JSR 310, Date and Time API, has moved to JCP 2.9 (first JCP 2.9 JSR!) JSR 236, Concurrency Utilities for Java EE, has published an Early Draft Review. This review ends 15 December 2012. How to handle the different frame rate on different devices?

I am not quite sure how frame per second works on a web page. I have a Canvas game that involves in moving an image from point A to B, and measuring the time elapsed. The code can be as simple as: var timeStamp = Date.now(); function update(){ obj.y += obj.speed; text = "Time: "+ (Date.now() - timeStamp) + "ms"; } The function update() is called every frame. The problem is that the time elapsed is different from device to device. It is pretty short on my PC, but get longer on my iPad, and is much longer on my cell phone. I thought it is because the FPS is smaller on mobile devices, so instead of calling update() every frame, I call it every 1ms by using a setInterval. But this does not solve the problem. In my understanding, the function for setInterval is invoked based on the increment in system time, other than frame rate, so it should fix the problem. Am I missing anything here? If the setInterval function is called based on FPS, is there any way to get around with the FPS difference across devices? On a side note, I have sort of a "water simulator" on the same canvas. It involves in redrawing about 60 objects which can be 600x600 pixels for every frame, so it could be a frame rate killer. I am using Phaser.js but not really using much of its functionalities, if that helps.

Where to find common database abbreviations in Spanish

I'm doing a little pro bono work for an organization in Central America. I'm ok at Spanish and my contacts are perfectly fluent but are not techincal people. Even if they don't care what I call some fields in a database I still want to make as clean a schema as possible, and I'd like to know what some typical abbreviations are for field / variable names in Spanish. I understand abbreviations and naming conventions are entirely personal. I'm not asking for the "correct" or "best" way to abbreviate database object names. I'm just looking for references to lists of typical abbreviations that would be easily recognizable to a techincally competent native Spanish speaker. I believe I am a decent googler but I've had no luck on this one. For example, in my company (where English is the primary language) 'Date' is always shortened to 'DT', 'Code' to 'CD', 'Item' to 'IT', etc. It's easy for the crowds of IT temp workers who revolve through on various projects to figure out that 'DT' stands for 'Date', 'YR' for 'Year', or 'TN' for 'Transaction' without even having to consult the official abbreviations list.

Working with Git on multiple machines

This may sound a bit strange, but I'm wondering about a good way to work in Git from multiple machines networked together in some way. It looks to me like I have two options, and I can see benefits on both sides: Use git itself for sharing, each machine has its own repo and you have to fetch between them. You can work on either machine even if the other is offline. This by itself is pretty big I think. Use one repo that is shared over the network between machines. No need to do git pulls every time you switch machines, since your code is always up to date. Never worry that you forgot to push code from your other non-hosting machine, which is now out of reach, since you were working off a fileshare on this machine. My intuition says that everyone generally goes with the first option. But the downside I see is that you might not always be able to access code from your other machines, and I certainly don't want to push all my WIP branches to github at the end of every day. I also don't want to have to leave my computers on all the time so I can fetch from them directly. Lastly a minor point is that all the git commands to keep multiple branches up to date can get tedious. Is there a third handle on this situation? Maybe some third party tools are available that help make this process easier? If you deal with this situation regularly, what do you suggest?

Win8 x64 Laptop (Samsung) unable to boot after installing Ubuntu

I posted here a while back and no one was able to help me so I am going to try to explain my problem better. I have a Samsung series 7 Ultrabook and I connected a USB optical drive with an Ubuntu 14.04 installation disc. I did not set or change any of my partitions, however, as I mainly wanted to just be able to boot from the disc and fool around with Ubuntu. Upon restarting my computer I get a blue-screen message saying: Recovery Your PC needs to be repiared The Boot configuration date file is missing some required information. File: \BCD Error Code: 0xc000000d You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installing media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. However I am never given the option to even try to boot to anything. When I turn my computer on the optical drive spins and then after a moment or two comes to a halt. I turned off safeboot and switched it to CSM (I believe that is what it is called) mode, and that makes it so when I turn my computer on it takes me to a Windows Recovery screen. I am able to change the date I want to recover and view all the applications installed, however upon recovering Windows says "All boot options are tried. Press key to recover with factory image using Recovery or any other keys for next boot loop iteration." It seems to be stuck in a loop. Can someone please help me?! I'm so confused and nothing is working!

Rowspan not using top row

I don't understand why my column won't span to the top and bottom rows I created. It is supposed to look like the "Today" column is taller on the top and bottom then the other columns. I tried accomplishing this by adding rows above and below it and then using rowspan. For some reason, it only works on the bottom row. It's a lot of code, and I wasn't sure what I should cut without deforming it all or adding a new variable (it needs a fluid height). Android save Checkbox State in ListView with Cursor Adapter

I cant find a way to save the checkbox state when using a Cursor adapter. Everything else works fine but if i click on a checkbox it is repeated when it is recycled. Ive seen examples using array adapters but because of my lack of experience im finding it hard to translate it into using a cursor adapter. Could someone give me an example of how to go about it. SQL Select syntax error

hi guys thanks for your help yesterday. I am now trying to incorporate the query from yesterday into an existing query so I can show the highest itemcode's reporting group in the existing query..but I have a syntax error somewhere at my Select statement. ERROR: Keyword SELECT not expected. I have tried putting brackets at every possible place but still no go..can you please help? (ps-this whole query has been giving me nightmares!) All, I am having trouble requesting info from HTTPS site using CURL and PHP. I am using Solaris 10. It so happens that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I am not sure what is the cause. NHibernate IUserType convert nullable DateTime to DB not-null value

