• when to clear or make null asp .net mvc models?

  HI, I am working in an asp .net mvc application. I am using the model and storing some of the values which i need to preserve between the page posts, in the form of datacontexts. Say my model looks something like this: public SelectedUser SelectedUserDetails { //get and set has //this.datacontext.data.SelectedUser = ..... //return this.datacontext.data..... } Now when this model needs to be cleared? I have many such models with many properties and datacontext. But I don't have an idea on when to clear it. Is there a way or an event that can be triggered automatically when the model is not used for a long time? Oneway I thought is when i navigate away from a page which uses my underlying model, I can clear that model if its no longer used anywhere and initialise it back as needed. But I need to clear almost many models at many points. Is there an automatic way that can clear models when it is no longer used beacuse care can be taken by my code to initialise them when I need them, but I don't know when to clear them when I no longer need them. I need this to get rid of any memory related issues. Any thoughts or comments?

• zend-framework doctrine, and mvc pattern: what should connect data between models and forms?

  I am learning Zend Framework and Doctrine. I am wondering what is the best practice to connect forms to models and vice versa. I don't know where I should put my code. I have seen in Zendcast video tutorials where author creates methods like mapFormToRecord and mapRecordToForm in form class. Well I guess it is very handy when form is sophisticated and uses many records. Is it a good practice? I somehow believe that form-class should not need to know about data-records. And sometimes we might have model which is used in many forms. So It would be handy to have few functions in that model which would help to prepare data for forms. For example to give an array of id=name pairs so that it might be used in Zend_Form_Element_Select. However I would like to have a consistency. So I don't want to put this code nor in model nor in form because on different situations I act different. So only controller is what is left to deal it. However this will result in code duplication if one form will be used more than in one controller. Moreover controller gets bloated if form is not from the simple ones. Or maybe there is a consistent pattern in those data conversions between forms and models? I think that there is. At least in my simple cases. So maybe a separate class could be a solution? Where should I put such class and how should I name it? Another question: Zend_Form has validators and filter. Doctrine has validators and filters too. Which do we use and when? What is your way of dealing the connections between forms and models? (Sorry if it was hard for you to read my text. I don't have enough knowledge of English language to express myself freely)

• One controller with multiple models? Am I doing this correctly?

  My web app, up until this point, has been fairly straight forward. I have Users, Contacts, Appointments and a few other things to manage. All of these are easy - it's just one model per section so I just did a scaffold for each, then modified the scaffolded code to fit my need. Pretty easy... Unfortunately I am having a problem on this next section because I want the 'Financials' section of my app to be more in depth than the other sections which I simply scaffolded. For example, when the user clicks the 'Contacts' link on the navigation bar, it just shows a list of contacts, pretty straight forward and is in line with the scaffold. However, when the user clicks the 'Financials' link on the navigation bar, I want to show the bank accounts on the left of the page and a few of the transactions on the right. So the financials tab will basically work with data from two models: transactions and bank_accounts. I think I should make the models (transactions & bank_accounts) and then make a controller called Financials, then I can query the models from the Financials controller and display the pages in app/views/financials/ Am I correct in this app layout? I have never worked with more than the basics of scaffolding so I want to ensure I get this right! Thank you!

  basically i'm trying to reproduce the following mssql query as LINQ SELECT DISTINCT [TABLENAME], [COLUMNNAME] FROM [DATATABLE] the closest i've got is Dim query = (From row As DataRow In ds.Tables("DATATABLE").Rows _ Select row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME").Distinct when i do the above i get the error Range variable name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. i was sort of expecting it to return a collection that i could then iterate through and perform actions for each entry. maybe a datarow collection? As a complete LINQ newb, i'm not sure what i'm missing. i've tried variations on Select new with { row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME")} and get: Anonymous type member name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. Also, does anyone know of any good books/resources to get fluent?

I would also like to wrap a <div> around the image to prevent unnecessary markup.   I'm using Delphi Pro 6 on Windows XP with FastMM 4.92 and the JEDI JVCL 3.0. Given the code below, I'm having the following problem: only the first exception handling block gets a valid instance of E. The other blocks match properly with the class of the Exception being raised, but E is unassigned (nil). For example, given the current order of the exception handling blocks when I raise an E1 the block for E1 matches and E is a valid object instance. However, if I try to raise an E2, that block does match, but E is unassigned (nil). If I move the E2 catching block to the top of the ordering and raise an E1, then when the E1 block matches E is is now unassigned. With this new ordering if I raise an E2, E is properly assigned when it wasn't when the E2 block was not the first block in the ordering. Note I tried this case with a bare-bones project consisting of just a single Delphi form. Am I doing something really silly here or is something really wrong? • Attempting to update multiple partial views from a single Ajax.ActionLink

