  • Hooking up my power switch/reset switch/LEDs

    - by David Oneill
I'm working on building a computer (first time for me). There are several plugs that I need to connect to the motherboard (Power LED, reset switch, etc). Of the two wires, they are either: Color and white (reset switch, power LED, HDD LED) red and black (speaker, power switch) The manual for the motherboard has a nice diagram of where to plug them in, but has them labeled + or -. Which colors are positive, and which are negative?

  • black backgrounds appear grey on gnome-terminal

    - by Martin DeMello
Running gnome under Ubuntu Lucid $ env | grep TERM TERM=xterm COLORTERM=gnome-terminal I had to edit both my .muttrc and my vim colorscheme to change the background color from black to none in order to get a proper black background (or, more accurately, to retain the terminal's default black background). Setting it to black resulted in a dark grey background. This only happens with gnome-terminal; konsole, xterm and rxvt are fine.

  • How to get same cookie to control two different folders on same site.

    - by Incandescent
    I am using the below cookie javascript to run a background color changer on my site. I want to also use it for the background color of my forum which is in a separate folder (http://lightbulbchoice.com/forum). I currently have it working on both the site and forum but you have to set each separately, i.e., each is setting it's own cookie. How do I get the forum to locate the main site cookie and not set it's own? // Cookie Functions - Second Helping (21-Jan-96) // Written by: Bill Dortch, hIdaho Design // The following functions were released to the public domain by him. function getCookieVal (offset) { var endstr = document.cookie.indexOf (";", offset); if (endstr == -1) endstr = document.cookie.length; return unescape(document.cookie.substring(offset, endstr)); } function GetCookie (name) { var arg = name + "="; var alen = arg.length; var clen = document.cookie.length; var i = 0; while (i < clen) { var j = i + alen; if (document.cookie.substring(i, j) == arg) return getCookieVal (j); i = document.cookie.indexOf(" ", i) + 1; if (i == 0) break; } return null; } function SetCookie (name, value) { var argv = SetCookie.arguments; var argc = SetCookie.arguments.length; var expires = (argc > 2) ? argv[2] : null; var path = (argc > 3) ? argv[3] : null; var domain = (argc > 4) ? argv[4] : null; var secure = (argc > 5) ? argv[5] : false; document.cookie = name + "=" + escape (value) + ((expires == null) ? "" : ("; expires=" + expires.toGMTString())) + ((path == null) ? "" : ("; path=" + path)) + ((domain == null) ? "" : ("; domain=" + domain)) + ((secure == true) ? "; secure" : ""); } // --> </script>

  • Buying a new printer instead of replacing ink?

    - by Kelsey
With prices of basic printers being around $40 - $50 and a ink cartridge being around $20 - $30 each for black AND color. It costs me more to replace the printer's ink than to just buy a brand new printer. This just seems like a total waste of materials though (I have 4 printers sitting in my basement with no ink). I know the ink cartridges are smaller (not as full) in a new printer but I go through it in about 1 to 1.5 years only and by then my $40 gets me a better printer to boot. Also with certain printers the heads are not part of the ink (Epson use to do this and still might) so I get new heads as well. Is this a bad practice? Are retailers making this a reality when they are selling working hardware cheaper than replacement parts? Is there something more I should be considering? Edit: Some background, long ago I bought an Epson printer which I used to print docs etc vary rarely. The ink started running low so I bought to new carts for around $60 if I recall. The printer then stopped working so I replaced the carts with the new ones but the head was dead on the black which was not worth repairing. I bought a new HP printer for $49. This lasted around 1.5yrs and then the ink ran out, I went to buy new carts and the guy at the store got me to buy a new printer (that was smaller, faster, higher dpi, etc) and it was cheaper than replacing the ink. When the ink ran out on that one I bought a new printer again, etc. The printer gets used maybe once a week at most and I never print photos or anything. It normally is jsut stored away unplugged accumulating dust. People say to buy a laser printer but they are much larger, do not print color, (in the price range I am looking at) and might have the exact same issues. The problem I see is the manufacturer is making my behaviour possible by selling new printers at a loss hoping that they will cash in on the ink later. How can they produce a printer for so cheap which HAS ink in it, and the refills cost more than the unit? It can't.

