  Hi, We are facing a problem of .Net framework corruption for one our clients with the following environment OS : Windows 2008 Server SP2; Framework : .NET Framework 3.5 SP1; Application Details Database : SQL Server 2008; Server : WCF hosted webservice; Client : WPF based UI; Problem : The Config files inside the "..\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG" are suddenly deleted and and not able to work with my application. • jQuery slideToggle flicker in Firefox

  I have a specific situation with slideToggle that creates a flicker in Firefox. The situation was when the expanding element goes longer than the page and a vertical scrollbar appears in Firefox. If you scroll down to read all of the text in the expanding element and then click on the trigger to close the element, Firefox would flash for a second and then the page readjusts and returns to its position before the expanded element was expanded. I have tried adding ‘return false;’ to no avail.   Hi friends, I have got little tricky issue i.e I am using API of a product which has few methods for uploading image. The UI part of the product has one file upload control which takes files and convert that into binary and save it to database. In the coding part they are using one method where they send this fileupload.postedfile as one of the input parameter to the method. Now my requirement is, I have a directory where there are hundred of files which i have to send each file one by after another to this method as a input. Now i wish to know how to pass a file name as "HttpPostedFile" to that method as a parameter. I have no other option other than using that API (our clients requirement). Thanks

• Running msiexec from a service (Local System account)

  We are working on an update system for our software. The updater should in the background as a service, and when an update is available, downloads and installs it. We need the service to install the update since the msi requires elevation to run, but some of our clients will be restricted users. The MSI is a WIX MSI and does a Major Upgrade when run. The problem is, the update does not seem to work when ran from our service. I can see msiexec run, and it returns successfully, but seems to make no changes to the system. The same command, when run from my user account works as expected. Is there some caveat to running msiexec from a Local System service? We are simply doing: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("msiexec.exe", arguments);

• Is it possible to connect iPhones through NAT traversal techniques over 3G for peer 2 peer gaming

  Is it possible to connect an iPhone to another iPhone or any other network client talking that game's protocol. I was thinking that I could use the same NAT Traversal technique used in the XBox 360 to host games on users XBox's through Firewalls. For NAT traversal to work effectively I'd have to have a central server that would allow clients to "broadcast" that they were hosting so that another client could initiate the NAT connection. In the link provided this is called relaying. Is there any inherent limitation of the US AT&T 3G network that will block the NAT traversal techniques (would you be limited to wifi firewall NAT traversal)? • Is is possible to enable persistent cookies and disable session cookies?

  Hello, We have an application that uses a persistent cookie to store the language of the user and a session cookie for authentication. Now our site starts with a number of tests such as: javascript, cookies, flash plugin, sound and popup and only if all tests succeed you can go to the logon page. After logging in you can see the application. Now one of our clients has a serieus problem, she passes all the tests but upon logging in she goes to the default page and get's redirected tot the logon page again. (form authentication). Now I was wondering how this is possible. It's allmost like a persistent cookie is enabled (otherweise she's not able to skip the language page) and a session cookie isn't.   I've got several div id's, each containing a different client. I want to be able to click the delete button and using ajax and jquery delete the specific div from the database. I'm getting success in AJAX but it's not deleting anything from the DB. • Can a .Net 1.1 client call a .Net 2.0 web service? If so, how?

  We have finally upgraded our web services from .Net 1.1 to .Net 2.0/3.5. One of the clients that calls these web services is run as a windows service. It is probable that the server will be upgraded at customer sites and the windows service will not (at least for some time). Is it possible to massage my .Net 2.0 web services so they will correctly service the calls from the .Net 1.1 client? It doesn't happen in my test environment and I can't find any docs about it online. Thanks for your help, -colin-

  So far, no Delphi version supports SOAP 1.2 clients or server. I have tried for weeks to make it works, but every time a new problem, with VS/C# I could do the same, and make works in 3 days, but I need to do with Delphi 2009. "I write a new version using Rem Objects SDK,", but the result was not better that I had with Delphi SOAP library. But I'm wondering what choice else do I have, which library/component full support SOAP 1.2? I found a message from Bruneau, suggesting Pocket SOAP http://www.pocketsoap.com/pocketsoap/ I dont know how this works, Ill investigate and see what I can do.

