  I have two instances of SQL Server: Server1 (SQL Server 2008) Server2 (SQL Server 2005) I am executing a stored procedure from Server1 which references tables on Server2. It is working fine in my test environment: Server1 runs Vista SP2, SQL Server 2008; Server2 runs Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005. However, it is not working in the production environment: Server1 runs Vista SP1, SQL Server 2008; Server2 runs Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005. The error message I receive is: OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "Server2" returned message "No transaction is active.". Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 21 The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "Server2" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

• Rails timezone differences between Time and DateTime

  I have the timezone set. config.time_zone = 'Mountain Time (US & Canada)' Creating a Christmas event from the console... c = Event.new(:title = "Christmas") using Time: c.start = Time.new(2012,12,25) = 2012-12-25 00:00:00 -0700 #has correct offset c.end = Time.new(2012,12,25).end_of_day = 2012-12-25 23:59:59 -0700 #same deal using DateTime: c.start = DateTime.new(2012,12,25) = Tue, 25 Dec 2012 00:00:00 +0000 # no offset c.end = DateTime.new(2012,12,25).end_of_day = Tue, 25 Dec 2012 23:59:59 +0000 # same I've carelessly been using DateTime thinking that input was assumed to be in the config.time_zone but there's no conversion when this gets saved to the db. It's stored just the same as the return values (formatted for the db). Using Time is really no big deal but do I need to manually offset anytime I'm using DateTime and want it to be in the correct zone?

• Too many parameters in MVC2 Controllers or IIS problem?

  I'm using a controller to call a stored procedure that requires 12 parameters. This works perfectly in debug mode locally (working against a remote database), but not when I publish it to my IIS 7 server. It complains about parameter #7, claiming it's not supplied with the URL. The URL call looks like this; http://localhost:50160/GetPlaces?minLat=-90&maxLat=90&minLng=-180&maxLng=180&minDate=0&maxDate=60000000&a=1&b=1&c=1&e=1&f=1&h=1 Does anyone have any idea what may be the cause of this? Any help would be very appreciated here.

  I have been working on many applications which run as windows service or scheduled tasks. Now, i want to make sure that these applications will be fault tolerant and reliable. For example; i have a service that runs every hour. if the service crashes while its operating or running, i d like the application to run again for the same period, to avoid data loss. moreover, i d like the program to report the error with details. My goal is to avoid data loss and not falling behind for running the program. I have built a class library that a user can import into a project. Library is supposed to keep information of running instance of the program, ie. program reads and writes information of running interval, running status etc. This data is stored in a database. I was curious, if there are some best practices to make the scheduled tasks/ windows services fault tolerant and reliable.

  So, lets say you have two SQL Server Databases on the same server that reference each others tables in their Views, Functions and Stored Procedures. You know, things like this: use database_foo create view spaghetti as select f.col1, c.col2 from fusilli f inner join database_bar.dbo.conchigli c on f.id = c.id (I know that cross-database views are not very good practice, but lets just say you're stuck with it) Are there any good techniques to avoid 'hard coding' the database names? (So that should you need to occasionally re-point to a different database - for testing perhaps - you don't need to edit loads of views, fns, sps) I'm interested in SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 solutions.   Disclaimer: let me know if this question is better suited for serverfault.com I want to store information on music, specifically: genres artists albums songs This information will be used in a web application, and I want people to be able to see all of the songs associated to an album, and albums associated to an artist, and artists associated to a genre. I'm currently using MySQL, but before I make a decision to switch I want to know: How easy is scaling horizontally? Is it easier to manage than an SQL based solution? Would the above data I want to store be too hard to do schema-free? When I think association, I immediately think RDBMSs; can data be stored in something like CouchDB but still have some kind of association as stated above?

  I have a datagridview(dgv) with a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn(colLocation) colLocation.AutoComplete = False colLocation.HeaderText = "Stored to" colLocation.DataSource = DB.getLocation() colLocation.DisplayMember = "description" colLocation.ValueMember = "id" I added the colLocation to dgv. "descirption" contains Unicode characters. I can see the comboBox correctly and choose the item. The problem is when the comboBox lost the focus, the value is changed to first item of the comboBox. Any suggestion? Updated: I found out that the ComboBox doesn't change the data when the DisplayMember is in English characters. It changes only when the DisplayMember is in Unicode chracter. • Core Data Image Won't Load Into NSTableView Image Cell

  In my code I am storing an image into my Core Data model (works fine). If I set up my view to have an NSImageView and bind its Data to Controller Key: selection and modelKeyPath: myImagePath, it works. It will show each image for the selected row. I then create a new column in my NSTableView and drag an image cell onto the column. However, I cannot get my Core Data bindings to have the image show up in the cell. I have tried binding both value and data, but no luck. Since I am sure the image is stored properly, what am I doing wrong in my binding to prevent the image from showing up in the table cell? Thanks so much. (My background: new Cocoa developer who has recently gone through the entire Hillegass book.)

• Extracting data from multiple servers SQL 2005 SSIS

  I have created an SSIS package to connect to multiple SQL servers, create a database, a table and a stored procedure. The package also creates a job and schedules it to run every 5 minutes. The requirement is to collect performance metrics. I am using an ado object variable to get the server names and all the above tasks are in a for each loop and everything works fine. Now the problem: I need to create a data flow task, which will connect to each of these servers in turn, copy the performance metrics data over to a central server and purge the source table. I am unable to get this task to work. This task fails with "Unable to obtain Connection" error. Any help will be greatly appreciated. SQL Server Version : 2005 Thanks, Raj

I keep getting an SQLException stating that it doesn't work on FORWARD only resultSet. So how can i obtain this ResultSet with scroll_insensitive capabilites? Thanks in Advance.

