• Invalid printer specified

  The error is that when a batch (about 15) of similar 1 page documents are sent to the printer from the server some of them (last time it was 5) fail with the message ‘Invalid printer specified’ and the others work fine. The same document sent 1 second later will work fine. We are using. Winodws 2008 R2 Std server (64 Bites) C# version 4 Crystal API version 13.2 Printer: HP LaserJet 600 M602 This is error message I'm getting. • Running a scheduled task as SYSTEM with console window open

  I am auto creating scheduled tasks with this line within a batch windows script: schtasks /Create /RU SYSTEM /RP SYSTEM /TN startup-task-%%i /TR %SPEEDWAY_DIR%\%TARGET_DIR%%%i\%STARTUPFILE% /SC HOURLY /MO 1 /ST 17:%%i1:00 I wanted to avoid using specific user credentials and thus decided to use SYSTEM. Now, when checking in the taskmanagers process list or, even better, directly with the C:\> schtasks command itself, all is working well, the tasks are running as intended. However in this particular case I would like to have an open console window where I can see the log flying by. I know I could use C:\> tail -f thelogfile.log if I installed e.g. cygwin (on all machines) or some proprietary tools like Baretail on Windows. But since I only switch to these machines in case of trouble, I would prefer to start the scheduled task in such a way that every user immediately sees the log. Any chance? Thanks!

• Running perfmon continuously with periodic reports

  I have a question very similar to this one, but I want to continuously run perfmon, during reboots and throughout the day. Further, I'd like to generate a perfmon report every 10 mins or so. The original question tells me how to run perfmon when the server is restarted, but I don't know how to make perfmon continuously run while throwing periodic files. I've tried setting it as a scheduled task that needs to be done every 10 mins, but this is too sloppy, and when the scheduled task kicks another instance, the current perfmon report writer crashes, and I get a garbage report. I've also tried writing a sloppy batch script that would fire off the task at scheduled intervals, but this is the same problem as the scheduled task. I'm sure I'm just missing something silly, but I don't see it. Ideas? (If it helps, I'm running Windows 7 locally, and I'm trying to set up the processes for boxes running Windows 2008.)

• SCCM Client Push FAIL - Win2000 box

  Hello, When trying to install the SCCM client onto a Windows 2000 box, the install fails. The install script is run through a batch file (CONTENTS: \mdop\SCCM_client\ccmsetup.exe /mp:MDOP /logon smssitecode=MID smsslp=MDOP) hosted on a public area of the network. This script has worked for all machines (mostly Win2003 Server). I've tried enabling all the common services it requires (BITS, IIS Admin, Windows Installer), but it still only runs for a second or two then quits. Here's the piece of the log file where it errors out: [LOG[Couldn't get directory list for directory 'http://MDOP/CCM_Client/ClientPatch'. • Windows wait command till a system time

  I have made a batch script for backup recently. Somewhere in the middle of script I'll have to wait for some time to be reached and then resume the next line of the script. I've scheduled the script at 4:00PM and after the wait command the next line should start at exactly 5:30PM. I thought of using SLEEP command but it's not sure that the commands used before the wait command will end up at certain time(due to inconsistent file sizes) but it's sure that they will be done by 5:00 or 5:10 and next it should execute wait command which waits for certain system clock. I'm checking if there is any command that waits or sleeps until the time specified reaches the system time and resumes there after. Anybody came across this situation and how was that resolved?

  Is there something better than regedit.exe for searching and editing the Windows registry? Update 1: Registrar Registry Manager 6.50 from Resplendence Software Projects, free lite edition meets the two requirements listed below. Direct download URL (2.7 MB). Search can also be restricted to a particular branch in the registry. However exporting and sorting on columns in the search window is disabled in the lite version (and there may be other limitations). I haven't yet evaluated the other candidates. In particular I would like to be able to batch search instead of having to step through with F3. And a go to function that will open a particular registry key, e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer, instead of having to go through from the top, Platform: Windows XP.

• Setting a custom timeout to nmblookup

  As part of a batch script, I have the following command: hostname=$(nmblookup -A $ip_address | awk '$2 == "<20>" {print $1}') Which works fine from a functinality perspective, even for unresolved hosts. The problem is that when the IP address is not reachable or the remote machine does not respond to the SMB request, the command takes about ten seconds to complete. Therefore, the question is simple: is there a way to lower the elapsed time in such cases? Or, in other words, is there a way to set a custom timeout for the nmblookup command? NOTE: I'm interested in solutions that do not make use of SIGALRM or similar mechanisms; if they exist. The nmblookup version is 3.6.3 from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

  Are there any good tools to migrate existing firebird databases to PostgreSQL for Linux systems? I've looked at: FBexport which can be used to dump the data as insert statements, but it's mainly written to export/import from one firebird db to another, not as a migration tool. There's also: Firebird to PostgreSQL Win32 tool, but it's only for win32 systems. Is there any good tool to do this? Or should I just roll my own?

When the week changes for the same person, restart the total.   I want be able to send outgoing email from my website. I want to setup Win2008 smtp to be able to send them respecting all the spam rules. My checklist is: the smtp should be able to accept outgoing email only from internal sites: I will limit it to relay only 127.0.0.1 is this correct? it should have set SPF, DKIM and all the policy avaiable to not be marked as spam: how you would configure it for the internal SMTP? Should I use another kind of server like hMail server? I should be able to send like 30 email from each user session on the website without obliging the user to wait that the email is effectivly sent (I thought to save it on a folder and then use a batch to send them asynchronously). What are my options? What other steps would you add to be sure that the outgoing email is not marked as spam?