• .NET Framework 4 Client Profile vs .NET Framework 3.5 Client Profile

  Currently I am targeting .NET Framework 3.5 Client profile. Under certain conditions (when .NET 1.x or 2.x is installed) the client profile is not installed and instead full version of .NET Framework 3.5. is installed. This limitation has been removed from .NET 4.0 profile - therefore its a nice improvement that significantly reduces download size on certain PCs. However, if I target application to .NET 4.0 then all the clients will have to download new framework. I think ideal scenario would be to target .NET 3.5 profile but point installer to .NET 4.0 client profile. This way PCs with 3.5 installed (65% from our tests at the moment) would be fine and the rest would install .NET 4.0. Is my thinking correct or its not feasible? Will .NET 3.5 profile application run with only .NET 4.0 profile installed? Thank you

  I've been reading through a number of questions on this site regarding NSURLConnection and https, but most relate to "untrusted" certificates and how to allow them nonetheless. My question is a little more basic. I am building an app for a client who handle online donations, and I would like to load their donation script using an NSLURLRequest and POST the values of credit card details (entered in the app). Does NSURLConnection (when connecting to a https url) ensure the encryption of those details as they are sent to the donation script on my clients server? Sorry if this is a basic question, I just couldn't find a place in the apple docs that guaranteed this.

• Webmail client that can open multiple email addresses at once like a desktop client

  I've got 5 email domains with multiple email addresses on each domain. Traditional webmail clients only seem to allow you to browse a single account at a time (ie, you log into that account). With over 20 email addresses I need to monitor, this is obviously a major time sink. Is there a (preferably OSS, unix-based) webmail client that simulates a desktop email client, ie I log in once and can access all the email addresses from a central control panel? I've considered using a ticket system but that is overkill and not really used to my needs.

  Hi, this is my first question, so sorry if the form is wrong! I'm trying to make thrift server (python) and client (c++). However I need to exchange messages in both direction. Client should register (call server's function and wait), and server should listen on same port for N (N- 100k) incoming connections (clients). After some conditions are satisfied, server needs to call functions on each client and collect results and interpret them. I'm little confused, and first questions is "can this be done in Thrift"? Second question is related to mechanism that will allow me bidirectional communication. I guess that I will need two services. One with client's functions other with server's. But I'm confused with calling code. I understand one way communication (calling functions from server), but with calling functions from client side I have a problem. Any suggestions??? Thanks!

• Novell Netware 6 and C#

  Hi, I don't know if anyone has any expertise with Novell Netware or not, but I situation where one of my clients is getting a weird error trying to move a file to a netware share. The situation is pretty complicated but I'll try and outline it as best I can. 1) The application is running as a service 2) The file to be moved is a local file in an accessible location (to the service) 3) The file is being moved with FileInfo.MoveTo(). 4) The MoveTo is throwing an IOException and the message is "a device attached to the system is not functioning". I'm at a loss as to explain what might be happening. On a side note, it seems that running a small test program interactively using the same method (FileInfo.MoveTo) to the same location works fine so it seems to be associated with the service itself. • Using .htaccess to server files from Amazon S3 CloudFront

  My ideal setup would be to take a current clients site, upload a .htaccess with a regex inside, that would match the URI, and if it finds a certain file extension, it would use the same path, but with an altered domain. ie. Normal path: http://www.domain.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://www.domain.com/assets/js/jquery.js .htaccess translated would turn the above into: http://mycdn.other.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://mycdn.other.com/assets/js/jquery.js I googled this for hours in a row, no luck. Again, this is for actually making use of Amazon's CloudFront. S3 is already mounted to the website for backups and storing files using s3fs, but this doesn't solve the issue since it's using S3 directly, not using the CloudFront.

• SyncFramework upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 Sql Server CE database change tracking issue

  I'm trying to upgrade an application that uses Sync Framework 1.0 to synchronise a SqlServerCe database with SqlServer 2005. On the client, the existing database already has change tracking enabled, but when the sync is initiated SyncFramework 2.0 fails to find the last Sync Received anchor and then tries to re=initialize the Change tracking, which fails. I get the exception... {System.Exception} = {"The specified change tracking operation is not supported. To carry out this operation on the table, disable the change tracking on the table, and enable the change tracking."} It seems like all I can do is delete the local database and recreate it. Which is not a great solution for us, since some of the data in the clients database is not synced with the server, and our users would prefer not to loose this data in the upgrade. Is there any reason why SyncFramework 2.0 cannot locate the existing Last received sync anchor?

