• making an SQL date column visible to a Drupal view

  I'm trying to make a table visible to Views. One of the columns has type date (as opposed to a Unix timestamp). The example I initially tried to copy from is in modules/comment.views.inc in the Views module: // timestamp (when comment was posted) $data['comments']['timestamp'] = array( 'title' => t('Post date'), 'help' => t('Date and time of when the comment was posted.'), 'field' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_field_date', 'click sortable' => TRUE, ), 'sort' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_sort_date', ), 'filter' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_filter_date', ), ); This makes the dates, which are all in the past year or so, show up as "1 Jan 1970 00:33", so evidently a value of '2010-05-12', for example, is being interpreted as 2010 seconds past 1 Jan 1970 00:00. Can anyone point me to a correct way of exporting date columns? EDIT: I'm following up on some clues found at http://drupal.org/node/476774 .

• how to run TimerTask off main UI thread?

  I am having trouble with a TimerTask Interfering with In App Purchasing (Async Tasks). I am weak with Threads, so I believe it is running on the main UI thread, eating up resources. How can I run this outside the UI thread? I have searched, and tried some suggestions using handlers. but seems like I get the same result, app gets really laggy. when I don't run this task (refreshes every 500mS), the activity runs smoothly, and there are no hangs during In app purchases. • Actionscript flex sockets and telnet

  I am trying to make a flex application where it gets data from a telnet connection and I am running into a weird problem. To give a brief introduction, i want to read data from a process that exposes it through a socket. So if in the shell i type telnet localhost 8651i receive the xml and then the connection is closed (I get the following Connection closed by foreign host.) Anyway i found a simple tutorial online for flex that essentially is a telnet client and one would expect it to work but everything follows Murphy's laws and nothing ever works! Now i have messages being printed in every event handler and all places that i can think off. When i connect to the socket nothing happens, no event handler is triggered even the connect or close handler and if i do the following the socket.connected returns false! I get no errors, try catch raises no exception. I am at a loss as to whats going wrong? socket.connect(serverURL, portNumber); msg(socket.connected.toString()); Is there something about telnet that i do not know and its causing this to not work. Whats more interesting is why none of the events get fired. Another interesting thing is that i have some python code that does the same thing and its able to get the xml back! The following is the python code that works! def getStats(host, port): sock = socket.socket() sock.connect((host, port)) res = sock.recv(1024*1024*1024, socket.MSG_WAITALL) sock.close() return statFunc(res) So i ask you whats going wrong!!!!!! Is there some inherent problem with how flex handles sockets?

• Strange behaviour of DataTable with DataGridView

  Please explain me what is happening. I have created a WinForms .NET application which has DataGridView on a form and should update database when DataGridView inline editing is used. Form has SqlDataAdapter _da with four SqlCommands bound to it. DataGridView is bound directly to DataTable _names. Such a CellValueChanged handler: private void dataGridView1_CellValueChanged(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { _da.Update(_names); } does not update database state although _names DataTable is updated. All the rows of _names have RowState == DataRowState.Unchanged Ok, I modified the handler: private void dataGridView1_CellValueChanged(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { DataRow row = _names.Rows[e.RowIndex]; row.BeginEdit(); row.EndEdit(); _da.Update(_names); } this variant really writes modified cell to database, but when I attempt to insert new row into grid, I get an error about an absence of row with index e.RowIndex So, I decided to improve the handler further: private void dataGridView1_CellValueChanged(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { if (_names.Rows.Count<e.RowIndex) { DataRow row = _names.Rows[e.RowIndex]; row.BeginEdit(); row.EndEdit(); } else { DataRow row = _names.NewRow(); row["NameText"] = dataGridView1["NameText", e.RowIndex].Value; _names.Rows.Add(row); } _da.Update(_names); } Now the really strange things happen when I insert new row to grid: the grid remains what it was until _names.Rows.Add(row); After this line THREE rows are inserted into table - two rows with the same value and one with Null value. The slightly modified code: DataRow row = _names.NewRow(); row["NameText"] = "--------------" _names.Rows.Add(row); inserts three rows with three different values: one as entered into the grid, the second with "--------------" value and third - with Null value. I really got stuck in guessing what is happening.

