  • Google Chrome doesn't respond user actions correctly

    Recently I've changed my OS to Ubuntu 12.04 (Cinnamon, 64 bits) from Mint 13 (KDE, 64 bits) and one same bug still appears on new installation. The Google Chrome it seems that don't refresh (repaint) page based on my interactions. Example: When i'm try comment an Youtube vídeo, when i click on textarea, o cursor don't appear inside of textarea, BUT, when/if i change to another tab and return the cursor appears...OK... If i start write some text...according i'm typing the chars don't appers...again if i change to another tab and return the typed text appears on textarea. Other cases that this bug appears: Modal boxes link...don't show the modal; Forms inside modal boxes don't show typed chars; The common Discus comment plugin don't work when focused; I don't have any idea of reason of this bug. (video driver, window manager, Chrome bug ?, i don't know) Any idea to solve this ?     I am trying to make an AJAX call from several domains to a single one which will handle the request. Enabling Cross domain in Firefox and Chrome was easy by setting the header on the handling server: header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *"); But this doesn't help enabling it in Internet Explorer. When I try: httpreq.send(''); it stops with error Access denied. How can this be enabled in Internet Explorer?

  • Difference between accessing a website using Local host and IP address

    I have developed an ASP.NET website and deployed into my IIS server. Now to see that my IIS is installed fine, I type local host in my address bar, and I get the welcome screen of IIS and its documentation in a separate window. Now I gave the url of my website http://localhost/mysites/site2/Default.aspx I access my site. Also giving my IP address instead of local host like: http://192.168.1.46/mysites/site2/Default.aspx also works. Just out of curiosity I wanted to see what happens when I give my IP address in addressbar. It asks me a user name and password saying:The server 192.168.1.46:80 requires a user name and password. I donot know what user name and password it is asking, and as of my knowledge I thought localhost points to my own IP address internally. But what is the difference and also what username and password do I need for it? Update: On chrome and IE just giving localhost displays the welcome screen, but on mozilla, localhost is also asking for a username and password.

  • No external src ip in log files (my router ip appears instead)

    I recently retired my workhorse WRT54G router/AP in favor of a Linksys EA2700. Since then, all inbound traffic (bound to an Ubuntu 10.02 box running LAMP)logged to Syslog, Apache's error and access logs, etc. (all behind said router) is getting logged with a src ip of 192.168.1.1, that of the router's internal ip. For example, here is an old entry from apache's access.log: 74.82.68.20 - - [22/Feb/2011:10:14:34 -0600] "GET /assets/css/style.css HTTP/1.1" 304 154 "http://example.com/view.php?event_id=1" "BlackBerry8520/5.0.0.822 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100" And here is one since switching the router: 192.168.1.1 - - [05/Oct/2012:21:29:25 -0500] "GET /somedir/print.css HTTP/1.1" 200 650 "http://example.com/somedir/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0.1"** That first field is the problem. Each and every entry in every log shows an "external" IP of 192.168.1.1, which isn't very helpful. Any ideas? Much thanks from a n00b!

  • R: ESS shell.exec speed

    I am using ESS in Windows XP. I have noticed that shell.exec is much slower with ESS than with RGui (the problem occurs when I try help(ls) for example, the help is displayed much faster in RGui, I tracked it down and it is due to shell.exec). Is there any reason for this? How can I fix it? My default browser is Firefox.

  • Is this asking too much of a browser?

