• Ajax gets nothing back from the php.

  Hi, I have a problem using Digester and I hope you can help me. I have the following Bean: public class MyEntry { private String entityID; public String getEntityID() { return this.entityID; } public void setEntityID(final String entityID) { this.entityID = entityID; } } And the following XML structure: <entries> <entry> <MyID> 24309LAGH1 </MyID> </entry> </entries> I use the addSetNestedProperties(…) method of the digester API: digester.addSetNestedProperties("entries/entry", "MyID", "entryID"); The following exception occurs: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: Bean has no property named MyID Why is digester searching for a property named “MyID”? • Controlling new features in Spring/Apache tomcat

  Is there a good way to manage roll out of new software in Spring/Tomcat configuration. The problem I am trying to address is being able to rollback newly deployed software provided there are no hard dependencies on other moving pieces. For example changed the guts of an algorithm and now want to deploy the new software with the new change off by default and then turning it on on one of the web servers. An obvious way is to build a session object which has a map of key-value pairs(property,bool) which is populated from a db on a session startup and then the value is persisted for that session. This is so that if the value is reverted back existing sessions which started with the original value retain the original value and giving application consistency. Is there a more obvious inbuilt mechanism to do this?

  Last week, I remade all of my website using the famous Zend Framework and now, I'm starting worrying about it... I'm trying to make an administration zone within a subfolder (also ZF) and a API Zend Application for my mobile Android application. The problem is: I rewrited all routes im my principal website, so now it always search for a route when I go to a subfolder.   I'm having two errors when I test the "mysql_connect()" function in php. I just installed PHP and MySQL from scratch. Whenever I execute the command mysqld start --user=mysql I get the error "mysqld: Too many arguments (first extra is 'start'); Adding the "&" to the end of the command makes no difference (I don't know if it is supposed to). • Can I have both apache and nginx serve my websites?

  I have an existing apache serving a couple of sites. Now I have a new django site that's ajax intensive and so I'm planning to run it on apache's mod_wsgi but I'll use nginx as a reverse proxy. Is it possible to have nginx be a reverse proxy to this new django site while make apache serve the other sites directly without using nginx? Also if you can give me a rough setup on how I might do it if its possible.

• Why is my Internet connection randomly dropping?

  Ever since I have installed 12.04 (clean install not an upgrade), i have been having a drop in the Internet connection. The drop in the connection can be anything from 15 seconds to about 3 mins, and then the connection comes back. This behaviour happens while I am actively browsing the Internet, or if I wake up the computer and open Firefox (sometimes I have connection and sometimes I don't) . Please note that when the internet connection is on, it is not slow (as speedtest.net results show) In the beginning, I thought it was a problem with the driver r8169 for my RTL8111/8168B Ethernet card, so I downloaded the r8168 from Realtek website, followed the detailed instructions (blacklisted r8169, changed the file to '.bsh' ...), but still the same problem persisted. So I switched to a wireless connection, and I got the same problem with internet connection dropping randomly. Any ideas? • Problem with sound driver

  I had problem that sound had lag in Flash. (Other than that, there was no problem.) On the internet, I found that installing OSS4 might help me. So I installed OSS4, but there was some problems (no sound on Flash, and couldn't use function key on the laptop - which is quite annoying), so I try to remove OSS4 and re-installing sound modules. After some mess-up, the whole sound was gone. I used Ubuntu for a year, but I don't know how to use the terminal well (All I know is basic commands like sudo, ls, or apt-get).. Now I'm trying to recover by following instructions at this page, but I have some problems... :( When I try to follow instructions: sudo aplay -l finds no sound drivers. find /lib/modules/'uname -r' | grep snd (backtick changed to ' due to code markup) returns nothing. When I try to do sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-'uname -r' linux-generic, it says that it can't find linux-restricted-modules-3.0.0-13-generic package. lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio" returns this, which doesn't contain anything about the name of the driver. Writing sudo modprobe sn and pressing tab twice only returns sudo modprobe sn9c102. sudo aptitude --purge reinstall linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils linux-image-'uname -r' linux-ubuntu-modules-'uname -r' libasound2 returns this, and didn't change non of above. sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) fails because it can't find the package linux-alsa-driver-modules-3.0.0-13-generic. Compiling ALSA driver doesn't work. When I try to make, it says that /lib/modules/3.0.0-13-generic/build/include/linux/modversions.h doesn't exist. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. Can anyone help me? I can re-install Ubuntu, but I don't want to....