  I have a a partial view which contains other partial views. I am trying to the main partial view ( "MainPartialView" ) from an Ajax.ActionLink in a partial view contained by the main partial view ( "DetailsView" ). Everything appears to be called just fine and I can step through and it executes all of the code on the pages.   I'm deleting several items from a table using Entity Framework. There isn't a foreign key / parent object so I can't handle this with OnDeleteCascade. Right now I'm doing this: var widgets = context.Widgets .Where(w => w.WidgetId == widgetId); foreach (Widget widget in widgets) { context.Widgets.DeleteObject(widget); } context.SaveChanges(); It works but the foreach bugs me. I'm using EF4 but I don't want to execute SQL. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything - this is as good as it gets, right? I can abstract it with an extension method or helper, but somewhere we're still going to be doing a foreach, right?

If you group your form into different fieldsets, the FormWizard will automagically display one section at a time, with a Next hyperlink to take you to the next section: <a id="step0Next" class="next" href="#">Next ></a> My question is this: Using the jQuery Validation plugin, how can I validate each fieldset when a user clicks Next, and so forth, instead of using the Submit button.   I'm trying to check if a date is not null in linq and if it isn't check its a past date. QuestionnaireRepo.FindAll(q => !q.ExpiredDate.HasValue || q.ExpiredDate >DateTime.Now).OrderByDescending(order => order.CreatedDate); I need the second check to only apply if the first is true. I am using a single repository pattern and FindAll accepted a where clause ANy ideas? There are lots of similar questions on here but not that give the answer, I'm very new to Linq as you may of guessed :) Edit: I get the results I require now but it will be checking the conditional on null values in some cases. Is this not a bad thing?

(where Item and Group are classes which can exist in the tree). HierarchicalDataTemplates appear to be the way to approach this, but I'm specifically having trouble understanding how I might apply the template to interpret the different classes correctly. A similar question was asked for WPF, the answer for which made use of the TargetType property on the HierarchicalDataTemplate, but I am uncertain whether that property is available in the silverlight version since I don't appear to have access to it in my environment.

  I am very new to WPF and needed some pointers as to why this is not working correctly. I am trying to make a maximize button that will change to a restore button when clicked. I thought a toggle button with 2 different styles that would be changed in the code behind could work. I am first trying to get the maximize button working and have ran into a problem. I get the error 'System.Windows.Controls.Image' is not a valid value for the 'System.Windows.Controls.Image.Source' property on a Setter. in my xaml. I seem to be not understanding something completely. • ASP.NET MVC Areas Application Using Multiple Projects

  Hi I have been following this tutorial: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee307987(VS.100).aspx#registering_routes_in_account_and_store_areas and have an application (a bit more complex) like this set up. All the areas are working fine, however I have noticed that if I change the project name of the Accounts project to say Areas.Accounts, that it wont find any of my views within the accounts project due to the Area name not being the same as the project name e.g. the accounts routes.cs file still has this: public override string AreaName { get { return "Accounts"; } } Does anyone know why I would have to change it to this: public override string AreaName { // Needs to match the project name? get { return "Areas.Accounts"; } } for my views in the accounts project to work? I would really like the AreaName to still be Accounts, but for ASP.net MVC to look in the "Views\Areas\Areas.Accounts\" folder when its all munged into one project, rather than trying to find it within "View\Areas\Accounts\" Thanks Mark

  We have this dynamic uploader which creates a new instance of swfupload. I'm a little bit confused with the outputs produced by firefox and ie. Firefox have the same output as chrome, safari and opera. Whenever I clicked a button for adding a new instance, the previous instances of swfupload in firefox refresh while IE don't. • Multiple Silverlight Unit Test Projects in Solution

  I am building out a number of Silverlight 4.0 libraries that are part of the same solution. I like to break them into separate projects and have a Unit Test project for each: SolutionX -LibraryProject1 ---Class1.cs ---Class2.cs -LibraryProject1.Test ---Tests1.cs ---Tests2.cs -LibraryProject2 ---Class1.cs ---Class2.cs ---CLass3.cs -LibraryProject2.Test ---Tests1.cs ---Tests2.cs ---Tests3.cs -LibraryProject3 ---Class1.cs -LibraryProject3.Test ---Tests1.cs This works great when using VS regular test projects and infrastructure because I can create and execute list of test that are aggregated from each Test project. But with the Silverlight Unit Test Framework since the Silverlight Unit Test Project must be the "start up project" I cannot figure how to run a collection of tests from each test project in one go. I have to run each separately then switch the starting project each time. I would prefer to avoid create complex build scripts or build definitions - is there a way to run all the tests at once? -Thanks