• Game design flaw, need help investigating

  I am not sure if I will be able to get help here but I would give it a shot. The problem is I dont know where the problem is. I have a cards game, in which when you "human" play by dragging a card, then at the end of card being dragged, a handler using postExecute is called with delay of 0.5 sec to start the next player in turn (which is a bot) The bot chooses the color and plays it and at the end of the animation (the card moving to the middle) a handler is started for the next bot and so on. Once the play reaches again to the human player, it waits for his touchs to drag the crad and start the cycle again. The problem that in production, sometimes I am getting errors. The error is resulting in somehow messing up the sequence which ends up with players having more cards than others. After investigation, I found that the transition from human to bot is the problem. Somehow, the transition is happening twice (meaning handler calling post execute twice and the bot is playing twice and everything is messed up). Its been mutliple months and I can't reproduce it (to fix it) and I cna't figure out why this is happeneing? ANY IDEA how I can go after it? How can I get more info about or how can I solve something like that? any pointer would help me

• Using Gtk.TreeDragSource.drag_data_get()

  I have a simple Gtk.TreeView with a Gtk.ListStore with four columns as the model. I want to be able to drag and drop rows within the TreeView and track row insertions, changes and deletions as they happen so I can implement undo/redo to drag and drop operations. I'm using PyGObject 3 and Python 3.2. I thought that using methods under the Gtk.TreeDragSource and Gtk.TreeDragDest interfaces would suit my needs perfectly, with Gtk.TreeDragSource.drag_data_get() in my drag_data_get handler and Gtk.TreeDragDest.drag_data_received() or Gtk.tree_get_row_drag_data() in my drag_data_received handler.   I'm trying to configure a VPN tunnel between an Android device running 4.1 and a Fedora 17 Linux box running strongSwan 5.0. The device reports that it is connected and strongSwan statusall returns that there is an IKE SA, but doesn't display a tunnel. I used the instructions for iOS in the wiki to generate certificates and configure strongSwan. Since Android uses a modified version of racoon this should work and since the connection is partly established I think I am on the right track. • Running a Java program with a .dll from Adobe AIR's native process

  I would like to be able to operate a scanner from my AIR application. Since there's no support for this natively, I'm trying to use the NativeProcess class to start a jar file that can run the scanner. The Java code is using the JTwain library to operate the scanner. The Java application runs fine by itself, and the AIR application can start and communicate with the Java application. The problem seems to be that any time I attempt to use a function from JTwain (which relies on the JTwain.dll), the application dies IF AIR STARTED IT. I'm not sure if there's some limit about referencing dll files from the native process or what.   Hello, I have a DataGridView that I am binding to a POCO. I have the databinding working fine. However, I have added a combobox column that I want to be different for each row. Specifically, I have a grid of purchased items, some of which have sizes (like Adult XL, Adult L) and other items are not sized (like Car Magnet.) So essentially what I want to change is the DATA SOURCE for a combobox column in the data grid. Can that be done? What event can I hook into that would allow me to change properties of certain columns FOR EACH ROW? An acceptable alternative is to change a property when the user clicks or tabs into the row. What event is that? Seth EDIT I need more help with this question. With Triduses help I am SO close but I need a bit more information. First, per the question, is the CellFormatting event really the best/only event for changing the DataSource for a combo box column. I ask because I am doing something rather resource/data intensive, not merely formatting the cell. Second, the cellformatting event is being called just by having the mouse hover over the cell. I tried to set the FormattingApplied property inside my if-block and then I check for it in the if- test but that is returning a weird error message. My ideal situation is that I would apply change the data source for the combo box once for each row and then be done with it. Finally, in order to set the data source of the combobox colunm I have to be able to cast the Cell inside my if block to a type of DataGridViewComboBoxColumn so that I can fill it with rows or set the datasource or something. I don't want to manually add a mouseout event to each link, and I don't want code anywhere other than within the class (and the mouseover event creating the class instance). The class instance also remains in memory indefinitely. On mouseout I need to remove the mouseout event and destroy the class instance, so on subsequent mouseovers we are starting fresh.

