• ASP: using existing Crystal Report with date parameter

  I have an existing Crystal Report done in Crystal Reports version 9. I need to display it via an ASP website created in Visual Studio 2008. I have put the Crystal data source and viewer controls on the design page and configured the controls to use the crystal report but cannot seem to figure out how to pass a date to the report which uses it as an input parameter for a SQL Server 2005 stored procedure. I have tried putting a calendar control on the design page but don't know how to use it to pass the date parameter. Thanks in advance for any help. Eric

• Callback exception/error handling for ASP TreeView OnTreeNodePopulate?

  We're using an asp:TreeView configured with lazy loading. The callback method assigned for OnTreeNodePopulate throws an exception if the user has been logged out since the page was loaded. What we want to do is to direct the user to the login page. First attempt was to catch the exception on the server and try Response.Redirect(...), but that doesn't work because you can't redirect within a callback. I've tried various other approaches, including using ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(...) but that doesn't seem to work for OnTreeNodePopulate. If there was some way we could hook into the callback event handling on the client side then it would be easy, but the TreeView doesn't seem to offer anything here. Suggestions?

  I am developing a project in asp.net web forms. I have a little problem. Whent the page load, I load some data from the dabase and present it on the page. On the same page I have form where I can input some textobox and with the click on the button make update on the same data in the database whis is at the first time loaded on the same page? The date is update, I can see it in SQL SERVER, but on the web page not. Its still the old data presents. After I close my application and run it again, then the new data appears on the page.

• Perform tasks with delay, without delaying web response (ASP.NET)

  I'm working on a feature that needs to send two text messages with a 30 second delay, and it is crucial that both text messages are sent. Currently, this feature is built with ajax requests, that are sent with a 30 second javascript delay, but since this requires the user to have his browser open and left on the same page for at least 30 seconds, it is not a method I like. Instead, I have tried to solve this with threading. This is what I've done: Public Shared Sub Larma() Dim thread As New System.Threading.Thread(AddressOf Larma_Thread) thread.Start() End Sub Private Shared Sub Larma_Thread() StartaLarm() Thread.Sleep(1000 * 30) StoppaLarm() End Sub A web handler calls Larma(), and StartaLarm() and StoppaLarm() are the methods that send the first and second text messages respectively. However, I only get the first text message delivered - the second is never sent. Am I doing something wrong here? I have no deep understanding of how threading works in ASP.NET, so please let me know how to accomplish this.

  I have the following class as part of an asp.net application. public sealed class SomeClass { private static string appId = Guid.NewGuid().ToString(); public static ReadSomethingFromDb(){} public static WriteSomethingToDb(){} } There are more than one application instances in the same application pool, and they all access the same database. I want the operations performed by the above class to be uniquely tied to the instance that performed it, hence the use of the appId. So adding a record to the database would for example contain a name, address and appId. This has been simplified for discussion purposes. Assuming that I have two instances running at mysite.a and mysite.b the above class would generate two different guids. My problem is that mysite.a sometimes produces more than one guid, which is unexpected. Thank you in advance

  Hi, I am working with small ASP.NET MVC project - online store. I have addToCart method which adds selected product to cart - it updates cart table in my db and showing cart view with its content. But I have problems. while db is updating correctly the view does not. I see that quantity of the product in my db is incremented correctly but quantity in view is not changed. I have to stop debugging my app in visual studia and restart it - then my view is showing correct data. What can be wrong?

  Hi, I have an asp.net web page (C# 2008) where the user would enter an EmployeeID, and when they tab out of the textbox, they get a messagebox prompting them to select one of two values from a dropdown listbox. The code for the message prompt in the codebehind is : Response.Write("<script>window.alert('Please select Alpha or Beta')</script>"); After the prompt is displayed, and the user clicks "ok" and returns to the page, the text on the page appears distorted (the text in labels are a size larger, the labels get wrapped to another line etc) I tried putting a Response.Redirect("UserProfileMaint.aspx"); after the messagebox in the codebehind, but now, the messagebox does not appear; I want to display the messagebox validation, and ensure the appearance of the text on the page is not distorted. How can I do this?

• Catching / Redirecting 404's (ASP.NET)

  Ive noticed that when I request a page in ASP.NET (webforms) that does not exist, the 'StaticFile' handler deals with the error notification. Id like to be a bit more helpful in these situations. What is the correct way for me to intercept this 404, and as a result, run some code to redirect the user? Two ways Ive thought of doing which I currently don't really like are: 1 - Create a module that basically does a if (!file.exists($url){redirect to $correctedurl}) 2 - Modify the error.aspx.cs(or the default error page) to do something similar (yuck!)

  I have an ASP.NET 3.5 WebForm that leverages the frameworks Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference() method and I'd like some of the calls to be synchronous. Now, the documentation says that the 5th parameter (see below) controls this. Specifically, when you pass 'false' it's supposed to be a non-asynchronous call. However, regardless if it's true or false, it still processes the call asynchronously. Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference(this, "arg", "ReceiveServerData", "context",false); Is there a work-around for this or perhaps I'm doing something wrong?   I'm working on adding a todo list to a project system and would like to have the todo creation trigger a async postback to update the database. I'd really like to host this in a usercontrol so I can drop the todo list onto a project page, task page or stand alone todo list page. Here's what I have.   My title is probably not very clear but here's the deal. I'm a software engineer with experience in many languages but my current focus is Windows/Web applications using C# and .NET. I'm currently running a personal blog using WordPress and love it. I need to setup a website for my consulting company and, while I enjoy the canned benefits of a CMS like WordPress, would like to build a custom ASP.NET site. Either way my current LAMP host is not secure so I'm looking to switch and looking for a reliable alternative. My ultimate wish list of requirements would be a cost-effective (currently spending ~$120/yr for web+domain hosting) host that would allow me to deploy my own ASP.NET code and host a WordPress blog (IIS w/ PHP to external MySQL or separate LAMP site). Thanks in advance for your recommendations (Google is not good for this type of search :-D) Edit: I'm fine if I have to ditch WordPress. Really I'm just looking for a good ASP.NET host, the WordPress compatibility would be a plus.

