  • Building CSS3 Simulated Lightsource on Background

    Is there a way to take a DIV that has a background image on it, then apply a CSS3 gradient on it to simulate a lightsource? The reason I ask was because I was thinking of making the BODY tag on a page use a repeating background pattern, apply the CSS3 gradient lightsource on it, and then stick a white DIV on top of that where all the page content would go. For those without CSS3, it would degrade nicely into just a white DIV on top of a repeating background.

  • Center aligned form with equal width labels

    I have a very simple web form which consists of labels and input fields, however I can not seem to find a way of aligning the form in the center of the page and for the labels to have an equal width so that they appear neatly next to each other, one under the other. The structure of my page is basically: <body> <div class="form"> <form method="post"> <fieldset> <label>Mobile:</label><input type="text" name="msisdn"><br/> <label>Code:</label><input type="text" name="code"><br/> <br/> <input type="image" src="submit-button.gif" alt="Submit"> <br/> <input type="checkbox" name="ts_and_cs"><label> Accept Terms and Conditions</label> <br/><br/> </fieldset> </form> </div> </body> Usually I would fix this by doing float:left on the label fields and setting a width on the labels, however for this I need the labels and input fields to be centered on the page. Also I am not able to set the width of the page (or any containing divs) as the page will be displayed on mobile devices with different screen sizes. Any suggestions as to how best style the form?   • CSS/HTML: Highlighting the "full width avaialble" to a list item

    I'm working on a website for a small law office. In the side-menu, I'm trying to highlight the "current page". I have tried changing the background of the LI, but this doesn't quite do the trick; the list item doesn't spread to the full width of the menu, so it looks bad. Here's a jfiddle. I would like the yellow section to highlight like the pink section is highlighted: filling up the full vertical and horizontal space, not just highlighting the text. Any suggestions on how to do this? I've included the style tag in the html just for example, obviously, and my real solution will be a little different when it's done. But I can't move forward until I figure out how to somehow highlight the entire line.

  • Webpage layout order for my webapp - does it matter if the Sidebar is programmatically displayed bef

    OK that's the worst title I could ever possibly think up. But I'm not too sure how to phrase it! What I mean is, is it inefficient for the browser, search engine optimisation, or any other important factors, if programmatically my float:righted sidebar appears in the markup before the main content div, which is set to float:left? To the user, the main content appears on the left, and the sidebar on the right. In the source code it appears like so: <div id="sidebar">This is where my sidebar goes </div> <div id="content">This is where my content goes </div> Will this affect SEO or other factors in my page?

  • Can a stylesheet for handhelds skip loading images

    I have a stylesheet for desktops, and another for handhelds. The web page displays some images when displayed on the desktop, but hides those images when displayed on handhelds. The page appears as designed for both desktops and handhelds. When I check the server logs, I find that the handheld is actually still loading the images, just not displaying them. Is there a way to stop the handheld from loading the images entirely, since it doesn't need them, without having to maintain two sets of web pages? Can it be done using just stylesheets?   • problem with clear: right;

    Hi Everyone, I'm having a problem with this page http://www.gwynfryncottages.com/news.php The .blog-footer div needs to clear on the right to correct for the height of the pictures introducing clear:right; causes the huge gap to appear on the page in FF and IE. I'm at a loss, I've tried numerous ideas to get around the problem and at this point i've been staring at it too long to see the problem clearly. Can anyone help me out. Thanks in advance.

  • Mobile web on nokia devices not displaying centain elements

    So i have a site which is rendered with our in-house portal engine. It resizes images and adjusts style-sheets automatically in real-time. Issue is that some html elements are inexplicably disappearing due to what only can be described as HTML compatibility. But the problem is not consistent. And only seems to be an issue on some nokia devices. I have tried to install the Nokia Mobile Browser Emulator... but its the worst piece of software i have seen in my life... after 4 hours of installing and uninstalling different versions of JRE, i still can't get it to install. EDIT: Problem now residing at http://wiseguy.mobi/?PageID=657
