  • Navigating from VB.NET code to C# code problem

    Hi, There seemes to be a consistent problem with the following situation: Say you have a VS2008 solution, consisting of a (say console) application written in vb.net, and a class library written in c#. The application references the class library project. This, of course, complies and works well. However, when you right-click (in the vb.net application code) a function prototype/object type defined in the class library, and select "Go to definition", the object browser opens providing you with the the list of methods available for the class the class library consists of. BAD. However, if you try to do the same when both the application and cl are in c#, this works just fine and you navigate driectly to the relevant function/class.GOOD. Known issue? Solvable?

  • What could cause xmlrpclib.ResponseError: ResponseError() ?

    Hi, I am experimenting with XML-RPC. I have the following server script (python): from SimpleXMLRPCServer import SimpleXMLRPCServer server = SimpleXMLRPCServer(('localhost', 9000)) def return_input(someinput): return someinput server.register_function(return_input) try: print 'ctrl-c to stop server' server.serve_forever() except KeyboardInterrupt: print 'stopping' and the following client script: import xmlrpclib server = xmlrpclib.ServerProxy('http://www.example.com/pathto/xmlrpcTester2.py') print server.return_input('some input') I have tested this locally and it works fine. All it does it spit out the input fron the client script, which is right.   • Loose Coupling and UX Patterns for Applications Integrations

    I love that software architecture phrase loose coupling. There’s even a whole book about it. And, if you’re involved in enterprise methodology you’ll know just know important loose coupling is to the smart development of applications integrations too. Whether you are integrating offerings from the Oracle partner ecosystem with Fusion apps or applications coexistence scenarios, loose coupling enables the development of scalable, reliable, flexible solutions, with no second-guessing of technology. Another great book Enterprise Integration Patterns: Designing, Building, and Deploying Messaging Solutions tells us about loose coupling benefits of reducing the assumptions that integration parties (components, applications, services, programs, users) make about each other when they exchange information. Eliminating assumptions applies to UI development too. The days of assuming it’s enough to hard code a UI with linking libraries called code on a desktop PC for an office worker are over. The book predates PaaS development and SaaS deployments, and was written when web services and APIs were emerging. Yet it calls out how using middleware as an assumptions-dissolving technology “glue" is central to applications integration. Realizing integration design through a set of middleware messaging patterns (messaging in the sense of asynchronously communicating data) that enable developers to meet the typical business requirements of enterprises requiring integrated functionality is very Fusion-like. User experience developers can benefit from the loose coupling approach too. User expectations and work styles change all the time, and development is now about integrating SaaS through PaaS. Cloud computing offers a virtual pivot where a single source of truth (customer or employee data, for example) can be experienced through different UIs (desktop, simplified, or mobile), each optimized for the context of the user’s world of work and task completion. Smart enterprise applications developers, partners, and customers use design patterns for user experience integration benefits too. The Oracle Applications UX design patterns (and supporting guidelines) enable loose coupling of the optimized UI requirements from code. Developers can get on with the job of creating integrations through web services, APIs and SOA without having to figure out design problems about how UIs should work. Adding the already user proven UX design patterns (and supporting guidelines to your toolkit means ADF and other developers can easily offer much more than just functionality and be super productive too. Great looking application integration touchpoints can be built with our design patterns and guidelines too for a seamless applications UX.   • Is it possible to use Boehm garbage collector only for the part of the program?

    I've read article in LinuxJournal about Boehm-Demers-Weiser garbage collector library. I'm interesting to use it in my library instead of my own reference counting implementation. I have only one question: is it possible to use gc only for my shared library and still use malloc/free in the main application? I'm not quite understand how gc checks the heap so I'm worrying about performance of gc in that case and possible side effects.

  • OpenNETCF.Net.Ftp Behaving Flaky

    I tried posting on their boards (authors of this library), however it literally takes months for them to reply when it comes to the free software (can't blame them). But anyways I have found that this library is behaving weirdly - for instance, a major problem with my application is when someone is trying to sign in (through FTP), they provide a correct login and mistype the password, no reply is received from FTP server. I tried doing the same from command window just to verify that it's not the FTP server's fault; and FTP commands were received instantaneously. It almost looks as though this library eats the commands. The same actions often times will yield different results. Can anyone recommend a stable, reliable library to use with Compact framework? Or shed some light on this issue...?

  • No pre-built ActionBar for Android pre-3.0?

    I note the release a few days ago of the static library bringing fragments to Android versions prior to 3.0, but does this library include the ActionBar? I suspect not. I assume that for an app that will work on pre-3.0 versions, that it needs a hand-built ActionBar implementation for versions up to 2.3 and then to use the OS default ActionBar in v3.0? for some reason I assumed the library had ActionBar in it, but as I dig further I'm not finding any evidence of its presence.

There is a bin folder,src folder,build.xml,build.num and 3 .txt files when I extracted this folder.   • Should I bundle C libraries with my Python application?

    If I have a Python package that depends on some C libraries (like say the Gnu Scientific Library (GSL) for numerical computations), is it a good idea to bundle the library with my code? I'd like to make my package as easy to install as possible for users and I don't want them to have to download C libraries by hand and supply include-paths. Also I could always ensure that the version of the library that I ship is compatible with my code. However, is it possible that there are clashes if the user has the library installed already, or ar there any other reasons why I shouldn't do this? I know that I can make it easier for users by just providing a binary distribution, but I'd like to avoid having to maintain binary distributions for all possible OSs. So, I'd like to stick to a source distribution, but for the user (who proudly owns a C compiler) installation should be as easy as python setup.py install.

  • Sending mail via sendmail from python

    If I want to send mail not via SMTP, but rather via sendmail, is there a library for python that encapsulates this process? Better yet, is there a good library that abstracts the whole 'sendmail -versus- smtp' choice? I'll be running this script on a bunch of unix hosts, only some of which are listening on localhost:25; a few of these are part of embedded systems and can't be set up to accept SMTP. As part of Good Practice, I'd really like to have the library take care of header injection vulnerabilities itself -- so just dumping a string to popen('/usr/bin/sendmail', 'w') is a little closer to the metal than I'd like. If the answer is 'go write a library,' so be it ;-)

  • Sharing code between two different git projects

    I have two different .Net projects, hosted on github. I would like to create a shared "commons" library for the two projects. How should I structure my repository to facilitate this sharing? Ideally, a change in this common library in one project could easily be pushed into the other project. I prefer to keep the code itself editable from the two projects (within Visual Studio), and not include it as a library. Are there best practices for this?