• Encapsulating code in F# (Part 2)

  In part one of this series I showed an example of encapsulation within a local definition. This is useful to know so that you are aware of the scope of value holders etc. but what I am more interested in is encapsulation with regards to generating useful F# code libraries in .Net, this is done by using Namespaces and Modules. Lets have a look at some C# code first… using System; namespace EncapsulationNS { public class EncapsulationCLS { public static void TestMethod() { Console.WriteLine("Hello"); } } } Pretty simple stuff… now the F# equivalent…. namespace EncapsulationNS module EncapsulationMDL = let TestFunction = System.Console.WriteLine("Hello") ()   Even easier… lets look at some specifics about F# namespaces… Namespaces are open. meaning you can have multiple source files and assemblies can contribute to the same namespace. So, Namespaces are a great way to group modules together, so the question needs to be asked, what role do modules play. For me, the F# module is in many ways similar to the vb6 days of modules. In vb6 modules were separate files and simply allowed us to group certain methods together. I find it easier to visualize F# modules this way than to compare them to the C# classes. However that being said one is not restricted to one module per file – there is flexibility to have multiple modules in one code file however with my limited F# experience I would still recommend using the file as the standard level of separating modules as it is very easy to then find your way around a solution. An important note about interop with F# and other .Net languages. I wrote a blog post a while back about a very basic F# to C# interop. If I were to reference an F# library in a C# project (for instance ‘TestFunction’), in C# it would show this method as a static method call, meaning I would not have to instantiate an instance of the module.

  I have a weird problem on my production web server running Apache on Ubuntu: it compresses my images thereby dramatically lowering their quality! Actually I have two virtual hosts running, each located in a different folder. Wether I display .gif images by navigating on the two sites, or acceding them directly by their url, their size and quality are invariably degraded. I tried with three different browsers: same problem. Using them on other sites on the Web: no problem. Of course I disabled mod_deflate on the server (which should not compress images anyway), but the phenomenon remains. On my local développement server, running the same configuration, everything is Ok. Now I'm completely lost! For the record, my configuration: Ubuntu 10.04, Apache 2, Php 5.

• How to configure a Linux kernel based on the modules currently in use?

  Hello, I'm willing to build a minimal kernel with only the needed things for my machine; so I started by compiling the kernel from the ground up, using the default configuration and adding things that I know for sure I have (i.e.: Ethernet card, WiFi card, ...). But there are several other things not so easy to know about (i.e.: the watchdog timer) so I came across AutoKernConf which supposedly detects the hardware of the machine and generates a kernel configuration file with the settings for the found devices. The problem is it contained several settings repeated and even some which I don't have (I'm using a Dell laptop and one of the things it "found" was something of a Toshiba one). So I ended up building a kernel with the configuration that came out of the make allmodconfig command, which is a kernel with most of the things compiled as modules. Booting into that kernel and running lsmod I can see all of the kernel modules in use (the ones really needed) and I would like to know if there is a tool or some way for me to parse that list and convert it to the corresponding kernel configuration file. Or how to map each one with the appropriate options in the kernel so that I can manually set them. Thank you very much for your time.

And of course I can not do the functions I need in my code.   I've set up VMWare Player for my wife. Every once in a while (notably after a kernel update), the VMWare Player needs to be compiled into the kernel. My spouse does not have su- activated (if anybody screws up the OS, it's going to be me). I'd like to give her permission to do this, but only for that program. Is this possible? Can it be done safely (for the OS)? How can it be done?   I can't deploy/manage my Joomla websites On Ubuntu 12.04 Zend Server PHP 5.3.14 due to permissions during Joomla installation/J! extensions installation. All files are unwriteable. Only CHMOD 777 will help but of course it's not resolving the problem due to security issues. • Is it bad practice to run Node.js and apache in parallel?

  I have an idea in mind and would like to know if that's the way to go for my end application. Think of my application as a social networking system in which I want to implement chat functionality. For that, I'd like to push data from the server to the client. I have heard I could use Node.js for that. In the meanwhile, I want a 'regular' system for posting status updates and such, for which I'd like to use PHP and an apache server. The only way I can think of is having Node.js and apache running parallel. But is that the way to go here? I'd think there would be a somewhat neater solution for this.
