  • JQuery - .position isn't returning offset relative to parent.

    - by Spines
    I'm using .position to find the offset of where the element is relative to the parent, however it seems to be returning a value that is the offset from some parent up the ancestor tree. I have a button, and its wrapped withing a div and its the only element of that div. The div is floated right. .position is returning a value like {left:780, top:370}, when the true value should be around {left:200, top:0}. I'm using jquery 1.4

  • jquery in ajax loaded content

    - by Kim Gysen
    My application is supposed to be a single page application and I have the following code that works fine: home.php: <div id="container"> </div> accordion.php: //Click functions: load content $('#parents').click(function(){ //Load parent in container $('#container').load('http://www.blabla.com/entities/parents/parents.php'); }); parents.php: <div class="entity_wrapper"> Some divs and selectors </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ //Some jQuery / javascript }); </script> So the content loads fine, while the scripts dynamically loaded execute fine as well. I apply this system repetitively and it continues to work smoothly. I've seen that there are a lot of frameworks available on SPA's (such as backbone.js) but I don't understand why I need them if this works fine. From the backbone.js website: When working on a web application that involves a lot of JavaScript, one of the first things you learn is to stop tying your data to the DOM. It's all too easy to create JavaScript applications that end up as tangled piles of jQuery selectors and callbacks, all trying frantically to keep data in sync between the HTML UI, your JavaScript logic, and the database on your server. For rich client-side applications, a more structured approach is often helpful. Well, I totally don't have the feeling that I'm going through the stuff they mention. Adding the javascript per page works really well for me. They are html containers with clear scope and the javascript is just related to that part. More over, the front end doesn't do that much, most of the logic is managed based on Ajax calls to external PHP scripts. Sometimes the js can be a bit more extended for some functionalities, but all just loads as smooth in less than a second. If you think that this is bad coding, please tell me why I cannot do this and more importantly, what is the alternative I should apply. At the moment, I really don't see a reason on why I would change this approach as it just works too well. I'm kinda stuck on this question because it just worries me sick as it seems to easy to be true. Why would people go through hard times if it would be as easy as this...

  • jQuery function execute on Button Click and Enter/Return (key)

    - by Alvin Jones
    I'm trying to create a little search box that allows you to search Twitter based on the keyword you enter in the input field. While it's work, it only works if you press the Submit button. I would also like to be able to press the Enter or Return key to initiate the search. I've tried using the .sumbit function and wrapping my input around a form element with no success. Any insight would be greatly appreciate! Live example: http://tinyurl.com/84axyym <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ function(data) { $('#startSearch').click(function(){ $('#tweets .results').remove(); var searchTerm = 'http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=' + $('#twitterSearch').val() + '&callback=?' $.getJSON(searchTerm, function(data) { $.each(data.results, function() { $('<div class="results"></div>') .hide() .append('<a class="userPicLink" href="http://twitter.com/' + this.from_user + '">' + '<img class="userImg" src="' + this.profile_image_url + '">' + '</a>') .append('<span class="userName">' + '<a href="http://twitter.com/' + this.from_user + '">' + this.from_user + '</span>') .append('<span class="userText">' + this.text + '</span>') .append('<time class="textTime">' + relTime(this.created_at) + '</time>') .appendTo('#tweets') .fadeIn(); }); }); </script> <body> <label id="searchLabel" for="twitterSearch">Search</label> <input type="search" list="searchSugg" id="twitterSearch" placeholder="css3 animation" required aria-required="true"> <input id="startSearch" type="submit"> <datalist id="searchSugg"> <option value="css3 mulitple backgrounds"> <option value="html5 video"> <option value="responsive web design"> <option value="twitter api"> </datalist> <div id="tweets"> </div> </body>

  • Getting the value from asp:LinkButton's CommandArgument attribute using jquery/javascript