    I'm embedding a large array in <script> tags in my HTML, like this (nothing surprising): <script> var largeArray = [/* lots of stuff in here */]; </script> In this particular example, the array has 210,000 elements. That's well below the theoretical maximum of 231 - by 4 orders of magnitude. Here's the fun part: if I save JS source for the array to a file, that file is 44 megabytes (46,573,399 bytes, to be exact). If you want to see for yourself, you can download it from my Dropbox. (All the data in there is canned, so much of it is repeated. This will not be the case in production.) Now, I'm really not concerned about serving that much data. My server gzips its responses, so it really doesn't take all that long to get the data over the wire. However, there is a really nasty tendency for the page, once loaded, to crash the browser. I'm not testing at all in IE (this is an internal tool). My primary targets are Chrome 8 and Firefox 3.6. In Firefox, I can see a reasonably useful error in the console: Error: script stack space quota is exhausted In Chrome, I simply get the sad-tab page: Cut to the chase, already Is this really too much data for our modern, "high-performance" browsers to handle? Is there anything I can do* to gracefully handle this much data? Incidentally, I was able to get this to work (read: not crash the tab) on-and-off in Chrome. I really thought that Chrome, at least, was made of tougher stuff, but apparently I was wrong... Edit 1 @Crayon: I wasn't looking to justify why I'd like to dump this much data into the browser at once. Short version: either I solve this one (admittedly not-that-easy) problem, or I have to solve a whole slew of other problems. I'm opting for the simpler approach for now. @various: right now, I'm not especially looking for ways to actually reduce the number of elements in the array.     I am drawing on a canvas with the following line: ctx.drawImage(compositeImage, 0, 0, image.width, image.height, i, j, scaledCompositeImageWidth, scaledCompositeImageHeight); This code has executed error free on Safari, Chrome, Firefox (and even IE using google's excanvas library). However, a recent update to Chrome now throws the following error: Uncaught Error: INDEX_SIZE_ERR: DOM Exception 1 This code often positions part or all of the drawn image OFF the canvas, anyone got any idea what's going on here?

  • CSS breaks in Explorer (insert humor here)

    This Wordpress site works fine in Firefox and Safari. However viewing in Explorer 7 (don't care about 6) breaks the header/navigation area. Weirdly enough, refreshing the page fixes the alignment issue, but then hides the header. http://anothersideof.me Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is it possible to prevent just horizontal scrolling when overflow-x is hidden?

    I have a web page that has content which extends past the right edge of the browser window. I set overflow-x: hidden on <body> to turn off the bottom scrollbar, but I can still scroll horizontally with the trackpad, which is not what I want. Is there any way to prevent the browser from scrolling horizontally? As a side note: Safari 4.0.4 only scrolls horizontally sometimes, and the scrolling feels "sticky" and "jumpy," whereas Firefox always smoothly scrolls horizontally.

    Is it possible to modify the DOM during or before the initial DOM parsing? Or do I have to wait until the DOM is parsed and built before interacting with it? More specifically, is it possible to hinder a script element in DOM from running using userscripts/content scripts or similar in chrome or firefox? Tried using eventListeners on DOMNodeInserted before the DOM is parsed, but these are only fired after the DOM is built.

  • How can I troubleshoot an APPCRASH in Internet Explorer?

    I'm writing an ActiveX control using the firebreath framework (hi taxilian!) and while it technically works, I'm running into a weird issue that appears to be unique to me. I've followed the instructions to create a simple plugin and then I ran it in Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 x64 (firebreath sets up a test page for the control). But as soon as I try to test it (clicking on a link that fires off JavaScript to interact with the control), IE crashes. Hard. "Internet Explorer has stopped working" style. If I try the control in Firefox (the resulting registered DLL can also be called as a Firefox plugin using a MIME type), it works fine. If I try it on my XP box, it works fine. I emailed the DLL and the testing page to a coworker in the next cube who is like me also running Windows 7 x64 and it works for him just fine as well, so it's not something unique to Windows 7 or x64. I did a sfc /scannow yesterday to see if anything on my system is corrupt and nothing came up as wrong. I tried various different security levels in IE, but nothing seems to have any effect. As this is a development machine there has been all matter of crap installed on it, so I figure it's bound to be something I've installed since October (when Win7 was released) but I cannot figure out what it is. I presume the information it's giving me when I attach to Visual Studio is useful somehow but I don't know how to interpret it. Admittedly I'm mainly a C#/.NET developer who's a bit out of his element with C/C++ and troubleshooting native code, but does anyone have any advice on how to proceed on figuring out why this very simple ActiveX control crashes IE on my machine and nowhere else?
