  • Question about Client IDs

    I have a user control that is emmitting javascript using the ClientId function. For example: Out &= "ValidatorHookupControlID(" & Quote & ddlMonth.ClientID & Quote & "), document.all(" & Quote & CustomValidator1.ClientID & Quote & "));" & vbCrLf It appears to me that the ClientID function DOES not return the ultimate ID that is sent to the browser. Instead, the ClientID function only appears to be aware of its current parent control, which in this case is a the User Control and so the ID that is returned is the ID "dtmPassportExpirationDate_ddlMonth" When in fact the usercontrol is included in a master page and the ultimate ID that is used is: "ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_ddlMonth" I may be nuts, but that's what it appears to be doing. I expect that the ClientID function would return the ultimate ID used in the HTML. Am I missing something?

  • Client-side or server-side processing?

    So, I'm new to dynamic web design (my sites have been mostly static with some PHP), and I'm trying to learn the latest technologies in web development (which seems to be AJAX), and I was wondering, if you're transferring a lot of data, is it better to construct the page on the server and "push" it to the user, or is it better to "pull" the data needed and create the HTML around it on the clientside using JavaScript? More specifically, I'm using CodeIgniter as my PHP framework, and jQuery for JavaScript, and if I wanted to display a table of data to the user (dynamically), would it be better to format the HTML using CodeIgniter (create the tables, add CSS classes to elements, etc..), or would it be better to just serve the raw data using JSON and then build it into a table with jQuery? My intuition says to do it clientside, as it would save bandwidth and the page would probably load quicker with the new JavaScript optimizations all these browsers have now, however, then the site would break for someone not using JavaScript...   • Filter large amounts of data from a HTML table w/ jQuery

    I work for a transit agency and I have large amounts of data (mostly times), and I need a way to filter the data using two textboxes (To and From). I found jQuery quick search, but it seems to only work with one textbox. If anyone has any ideas via jQuery or some other client side library, that would be fantastic.   • DRb connecting to linux client from windows

    I have a few DRb services running on different windows machines and they can all connect and talk with each other just fine. When I put these DRb services on Linux machines and try to connect from windows nothing happens and I get a DRB:ConnError ... the service on Linux is never touched. So I did a netstat on the linux box and the service(port) were not listed anywhere even though the program is clearly running. Is there someting that I'm missing when talking to DRb services on Linux from a windows machine?

    I am trying to figure out where the ocean is in an arbitrary Google Maps view. I actually have the lat lon (a range of points, when joined together form the coastline) of the coastline. But how do I tell which side of this line is the coastline? One possible solution would be to find the latlon of the nearest service or town or business or something, and then the ocean is obviously on the other side (given a small enough enclosing polygon). Is there a better way?

It appears that within NHibernate if I do something like this: IList<Customer> customers = Session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Customer)) .Add(Restrictions.Eq("Name", "Steve") .List<Customer>(); And I want to then delete that list of customers. From what I can tell the only way to do it is like this: foreach(var customer in customers) { Session.Delete(customer); } But what I'm wondering is if there's any way I can just go: Session.Delete(customers); And delete the entire collection with a single call?
