  How about this situation. Our business deals a lot with medical information. And some of our clients have demands based off HIPPA, etc. There is one now where they do not want an employee to have both wired and wireless on at same time. If the wireless is on the wired needs to be turned off automatically and vice versa. However, this can not be up to the end user to manage! I have looked for third party applications and only have found http://www.wirelessautoswitch.com Does anyone know of anything else that is out there? Or possible something that can be done via group policy, etc.?

• Internet Explorer 10 auto-correct randomly capitalises words

  I use Internet Explorer 10 on my Windows 7 laptop (because the fingerprint browser add-on only works in IE). I have noticed that IE 10 has a built-in spellchecker, which is great. Now, I write about 90 % English and 10 % Swedish on web sites, so it is somewhat unfortunate that it isn't possible to change the spell-checker language 'on-the-fly'. But that's a minor issue. The main problem is that, when I write English comments, the spell-checker (apparently randomly) capitalises some Words. For instance, the 'words' of the previous sentence was changed automatically to 'Words'. Another Word that is Always capitalised is Before. (Yes, the Three Words that are incorrectly capitalised in the previous sentence are due to the auto-correct 'feature', and apparently 'three' is also a problematic word.) Is this really something that happens to every (bilingual) user? Is there any way to fix the issue (preferably without disabling the spell-checker altogether)?

  How to tell for sure if PAE (Physical Address Extensions) is enabled or not? There is a SPECIFIC command I can use? I can read a registry value or something? (Windows 7 32 bits) I have found this on Internet but it doesn't answer my question: If your server has hot-add memory ability (ability to add more memory without shutting down the server !!) or data execution prevention (DEP) is enabled then PAE will be enabled automatically !! It only reformulate the question as "does my Qosmio x505 laptop support hot-add memory?"

• Browsing not working in Windows 8

  I'm using Windows 8 Professional installed on Windows 7 using the "Save my preferences and apps" installation option. The Windows works great, apps are downloading and I can listen to online radio stations using the TuneIn radio app meaning the internet connection is alive, however, when I open a browser (either Chrome or IE10) and try to browse the internet, I'm getting an "Unable to resolve DNS" error message. Prior to installing the internet browsing worked flawlessly I must say. I'm using ESET NOD32 Antivirus so I suspect that it might interfere with the web connection now, but I'm not so sure. Internet options show that the PC is set to resolve the DNS automatically. I don't know what to do. My other Win7 PCs in my wifi home network are connecting to the internet without any issues. If anyone can help me resolve this I'll be grateful :) Thanks

• Windows 8 - Ubuntu dual boot

  I bought a new Toshiba s855 notebook with windows 8 preinstalled. Secure boot feature was enabled by default. I installed latest version of ubuntu after disabling secure boot feature(it was not possible to install ubuntu without disabling secure boot). But now when I enable secure boot, the system automatically boots into windows 8, and it boots into ubuntu when I disable secure boot. EasyBCD lists the following boot entries but I can only see Windows 8 in boot menu: Default: Windows 8 Timeout: 7 seconds EasyBCD Boot Device: C:\ Entry #1 Name: Ubuntu BCD ID: {971641cd-304a-11e2-be82-806e6f6e6963} Device: \Device\HarddiskVolume2 Bootloader Path: \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi ...   Hi, I'm looking for an MKV meta tag editor, I'm using PLEX Media Server and PLEX Media Center on my iMac to see movies. PLEX is great because it automatically find and name all my movie library with year, director, gender, original title, description, movie poter art, etc. Unfortunately, it saves all the data only on a app DB file without edit any tag on the MKV files. A 20% of the movies needs to be fixed or PLEX needs help to find exactly the movie name, so if I need to move all my library elsewere, I need to do all the tagging work again. • What is the simplest and fastest way to transfer large file through a Windows network?

  I have a Window Server 2000 machine running MS SQL Server that stores over 20GB of data. The database is backed-up every day to the second harddrive. I want to transfer those backup files to another computer to build another test server and for recovery practicing. (the backup never actually got restored for almost 5 years. Don't tell my boss about that!) I have trouble transfering that huge file through the network. I've tried plain network copy, apache download, and ftp. Any method I tried end up failing when the amount of data transfered reach 2GB. The last time that I successfully transfered the file, it was through a usb attached external harddrive. But I want to perform this task routinely and preferably automatically. Wonder what is the most pragmatic approach for this situation ?

