have now run out of ideas, it seems, and I was wondering if anyone here has a solution to let Windows 8 see the MicroSD memory card in my tablet as a fixed drive instead of removable drive, or some other way of getting the Skydrive desktop to sync my Skydrive data to that MicroSD card. And to be complete: this is not a duplicate question of this or this as those ask about getting USB drives multiple partitions to work on Windows XP. This question is specific about getting desktop Skydrive to sync to MicroSD card in Windows 8, which seems to be a question I have not seen on superuser so far.