  I want to know that Filename1, provided by the user is the same as stored in DB (Filename2). I was about to use string.Equals(Filename1, Filename2, StringComparison.CurrentCultureIgnoreCase) but then I doubted whether I should use StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase. Obviously, I need to do this the same way OS does, or use appropriate API. In some cultures, AFAIK, characters (e.g. vocals) may change if the next one is Capitalized. As I primarily target English-speaking market, I'd like my software to work well throughout the world.

• Trim "Minify" inline css at runtime, expand it at edit time.

  My custom WP theme has a text block in the theme options panel that allows the user to create and maintain a custom css block that is applied to the site template at runtime. I would like to trim or "minify" this content before its stored in the database, but retain all the whitespace when its presented back to the user for editing. Would this be possible? For example, if the user has entered the following as their custom css code... .red {color:red;} .green {color:green;} .blue {color:blue;} Then I would like to store it in the database as: .red{color:red;}.green{color:green;}.blue{color:blue;} But still display it as it was input (ie, retain all the white space and line breaks) when the user is editing the content via my theme options panel.

• How to access SharePoint files and folders from outside SharePoint?

  I need to programatically interface with SharePoint folders, files and lists from outside SharePoint. Most tutorials focus on working within SharePoint itself, or at least on the same server where SharePoint is installed. I need to automate some tasks from completely different servers -- tasks that require reading SharePoint lists, browsing folders, checking files out and in, reading files stored in SharePoint libraries, etc. It used to be easy using UNC folder and file paths. Now many of our SharePoint sites don't allow UNC access (probably for good reasons), but my needs are the same. What languages / libraries / interfaces will allow this? I'd like to be able to do this from server-side .NET code and from PowerShell scripts (not on the SharePoint server). Thanks for any pointers.

  Hello, I write a component which should store some information relative to the project directory. Every time a property of my component is changed it should write a file. So how can a component determine the current project directory at design time. Thanks in advance EDIT: I want to generate a delphi source file every time a property of my component is changed, so that I always get the latest version when I compile my code. Think of it as a kind of code generator. At the moment I set whole path and filename where the source should be stored but I prefer a relative path to the project (or the form/datamodule which contains my component) to make it easier to copy the project on different developer machines.

• iPhone: Grouped Table Confusion

  I'm trying to follow along with this UITableView tutorial and I'm afraid I'm getting confused. What I hope to accomplish is to create a grouped table, which resembles the look and feel of the following image (image source): For each "break" in the table, I assume that I need another section. I understand there is a global NSMutableArray, which acts as the data source to the UITableView. Inside this global array, there are dictionaries for sections and for data, but this is where I start getting confused. Should I create a unique table to store each section in addition to a new table for the rows that are part of that section? In other words, if I have five sections, will I end up with ten unique collections of data (one for each section and one to store the rows related to the section), which all eventually get stored in the global array?

I have tried using the content provider (android.provider.MediaStore.images.Media class), but seem to be getting stuck at a point. Not sure if this is the way to go about it. • Fake Shortcuts in Windows - Is there an API? One for C#?

  I'm not sure what they call the fake shortcuts you often see in Windows now. A good example would be the link to any of the Office 2007 programs. You can tell one of these from a regular shortcut because the Target is grayed out and is not a real path. Can you access these through a .NET API? Like ask for the target? or get any of the information stored within it. I think these are somehow related to Windows Installer and Advertised programs.

• Using the Facebook Graph APIs PHP library

  I am using the PHP library for the Graph API (http://github.com/facebook/php-sdk) but am a bit confused about how it is all working (or not). I just want to authenticate the user and get the user ID back. What I really want to know is what to do once the user has logged in to Facebook and returned to my site. There is data called 'session' in the URL. Does this need to be stored in order to continually get the user ID? It is really not apparent, to me, from the samples or (lack of) documentation. Also, would it be easier to just cut out the PHP library altogether and just handle the reponse myself, storing it in a session variable. If i were to do this, what is the best method of getting/extracting the current users ID?

A serial number may be granted per-machine (or per-operating-system) or per-user (as for CAL in Windows Server: if my application is used by several users on one machine or if it is used by one user on several machines). For per-operating-system licensing, I use SerialNumber of Win32_OperatingSystem.   I've come up with a simple search view to search for records in my app. The user just enters all parameters in the search box then all this is matched against the database, then results are returned. One of these fields is the phone number....now in the database it's stored in the format XXX-XXX-XXX. There are three ways Upload to my account in public, private or protected mode Upload to department account in public, private or protected mode Upload to organization account in public, private or protected mode where public is visible to anyone, private to the group or person only and protected to anyone in the organization. All the files for an organization are stored in a directory say, /files/<organizationId>/, on file server like files +-- 234809 | +img1.jpg | +doc1.pdf +-- 808234 | +doc2.pdf I am storing file-path and privacy level in DB. So, I can control whether to show link to a file URL to an user -- on a given page. The problem is, I do not have any control over file's URL... so, if some one types the URL to img1.jpg in his browser's address bar, there is no way to know whether a logged in user is eligible to see img1.jpg.   Hi all, I'm currently trying to use the zlib to inflate a source of gzipped data. It seems that the inflate API in zlib cannot inflate a gzipped data ( The example http://www.zlib.net/zpipe.c fails to read a gzipped file: "zpipe: invalid or incomplete deflate data" ). I noticed that there is a gzopen function in this API, but , as far as I understand, it only works with a filename or a file descriptor. Can I use this API if my source of gzipped data is stored in memory, in a sql blob, etc... ? Many Thanks Pierre

My page is stored as an embedded resource - but the Frame.Navigate takes a URI.
