• Why is the Amazon and Ubuntu One Music webapp part of common? Can it be removed without removing all others?

  I've just noticed that those two, which I have completely no use of, are part of the common package. This means I cannot remove them without removing everything. But I like all the other webapps, GMail, Docs and so on. I just don't want Amazon popping up in my launcher when I go there once a blue moon and not leaving until I turn Firefox off. Is there any way I can remove it without removing the rest?

  Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. • Usage of putty in command line from Hudson

  Hi, I'm trying to use putty in command line from an hudson job. The command is the following one: putty -ssh -2 -P 22 USERNAME@SERVER_ADDR -pw PASS -m command.txt Where 'command.txt' is a shell script to execute in the server through SSH. If i launch this command from the Window command prompt, it works, the shell script is executed on the server machine. If i launch a build of the hudson job configured with this batch command, it doesn't work. The build is running... and running... and running.. without doing anything, and i have to stop it manually. So my question is: Is it possible to launch an external programm (i.e. putty) from an hudson job ? ps: i tried SSH plugin but... not a really good plugin (pre/post build, fail status of the commands launched not caught by hudson, etc.) Thanks in advance for your help. • How can I auto-connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network?

  I would like my computer to automatically connect to a WPA2-Enterprise network as soon as it boots whenever the network is available, without any action needed by me. The computer already offers to connect, and even remembers the password, but I must still hit 'Enter' to connect. Also, connection does not occur if my login is at the terminal. I would like to automatically connect every time I login, no matter how I do so, unless a more preferred network is available. What is the best way to do this? I am running Fedora 19. A shell script that can be invoked at the terminal would be preferred. Connecting even if the Gnome-desktop has not launched is a must.

• Prioritize One Network Share Over Another And/Or Cap Network Share Traffic? (Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise)

  One of my fileservers is a hyper v VM running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The NIC in the VM maps to a 1 GB NIC on the host that is dedicated just to this VM. I have two shares on the file server. One is very important and used by a few users. The other is less important but used by many users. The issue I'm having: When a ton of users are accessing the unimportant share, it can choke out requests to the important share. What I'd like to do: I'd like to some prioritize requests for for file on the more important share, or even dedicate a portion of the NIC's bandwidth just to requests for files on that share. Is there any way to do that? Alternately, can I add another NIC and specify that all traffic to one share goes over one NIC and traffic to the other share goes over the other?

• Is it possible create a 4TB bootable partition in the x86 edition of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise?

  I'd like to find out if there is any way to accomplish this, since it would benifit my storage server greatly. I am using a Promise FastTrak 8660 and five Seagate ST31000340NS 1TB drives in a RAID 5 array. I figure that if the x86 ENTERPRISE edition of Server 2003 can handle 64GB of RAM, it should have no problem supporting larger HDD volumes as well. I've read (somewhere...) that the Windows Server operating systems are not limited to the standard 2TB like Windows XP and 2000 are. I'm hoping it's something that just needs to be turned on, similar to the way PAE works for the 4GB RAM limit in x86 servers.

• How do I install automake and autoconf on RedHat Enterprise 5?

  I am attempting to install "uploadprogress" for a PHP application, and have failed on dependencies. Firstly, on phpize, then php-devel, then on autoconf and automake. I have tried yum, and various repositories, with no luck. I think it's to do with the ultra-tight but annoying set up they have on Rackspace Cloud servers. Does anyone know where I can find a repository that I can tell yum to look at that will contain php-devel, autoconf, automake, etc? Thanks ever so much. • How to make the jump from consumer support to enterprise support?

  I am currently a high level consumer break/fix technician responsible for about 300-400 repairs a month. I am good at my job, but bored, and I want to move into the enterprise side of my company, dealing with Server 2008 R2 and exchange and switches and routers that cost more than I make in a month. How do I make this transition? Whats the best thing to learn first? Is there a standard trajectory for making this leap from consumer to business? I am full time employed, so going back to school is not a great option, but I have no life, so spending my nights and weekends reading and practicing is totally within my realm. I am basically overwhelmed by the number of things to learn, and looking for any advice you may have on the best way to proceed. PS - I apologize if this is a not quite the right forum for this, I know its not a technical question exactly, but I also know the sorts of people I want to answer this question are reading this website.

• How do I install yum on Redhat Enterprise 4?

  For historical reasons, one of the machines that I manage has a Redhat Enterprise 4 boot disk (among others). Every now and then, we have to boot into RHEL4 to bring up some of the legacy software that we support and connect to. Since it's a fringe system, the Redhat support has long since lapsed and I can't convince myself that it would be worth paying just to get RPMs that I can go and get for myself. That said, the default RHEL tools are heavily biased against letting you do exactly that. I would like to install yum and use that as my package discovery and installation. So, is there an installation guide to integrating yum with an older RHEL 4 system?

• Localization with ASP.NET MVC ModelMetadata

  When using the DisplayFor/EditorFor there has been built-in support in ASP.NET MVC to show localized validation messages, but no support to show the associate label in localized text, unless you are using the .NET 4.0 with Mvc Future. Lets a say you are creating a create form for Product where you have support both English and German like the following. English German I have recently added few helpers for localization in the MvcExtensions, lets see how we can use it to localize the form. As mentioned in the past that I am not a big fan when it comes to decorate class with attributes which is the recommended way in ASP.NET MVC. Instead, we will use the fluent configuration (Similar to FluentNHibernate or EF CodeFirst) of MvcExtensions to configure our View Models. • To sample or not to sample...

