• C# and WUAPI: BeginDownload function

  first things first: I have no experience in object-oriented programming, whatsoever. I created my share of VB scripts and a bit of Java in school, but that's it. So my problem most likely lies there. But nevertheless, for the past few days, I've been trying to get a little application together that allows me to scan for, select and install Windows updates. So far I've been able to understand most of the reference and with the help of a few posts around the internet and I'm now at the point where I can select and download updates. So far I've been able to download a collection of updates using the following code: UpdateCollection CurrentInstallCollection = (UpdateCollection)e.Argument; UpdateDownloader CurrentDownloader = CurrentSession.CreateUpdateDownloader(); CurrentDownloader.Updates = CurrentInstallCollection; This is run in a background worker and returns once the download is done. It works just fine, I can see the updates getting downloaded on the file system but there isn't really a way to display the progress within the application. To do such a thing, there is the IDownloadJob interface that allows me to use the .BeginDownload method of the downloader (UpdateSession.CreateUpdateDownloader)...i think, at least. :D And here comes the problem: I have now tried for about 6 hours to get the code working, but no matter what I tried nothing worked. Also, there isn't much information around on the internet about the .BeginDownload method (or at least it seems that way), but my call of the method doesn't work: IDownloadJob CurrentDownloadJob = CurrentDownloader.BeginDownload(); I have no clue what arguments to supply...I've tried methods, objects...to no avail. The complete block of code looks like this: UpdateCollection CurrentInstallCollection = (UpdateCollection)e.Argument; UpdateDownloader CurrentDownloader = CurrentSession.CreateUpdateDownloader(); CurrentDownloader.Updates = CurrentInstallCollection; IDownloadJob CurrentDownloadJob = CurrentDownloader.BeginDownload(); IDownloadProgress CurrentJobProgess = CurrentDownloadJob.GetProgress(); tbStatus.Text = Convert.ToString(CurrentJobProgess.PercentComplete); I've found one source on the internet that called the method with .BeginDownload(this,this,this), which does not report any error in the code editor but probably won't help with reporting as it is my understanding, that the arguments supplied are the methods that are called when the described event occurrs (progress has changed or the download has finished). I'm using System.Net; and I have the following code: WebClient ww = new WebClient(); www.DownloadFileAsync(new Uri("http://www.sinvise.net/tester/1.jpg"), AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + "\\1.jpg"); The problem is, is that it doesn't download the file, it's just showing up as 0kb file and not downloading, I don't know what the problem is, can anyone help? • Recommend a good db4o viewer

  I'm playing around with db4o, and I have the Object Manager viewer thingy for Visual Studio. It seems okay, but not exactly on par with tools like HeidiSQL/SQL Studio/etc., not to mention that it locks the db4o file--I can't use my db4o app and Object Manager at the same time. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but regardless, I'd like to know what else is out there. What tools would you recommend for looking at and manipulating db4o files?

  I know this question has been asked a hundred times, and I've read and tried for 2 hours now, but I can't find my error :-( I am trying to create a simple webbrowser and therefore have a webview, where I login on a site and get access to a picture area. With help of a DefaultHttpClient, I want to make it possible to download pictures in the secured area. Therefore I am trying to share the cookies from the webview and pass them on to the HttpClient, so that it is authenticated and able to download. But whatever I try and do, I always get a 403 response back... When I manually say cookieManager.getCookie("www.example.com"); I get some cookies back, which I add to the HttpClient cookie store: There are 5 cookies added - testcookie = 0 - PHPSESSID = 320947238someGibberishSessionId - email = [email protected] - pass = 32423te32someEncodedPassGibberish - user = 345542 So although these cookies, a session ID and other stuff, get added to the HttpClient, it never get's through to download an image. Im totally lost... though I guess that it either has something to do with the cookies domains, or that Im still missing other cookies. But from where the heck should I know which cookies exist in the webview, when I have to specify a specific URL to get a cookie back?? :-( Any advice?

  So I have a project where there is some automatic initialization going on through some classes that are created automatically as global variables (yeah they are static instances). At a point inside this (it has no relation with the C# GUI for the user, so it isn't derived from any C# class) I need to see if a flag is set or not. I use toolstrip menu with checked and unchecked status in order to set or unset the flag. The problem is that I have difficulties to see if the flag is checked or not from this static class. My class is inside a different project/namespace and a DLL is created what later is linked to the GUI of the application. The GUI depends from this Manager class so making the Manager class to depend from the GUI is not an option. Nevertheless, I should be able to see its state knowing its name or through some other means. I mean, I don't want to download all the bytes of the remote image -- just enough to detect if it exists. • HTML client-side portable file generation - no external resources or server calls

  I have the following situation: I have set up a series of Cron jobs on an internal company server to run various PHP scripts designed to check data integrity. Each PHP script queries a company database, formats the returned query data into an HTML file containing one or more <tables>, and then mails the HTML file to several client emails as an attachment. From my experience, most of the PHP scripts generate HTML files with only a few tables, however there are a few PHP scripts the create HTML files with around 30 tables. HTML files have been chosen as the distribution format of these scans because HTML makes it easy to view many tables at once in a browser window. I would like to add the functionality for the clients to download a table in the HTML file as a CSV file. I anticipate clients using this feature when they suspect a data integrity issue based on the table data. It would be ideal for them to be able to take the table in question, export the data out to a CSV file, and then study it further. Because need for exporting the data to CSV format is at the discretion of the client, unpredictable as to what table will be under scrutiny, and intermittently used I do not want to create CSV files for every table. Normally creating a CSV file wouldn't be too difficult, using JavaScript/jQuery to preform DOM traversal and generate the CSV file data into a string utilizing a server call or flash library to facilitate the download process; but I have one limiting constraint: The HTML file needs to be "portable." I would like the clients to be able to take their HTML file and preform analysis of the data outside the company intranet. Also it is likely these HTML files will be archived, so making the export functionality "self contained" in the HTML files is a highly desirable feature for the two previous reasons. The "portable" constraint of CSV file generation from a HTML file means: I cannot make a server call. This means ALL the file generation must be done client-side. I want the single HTML file attached to the email to contain all the resources to generate the CSV file. This means I cannot use jQuery or flash libraries to generate the file. I understand, for obvious security reasons, that writing out files to disk using JavaScript isn't supported by any browser. I don't want to create a file without the user knowledge; I would like to generate the file using JavaScript in memory and then prompt the user the "download" the file from memory. I have looked into generating the CSV file as a URI however, according to my research and testing, this approach has a few problems: URIs for files are not supported by IE (See Here) URIs in FireFox saves the file with a random file name and as a .part file As much as it pains me, I can accept the fact the IE<=v9 won't create a URI for files. I would like to create a semi-cross-browser solution in which Chrome, Firefox, and Safari create a URI to download the CSV file after JavaScript DOM traversal compiles the data. The real help I need is with formatting the URI to what I want within the doSomething() function.
