• Randomely loosing wireless connexion with Cubuntu 12.04

  I am presently experiencing random disconnections from my wireless network. It looks like it is more and more frequent (however I have not seen any clear pattern). This is killing me... • Laptop overheating within minutes of start up

  I have a Dell Windows 7 Home Prem with an I7-720QM. More information on the computer can be found here http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/servicetag/51CVCN1/configuration The Problem I am having is the computer will over heat unnaturally fast. From the time it takes from boot to when i can run my diagnostic tools which takes about two minutes the cpu temp is 86c after a few more minutes the cpu temp will reach 100 and the computer will black screen shut down. In total the the laptop can only be run for 3-5 minutes before completely shutting off. During this time there is nothing extensive running. After the laptop shuts down you have to wait for it to cool down or it will shut off even faster sometimes 7-15 seconds well still in the boot screen. Does anyone know what could be the problem maybe a sensor or is the computer fried?

Here is the Minidump: Bug Check Code = 0x00000124 Caused By Driver = ntoskrnl.exe Caused By Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Crash Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Seems to be hardware problem, but I checked RAM, no error. I have two HDs installed, system is on SSD, data is on HDD. Checked SSD with the properties-tools-error-checking , no error. Re-installed several times, still happens even after removed HDD. Configuration: SSD: Crucial M4-CT064M4SSD2 with Firmware 0009 Intel HM65 CPU: i7-2630QM The SSD is set correctly, SATA III 6Gb/s enabled, and everything worked perfectly for nearly a year.

  If I send an email from, say, Thunderbird, and have "Helvetica/Arial" set as my default outgoing font, then my assumption is that most of the world will read that email in Helvetica (Apple) or Arial (Windows). But what if I send that email to another Ubuntu user who does not have the MS core fonts installed? What will the email's font default to? Would Ubuntu override it with something like sans-serif, perhaps?

  I have a USB internet connection which I plugged into my laptop. I converted my laptop's Wifi into a Wifi router so that I can attach my PC and cell to this network and enjoy internet, but it doesn't work. I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 i7 Windows 7 64-bit laptop, Dell D865 PC and Nokia C5. My PC and cell are showing that there is a new Wifi connection available, but when I connect to it, it won't load any web page. Reason is my laptop's Wifi is not emitting any internet signals or may be some other issue which i dont know.. laptop's adapter is 802.11b/g/n I don't know why. How can I enjoy Wifi internet on laptop, PC and cell at the same time?

  I just got a 15" MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM, 2.66 i7 and 500GB SSD. Very sweet and fast! My old machine was 2.66 Core 2 Duo. I used Migration Assistant to migrate my old MBP to the new. When I started VMware to run Windows and Ubuntu I got the message first This VM has been moved or copied to a new machine. Did you move or copy it? I answered Copied. Then I got the message this CPU is a different configuration than the machine that created the VM. You may get unpredictable results. I answered Open Anyway. Windows XP, Windows 7, and Ubuntu all seem to work OK, but how can I verify? Is there some form of test harness for a VM? I have had a VM degrade and become unusable with very catastrophic data loss (on Parallels...), so I am a bit paranoid. Thanks,

  On my older system i ran the 32 bit version of Ubuntu with 4 GB of ram and noticed it rarely come near 1 gig of usage.I have my new system running with the 64 bit version.The new system is a quad core with 8 GB of ram and Ubuntu is using 1 gig now.Is this normal?I have run top and noticed certain processes such as compiz,xorg and lightdm seeming to be using a lot.I also upgraded in my new system with an msi radeon hd6450 graphics card that s supposed to have 2 gigs on it.

• Mountain Lion screen crashes after returning from sleep

  During the past 3 days I have experienced the following issue: when returning from sleep, I see an extremely garbled version of my desktop. The only thing that seems to help is a reboot. My first guess is that this is related to the video card. After looking into this issue, I found a lot of problems related to ML and returning from sleep, such as this post on AskDifferent, but I think this is a different issue because it does not speak of a garbled screen. Some more details: System: MacBook Pro 15" early 2011, 2,2GHZ I7, 8GB Ram, AMD Radeon HD6750M 1024 The issue seems to happen only when I open my laptop in the morning; if I close and open my laptop during the day, it does not seem to happen. The issue 'solves' when rebooting.   Right now I'm working on I.MX53 Quick Start Board for which has provided me the eu-boot kernel image with it and Android rootfs. It is working fine. The problem is when I am trying to change the rootfs with Ubuntu, I am able to use CLI with all 6 terminals working but no GUI is working. I tried many versions of rootfs like Ubuntu 11.10, 12.04 and core etc. Everything with the same result. Please help me.

  I've been trying to get my dual desktops working on Ubuntu for a while. I previously had them as one large desktop, but that was incredibly slow for some reason. I tried to switch them to multi display desktop on the AMD Catalyst Control Center.   I have HP Pavilion dv7 BeatsAudo model: dv7-6b with following specifications: CPU: Intel i7-2670QM ( Quad Core ) 8 CPU's @ 2.2Ghz RAM: 8GB @ 1066 GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6770M 1GB Notebook has two slots: HDMI and VGA On my VGA i have an external monitor 24" Samsung, any idea if my notebook could support a second external monitor as well. I do a lot of development work, i havent got a second monitor to test it yes but i know there can be problems. I would like to have a monitor connected on my VGA and on my HDMI so two external monitors and notebooks monitor. Would this be viable ?

• Xorg constant high cpu usage

  CPU AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ Kernel 2.6.38-7.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 X server version: X.Org X Server 1.9.0 OpenGL direct rendering: Yes OpenGL vendor: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer: GeForce 8400 GS/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 270.41.06 GCC version: 4.4.5 Java version: 1.6.0_20 Python version: 2.6.6 GTK version: 2.22.0 PyGTK version: 2.21.0 Firefox version: Mozilla Firefox 5.0 Ubuntu version: 10.10 GNOME version: 2.32.0 The issue is, the Xorg process always seems to be active with over 6% CPU and +50MB RAM usage, which in turn keeps the fans blowing all the time.