  I am investigating moving a thick client SQL based Delphi application to Multi Tier thin clients, and have been looking at using Datasnap in Delphi 2010. I have worked through the White Paper written by Bob Swart and extended this further. My main question really is that I want to make the server side efficient in terms of connections and SQL Queries due to multiple queries being run and remaining open at the same time to interrogate data, can anyone point me in a direction for guidance on how to design a real world Datasnap Server application, as the demo's don't go into enough detail.   Hi folks, Got a problem I need help with. Basically I'm gonna develop a form (part of a bigger web app) that lists a load of clients and there business contact, tech contact 1, and tech contact 2. The idea is rapid data entry. So one form shows each client with their contacts in dropdowns and I we can change each one then click a save button to do a mass save. the database looks like this: tblClient ClientID ClientName BusinessContact Tech1 Tech2 My idea was to use a repeater to format the data like this: Client Business Contact Tech1 Tech2 Client2 Business Contact Tech1 Tech2 What I'm stuck on is how to do the mass update?   I inherited a piece of code that uses document.write to insert a certain div when the code is encountered. Unfortunately, this code is causing issues in IE where the code fails. Is there a way around this to insert a div on the page without it? I can't make a big change since this code is currently used by many clients(it's like google adsense kind of thing). Is there an alternative to document.write - I don't have a way to capture a div on the page since it's something plugged in by anyone.

• Copying Pasting Word 2007 docs to HTML WYSIWYG editors

  Microsoft word has a ton of proprietary formatting and styles that do not translate well to html WYSIWYG editors. When you paste them over to the html editor and try to edit the pasted info it causes all kinds of clashing styles. I want to be able to keep the general structure but leave out the proprietary stuff. Essentially I want to save clients the headache of having to completely strip out all formatting forcing them to redo all the styling again in the WYSIWYG, but at the same time avoid the conflicts that Word formatting creates. Any ideas?

  I'm starting a new project based on ASP.NET and Windows server. The application is planned to be pretty big and serve large amount of clients pulling and updating high freq. changing data. I have previously created projects with Linq-To-Sql or with Ado.Net. My plan for this project is to use VS2010 and the new EF4 framework. It would be great to hear other programmers options about development with Entity Framework Pros and cons from previous experience? Do you think EF4 is ready for production? Should i take the risk or just stick with plain old good ADO.NET?

• "port forwarding": redirect calls to webservice at port 8081 to port 80

  Hi, a colleague of mine wrote a webservice that runs on port 8081 of our Windows 2008 Server. He uses the class ServiceHost, afaik this means its a standalone host (no IIS or ASP involvement). Note: I'm new into WCF ;) Now there are some issues with clients behind a firewall blocking the requests to remote port 8081 of our server (where the webservice runs). The easiest solution would be: run the webservice host at port 80 ... But: there is also a Apache 2.2 webserver running on the Windows Server, hosting some websites. By default it runs on port 80. My solution after some researching: use a virtual host to route requests to a virtual host (lets say http://webservice.[hostname]:80) to the webservice host (http://[hostname]:8081). Is this a good idea? Can Apache handle forwards to standalone webservice hosts? It would be nice if someone could lead me on to the right track :) Best regards, Niels

  hi, i know this question have been mentioned alot here but mine is a little more updated, now with ASP.net 4 and new Ajax client templating plus JASON services. so if i got all these new capabilities will i really need server side controls as long as i can bind on client side, create data-views on client side heck i can even use data-context and apply CRUD operations on clients side. so i actually i wont need button_click server side event or what so ever... i am asking this because i own some commercial Controls like Telerik and Component art and they both offer client side operations ow but still i am confused as to my knowledge creating these controls will still have to go through Page Life cycle please advise me.

• Best Practise for Writing a POS System

  Hi, I'm putting together a basic POS system in C# that needs to print to a receipt printer and open a cash drawer. Do I have to use the Microsoft Point of Service SDK? I've been playing around with printing to my Samsung printer using the Windows driver that came with it, and it seems to work great. I assume though that other printers may not come with Windows drivers and then I would be stuck? Or would I be able to simply use the Generic/Text Driver to print to any printer that supports it? For the cash drawer I would need to send codes directly to the COM port which is fine with me, if it saves me the hassle of helping clients setup OPOS drivers on there systems. Am I going down the wrong path here? Thanks, Gary