• Google Maps Rollover Problem in a Flex Website

  Hi, I'm using Google Maps in my Flex site to create a map. I've got polygons overlayed on the map. When the user rolls over a polygon an infowindow opens identifying the area and the fill Alpha of the area is set to 0. On roll-out, the info window is removed and the fill Alpha is returned to the default, 0.2. The polygons display and the InfoWindow is added and removed correctly. The problem is that the change in fill alpha only occurs on the very last polygon in the list. So for example, if I have polygons A, B, C, and D. If I rollover A, then A's alpha should change. But, instead D's alpha changes. No matter which polygon I rollover, the last polygon's alpha changes. It's weird, because the infoWindows behave correctly on rollover. So, if I rollover polygon A, the correct information for InfoWindow A appears. On the 3rd instance of this class in my application the Column at Index 1 will not display String values. Integer values are displayed properly. If I add print statements to my OnGetItemText method the values show up in my console properly. This behavior is not present in the first two instances of this class, and my class does not contain any type checking code with respect to value display. It was suggested by someone on the wxPython users' group that I create a standalone sample that demonstrates this issue if I can. I'm working on that, but have not yet had time to create a sample that does not rely on database access. Any suggestions or advice would be most appreciated. I'm tearing my hair out on this one.

I need the datagrid to parse the input and place the data in the correct rows and columns of the datagrid. flow: click on a date in the tree and it makes a server request for batch information in xml form. Using a CallResponder I then update the datagrid's dataProvider. • notification scheduling question

  Hi Stackers! I'm building an app that needs to send out notifications to users depending on user definable "notifications". So the notifications are not per event. They are arbitrary. A cron job should query the database and send out emails when it finds an event with matching criterion. The is a scheduling app. So naturally, one of the criterion is time. I think I've figured it out, but I'm sure there are better ideas out there as it seems to be a fairly common thing to do. I think I'll limit the users ability to "minutes before hand" to get notified as opposed to seconds or hours. So I have an eventA and notificationA. notificationA should be triggered if an event is due within 45 minutes. So eventA starts at 17:30. The user should be notified at 16:45. But the cron job might not run exactly at 00 seconds. So when the difference is not 45 minutes and 0 seconds it is, say, 45 minutes and 5 seconds. Notification time is past. Email doesn't get sent. User misses event. Shugar. We should also take into account that the cron job might take a long time to run. So maybe we should only trigger it every 5 minutes. So we need a bigger interval maybe. So then my guess would be to say that: if ((eventDueTime - now notificationTimeValue - interval) && (eventDueTime - now < notificationTimeValue + interval)) sendTheFrikinNotificationAlready(); It seems kind of risky if the there are thousands of notifications to send out. I guess I could make a thread for each notification and then a thread for each event that matches the criterion. That might help. Does that make sense? Any other ideas? Thanks!

• Flex - Problem with auto resizing datagrid

  Hi All I'm trying to create a datagrid which will resize vertically to ensure all the renderers are displayed in full. Additionally, Renderers are of variable height Renderers can resize themselves Generally speaking, the flow of events is as follows : One of the item renderers resizes itself (normally in response to a user click etc) It dispatches a bubbling event which the parent datagrid picks up The DataGrid attempts to resize to ensure that all renderers remain visible in full. I'm currently using this code within the datagrid to calculate the height: height = measureHeightOfItems(0, dataProvider.length ) + headerHeight; This appears to get an incorrect height. I've tried a number of variations including callLater ( to ensure the resize has completed so measure can work correctly), and overriding meausre() and calling invalidateSize() / validateSize(), but neither works. Below are 3 classes which will illustrate the problem. Clicking the button in the item renderers resizes the renderer. The grid should also expand so that all of the 3 renderers are shown in their entirety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.   I'm somewhat new to programming and am unsure how to deal with a segmentation fault that appears to be coming from a std function. • QT vs. Net - REAL comparisons for R.A.D. projects