    - by LobalOrning
    I need to get the value of the CommandArgument attribute of a LinkButton, in an asp:Repeater. I have an asp:Repeater with 2 LinkButtons whose CommandArgument I set to a value: <ItemTemplate> <tr class="odd"> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "batch_id")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "productId")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "serial_number")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "activation_card_number")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "transaction_amount","{0:C}")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "response_dt", "{0:M/d/yyyy HH:mm:ss}")%></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "resp_process_msg")%></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "resp_response_code")%></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><asp:LinkButton ID="lnkBtnRestageAdd" CommandName="Add" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("activation_card_number")%>' runat="server" Text="stage" class="add" OnClientClick="return false;" /></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><asp:LinkButton ID="lnkBtnRestageMinus" CommandName="Subtract" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("activation_card_number")%>' runat="server" Text="stage" class="minus" OnClientClick="return false;" /></td> </tr> </ItemTemplate> I have suppressed the PostBack with OnClientClick="return false;" so that I can pop a jQuery dialog modal when the link buttons get clicked: if (btnAdd != null) { $(".add").click(function() { $("#<%=divDialogAdd.ClientID %>").removeAttr("style"); $("#<%=divDialogAdd.ClientID %>").dialog("open"); }); } In the modal I have 2 other asp:LinkButtons, and when the 'Yes' button is clicked I do the postback like so: yesBtn.click(function() { setTimeout('__doPostBack(\'btnAdd\',\'\')', 0); //need to add a param }); What I need to do, is somehow grab the CommandArgument value from the LinkButton in the Repeater, so that I can pass that as a parametere or assign it to a hidden field. I have tried jQuery's attr(), but that only works when the attribute was set using that function as well. How can I get this value, or what other way can I go about this?

  • Jquery Content Cycle Next/Previous not working

    - by user340745
    I have a definition list with a lot of text inside of it. When a user comes to the page, I want the jQuery to hide two thirds of that content, add a next and previous button where appropriate, and fade the content in and out. The first third of the content is .issue-group-1, the second third is .issue-group-3, the third, .issue-group-3. I am trying to set it so that when the user hits the next button, the next button changes classes, and thus acts differently the next time the user clicks it (that is, it takes them to the third page instead of the second. Right now, the next/previous buttons are working on the first and second "pages" but the next button to the third page won't work. My code is probably too long and this is maybe not the best way to do it--I'm new to jquery. Any suggestions would be helpful. $(document).ready(function(){ $('.issue-group-2, .issue-group-3').hide(); $('a#next-button.page1').fadeIn(500); $('a#next-button.page1').click(function() { $(this).removeClass('page1').addClass('page2'); $('.issue-group-1').fadeOut(500, function() { $('.issue-group-2').fadeIn(500); }); $('a#previous-button').fadeIn(500); }); $('a#previous-button.page2').click(function() { $('#next-button.page2').removeClass('page2').addClass('page1'); $('.issue-group-2').fadeOut(500, function() { $('.issue-group-1').fadeIn(500); }); $('a#previous-button').fadeOut(500); }); $('a#next-button.page2').click(function() { $('a#previous-button').removeClass('page2').addClass('page3'); $('.issue-group-2').fadeOut(500, function() { $('.issue-group-3').fadeIn(500); }); $('a#next-button').fadeOut(500); }); $('a#previous-button.page3').click(function() { $(this).removeClass('page3').addClass('page2'); $('.issue-group-2').fadeOut(500, function() { $('.issue-group-2').fadeIn(500); }); $('a#next-button').fadeIn(500); }); });

    - by GrandVizier
    I have a div element which my code will fill with a dynamic amount of links. Using jquery, I want to hide all the links except the first one. This is what I came up with and it works, I was just wondering if this is the best way to do it: $("#panelContainer").each(function(n) { $(this).children().hide(); $("#panelContainer a:first").show(); });

  • jQuery slideToggle - when div is toggled it pushes content out of viewable area (IE)

    - by Chris
    This is an annoying ocurrance in IE when I use the jQuery slideToggle effect. Without the div being open, page looks normal. The minute I toggle the div open, it extends past the current content, overtop of the footer, and out of the viewable browser area (Even after scrolling all the way down). This feature seems to work just fine in firefox. Do I need an additional hack or CSS to make it work in IE8?
