  • have to plug/un-plug usb devices on system booting?

    it's so weired that i have to plug/unplug in my usb devices every time booting ubuntu. it happens for both installing ubuntu and booting ubuntu (10.10 and 11.10) the scenario is like: 1.bios checking - 2.grub start - 3.keyboard & mouse led OFF (black screen with a cursor on top-left) - 4.i plug/unplug in any usb devices - 5.everything is back to normal and ubuntu started it's really frustrating :( please advise the solution.

  • Wubi installation: I get os freezes which make me have to hard reboot

    Wubi installation has been going a success for me, but one problem is that I get freezes, My Mouse works I can move it round but I can't click or right click. Sometimes my keyboard works and so I can shutdown safely using commands, but other times the keyboard doesn't work. One example of this is when I was running minecraft and youtube. and to off the laptop the only way was to hard reboot. Does anyone have a solution to this?

  • C++ OpenGL trouble trapping cursor in window

    I am using OpenGL and I try to trap my cursor inside my game window (using both SetCursorPos and ClipCursor) But, these conflict with my camera rotation code as my camera is rotated with my mouse. If there is a way to do it, please let me know. If possible, I would be willing to make it so that when the cursor reaches an edge of the screen, it jumps to the opposite edge (though I fear that would also conflict with my camera code).

    I am trying to use OpenDNS for my newly installed Ubuntu 12.10... However I cannot insert custom DNS addresses... I am accessing Network, then at my wireless connection, no matter how many times I press the "options" tab at the low right corner (I am not using english Ubuntu, so the button might have a different name), nothing happens. Any ideas why or how should I configure my OpenDNS connection?

  • Gnome 3: Moving the status(?) icons to the top

    I'm not sure of any of the terminology, so I'll have to explain things simply, to make sure you understand what I'm saying. I'm using Gnome 3, and when I bring the mouse to the bottom right of the screen, a bar pops up, with icons of some things that are running in the background (at the moment, mine has "Update Manager", "Removable Devices", "caffeine-cup"). Is there any way to move these items to the bar at the top of the screen, alongside the icons for volume, network connectivity and universal access (how do I get rid of that btw)? Thanks

  • Why suspend / hibernate does not work in Ubuntu 10.10? (blank screen problem)

    I've got a problem with Ubuntu 10.10 suspend / hibernation. When I try to do one of these actions, computer prepares but in the end a blank screen comes up with just a single underscore blinking. Computer becomes unresponsive to mouse/keyboard and only pressing power button on chasis restores it. Disks and coolers are working during the suspend / hibernation as if nothing happened. Can anyone give me some advice how to solve it? Thank you.

  • Cannot pass the login screen after upgrade to 12.04 from 11.10

    I just performed the upgrade from Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The updater downloaded all packages but a few ones that the system said were already installed. When asked for it, I chose to install the new maintainer's version of grub. Now after that my system start up to the login page, some images won't load. Moreover, after I try to login, the graphical instance does not load, it just sits there showing the mouse pointer and nothing else.

    Mac OSX - Snow leopard is host OS and Ubuntu-10.1 and windows xp are guest OS. I recently updated vittualbox to 4.1.10 Ubuntu did not boot immediately, it did an entire system scan and took about 2 hrs to boot. Now it boots regularly but it does not find wireless internet connection, even connecting cable does not help. However internet works great in window xp. I am totally lost, I would appreciate your help

    Hello everyone another new Linux user here.Most things are going well except for the 360 controller.There are so many posts about this it gets a little confusing on which to follow.Anyways someone told me that ubuntu 12.04 comes with a 360 wireless receiver and its just plug and play.When i plug my receiver in and run jstest-gtk 4 generic xbox pad come up in the joystick preferences window.now the controller itself isnt even on,and when it is on it doesnt sync.All four lights just flash.What am I doing incorrectly? Before it is asked yes this controller & receiver both work in Windows 7

  • Camera not working

    I made a camera in DX9. To move forward I press the Up arrow. To rotate on the Y axis I use the mouse. When I perform these movements on their own the camera moves at the speed I want. However, if I hold down Up and move the mouse at the same time then the camera moves a lot faster than it should. I want it to move at the same speed as it does when only the Up arrow is pressed. I think I need to normalize something somewhere but not sure what and not sure where. Have tried various combinations without success so if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks. I opened (by right mouse lick) and changed to 1024x768 = lines and nothing else(but ubuntu works! So how repair it back to normal? Thank's for all how will tell me how to! (Sorry about my English).