  How can I automatically start a program on Amazon's EC2 Windows 2008 web servers? For example, if I wanted to test the "Digg effect" on a web page of mine, how could I open 100 windows 2008 servers at once, each loading one (or two?) instances of the firefox web browser? I have placed a sample batch file in the windows startup folder that echos the time it was called, but it is only started when I actually login remotely via the remote desktop protocol. • Mimic the behavior of a machine added to a domain

  Hello, For some reason, the IT department at our company does not want to add Windows 7 and Windows Vista machine to the domain controller. I hate to always provide my network credentials everytime I access a shared folder on a machine that is joined to the domain. I also hate to always provide my password when I launch outlook or Visual Studio (Team Explorer). Is there a way to mimic the behavior of a machine that is added to a domain without actually adding the machine in the domain? For shares, I can create a batch file that will NET USE the different fileservers we use here but that is a huge security risk as I will type my password as plaintext. Thanks!

• Why would cat6 connectors not work with cat5e patch cable?

  I had a naff batch of cat5 connectors (the latching mechanism didn't work) so decided to order in some cat6 connectors in preparation for the inevitable upgrade. My existing reel of for making patch cables is cat5e utp stranded. I made up a few cables and tested them- none of them worked. I recrimped and still nothing. When i check them with a multi-meter not all pins are connected. This reel has always worked with the previous cat5 connectors so I tested the cat6 connectors on a reel of solid cat5e cable and they work fine. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Or what might be at fault? (cable/connectors) and how I can diagnose? Thanks Lee

  My goal is to implement APC for opcode cache for a drupal 6 production site. I have so far tested APC with several php files with and without including other php files with include_once. Also tried to tweak the apc.ini values for shm_size, apc.include_once_override and apc.stat. Restarted apache every time. Resulting in apc.php not showing any changes in any values. Is there a way to check if the file permissions prevent the apc stay running? I'm tremendously grateful for any suggestions or help.

  This little question is part of a much larger issue I am trying to resolve: Does SQLCMD require a separate install or is it included with the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client (which I just installed on my webserver). Maybe this is just an incorrect path issue. Here is what I tried: C:\>sqlcmd -S tcp:devmojito\mssqlserver2008,1433 'sqlcmd' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. • Converting text file to epub?

  I have a bunch of book length text files I'd really like to read on my EPUB reader (as it happens FBReaderJ). What would be the best route to convert them? I have access to OSX and Linux (Ubuntu). Probably happiest with a command line, but would setting for a GUI for batch conversion. My criteria for success are really based upon the shortfalls I have found with Calibre must do the whole book at least a guess of what the title/author may be. Minimum the source filename for the title. hygienic with files it uses - tidies up after itself (this is less important) doesn't try to be an all-in-one library manager (again, less important). is lenient in parsing special characters (e.g. < and & characters).

• Synchronizing git repository with post-receive hook

  Hello, I have a redmine server and a gitolite server on the same machine. I want Redmine's GIT repository to get updated when a commit is registered. I thought of adding a post-receive script that updates the repository: post-receive: cd home/redmine/repositories/repo git pull this doesn't work because the script is run by the gitolite user instead of the redmine user owner of the repository cloned folder. How can I change the user that executes the script inside a batch script?, is there a cleaner way of updating the repository? thanks in advance.

• Back up Windows 2008 SBS to iSCSI disk

  I've almost no experience with SBS 2008, so please excuse my noob question! SBS 2008 only has the most basic backup utility built in as far as I can tell (similar to Vista), and it will only back up to physical volumes. I've read that you can set up a batch task to backup to a network volume, but right now I just need to get something deployed ASAP. We have an iSCSI target with plenty of free space. Is it worth backing up to an iSCSI target? Or am I wasting my time? If I need to do a recovery from the iSCSI disk, how would I go about it?

  Does anyone know a free traffic monitor tool for Windows XP which can run a configurable program when reaching a limit? Hoo Net Meter and DU Meter can do that, but they both cost money. What I'm trying to do is throttle the connection when getting close to the monthly limit, so that watching YouTube or downloading large files isn't fun any longer, but e-mail or looking something up still work. The throttling part is settled, Traffic Shaper XP works nicely. I just need something to automatically call a batch script when reaching the limit.

  I found out about ForceBindIP and I really love it, so much that I am using it regularly enough to where spamming the same command prompt over and over again is getting painful. Here's ForceBindIP and what it does: http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/forcebindip/ I'm on a 64-bit of Windows 7 Home Premium. What I want to do is add a right-click context menu item so that when I browse items in Windows Explorer, or on my desktop, I can automate a ForceBindIP command (through the prompt). I am permanently connected to two networks: one over ethernet, and one over wireless. My ethernet network takes priority. What I want to do is add a "Run through wireless network" context menu item, that will send the item through this command: ForceBindIP {5F657824-9E3B-46E5-C21E-F52585R6457E} "[path to right-clicked file here]" It will need to run that command in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. I've no experience at all playing with the Windows registry or writing batch files, anything of that sort. I was wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to assist me?

• Trying to mount NFS share on Windows Machien at startup with Z: letter for all users

  Windows Server 2008 We are trying to mount a specific drive letter on a windows machine from a unix machine. We need the mount to be available to the server even if no users are logged in and to users who are logged in with If we run the command from the command prompt manually it conencts and we have access to the NFS share, and can open it and see and edit files. mount -o fileaccess=777 anon \\127.0.0.1\nav z: (ip address replaced with 127.0.0.1 for security reasons) However if we try to automate the task by making an entry in the task schedule for boot time, to execute the batch script, it adds a disconencted drive to the list in 'My Computer' but it is disconencted and when trying to access the drive an error is produced: Z: is not accessible The data area passed to a system call is too small.| Tried as administrator with highest privelidges, as SYSTEM (group) and as my user (adminstator level user) same results. Is there another way to do this? Most of the help I have found online suggest this way but it keeps failing.
