Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
Compress components with gzip
Configure entity tags (ETags)
Add Expires headers
If i don't have access to Apache configuration.
For example, dynamic and fluid between 600px - 1000px, but fixed at 1000px after 1000px and fixed at 600px below 600px. Check out digg.com for an example. I'd like a way that is cross-browser compatible. Thank you!
I'm using the following to render the_tags() in Wordpress 2.9.2, currently developing a theme on localhost:
<?php the_tags('<ul class="postmetadata"><li>','</li><li>','</li></ul>'); ?>
and would like to have same -near-semantic- output from the_category(), which doesn't seem obviously attainable (having looked at the relevant codex page).
Is there a way to take a DIV that has a background image on it, then apply a CSS3 gradient on it to simulate a lightsource?
The reason I ask was because I was thinking of making the BODY tag on a page use a repeating background pattern, apply the CSS3 gradient lightsource on it, and then stick a white DIV on top of that where all the page content would go.
For those without CSS3, it would degrade nicely into just a white DIV on top of a repeating background.

How to get mockup image behind all div like this plugin does.? this tool only shows design behind layout only on firefox and i want to see on all browser.
I have a very simple web form which consists of labels and input fields, however I can not seem to find a way of aligning the form in the center of the page and for the labels to have an equal width so that they appear neatly next to each other, one under the other. The structure of my page is basically:
<body>
<div class="form">
<form method="post">
<fieldset>
<label>Mobile:</label><input type="text" name="msisdn"><br/>
<label>Code:</label><input type="text" name="code"><br/>
<br/>
<input type="image" src="submit-button.gif" alt="Submit">
<br/>
<input type="checkbox" name="ts_and_cs"><label> Accept Terms and Conditions</label>
<br/><br/>
</fieldset>
</form>
</div>
</body>
Usually I would fix this by doing float:left on the label fields and setting a width on the labels, however for this I need the labels and input fields to be centered on the page. Also I am not able to set the width of the page (or any containing divs) as the page will be displayed on mobile devices with different screen sizes.
Any suggestions as to how best style the form? Thanks
hello

Is it good to add line-height in body{line-height:1.5} or it would be better if i add separately for tag by tag like p{ line height:1em} etc.
Edit:
body {line-height:in em} create problem with if we put image with float inside
Edit: 24 April 2010:
If i have to add different line heights to elements
like
p {line-height: 1.4}
h1 {line-height:1.6}
h2 {line-height:1.2}
ul li {line-height:1.1}
then shouldn't i use line height in body {line-height:1.4}
if body {line-height:1.4} and h1 {line-height:1.6} then what would be line height for h1?
I have a simple on my page with the opacity being set to 0.5. The problem is, the text inside that is also going transparent. How do I correct that? Do I make another div and place it on top the transparent one? If so, how to do that?
for example.
if i want to quickly wrap anything by this in once.
in dreamweaver or in any other free software where i can do this.
I want to select this
<p>anything can be here - content, other html tag etc.</p>
and in one shot want to wrap inside 2 divs with predefined classes
<div class="one">
<div class="two">
<p>anything can be here - content, other html tag etc.</p>
</div>
</div>
I have work with large amount of code and need to wrap random things in Divs with defined attributes.
Hi guys, I have been doing some research on mobile websites, and thus far it seems to me that PHP is not supported by most handsets.
I am trying to create multiple form's that lead up to a auto email response, which would be fairly simple if I could use PHP.
Is there any other way of achieving this?
$chars = " \t\n\r\0\x0B";
$pattern = '('.implode('|',array_map('preg_quote',array('<p>','</p>','<br />','<br>'))).')'."\b";
$data = trim(preg_replace('~'.$pattern.'$~i','',preg_replace('~^'.$pattern.'~i','',trim($data,$chars))),$chars);
That code is set to remove all <p>,</p>,<br> and <br /> from the beginning and end of a html string. But it is no working. Any ideas?
I'm working on a website for a small law office. In the side-menu, I'm trying to highlight the "current page". I have tried changing the background of the LI, but this doesn't quite do the trick; the list item doesn't spread to the full width of the menu, so it looks bad.
Here's a jfiddle. I would like the yellow section to highlight like the pink section is highlighted: filling up the full vertical and horizontal space, not just highlighting the text.
Any suggestions on how to do this? I've included the style tag in the html just for example, obviously, and my real solution will be a little different when it's done. But I can't move forward until I figure out how to somehow highlight the entire line.
Is it bad to be semantic purist all
the time, at work? is it not achievable all
the time ?
when i saw code of any other
person/interviewee. I know selection
of element for a purpose is most
important thing.
what i should judge person ability
from his code; from a good written,
managed, optimized css or how he
wrote class and id names?
Or both every time.
OK that's the worst title I could ever possibly think up. But I'm not too sure how to phrase it!
What I mean is, is it inefficient for the browser, search engine optimisation, or any other important factors, if programmatically my float:righted sidebar appears in the markup before the main content div, which is set to float:left?
To the user, the main content appears on the left, and the sidebar on the right. In the source code it appears like so:
<div id="sidebar">This is where my sidebar goes </div>
<div id="content">This is where my content goes </div>
Will this affect SEO or other factors in my page?
Is it possible to make this box's corner round with same html tags. without using any other tag and border-radius property. but i can use css classes and background images. and box height should be depend on content of <p>grr</p>
<h2>Nulla Facilisi</h2>
<p>
Phasellus at turpis lacus. Nulla hendrerit lobortis nibh.
In lectus erat, blandit non feugiat vel, accumsan ac dolor.
Etiam et ligula vel tortor tempus vehicula porttitor ut ligula.
Mauris felis odio, fermentum vel
</p>
Edit : What is the best possible way to achieve this without css border-radius property which is not supported by internet explorer?
I have a stylesheet for desktops, and another for handhelds. The web page displays some images when displayed on the desktop, but hides those images when displayed on handhelds. The page appears as designed for both desktops and handhelds.
When I check the server logs, I find that the handheld is actually still loading the images, just not displaying them. Is there a way to stop the handheld from loading the images entirely, since it doesn't need them, without having to maintain two sets of web pages? Can it be done using just stylesheets?
Thanks in advance.

