  • Javascript + IFrame + Chrome + Https = strange issue

    - by GuiDoody
Using a modal plugin for jquery, I'm opening an iframe in a modal with a click event and setting the source attribute to a relative url (should be within https). The page containing the click is an authenticated ssl page. In IE and Safari, this works as expected. In Chrome and Firefox, the source url is opened in http not https. If I set the source to an absolute url using https, same result. Example: // This doesn't work - resolves to http $('.lnkViewDetails').click(function(e){ var src = "/ThePage"; $.modal('<iframe src="' + src + '" height="500" width="425" style="border:0" frameborder="no">'); }); // This doesn't work - also resolves to http $('.lnkViewDetails').click(function(e){ var src = "https://MySite.com/ThePage"; $.modal('<iframe src="' + src + '" height="500" width="425" style="border:0" frameborder="no">'); }); Anyone know a way to get around this?

  • Javascript setFullYear

    - by user187870
var currentDate=new Date(); currentDate.setFullYear(2011); alert(currentDate); == this works, it sets the year to 2011 as expected. alert((new Date()).setFullYear(2011)); == this one doesn't work. Any idea why? Am I misunderstanding the syntax?

  • Instantiate a javascript module only one time.

    - by Cedric Dugas
Hey guys, I follow a module pattern where I instantiate components, however, a lot of time a component will only be instantiate one time (example: a comment system for an article). For now I instantiate in the same JS file. but I was wondering if it is the wrong approach? It kind of make no sense to instantiate in the same file and always only once. But at the same time, if this file is in the page I want to have access to my module without instantiate from elsewhere, and IF I need another instance, I just create another from elsewhere... Here is the pattern I follow: ApplicationNamespace.Classname = function() { // constructor function privateFunctionInit() { // private } this.privilegedFunction = function() { // privileged privateFunction(); }; privateFunctionInit() }; ApplicationNamespace.Classname.prototype = { Method: function(){} } var class = new ApplicationNamespace.Classname(); What do you think, wrong approach, or is this good?

  • Write a serverside c++/openGL App, that is accessible via JavaScript

    - by moka
Hi, I am currently having an idea where I want to save an image from a c++/openGL application on demand from a browser. So basically I would like to run the application itself on the server and have a simple communication layer like this: JS - tell application to do calculations (and maybe pass a string or some simple data) application - tell JS when finished and maybe send a link, text or something as simple as that. I don't really have alot of experience with webservers and as such don't know if that is possible at all (it's just my naive thinking). And note: I am not talking about a webGL application, I just want to have simple communication between a c++ serverside application, and the user. Any ideas how to do that? Thanks alot!

  • JavaScript (jQuery) Regular Expression for searching through an array

    - by CoryDorning
First and foremost, I do not know RegEx but am trying to piece something together to make this work. Just wanted you to be forewarned. ;) Anyways, I'm trying to create a regular expression to take a word from an array and see if it matches a word in another array. I only want the search to return true if the keyword array string contains the searchTerm word. (i.e. oneone would be false, so would ones). Any help is GREATLY appreciated. var searchTerm = ['one','two','three']; var keywords = ['String which contains one', 'This string is 2', 'Three is here']; var keywordIndex; // loop through each keyword array $.each(keywords, function(i) { $.each(searchTerm, function(j) { var rSearchTerm = new RegExp('\b' + searchTerm[j] + '\b',i); // if search term is found, swap accordion div content if (keywords[i].search(rSearchTerm) > -1) { keywordIndex = i; // grouping keyword is in } }); // end searchTerm loop }); // end keyword loop

  • JavaScript Self Executing Functions - What's the Difference?

    - by modernzombie
    I am very familiar with self executing functions from working with jQuery. (function($) { /* do stuff */ })(jQuery); Today I was reading the backbone.js source and noticed that they do this: (function() { /* do stuff */ }).call(this); Is this achieving the same thing? Would the following 2 lines of code do the same thing? (function($) { /* do stuff */ })(jQuery); (function($) { /* do stuff */ }).call(jQuery);

  • Update someones birthday with javascript

    - by user2768038
So far the only mathematical way I can think of doing it is this: var age = 18 var today = new Date(); var myDate = new Date(); myDate.setFullYear(2013,3,13); /* My birthday is april 13th */ var y = (today - myDate); var days = ( y / (1000*60*60*24)); if(days >= 360){ var age = age +1; } if(days >= 720){ var age = age +1; } //etc...... document.write(age); Is there a better way of doing the if statements? so that I don't have to write one out for every year? I can't think!