• Having trouble with EPSON Stylus SX130 scanner

  I am trying to scan files with an EPSON Stylus SX130 on windows 7 x64. When i plug in the printer, windows automatically find drivers for printing, but not for scanning. So i go to the manufacturer website to download the drivers, select windows 7 64-bit and download drivers for EPSON Scan. The install works fine, but when i try to scan a file (eg: from paint or Windows fax and scan), the folowing message pops up and freezes the application : the progress bar plays the animation forever and the application does not respond. I then have no choice to kill the application with the task manager. Do you have an idea of what's going on ? How can i fix the problem, ie: how do i get the scanner actually scan files without freezing ? I tried to install the driver from the CD given in the printer package, and got the same problem. The only help i found so far (the error seems somewhat related) is this : Install a xp virtual machine and run it in there

I want to config my router as when primary routing fails second routing automatically start to route all my packets. When I set 2 IP route command in my router then I check I see it work well but when peer IP on primary routing is down it can not change to second routing until I remove first route command.In the following I write my setting.   Sendmail supports a feature called 'plussed users'. Once enabled, emails sent to [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] are automatically delivered just like mails to [email protected]. There is no need to register or set up these 'plus suffixes'. The user can just use them and set up client-side filtering rules on his own. Does Exchange support a similar mechanism? If so, how to enable it? Note that I don't want answers about other means of filtering, e.g. spam/junk filtering, server-side or client-side rules, email aliases/addresses that are configured explicitly and so on.

• On Windows 7, how can I make the Start Menu search feature include matches from within words, not just the start of the word?

  I have a program installed called WinSCP. When I press the Windows key and type "SCP", I get "No items match your search." Is there a configuration option I can set somewhere, so that this item will be found? I'm not looking for a specific solution for this particular program, but something general, so that if there's a program named XYZ, I can find it via the Start Menu search by entering YZ. EDIT TO ADD: I'm looking for a "set-it and forget-it" type of configuration change, so that within-word searching happens always, automatically. I don't want to have to type a * before every query. Apparently this wasn't clear from what I wrote above.

• Vertical alignment problem in textbox in Microsoft Word 2007

  I pardon as its not a programming question at all. But if anybody can answer this it will be usefull for me. In MS word 2007 I drew a textbox and entered some text. Then I right clicked on textbox and went to format shape Then went to TextBox tab and reduced the top internal margin to 0.1 cm. But still it seems there is too much space at the top inside the textbox. I am not able to position the text exactly at the vertical middle of textbox. If I choose the auto-rezide option in format Shape, the textBox size is increases automatically but the text remains exactly at vertical and horizontal middle of textbox. but anyhow I need the textbox to be small. This is very minor but annoying problem. Can anybody help?

• Image manipulation filter needed: unobtrusively hide an area by blurring or smudging?

  I would like to hide an empty area of a panorama stitched with hugin (using the GIMP). Hide in the sense of blending it in unobtrusively. I.e. fill the area with the average color of the surroundings and blur it. Or manually smudge the surroundings into the empty area. Is there a filter/plug-in that automatically smudges/blurs the edges into the area? Not looking for seam carving. Thanks.

  What would be a good way to make a script run every time my computer connects to the network in Ubuntu? Would I somehow use dbus to do this? Background: when I'm on the train I run a short Perl script to click a button on the splash page. That way I can immediately use the internet without having to manually visit a pointless website. My script is a near-perfect solution, but it would be perfect if it could run automatically any time I connect to the network.

• Norton Backup "Failed to Restore"

  I recently had one of my computers (XP) die on me. I had it's files set to automatically backup to another PC's HD using Norton. I've tried using Norton restore on the second computer to try and restore some files (word documents, pictures), but when I try to do this, I get a dialog box saying that it "Failed to Restore". When I click to continue, it shows a list of the files I tried to restore, along with a status indicator for each file (which says "invalid file"). Any ideas?