  Ideally, we would know the exact answer to every question. How many people support presidential candidate A vs. B? How many people suffer from H1N1 in a given state? Does this batch of manufactured widgets have any defective parts? Knowing exact answers is expensive in terms of time and money and, in most cases, is impractical if not impossible. Consider asking every person in a region for their candidate preference, testing every person with flu symptoms for H1N1 (assuming every person reported when they had flu symptoms), or destructively testing widgets to determine if they are "good" (leaving no product to sell). Knowing exact answers, fortunately, isn't necessary or even useful in many situations. Understanding the direction of a trend or statistically significant results may be sufficient to answer the underlying question: who is likely to win the election, have we likely reached a critical threshold for flu, or is this batch of widgets good enough to ship? Statistics help us to answer these questions with a certain degree of confidence. This focuses on how we collect data. In data mining, we focus on the use of data, that is data that has already been collected. In some cases, we may have all the data (all purchases made by all customers), in others the data may have been collected using sampling (voters, their demographics and candidate choice). Building data mining models on all of your data can be expensive in terms of time and hardware resources. Consider a company with 40 million customers. Do we need to mine all 40 million customers to get useful data mining models? The quality of models built on all data may be no better than models built on a relatively small sample. Determining how much is a reasonable amount of data involves experimentation. When starting the model building process on large datasets, it is often more efficient to begin with a small sample, perhaps 1000 - 10,000 cases (records) depending on the algorithm, source data, and hardware. This allows you to see quickly what issues might arise with choice of algorithm, algorithm settings, data quality, and need for further data preparation. Instead of waiting for a model on a large dataset to build only to find that the results don't meet expectations, once you are satisfied with the results on the initial sample, you can  take a larger sample to see if model quality improves, and to get a sense of how the algorithm scales to the particular dataset. If model accuracy or quality continues to improve, consider increasing the sample size. Sampling in data mining is also used to produce a held-aside or test dataset for assessing classification and regression model accuracy. Here, we reserve some of the build data (data that includes known target values) to be used for an honest estimate of model error using data the model has not seen before. This sampling transformation is often called a split because the build data is split into two randomly selected sets, often with 60% of the records being used for model building and 40% for testing. Sampling must be performed with care, as it can adversely affect model quality and usability. Even a truly random sample doesn't guarantee that all values are represented in a given attribute. This is particularly troublesome when the attribute with omitted values is the target. A predictive model that has not seen any examples for a particular target value can never predict that target value! For other attributes, values may consist of a single value (a constant attribute) or all unique values (an identifier attribute), each of which may be excluded during mining. Values from categorical predictor attributes that didn't appear in the training data are not used when testing or scoring datasets. In subsequent posts, we'll talk about three sampling techniques using Oracle Database: simple random sampling without replacement, stratified sampling, and simple random sampling with replacement.

Filter first: PowerView is your best friend Powerview is an often ignored feature of My Oracle Support that enables you to control the information displayed on the Dashboard, the Knowledge tab and regions, and the Service Request tab based on one or more parameters. You can define a PowerView to limit information based on product, product line, support ID, platform, hostname, system name and others. Using PowerView allows you to restrict: Your search results to the filters you have set The product list when selecting your products in Search & Browse and when creating service requests   The PowerView menu is at the top of My Oracle Support, near the title You turn PowerView on by clicking PowerView is Off, which is a button. When PowerView is On, and filters are active, clicking the button again will toggle Powerview off. Click the arrow to the right to create new filters, edit filters, remove a filter, or choose from the list of previously created filters. You can create a PowerView in 3 simple steps! Turn PowerView on and select New from the PowerView menu. Select your filter from the Select Filter Type dropdown list and make selections from the other two menus. Hint: While there are many filter options, selecting your product line or your list of products will provide you with an effective filter. Click the plus sign (+) to add more filters. Click the minus sign (-) to remove a filter. Click Create to save and activated the filter(s) You’ll notice that PowerView is On displays along with the active filters. Browse & Refine: Access the Best Match Fast For Your Product and Task In the Knowledge Browse region of the Knowledge or Dashboard tabs, pick your product, pick your task, select a version, if applicable. A best match document – a collection of knowledge articles and resources specific to your selections - may display, offering you a one-stop shop. The best match document, called an “information center,” is an aggregate of dynamically updated links to information pertinent to the product, task, and version (if applicable) you chose. These documents are refreshed every 24 hours to ensure that you have the most current information at your fingertips. Note: Not all products have “information centers.” If no information center appears as a best match, click Search to see a list of search results. From the information center, you can access topics from a product overview to security information, as shown in the left menu. Just want to search? That’s easy too! Again, pick your product, pick your task, select a version, if applicable, enter a keyword term, and click Search. Hint: In this example, you’ll notice that PowerView is on and set to PeopleSoft Enterprise. When PowerView is on and you select a product from the Knowledge Base product list, the listed products are limited to the active PowerView filter.
