• Sharing variable within different javascript file at client side

  I was actually going through this link. which explains how we can share global variable across multiple js. but the point is what need to be done if I am getting some variable into one js and need to pass to another one mentioned in same document after the 1st one. approach which followed was: Script 1 <script type="text/javascript" src="js/client.js"></script> body added some hidden input with id myHiddenId, where values are set using client.js Script 2 <script type="text/javascript" src="js/anotherJS.js"></script> inside script 2 I am simply using $("#myHiddenId").val(); and using for my purpose. I want to know whether I am following correct approach, because that hidden field may have some data which client should not get aware of. is there any other way through which I can pass the variable values across the js files ? Since I am at beginner level hence digging up some resources/books but still no luck.

This query takes about 14 seconds to run. The table has 214856 rows, and the particular run_id I am filtering on has 162204 records. It's not on a super high power machine, but I feel like I could be doing this more efficiently. My main goal is to summarize by Rule and Title and show Pass and Fail count columns.

We need to support "cookieless". so in the web.config, it's set as <sessionState mode="SQLServer" sqlConnectionString="Data Source=ds;Initial Catalog=db;User Id=uid;Password=pwd" allowCustomSqlDatabase="true" cookieless="true" timeout="720" regenerateExpiredSessionId="false"/> The WCF service will be supporting sessions, so we have also set "aspNetCompatibilityEnabled" to true in web.config. <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true" multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true"/> The service and interfaces are as follows, [ServiceContract(SessionMode=SessionMode.Allowed)] public interface ICDOCService { } [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] public class CDOCService : ICDOCService { } The problem we are facing is we cannot access the service from any client application.   I am trying to pass some JavaScript variables that I have assigned to form variables into a query string used by a jQuery plug in called fancybox.   I want to use both ContextLoaderListener (so that I can pass Spring Beans to my servlet) as well as DispatchServlet (Spring MVC). However, currently I have to pass init param to these both class initializer: <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name> <param-value> /WEB-INF/spring/app-config.xml </param-value> So, I use the same xml for these both classes. Wonder if it would lead to my beans being initialized twice? If yes, how would I do to avoid that?

  Hi, In my web application, I use strust2 url tag to pass parameters like id etc., For example, I use a link to delete an entity and I use param to pass the id of the entity to be deleted. And I follow this throughout my web app for adding, editing, deleting an entity. During run time, sometimes, I don't get the params to be stored in my action's bean properties. When I see the link that is generated, I get something like <a href='/projit1/p/discuss/viewDiscussion.action?d=11&amp;amp;amp;projid=11&amp;amp;disid=4'> What are these amps for ? why do they sit in between the action calls (made by link via url tag actions ) ? By the time I traverse back and forth in my web app, I get 10s and 20s of amp sitting in the request URL. What is the problem here ? Please help.

  Background Story I'm working at a software firm developing a test automation framework to replace our old spaghetti tangled system. Since our system requires a login for almost everything we do, I decided it would be best to use @BeforeMethod, @DataProvider, and @Factory to setup my tests. However, I've run into some issues. Sample Test Case Lets say the software system is a baseball team roster. We want to test to make sure a user can search for a team member by name. (Note: I'm aware that BeforeMethods don't run in any given order -- assume that's been taken care of for now.) @BeforeMethod public void setupSelenium() { // login with username & password // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page } @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String playerName, String searchTerm) { // search for "searchTerm" // browse through results // pass if we find playerName // fail (Didn't find the player) } This test case assumes the following: The user has already logged on (in a BeforeMethod, most likely) The user has already navigated to the search page (trivial, before method) The parameters to the test are associated with the aforementioned login The Problems So lets try and figure out how to handle the parameters for the test case. Idea #1 This method allows us to associate dataproviders with usernames, and lets us use multiple users for any specific test case! @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String user, String pass, String name, String search) { // login with user/pass // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page // ... } ...but there's lots of repetition, as we have to make EVERY function accept two extra parameters. Not to mention, we're also testing the acknowledge announcements feature, which we don't actually want to test. Idea #2 So lets use the factory to initialize things properly! class BaseTestCase { public BaseTestCase(String user, String password, Object[][] data); } class SomeTest { @Factory public void ... } With this, we end up having to write one factory per test case... Although, it does let us have multiple users per test-case. Conclusion I'm about fresh out of ideas. There was another idea I had where I was loading data from an XML file, and then calling the methods from a program... but its getting silly. Any ideas?

  I have a container class (containing a multi-index container) for which I have a public "foreach" member-function, so users can pass a functor to apply on all elements. While implementing, I had a case where the functor should only be applied to some elements of a range in the container, so I overloaded the foreach, to pass some valid range. Now, in some cases, it was worthwhile to stop on a certain condition, so practically, I let the foreach stop based on the return-value of the function. I'm pleased with how the system works, but I have one concern: How should a "foreach" on a range, with stop conditions be called? Anyone knows a generic, clear and concise name?

  I have a legacy C++ project that takes an annoyingly long time to build (several minutes, even for small incremental changes), and I found most of the time was spent linking. The project is already using precompiled headers and incremental compilation.   If i pass a char * into a function. I want to then take that char * convert it to a std::string and once I get my result convert it back to char * from a std::string to show the result. I don't know how to do this for conversion ( I am not talking const char * but just char *) I am not sure how to manipulate the value of the pointer I send in. so steps i need to do take in a char * convert it into a string. take the result of that string and put it back in the form of a char * return the result such that the value should be available outside the function and not get destroyed. If possible can i see how it could be done via reference vs a pointer (whose address I pass in by value however I can still modify the value that pointer is pointing to. so even though the copy of the pointer address in the function gets destroyed i still see the changed value outside. thanks!

The function is below and the code below creates an array out of a string called type, but what I want to do is pass it a variable string and have it build a list based on that string. So if I wanted the type list I would say list_it("type") But if I try something like getResources().getStringArray(R.array.thelist); it doesn't work.   In Ruby 1.8.7, Array("hello\nhello") gives you ["hello\n", "hello"]. This does two things that I don't expect: It splits the string on newlines. I'd expect it simply to give me an array with the string I pass in as its single element without modifying the data I pass in. Even if you accept that it's reasonable to split a string when passing it to Array, why does it retain the newline character when "foo\nbar".split does not?   Is there some way to pass an object to a windows service? I know the method myServiceController.Star(string[] arg) but i need to pass a more complex object than a string array. Actually, i don't need the object to be passed as a parameter, what i really needs is that the service can use an object created in a windows forms application. I've tried using System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.Serialize method to convert the object into a Json but i couldn't because the object contains a circular reference. I also tried using pointers, but i couldn't becouse it is a managed type object. Any idea what can i do?

Depending whether the input is an iterable or not, the outcome of the method will be different. Not when I want to pass a non-iterable as iterable input, it is easy to do: I’ll just wrap it with a tuple. What do I do when I want to pass an iterable (a string for example) but want the function to take it as if it’s non-iterable? E.g. make that iter(str) fails.
