  • LINQ to Entity, using a SQL LIKE operator

    I have a LINQ to ENTITY query that pulls from a table, but I need to be able to create a "fuzzy" type search. So I need to add a where clause that searches by lastname IF they add the criteria in the search box (Textbox, CAN be blank --- in which case it pulls EVERYTHING). Here is what I have so far: var query = from mem in context.Member orderby mem.LastName, mem.FirstName select new { FirstName = mem.FirstName, LastName = mem.LastName, }; That will pull everything out of the Member table that is in the Entity object. Then I have an addition to the logic: sLastName = formCollection["FuzzyLastName"].ToString(); if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(sLastName)) query = query.Where(ln => ln.LastName.Contains(sLastName)); The problem is when the search button is pressed, nothing is returned (0 results). I have run the query against the SQL Server that I expect to happen here and it returns 6 results. This is the query I expect: SELECT mem.LastName, mem.FirstName FROM Members mem WHERE mem.LastName = 'xxx' (when xxx is entered into the textbox) Anyone see anything wrong with this?

  • ADO.NET (WCF) Data Services Query Interceptor Hangs IIS

    I have an ADO.NET Data Service that's supposed to provide read-only access to a somewhat complex database. Logically I have table-per-type (TPT) inheritance in my data model but the EDM doesn't implement inheritance. (Limitation of EF and navigation properties on derived types. STILL not fixed in EF4!) I can query my EDM directly (using a separate project) using a copy of the query I'm trying to run against the web service, results are returned within 10 seconds. Disabling the query interceptors I'm able to make the same query against the web service, results are returned similarly quickly. I can enable some of the query interceptors and the results are returned slowly, up to a minute or so later. Alternatively, I can enable all the query interceptors, expand less of the properties on the main object I'm querying, and results are returned in a similar period of time. (I've increased some of the timeout periods) Up til this point Sql Profiler indicates the slow-down is the database. (That's a post for a different day) But when I enable all my query interceptors and expand all the properties I'd like to have the IIS worker process pegs the CPU for 20 minutes and a query is never even made against the database. This implies to me that yes, my implementation probably sucks but regardless the Data Services "tier" is having an issue it shouldn't. WCF tracing didn't reveal anything interesting to my untrained eye. Details: Data model: Agent-Person-Student Student has a collection of referrals Students and referrals are private, queries against the web service should only return "your" students and referrals. This means Person and Agent need to be filtered too. Other entities (Agent-Organization-School) can be accessed by anyone who has authenticated. The existing security model is poorly suited to perform this type of filtering for this type of data access, the query interceptors are complicated and cause EF to generate some entertaining sql queries.   • Zend Studio Debugger returns Application Error

    When I run debug for my public/index.php I got an application error as output. I've seen that it occurs at this line: foreach($feed->findFeedEntries($entriesLimit) as $entry) If I put a breakpoint before this, all works as expected, I mean, the error is after the line above. If I remove findFeedEntries() method, I can perform debugging without erros.   • Binding a wpf listbox to a combobox

    Hi there, I have created a very basic wpf application that I want to use to record time entries against different projects. I havent used mvvm for this as I think its an overkill. I have a form that contains a combobox and a listbox. I have created a basic entity model like this What I am trying to do is bind the combobox to Project and whenever I select an item from the combobox it updates the listview with the available tasks associated with that project. This is my xaml so far. I dont have any code behind as I have simply clicked on that Data menu and then datasources and dragged and dropped the items over. The application loads ok and the combobox is been populated however nothing is displaying in the listbox.   • Reattaching an object graph to an EntityContext: "cannot track multiple objects with the same key"

    Can EF really be this bad? Maybe... Let's say I have a fully loaded, disconnected object graph that looks like this: myReport = {Report} {ReportEdit {User: "JohnDoe"}} {ReportEdit {User: "JohnDoe"}} Basically a report with 2 edits that were done by the same user. And then I do this: EntityContext.Attach(myReport); InvalidOperationException: An object with the same key already exists in the ObjectStateManager. The ObjectStateManager cannot track multiple objects with the same key. Why? Because the EF is trying to attach the {User: "JohnDoe"} entity TWICE. This will work: myReport = {Report} {ReportEdit {User: "JohnDoe"}} EntityContext.Attach(myReport); No problems here because the {User: "JohnDoe"} entity only appears in the object graph once. What's more, since you can't control how the EF attaches an entity, there is no way to stop it from attaching the entire object graph. So really if you want to reattach a complex entity that contains more than one reference to the same entity... well, good luck. At least that's how it looks to me. Any comments?     Hi, If you are making a LinQ to entities expression for ClassA where A has a relation to ClassB like this: var temp = from p in myEntities.ClassA.Include("ClassB") where ... select p; You will get a set of ClassA:s with the reference to ClassB loaded. The thing in my case is that I dont really need to load ALL the ClassB-references, just a few of them. But I dont want to loop through the list of ClassA:s and load them individually, i want my database operations to be fewer and bigger instead of reading small chunks here and there. Is it possible to put some kind of restrictions on which references to include or do you have to accept this all or nothing style?

Also, since d is DomainViewModel and I later need to access methods from SecuredDomainViewModel, it seems I need to do this: if (((SecuredDomainViewModel<MyContext, MyEntityType>)d).CanEditEntity) But again "MyEntityType" could actually be one of 20 diffent types. Is there anyway to write these types of statements where MyEntityType is returned from some sort of Reflection?

I assume that I'll have to extend the Zend_View_Helper_Placeholder class to accomplish this.

I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated.

When i debug and look at the e.Result, the panel's properties have this exception message: '((System.Windows.Forms.Control)(e.Result)).ClientSize' threw an exception of type 'System.ObjectDisposedException' So the object gets disposed, but "why" is my question, and how can i fix this? I hope someone will answer me, this is making me crazy. Another question i have: Is it allowed to use "ref" with arguments? is it bad programming? Thanks in advance.     I'm pretty new to the EDM, so bear with me. I have a windows form that has a DataGridView on it that's bound from the EDM I created. I figured out how to update my changes fine, but it's when the user creates a new row that I'm having a problem. I tried numerous ways and many google searches, but came up with nothing so far. Here's how the data is loaded: Dim boilerID As Integer = DirectCast(ddlBoiler.SelectedValue, Integer) Dim countryID As Integer = DirectCast(ddlCountry.SelectedValue, Integer) Dim ratings = From r In _Context.Rating _ Where r.Boiler.Boiler_ID = boilerID _ And r.Country.Country_ID = countryID _ Order By r.Sequence _ Select r RatingBindingSource.DataSource = ratings.ToList() Also, all I'm doing to save the information right now is the following: Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click _Context.SaveChanges() End Sub I want the user to be able to use the grid's "new row" feature to add new items to the database instead of having to click a button and open a new dialog. How would this be accomplished? I can include some of the methods i tried for adding new items if anyone needs to see. Thanks!