How to add title of link as a alt of img. using regex and in dreamweaver. I have to do in a large document. and in multiple files
Before
<a title="Whatever is written here" href="#" target="_blank">
<img width="14" height="14" src="#" /></a>
after
<a title="Whatever is written here" href="#" target="_blank">
<img width="14" height="14" src="#" alt="Whatever is written here" /></a>
If there is a link at last of the paragraph or in a middle of paragraph and just before the period . then should we include . period in link text or not.
which is ok , this
<p>
Lorem ipsum dolor oerisque tortor. Morbi quam massa,
dictum eget vehicula sed, ullamcorper vel nulla. Fusce
feugiat sapien a mauris semper hendrerit <a href="#">ac vel est</a>.
</p>
or this
<p>
Lorem ipsum dolor oerisque tortor. Morbi quam massa,
dictum eget vehicula sed, ullamcorper vel nulla. Fusce
feugiat sapien a mauris semper hendrerit <a href="#">ac vel est.</a>
</p>
and which would be good for screen reader?
Hi Everyone,
I'm having a problem with this page http://www.gwynfryncottages.com/news.php
The .blog-footer div needs to clear on the right to correct for the height of the pictures introducing clear:right; causes the huge gap to appear on the page in FF and IE.
I'm at a loss, I've tried numerous ideas to get around the problem and at this point i've been staring at it too long to see the problem clearly. Can anyone help me out.
Thanks in advance.
how do I insert an sidebar menu onto a page without using an iframe? or needing to edit the main page. Is it possible to do this or the only option is to use an iframe?
My navbar doesn't line up in IE... how can I fix this without using Javascript...

Also it has to be able to work on all resolutions.
So i have a site which is rendered with our in-house portal engine. It resizes images and adjusts style-sheets automatically in real-time.
Issue is that some html elements are inexplicably disappearing due to what only can be described as HTML compatibility. But the problem is not consistent. And only seems to be an issue on some nokia devices.
I have tried to install the Nokia Mobile Browser Emulator... but its the worst piece of software i have seen in my life... after 4 hours of installing and uninstalling different versions of JRE, i still can't get it to install.
