• Create a Font using strings pulled from a string table.

  I am writing a tool to create an otf or ttc with only characters defined in our localized string table, so we can cut down memory usage. I already have the information for the Japanese characters we are using but I am unable to find an example of creating a new font based around these characters. Does anyone know of a good example or even the interface I can access to do this? I am working in C# with .NET 3.5. I am looking into Volt and TTOasm from Microsoft, but I am not sure if they will do exactly what I need. Any information is appreciated. Thanks, Matt Smith

• Best practices for querying an entire row in a database table? (MySQL / CodeIgniter)

  Sorry for the novice question! I have a table called cities in which I have fields called id, name, xpos, ypos. I'm trying to use the data from each row to set a div's position and name. What I'm wondering is what's the best practice for dynamically querying an unknown amount of rows (I don't know how many cities there might be, I want to pull the information from all of them) and then passing the variables from the model into the view and then setting attributes with it? Right now I've 'hacked' a solution where I run a different function each time which pulls a value using a query ('SELECT id FROM cities;'), then I store that in a global array variable and pass it into view. I do this for each var so I have arrays called: city_idVar, city_nameVar, city_xposVar, city_yposVar then I know that the city_nameVar[0] matches up with city_xposVar[0] etc. Is there a better way?

• Cannot call scalar-valued CLR UDF from select ... from table statement

  I have created a scalar-valued CLR UDF (user defined function). It takes a timezone id and a datetime and returns the datetime converted to that timezone. I can call it from a simple select without problems: "select dbo.udfConvert('Romance Standard Time', @datetime)" (@datetime is of course a valid datetime variable) But if I call it passing in a datetime from a table it fails: "select dbo.udfConvert('Romance Standard Time', StartTime) from sometable" (column StartTime is of course a column of type datetime) The error message is: "Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.udfConvert", or the name is ambiguous." This message is really for beginners that has misspelled something, but as it works in one case and not in the other, I don't think I have done any misspellings. Any ideas?

• The best way to display data in a table view?

  Hey guys, I'm trying to display nutritional information in a table view but am struggling about the best way to show the info. I don't want to create unique views for each page as that would take up a lot of space. My ideal avenue would be like a website having links to data pages instead of individual views for each page. How would I best implement that? For example, I would want the first page to be a list of restaurants, then as you press the restaurant it would list the different types of food...the next page would be a list of those foods and then the final page would be the nutrition info itself.   i am currently building a system in MSSQL 2K5. i have a table that holds information about certain insurance schemes such as overheads and other things. these values will change occasionally and currently i administer the database straight through the management Studio. i would like to build a simple interface that will allow my colleagues to change these values by selecting the company in a dropdown and the current values will populate. they can then edit these values and submit them to the database. is this possible in the current Visual Studio supplied with MSSQL server 2K5 or do i need to get another product. i am confident that with the help of stack overflow and google i can build this myself, but i need pointed in the right direction as to which environment would be easiest and best to start building it. • How many records can i store in a Sql server table before it's getting ugly?

  Hi, i've been asked to do some performance tests for a new system. It is only just running with a few client, but as they expect to grow, these are the numbers i work with for my test: 200 clients, 4 years of data, and the data changes per.... 5 minutes. So for every 5 minutes for every client there is 1 record. That means 365*24*12 = 105.000 records per client per year, that means 80 milion records for my test. It has one FK to another table, one PK (uniqueidentifier) and one index on the clientID. Is this something SqlServer laughs about because it isn't scaring him, is this getting too much for one quad core 8 GB machine, is this on the edge, or..... Has anybody had any experience with these kind of numbers?

Is there a way that they don't have to be specified and the auto increment of primary key still works? thanks.

  Hi all, In my application, I want to detect the end of the entire table with scrollview. Since there're no sections in my scrollview, I'm using noOfRows*rowHeight to reach the end. I'm using scrollview.contentOffset.y to detect the y offset, but this contentOffset isn't matching the multiplication result i.e. I have 20 rows and with height as 250. So it comes as 5000, but my scrollview.offset.y at the end of last cell is nearly about 4650. What's this difference? Thanx in advance.

  I have a mysql table that stores relationships. Items can be related to another item in one direction, or both items can be related to each other. • Recreation of DB using "mysql mydb < mydb.sql" is really slow when the table has tens of millions of

  It seems that a MySQL database that has a table with tens of millions of records will get a big INSERT INTO statement when the following mysqldump some_db > some_db.sql is done to back up the database. (is it 1 insert statement that handles all the records?) So when reconstructing the DB using mysql some_db < some_db.sql then the CPU is hardly busy (about 1.8% usage by the mysql process... I don't see a mysqld either?) and also the hard disk doesn't seem to be too busy... Last time, the whole restore process took 5 hours. Is there a way to make it faster? Such as, when doing mysqldump, can it break the INSERT statement into shorter ones, so that the mysql doesn't need to parse the line so hard when restoring the DB?

But when I include following:- context.Log = new System.IO.StreamWriter("d:\\abcd.txt"); I get an error, that "The process can not access the file because it is being used by another process" and that process is "w3wp.exe". How can I see the sql commands being executed by DataContext then ?

This Works fine in a standalone system. However when I use the same in a multitier (Web server, Application Server and DB Server) architecture it is throwing 4861 error. Could you please help? The Files are stored in the Web Server. The Translated error message below: " Error – 2147217900:4861: Since it can not be opened for the file \Servername\c$\Folder1\Folder2\Folder3\file.csv, It can not be loaded with large capacity. (the first character is invalid) and I want to correct all of them.