  • how does an object knows about its parent in javascript

    - by alter
Lets suppose I made a class called Person. var Person = function(fname){this.fname = fname;}; pObj is the object I made from this class. var pObj = new Person('top'); now I add one property to Person class, say lname. Person.prototype.lname = "Thomsom"; now pObj.lname gets me "Thomson". My question is that, when pObj didn't find the property lname in it, how does it know where to look for.

  • Simple nested setTimeout() only runs once (JavaScript)

    - by danielfaraday
    For some reason my galleryScroll() function only runs once, even though the function calls itself using setTimeout(). I'm thinking the issue may be related to scope, but I'm not sure: http://jsfiddle.net/CYEBC/2/ $(document).ready(function() { var x = $('#box').offset().left; var y = $('#box').offset().top; galleryScroll(); function galleryScroll() { x = x + 1; y = y + 1; $('#box').offset({ left: x, top: y }); setTimeout('galleryScroll()', 100); } });? The HTML: <html> <head> </head> <body> <div id="box"> </div> </body> </html>

  • Javascript working in Firefox but not in IE -

    - by Summer
I have this authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'+ '<li><a href="auth/create_account">create account</a></li>'; It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer gives me an "Error: Object doesn't support this property or method" I'm mystified - what could be going on here? There's a comment line above the offending line, could that possibly be making a difference? //authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'; Check out the page yourself at http://www.imagineelection.com. I want two little links, "login" and "create account", to appear on the top right of the page. Thanks!

  • Javascript: best solution to wait for all ajax callbacks to be executed

    - by glaz666
Hi! Imagine we have to sources to be requested by ajax. I want to perform some actions when all callbacks are triggered. How this can be done besides this approach: (function($){ var sources = ['http://source1.com', 'http://source2.com'], guard = 0, someHandler = function() { if (guard != sources.length) { return; } //do some actions }; for (var idx in sources) { $.getJSON(sources[idx], function(){ guard++; someHandler(); }) } })(jQuery) What I don't like here is that in this case I can't handle response failing (eg. I can't set timeout for response to come) and overall approach (I suppose there should be a way to use more power of functional programming here) Any ideas? Regards!

  • Undefined test not working in javascript.

    - by James South
I'm getting the error 'foo' is undefined. in my script when i test my function with an undefined parameter. As far as I understand, This shouldn't be happening. My calling code: //var foo var test = peachUI().stringIsNullOrEmpty(foo) ; My function (part of a larger framework). stringIsNullOrEmpty: function (testString) { /// <summary> /// Checks to see if a given string is null or empty. /// </summary> /// <param name="testString" type="String"> /// The string check against. /// </param> /// <returns type="Boolean" /> var $empty = true; if (typeof testString !== "undefined") { if (testString && typeof testString === "string") { if (testString.length > 0) { $empty = false; } } } return $empty; } Any ideas? Please note. I've had a good read of other similar questions before posting this one.

  • JavaScript sleep

    - by Diazath
yes, i know - that question has thousands of answers. please, don't tell me about "setTimeout" method becasuse - yes, everything is possible with that but not so easy as using sleep() method. for example: function fibonacci(n) { console.log("Computing Fibonacci for " + n + "..."); var result = 0; //wait 1 second before computing for lower n sleep(1000); result = (n <= 1) ? 1 : (fibonacci(n - 1) + fibonacci(n - 2)); //wait 1 second before announcing the result sleep(1000); console.log("F(" + n + ") = " + result); return result; } if you know how to get the same result using setTimeout - tell me ;) fibanacci is pretty easy task, because there not more than 2 recursions, but how about n-recursions (like fib(1) + fib(2) + .. + fib(n) and sleep after every "+"? nah, sleep would be muuuuuch easier. but still i can't get working example of implementing it. while (curr - start < time) { curr = (...) } is tricky, but it won't work (just stops my browser and then throw all console.logs at once).

  • javascript location.hash refreshing in IE

    - by aepheus
I need to modify the hash, remove it after certain processing takes place so that if the user refreshes they do not cause the process to run again. This works fine in FF, but it seems that IE is reloading every time I try to change the hash. I think it is related to other things that are loading on the page, though I am not certain. I have an iframe that loads (related to the process) as well as some scripts that are still being fetched in the parent window. I can't seem to figure out a good way to change the hash after all the loading completes. And, at the same time am not even positive that it is related to the loading. Any ideas on how to solve this?
