  • Retrieving part of a string using jQuery / JavaScript

    - by ILMV
    I know how I would achieve this using PHP, but with jQuery / JavaScript I'm not sure how to, here's the string I'm dealing with (It's the name attribute from a input element): Field[0][some_random_text] I want to retrieve the value some_random_text and slap it in a variable, I guess I would usually use regex to accomplish this task but not sure how this is done in JavaScript. Here are some characteristics of this name attribute. It will always be in this format string[string][string] Each of the strings can be any length How would I get the some_random_text string? I'd like to stick to the standard set of functions if possible.

  • using document.createDocumentFragment() child dom elements that contain jQuery.data

    - by taber
    I want to use document.createDocumentFragment() to create an optimized collection of HTML elements that contain ".data" coming from jQuery (v 1.4.2), but I'm kind of stuck on how to get the data to surface from the HTML elements. Here's my code: var genres_html = document.createDocumentFragment(); $(xmlData).find('genres').each(function(i, node) { var genre = document.createElement('a'); $(genre).addClass('button') .attr('href', 'javascript:void(0)') .html( $(node).find('genreName:first').text() ) .data('genreData', { id: $(node).find('genreID:first').text() }); genres_html.appendChild( genre.cloneNode(true) ); }); $('#list').html(genres_html); // error: $('#list a:first').data('genreData') is null alert($('#list a:first').data('genreData').id); What am I doing wrong here? I suspect it's probably something with .cloneNode() not carrying over the data when the element is appended to the documentFragment. Sometimes there are tons of rows so I want to keep things pretty optimized, speed-wise. Thanks!

  • jquery issue, disable on mouseenter queue

    - by jason
    When you mouseenter .li_group class it does a slide down effect on 1 single <li> tag, everything goes smoothly, but during the delay if you take your mouse off and on .li_group it "queues" the effect and slides the li down, delay, slides it down again etc etc... I have tried every way i can think of, even stop(); but it still does it... the reason i use mouseenter instead of hover, is because it works better for ul / li list $(".li_group").live('mouseenter',function(){ var id = "#ec1"; $(id).slideDown(); }).live('mouseleave',function(){ if (jQuery.support.cssFloat==true || getInternetExplorerVersion() > 7) { //ie < 8 endless up/down on close var id = "#ec1"; $(id).delay(5000).slideUp('fast'); } });

Here is my code. $(document).ready(function(){ $('a').live('click', function(){ var link = $(this).attr("href"); $.ajax({ url: link, success: function(html){ $('#load').html(html) } }); }); }); this has been a real headache and I feel I am just misusing something. • Seeking to zoom in on an image, slowly, on page load, using Jquery

    - by Heath Waller
    Hello, I am looking to give the impression of zooming in from a large image to a detailed area of that image, over time, when the page loads - using javascript (jquery, preferably). I have been given the following flash site as a reference (action happens just after title fades in): http://www.delicatessennyc.com/ Not sure if this is even possible. I know I could switch out the large image for a smaller one - but my boss is hellbent of achieving this flash-type action using javascript. Please note, I've searched the plugins and I've not found anything like what I'm looking for. And I'm so new to this type of coding that cobbling it together from scratch seems daunting. Thank you all so much.

    - by Marco
    Hi guys, i'm adding and removing <li> elements with jQuery, that are shown horizontally with the following style: #my_ul { list-style: none; } #my_ul li { float: left; margin: 0px 15px; } For example, if i add four <li> to an <ul> and then i decide to remove the second one, after it has been removed the other two <li> elements on the right immediately move to the left. What i'd like to do is to animate this behaviour, with the remaining <li> elements that softly moves to the left. Any tips? Thanks

  • Not able to close Dialog from parent dialog reference

    - by coffeeaddict
    In the dialog content, I have this: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#cancel").click(function(o) { alert(parent.$('#dialog')); parent.$("#dialog").dialog("close"); o.preventDefault(); }); }); </script> and also tried this: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#cancel").click(function(o) { $(this).closest("#dialog").dialog("close"); o.preventDefault(); }); }); </script> <a id="cancel" href="#"><img src="images/cancelBtn.gif" /></a> This code again is the content of my dialog. When the user clicks the hyperlink I'm trying to close the parent dialog (the dialog that this content is in) but it's not doing anything. I know that the alert gets hit and that there is an object for parent.$('#dialog'); so not sure why it won't close the parent dialog