  I am looking for a router that would fit the following requirements: Two WAN interfaces: the primary is PPPoE, the secondary will link to a GigE port on another router (a 100Mbps link will suffice); Two (ideally four) GigE LAN ports; No requirement for a firewall; No requirement for Wi-Fi; Inexpensive. The plan for the two WAN interfaces is as follows. All outbound traffic will go to the primary, with exceptions based on destination IP/subnet or possibly on src+dest IPs/subnets. Such exceptions should be routed to the secondary. It would be very nice if, should the primary go down, the secondary would automatically take over for all outbound traffic. I am reasonably sure that I can put something together based on dd-wrt. However, I'd like to hear from you what alternatives are out there (especially something easier to set up for my use case, even if it means paying more for the hardware.)

• Windows 7 add printer, cancelled, but port still in use. How to remove?

  I tried to add a network printer at www.xxx.yyy.zzz, but halfway it when it asked for a driver, I cancelled it because I do not have the driver at hand. Later when I try to add again, it tells me the port (www.xxx.yyy.zzz), which is automatically specified as the same as the IP for the printer, is already in use and then suggest www.xxx.yyy.zzz_1 Now, I cannot find the www.xxx.yyy.zzz printer anywhere such that I can remove it and use back the same port. How should I do it? Any ideas? Thanks.

Problem The PDF should have a watermark that includes the person's name and contact information. Question What software meets the following criteria: Applies encrypted, undetectable watermarks to a PDF Open Source Platform independent (Linux, Windows) Fast (marks a 200 page PDF in under 1 second) Batch processing (exclusively command-line driven) Collusion-attack resistant Non-fragile (e.g., PDF - EPS - PDF still contains the watermark) Well documented (shows example usages) Ideas & Resources Some thoughts and findings: Natural language processing (NLP) watermarks. Apply steganography on a randomly selected image. http://openstego.sourceforge.net/cmdline.html The problem with NLP is that grammatical errors can be introduced. The problem with steganography is that the images are sourced from an image cache, and so recreating that cache with watermarked images will impart a delay when generating the PDF (I could just delete one image from the cache, but that's not an elegant solution). I'm looking for something similar for Linux. Is there any free download manager that can do this? I have tried KGet and uGet but they both seem to lack this feature. • What happens with the Guest OS's on ESXi in the event of a power failure?

  Many small businesses would prefer to let their server drop on power failure than to pay even $100 for a cheap UPS. It's often difficult to convince them of the value of something like that; it's why they like ESXi. It's free, they can save a lot of cash by putting a bunch of linux servers on one machine, and then I get paid. :) If the ESXi server experiences a power outage, it is set to come back on automatically when power is restored. What happens with the guest OS's? Ideally I would like them to all come online again as well, assuming they were on when power was lost, but I see no option for choosing this. I don't want to yank power to the system just to try it out, of course. I'm sure someone knows what happens by default, and perhaps how to make my system to work as I would wish.

  We have a Debian Lenny server with open-iscsi that's configured to log into a target automatically: hostname:~# grep \\.startup /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf node.startup = automatic hostname:~# grep \\.startup /etc/iscsi/nodes/iqn..../the.correct.ip.address\,port node.startup = automatic node.conn[0].startup = automatic hostname:~# If I issue a restart of open-iscsi via init.d, it works fine. But if I reboot the machine, iscsi starts, but does not even search for targets. I have to manually restart it before it works. Any ideas how to make it find the target on boot?

• How do I login as a different user on Mac OS X Lion?

  I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion which has a single local user (the local administrator account that I setup) and then the domain user setup on the laptop. I've gone into "Login Options" under System Preferences Users & Groups and set the option "Display login window as: Name and password". When the laptop first boots, it has automatically selected the local admin account, and I don't see where I have the option to change users. However, when if I log into that local administrator account and then log out (without rebooting) it will allow me to enter the user and password.

  Avast has added something to their software which Google Chrome tip whenever it informs you of an database update: It seems to only be the same message at the moment, as I am only getting the Search with Google right from the address bar to save time. Try Now: How can I stop it from giving me this tip and only show me the virus definitions have been updated message? Your virus definitions have been automatically updated I have tried looking under Settings > Popups, however I cannot find an option to disable it there. I tried these settings that is in my answer In the avast! settings interface there is an option to turn off recommendations and tips: Settings Community Edit: It doesn't seem to work anymore, it worked for the next 2 database updates and now it is showing the tip again.
