  • Microsoft Speech Recognition in web service

    I'm trying to use the System.Speech.Recognition namespace for recognizing speech in a web service. Actually, the WS calls a dll that uses this namespace. The problem is that...I can't. First, I had a Access denied error. After changing the Identity of my application pool to LocalSystem (security break, I know), that disappeared. But a timeout appeared. I receive no error, but no response either. I did some tests, and, the same code (very simple) that I use for recognizing the text in a WAV returns the answer in around 2 seconds, when integrated in a desktop application, but hangs and does nothing in a web application. I think I'm missing something... I'm not supposed to use System.Speech.Recognition in a web application? Am I supposed to use something else? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and I am a bit of a robotics enthusiast. I have used KiKS (in MATLAB for simulating Khepera robots), MobotSim (in Windows, simulates a point like robot using a BASIC editor) and Player/Stage (with C/C++ on Ubuntu 9.04). My question, can MS Robotics Studio be installed in Ubuntu Linux using Wine (I am using 1.1.31) ? Has anyone done it ? Any other way to install MS Robotics Studio in Unix (Any flavour) ?   • Microsoft Reporting: Setting subreport parameters in code

    How can I set a parameter of a sub-report? I have successfully hooked myself up to the SubreportProcessing event, I can find the correct sub-report through e.ReportPath, and I can add datasources through e.DataSources.Add. But I find no way of adding report parameters?? I have found people suggesting to add them to the master report, but I don't really want to do that, since the master report shouldn't have to be connected to the sub-report at all, other than that it is wrapping the sub-report. I am using one report as a master template, printing name of the report, page numbers etc. And the subreport is going to be the report itself. And if I could only find a way to set those report parameters of the sub-report I would be good to go... Clarification: Creating/Defining the parameters is not the problem. The problem is to set their values. I thought the natural thing to do was to do it in the SubreportProcessing event. And the SubreportProcessingEventArgs do in fact have a Parameters property. But it is read only! So how do you use that? How can I set their value?

  • Stack usage with MMX intrinsics and Microsoft C++

    I have an inline assembler loop that cumulatively adds elements from an int32 data array with MMX instructions. In particular, it uses the fact that the MMX registers can accommodate 16 int32s to calculate 16 different cumulative sums in parallel. I would now like to convert this piece of code to MMX intrinsics but I am afraid that I will suffer a performance penalty because one cannot explicitly intruct the compiler to use the 8 MMX registers to accomulate 16 independent sums.   • Send shrink Command to Microsoft SQL Database file via Ado.net connection

    How is it possible to execute a direct SQL command to an ADO.NET connected database? I want to send a DBCC SHRINKDATABASE to the SQL server, to compress the current datafile after a big deletion process. The function ObjectContext::CreateQuery returns a parser error after the DBCC command. Is there any other way to shrink the database file, or another way to send the SQL command directly to the SQL Server?

When speaking the text (to the speaker) the expected events (StartStream, Word, EndStream) are fired, however, no events are fired when outputing to a wave file.   • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - 99% fragmentation on non-clustered, non-unique index

    I have a table with several indexes (defined below). One of the indexes (IX_external_guid_3) has 99% fragmentation regardless of rebuilding/reorganizing the index. Anyone have any idea as to what might cause this, or the best way to fix it? We are using Entity Framework 4.0 to query this, the EF queries on the other indexed fields about 10x faster on average then the external_guid_3 field, however an ADO.Net query is roughly the same speed on both (though 2x slower than the EF Query to indexed fields). Version My driver's provider and version are represented as "unknown". I don't know how can I set these values. Where can I set this value? By SignTool? Or Resource file?     I have a client that uses a point-of-sale solution involving an Access database for its back-end storage. I am trying to provide this client with a service that involves, for SLA reasons, the need to copy parts of this Access database into tables in my own database server which runs SQL Server 2008. I need to do this on a periodic basis, probably about 5 times a day. I do have VPN connectivity to the client. Is there an easy programmatic way to do this, or an available tool? I don't want to handcraft what I assume is a relatively common task.

  • how does Cocoa compare to Microsoft, Qt?

    I have done a few months of development with Qt (built GUI programatically only) and am now starting to work with Cocoa. I have to say, I love Cocoa. A lot of the things that seemed hard in Qt are easy with Cocoa. Obj-C seems to be far less complex than C++. This is probably just me, so: Ho do you feel about this? How does Cocoa compare to WPF (is that the right framework?) to Qt? How does Obj-C compare to C# to C++? How does XCode/Interface Builder compare to Visual Studio to Qt Creator? How do the Documentations compare? For example, I find Cocoa's Outlets/Actions far more useful than Qt's Signals and Slots because they actually seem to cover most GUI interactions while I had to work around Signals/Slots half the time. (Did I just use them wrong?) Also, the standard templates of XCode give me copy/paste, undo/redo, save/open and a lot of other stuff practically for free while these were rather complex tasks in Qt. Please only answer if you have actual knowledge of at least two of these development environments/frameworks/languages.