  Man in all these Qt vs. .NET discussions 90% these people argue about the dumbest crap. Trying to get a real comparison chart here, because I know a little about both frameworks but I don't know everything. I believe Qt and .NET both have strengths and weaknesses. This is to make a comparison that highlights these so people can make more informed decisions before embarking on a project, in the spirit of R.A.D. Event Handling In Qt the event handling system is very simple. You just emit signals when something cool happens and then catch them in slots. ie. // run some calculations, then emit valueChanged(30, false, 20.2); and then catching it, any object can make a slot to recieve that message easily void MyObj::valueChanged(int percent, bool ok, float timeRemaining). It's easy to "block" an event or "disconnect" when needed, and works seamlessly across threads... once you get the hang of it, it just seems a lot more natural and intuitive than the way the .NET event handling is set up (you know, void valueChanged(object sender, CustomEventArgs e). And I'm not just talking about syntax, because in the end the .NET anonymous delegates are the bomb. I'm also talking about in more than just reflection (because, yes, .NET obviously has much stronger reflection capabilities). I'm talking about in the way the system feels to a human being. Qt wins hands down for the simplest yet still flexible event handling system ever i m o. Plugins and such I do love some of the ease of C# compared to C++, as well as .NET's assembly architecture, even though it leads to a bunch of .dll's (there's ways to combine everything into a single exe though). That is a big bonus for modular projects, which are a PITA to import stuff in C++ as far as RAD is concerned. Database Ease of Doing Crap Also what about datasets and database manipulations. I think .net wins here but I'm not sure. Threading/Conccurency How do you guys think of the threading? In .NET, all I've ever done is make like a list of master worker threads with locks. I like QConcurrentFramework, you don't worry about locks or anything, and with the ease of the signal slot system across threads it's nice to get notified about the progress of things. QConcurrent is the simplest threading mechanism I've ever played with. Memory Usage Also what do you think of the overall memory usage comparison. Is the .NET garbage collector pretty on the ball and quick compared to the instantaneous nature of native memory management? Or does it just let programs leak up a storm and lag the computer then clean it up when it's about to really lag? Doesn't the just-in-time compiler make native code that is pretty good, like and that only happens the first time the program is run? However, I am a n00b who doesn't know what I'm talking about, please school me on the subject.

  In Flash Builder (flex 4) I try to use next code to set selected by user (from file system) Image as a repeated background. It worked with mx:Image but I want to use cool repited capabiletis of s:BitmapFill. BTW: Technic I use also does not work with S:BitmapImage. Also FP does not return any errors. • ASP.NET RadioButtonList help. If I set a selectedItem, that item doesn't react to SelectedIndexChang

  Hi Guys, I have a RadioButtonList on my web form. I have tried two different means to set the selected item. I have tried in the markup, and in code, like the Page_Load event. It sets and displays correctly. My problem is that the selected radio button no longer responds to the SelectedIndexChanged event. The other items works as expected and if I remove the code that sets the selectedItem, then the radio button works as expected. Is there any way I can set a radio button through code, and it still behaves as I would expect. I am guessing, if u force a button to be selected, then it doesn't change. Does anyone know how to rememdey this so I can default select it, but still have it behave the way I want? <asp:RadioButtonList ID="rblPaymentType" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" RepeatLayout="Flow"> <asp:ListItem Value="benefit" Text="Benefit" Selected="True"/> <asp:ListItem Value="expense" Text="Expense" /> </asp:RadioButtonList> This lives inside an ascx which I have an event for public delegate void SwitchBenefitTypeHandler(object sender, EventArgs e); public event SwitchBenefitTypeHandler SwitchedBenefit; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { WireEvents(); } private void WireEvents() { rblPaymentType.SelectedIndexChanged += (sender, args) => SwitchedBenefit(sender, args); } Then on the aspx, I wire a handler function to that event. if (header is PaymentHeader) (header as PaymentHeader).SwitchedBenefit += (paymentForm as PaymentBaseControl).Update; Finally the handler function public override void Update(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (sender is RadioButtonList) { IsExpense = (sender as RadioButtonList).SelectedValue == "expense"; UpdateCalcFlag(); UpdateDropDownDataSources(); UpdatePaymentTypeDropDown(); ResetBenefitLabels(); FormatAmountTextBox(); } } I hope that's enough code.