  • Missing Profiles in Ubuntu User

    - by Coyote
I've got a zen slice running Ubuntu. I set the thing up as root and had "normal" bash and vim profiles, however the new users I've created for myself and others have no profiles. I've tried copying the profiles from root to my user's home directories, but still don't have color or even machine name\login at the prompt. How do I get the options transferred?

  • Bolding/underlining/strikethrough-ing text in mutt

    - by Steve K
Is there any way to bold, strike, or underline text in mutt? For instance, I currently have a couple of lines in my muttrc to make URLs and email addresses blue text on white background: color body blue white regex but I'd rather have that be blueunderline on white background. Likewise, I'd like to be able to bold unread mails in the index. (dunno if it's relevant, but I'm using Ubuntu's mutt-patched, which is compiled with ncurses.)

  • How do I use a theme for my lockscreen?

    - by ton.yeung
I have the "autumn colors in japan" theme and would like the lockscreen to use the same backgrounds. Specifically - what I want to do is make my lock screen use the same background as the theme I chose through Control Panel - Appearance and Personalization - Personalization. Currently it's set to Autumn Color in Japan. Do I have to locate the images and set them manually or is there a way to get the lockscreen to use the background I have for the desktop, set by my theme?

  • How do I remove the black statusbar on Vimperator for Firefox?

    - by Martín Fixman
I recently installed Vimperator and found it awesome, however not really fitting for my everyday tasks. So instead of disabling and enabling it each time, I decided to keep it enabled and show the Firefox toolbar. My only problem is that the black (or other colors depending on the security of the site) bar at the bottom breaks the persona induced eye-candy. Is there any way to permanently change the color of the bar, or hide it while I'm using Vimperator?

  • Organize Finder Sidebar

    - by Louis W
Is there any kind of application (I don't mind paying) which offers more advanced editing/organization of the Finder sidebar, more specifically the "Places" section. I would really like to be able to group things into sub groups and/or color them. Any help making this more useful would be great. Thanks.

  • Alternative Windows shell?

    - by user17943
I can't stand the Windows "shell". I can't copy text off a command prompt window, the .bat syntax is retarded, I can't stand how the command buffer works, it doesn't support ANSI color codes, I could go on and on. Are there any alternatives to the Windows command prompt (please, do not answer "Linux".)

  • Simple, free Mac OS X paint program with transparency

    - by Margret
What FREE software (included with Mac OS X, or public domain) would be a good, simple way to take some existing PNG clipart files and do some simple editing? I really only need to do 3 things: Rotate the image. Clip the image. Set a "transparent" color. I don't need anything that takes weeks to learn or is super-powerful or super expensive.

  • Change the output format of zsh's time

    - by YGA
Hi Folks, I've just switched to zsh. However, I really don't like how the time builtin command also outputs the command that it's timing. I much prefer the bash style output. Anyone know how to switch it over? Zsh: [casqa1:~/temp]$ time grep foo /dev/null /usr/local/gnu/bin/grep --color -i foo /dev/null 0.00s user 0.00s system 53% cpu 0.004 total Bash: [casqa1:~/temp]$ bash casqa1.nyc:~/temp> time grep foo /dev/null real 0.0 user 0.0 sys 0.0 Thanks, /YGA

This site for example: http://www.cultbox.co.uk/reviews/episodes/778-twenty-twelve-episode-3-review Which has this CSS - http://www.cultbox.co.uk/style.css body { text-align: center; font-size: 1em; font-family: Helvetica Neue,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background: #D3D8E1; } I think I first saw this problem on Tech Republic. Also is it possible to find out which Font the browser chose to render in?

  • Fuchsia and Transparency

    - by waiwai933
[Fuchsia] is also commonly used to indicate transparency. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuchsia_(color) Does anyone know what this quote means? Why would fuchsia be used to indicate transparency as opposed to a checkered background?

  • Do you use different wallpaper or background colors for dev, production servers?

    - by crosenblum
I want to make it easier to distinguish between server's connected via rdp, without draining resources too much. Do any of you use any wallpaper, and if so, can you show any examples? Or do you use a custom desktop background color? Or do you use something like bginfo? Are there any good wallpaper sites, specifically for server wallpaper? To help distinguish what server you are on... Thanks..

I'm using Firefox to read sites that contain a lot of black text on white background (much like this one). What is the simplest way to give Firefox the option to switch the font and background color of a site so that it ends up as white text on a black background?