  • Posting from JQuery to WCF Service

    - by Villager
    Hello, I have a WCF Service (called "myservice.svc") that takes a message from a user and saves it to the database. It returns a response to the user in the form of a number. This operation looks like this: [OperationContract] [WebGet] public string SubmitMessage(string message) { try { // SAVE TO DATABASE return "1"; } catch (Exception ex) { return "0"; } } I want to call this operation from some JQuery. I'm using the approach shown here: $.getJSON( "/services/myService.svc", {message:"some text"}, function (data) { alert("success"); } ); Oddly, the "success" alert is never displayed. In addition, I have set a breakpoint in my WCF service and it is never being tripped. What am I doing wrong? Thank you

  • Jquery datePicker

    - by Shane
    I have slight issue with the jquery datepicker in that it displays ABOVE the target box. This is due to the way my page is set up. I found the issue with CSS in my page via firebug, unfortunately it conflicts with about 20 elements. Next I tried hooking into the "beforeShow event" which works but then after the event fires it just recalculates and puts it where ever it wants. beforeShow: function() { $('#ui-datepicker-div').show(); var offset = $('#ui-datepicker-div').offset(); $('#ui-datepicker-div').css({ top: (offset.top + 222) + 'px' }) } Does anyone else have any ideas how how I can reposition this? I just need to move it down by about 200 odd pixels.

  • Very simple jQuery rollover

    - by Gusepo
    I made a very simple jQuery img rollover function inspired by this one: http://www.smileycat.com/miaow/archives/000224.php. It just check all the imgs that contain _off in their name and swap them with an img with the same name but "_on" instead of "_off". Since I can't use background imgs in my layout, I feel that's an handy solution. But I've got the feeling that the swapping is not smooth, like if the function runs slow. What do you think? Are there ways to optimize it? Here is the code: function roll_over() { $("img[src*='_off']").hover( function() { var stringa = $(this).attr("src"); var stringa = stringa.replace("_off", "_on"); $(this).attr("src", stringa); }, function() { var stringa = $(this).attr("src"); var stringa = stringa.replace("_on", "_off"); $(this).attr("src", stringa); } ); }

  • calling a function or communicating from one browser window to another using Jquery / javascript

    - by Shanon
    Hello, I am designing a web site that plays music. The music player itself will be in a separate window along with the now playing list. I want to be able to refresh the now playing list when a new song is added to it from the main window. Essentially I need to figure out how to communicate between the two windows. I was only able to find one plugin on line that defines the player page as a child of the main page but then this reference would be lost after the parent page i.e my main page was refreshed. So this was not very useful to me and I'm kinda lost atm. Any help is greatly appreciated PS: here is the link to that plugin (http://www.sfpeter.com/2008/03/13/communication-between-browser-windows-with-jquery-my-new-plugin/)

The IE javascript debugger claims the error lies in main.js, line 139 character 28. (the google maps api file). Which is this line: function zf(a,b){a=a.style;a.width=b.getWidthString();a.height=b.getHeightString()} Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  • Not all parameters get sent in jquery ajax call

    - by rksprst
    I have a strange error where my jquery ajax request doesn't submit all the parameters. $.ajax({ url: "/ajax/doAssignTask", type: 'GET', contentType: "application/json", data: { "just_a_task": just_a_task, "fb_post_date": fb_post_date, "task_fb_postId": task_fb_postId, "sedia_task_guid": sedia_task_guid, "itemGuid": itemGuid, "itemType": itemType, "taskName": taskName, "assignedToUserGuid": assignedToUserGuid, "taskDescription": taskDescription }, success: function(data, status) { //success code }, error: function(xhr, desc, err) { //error code } }); But using firebug (and debugging) I can see that only these variables are posted: assignedToUserGuid itemGuid itemType just_a_task taskDescription taskName It's missing fb_post_date, task_fb_postId, and sedia_task_guid I have no idea what would cause it to post only some items and not others? Anyone know? Data is sent to asp.net controller that returns jsonresult (hence the contentType) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