    I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works.   • Messenger Thinks My Ip is Invalid

    Hello. I am using Windows Live Messenger 2009 on Windows 7. I am using a 3G modem (ZTE Propietary USB Modem) I connect to the Internet using a software my ISP provided me. In last three days, my Messenger started to disconnect. Here is what I observed and tried to do: 1- I can browse web, can do FTP transfer etc. and obiviously have a valid IP. 2- I can sign in to Messenger (appear offline) but when I change my status to anything other then appear offline, Messenger says my connection to service has been lost. (However, it exists.) 3- When I run, MSN Connection Troubleshooter, it says my IP is invalid. When I click repair, it says repaired and just after that, I run the troubleshooter again, and it says my IP is invalid again. (However, it is valid and I am browsing the net.) 4- If I connect the Internet through eterhet or wireless there is no problem at all. 5- I re-installed Messenger (deleting all settings manually through registry and folders), re-installed all drivers and software related to USB 3G Modem. It doesn't work. And then, I took a full backup then formatted entire computer, installed a fresh windows 7, after 5 minutes, the same problem occured. What do you recommend? What can I do? Addition As seen on screenshot, it says Server IPv4 adress is 0.0.0.0 It seems like a problem, I don't know if it is. If it is, how can I solve it? Here is what I get, when I netstat.     Hello, I have installed Debian 5.04 Lenny on my new Intel D510MO motheboard. I fixed some issues with incorrect drive mapping (for some reason during installation my hdd was on sdb, after a restart it is under sda - fixed in grub), and now I am struggling with getting graphical enviroment up and running, I installed the graphical enviroment using the Debian installer. I am not an linux expert by any means, I assume that I need to edit the xorg.conf file. Any hints appreciated!   • Difficulty restoring a differential backup in SQL Server, 2 media families are expected or no files

    I have sql backups copied from server A to server B on a nightly basis. We want to move the sql server from server A to server B without much downtime, but the files are very large. I assumed that performing a differential backup and restore would solve the problem with the databases. Copy full backup from server A to copy to server B (10+gb) Open SQL Server Managment Studio on server B Right mouse on databases Restore Database Type in the new DB-name Choose "From Device" and browse to the backup file Click Okay. This is now resorting the original "full" backup. Test new db with dev application - everything works :) On original database rightmouse on DB Tasks Backup... Backup Type = Differential, Backup to disk, add a new file, and remove the old one (it needs to be a small file to transfer for the smallest amount of outage) Copy the diff backup onto the new db Right mouse on DB Tasks Restore Database This is where I get stuck. If I add both the new differential file, and the original backup to the restore process I get an error The media loaded on "M:\path\to\backup\full.bak" is formatted to support 1 media families, but 2 media families are expected according to the backup device specification. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. But if I try to restore using just the differential file I get System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The log or differential backup cannot be restored because no files are ready to rollforward. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Any idea how to do it? Is there a better way of restoring backups with limited downtime?

  • Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash while opening Bamboo Preferences, often after resuming computer from sleep

    One of the ExpressKeys on my Wacom Bamboo Capture graphics tablet is mapped to Bamboo Preferences, so that I can quickly access the tablet settings and view the battery level (I have the Wireless Accessory Kit installed). However, when I connect the tablet to the computer, in wired or wireless mode, and attempt to open Bamboo Preferences, the Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash, most often when I try to do so after resuming the computer from sleep. There is usually no direct indication of the crash (although I once did get Tablet Service for consumer driver stopped working and was closed), only that the cursor shows that the system is busy for a split second. When this happens, the pen no longer tracks on the screen when in proximity of the tablet (even though it is detected by the tablet itself); however, touch continues to function correctly. To recover from this condition, I need to restart the tablet driver services. I got tired of having to go through Task Manager to restart the service every time this happens, so I ended up writing the following command script, with a shortcut on the desktop for running it with elevated privileges: net stop TabletServicePen net start TabletServicePen net stop TouchServicePen net start TouchServicePen Is there something I can do to prevent these crashes from happening in the first place, or do I have have to deal with this issue until the driver is updated? Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Tablet drivers are up to date.     I'm looking for a NAS Adapter that supports attaching multiple USB devices to the network. Here's what I'd like to see in a NAS adapter: Under $100.00. Support for multiple devices. This can be through a USB hub or through multiple USB connectors on the device itself. Bittorrent support would be nice, but this isn't a deal-breaker. Filesystem support for at least NTFS or FAT32. I'd prefer to not have to reformat to use the device, but this is also not a deal-breaker. Here is what I am NOT looking for: I'm NOT looking for a NAS enclosure. I already have a couple of spare external USB drives that I'd like to use. I'm NOT looking for a networked USB hub like the one mentioned here. Network USB hubs only allow access to a drive from one PC at a time. I'm NOT looking for a wireless router with a NAS built in. I already have a wireless router, and I'd rather not go through the hassle of replacing it if possible. What I've looked at so far PogoPlug: This supports multiple devices via a USB hub, but there's not Bittorrent support. It's $99.00, so I may end up going with this and hope that they patch in Bittorrent support later. Addonics NAS Adapter: This supports only one device per adapter, so it's a non-starter. SimpleNET NAS Head USB 2.0 Portable Dongle: I'm not 100% sure this supports multiple devices. Plus there doesn't seem to be any Bittorrent support. I'll try to update this post as I explore other devices.

    I recently tried out a cheaper KVM solution, a dual monitor one with a USB hub and audio/mic support. It seemed the perfect KVM. However, these are my experiences. When using my keyboard via the PS/2 connection, none of my multimedia keys work (useful, because it has a volume control and my speakers do not, only on a wireless remote control.) I plugged the keyboard in via the USB port - and it seemed to work. However, I believe to switch the hub from PC to Mac, you need to use a keyboard combo, which is only supported when the keyboard is plugged in via PS/2 Sometimes the middle mouse button doesn't work when connected via PS/2. The multi monitor is VGA - I just found out by the looks of things my Mac Mini outputs DVI Digital only (though this is my fault!). Mac works with 2 screens, but switching and switching back can cause it not to display on the 2nd screen unless I go detect displays again. My question is - is there a KVM out there that supports these features? USB keyboard and mouse inputs will full multimedia keys support Dual monitor DVI connections Hotkey to change PCs and physical button USB hub Emulate screens attached when switching to a different computer Works with PC and Mac Audio / Microphone support Does one exist, that won't cost the world? So far the only one that seems to support all this (that I can tell) is this one. UPDATE I ended up buying the Aten CS1642. It's expensive, but it seems to work great!

    I'm trying to configure an OpenVPN bridge LAN-to-LAN setup. Currently, I have the OpenVPN bridge Server/Client setup up running. On the server-side my br-lan interface has tap0, eth0, and wlan0 in the bridge group. On the client-side the br-lan interface has eth0 and wlan0 in the bridge group, the client tap0 is outside of the br-lan group. Currently the two bridge groups are connected via the wlanO interfaces (server-side is the Access Point - AP and the client-side is the wireless client). My goal is to connect the two bridge groups with a wireless VPN pipe. My network configuration: Server: br-lan: 10.4.96.50 Client: br-lan: 10.4.96.75 tap0: 10.4.96.100 <---- issued by the VPN server. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with using a bridge instead of a routed OpenVPN setup. My question is how (if possible) do I add the client tap0 interface to the client bridge group, as to ensure all traffic between the server/client bridge groups is using the VPN pipe?