• Web Application Problems (web.config errors) HTTP 500.19 with IIS7.5 and ASP.NET v2

  This is driving the whole team crazy. There must be some simple mis-configured part of IIS or our Web Server, but every time we try to run out ASP.NET Web Application on IIS 7.5 we get the following error... Here's the error in full: HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. `Detailed Error Information` Module IIS Web Core Notification Unknown Handler Not yet determined Error Code 0x8007000d Config Error Config File \\?\E:\wwwroot\web.config Requested URL http://localhost:80/Default.aspx Physical Path Logon Method Not yet determined Logon User Not yet determined Config Source -1: 0: The machine is running Windows Server 2008 R2. We're developing our Web Application using Visual Studio 2008. According to Microsoft the code 8007000d means there's a syntax error in our web.config -- except the project builds and runs fine locally. Looking at the web.config in XML Notepad doesn't bring up any syntax errors, either. I'm assuming it must be some sort of poor configuration on my part...? Does anyone know where I might find further information about the error? Nothing is showing in EventViewer, either :( Not sure what else would be helpful to mention... Assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks! UPDATES! - POSTED WEB.CONFIG BELOW Ok, since I posted the original question above, I've tracked down the precise lines in the web.config that were causing the error. Here are the lines (they appear between <System.webServer> tags)... <httpHandlers> <remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/> <add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=f2cb5667dc123a56"/> </httpHandlers> Note: If I delete the lines between the <httpHandlers> I STILL get the error. I literally have to delete <httpHandlers> (and the lines inbetween) to stop getting the above error. Once I've done this I get a new 500.19 error, however. Thankfully, this time IIS actually tells me which bit of the web.config is causing a problem... <handlers> <remove name="WebServiceHandlerFactory-Integrated"/> <add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory,System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=f2cb5667dc123a56"/> <add name="ScriptHandlerFactoryAppServices" verb="*" path="*_AppService.axd" preCondition="integratedMode" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=f2cb5667dc123a56"/> <add name="ScriptResource" preCondition="integratedMode" verb="GET,HEAD" path="ScriptResource.axd" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler, System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=f2cb5667dc123a56"/> </handlers> Looking at these lines it's clear the problem has migrated further within the same <system.webServer> tag to the <handlers> tag. The new error is also more explicit and specifically complains that it doesn't recognize the attribute "validate" (as seen on the third line above). Removing this attribute then makes it complain that the same line doesn't have the required "name" attribute. Adding this attribute then brings up ASP.NET error... Could not load file or assembly 'System.web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=f2cb5667dc123a56' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Obviously I think these new errors have just arisen from me deleting the <httpHandlers> tags in the first place -- they're obviously needed by the application -- so the question remains: Why would these tags kick up an error in IIS in the first place??? Do I need to install something to IIS to make it work with them? Thanks again for any help. WEB.CONFIG Here's the troublesome bits of our web.Config...   I am trying to access Gmail's SMTP service from an ASP.NET MVC site running under Mono 2.4.2.3. • Passing parameters to telerik asp.net mvc grid

  I have a telerik asp.net mvc grid which needs to be populated based on the search criteria the user enters in separate text boxes. The grid is using ajax method to load itself initially as well as do paging. How can one pass the search parameters to the grid so that it sends those parameters "every time" it calls the ajax method in response to the user clicking on another page to go to the data on that page? I read the telerik's user guide but it does not mention this scenario. The only way I have been able to do above is by passing the parameters to the rebind() method on client side using jquery. The issue is that I am not sure if it is the "official" way of passing parameters which will always work even after updates. I found this method on this post on telerik's site: link text I have to pass in multiple parameters. The action method in the controller when called by the telerik grid runs the query again based on the search parameters. • ASP.NET PowerShell Impersonation

  I have developed an ASP.NET MVC Web Application to execute PowerShell scripts. I am using the VS web server and can execute scripts fine. However, a requirement is that users are able to execute scripts against AD to perform actions that their own user accounts are not allowed to do. Therefore I am using impersonation to switch the identity before creating the PowerShell runspace: Runspace runspace = RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace(config); var currentuser = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name; if (runspace.RunspaceStateInfo.State == RunspaceState.BeforeOpen) { runspace.Open(); } I have tested using a domain admin account and I get the following exception when calling runspace.Open(): Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Requested registry access is not allowed. The web application is running in full trust and I have explicitly added the account I am using for impersonation to the local administrators group of the machine (even though the domain admins group was already there). I'm using advapi32.dll LogonUser call to perform the impersonation in a similar way to this post (http://blogs.msdn.com/webdav_101/archive/2008/09/25/howto-calling-exchange-powershell-from-an-impersonated-thead.aspx) Any help appreciated as this is a bit of a show stopper at the moment.