I have legacy DB that store dates that means no-date as 9999-21-31, The column Till_Date is of type DateTime not-null="true". in the application i want to build persisted class that represent no-date as null, So i used nullable DateTime in C# //public DateTime? TillDate {get; set; } I created IUserType that knows to convert the entity null value to DB 9999-12-31 but it seems that NHibernate doesn't call SafeNullGet, SafeNullSet on my IUserType when the entity value is null, and report a null is used for not-null column. I tried to by-pass it by mapping the column as not-null="false" (changed only the mapping file, not the DB) but it still didn't help, only now it tries to insert the null value to the DB and get ADOException. Any knowledge if NHibernate doesn't support IUseType that convert null to not-null values? CakePHP: Action runs twice, for no good reason.

Greetings everyone! I have a strange problem with my cake (cake_1.2.0.7296-rc2). My start()-action runs twice, under certain circumstances, even though only one request is made. The triggers seem to be : - loading an object like: $this-Questionnaire-read(null, $questionnaire_id); - accessing $this-data If I disable the call to loadAvertisement() from the start()-action, this does not happen. If I disable the two calls inside loadAdvertisement(): $questionnaire = $this-Questionnaire-read(null, $questionnaire_id); $question = $this-Questionnaire-Question-read(null, $question_id); ... then it doesn't happen either. Why? Need help displaying a dynamic table

I am designing a job rota planner for a company and need help displaying a dynamic table containing the staff details. I have the following tables in MySQL database: Staff, Event, and Job. The staff table holds staff details (staffed, name, address...etc), the Event table (eventide, eventName, Fromdate, Todate...etc) and the Job table holds (Jobid, Jobdate, Eventid(fk), Staffid (fk)). I need to dynamically display the available staff list from the staff table when the user selects the EVENT and the DATE (3 drop downs: date, month, and year) from a PHP form. I need to display staff members that have not been assigned work on the selected date by checking the Jobdate in the Job table. I have been at this for all day and can't get around it. I am still learning PHP and would surely appreciate any help I can get. Trouble with datasource not being called from viewWillAppear

A little background. I have taken GCCalendar which only works in portrait orientation and extended it to work in landscape similar to how the iPhone's Calendar app works. I did this by duplicating the main view class and modifying it to work in landscape. So when the phone is in portrait orientation the CGCalendar is instantiated from the apps main view controller using the original portrait view class and when in landscape orientation using the new modified landscape view class. Most of the other classes in GCCalendar are shared without modification. A few had to be duplicated as well. I got it all working great except for an issue with the datasource. The datasource is called when the calendar is first loaded and each time the user changes the dates being viewed. Problem is I can't get the datasource call to work on the first call. I am stumped as it works fine in portrait orientation and I cannot find any difference between the 2 versions. Following is some of the code that shows how it gets to the datasource call the first time. Subsequent calls removes all the calendar subviews and instantiates them again with the new dates. The duplicated landscape class names end in LS. Otherwise as you can see they are identical. Does anyone has any idea of where else I might look to resolve this issue? PHP-MySQL: Arranging rows from seperate tables together/Expression to determine row origin

I'm new to PHP and have a two part question. I need to take rows from two separate tables, and arrange them in descending order by their date. The rows do not correspond in order or number and have no relationship with each other. ---EDIT--- They each contain updates on a site, one table holds text, links, dates, titles etc. from a blog. The other has titles, links, specifications, etc. from images. I want to arrange some basic information (title, date, small description) in an updates section on the main page of the site, and for it to be in order of date. Merging them into one table and modifying it to suit both types isn't what I'd like to do here, the blog table is Wordpress' standard wp_posts and I don't feel comfortable adding columns to make it suit the image table too. Additionally, I need a way to form a conditional expression based on which table they came from, so that rows from table 1 get echoed differently than rows from table 2? I want results from table 1 to be echoed differently (with different strings concatenated around them, I mean) for the purpose of styling them differently than those from table two. And vice versa. I know an if...else statement would work here, but I have no idea how can I write the expression that would determine which table the row is from. All and any help is appreciated, thanks.

I looked at the DataServiceContext to see if it would work and it does but it uses XML to communicate between the restful services and the client. Which would work but DataServiceContext does not give the level of messaging that HttpRequestMessage/HttpResponseMessage gives me for informing users on the errors/missing information with their post. We are planning on supporting multiple devices from our restful services platform but that requires that I can use NewtonSoft Json as well as Microsoft's DataContractJsonSerializer if need be. My question is for a restful service standpoint - is there a way I can configure/code the restful services to take in the AssignedNbr as in JSON as without the quotes. Or from a JSON standpoint is their a way I can get the JSON built without getting into the serializing business nor do I want our clients to have deal with custom serializers if they want to write their own apps against our restful services. However I should note that on this unix system echo -e doesn't work (don't ask me why I don't know and I don't have any sort of permissions to change it and even if I wouldn't be allowed to) Bash Shell Scripting Error: "./myDemo ./myDemo: line 62: syntax error near unexpected token done' ./myDemo: line 62: " [Edited] EDIT: I fixed the while statement error, however now when I run the script some things still aren't working correctly. It seems that in the b|B) switch statement cp $file $file.bkup doesn't actually copy the file to file.bkup ?
