  • Creating an installer with WPF forms, packaged files and custom setup actions in C#

    I'm trying to create a way of deploying a set of tools (which are add-ins to 3rd party software) to my users. I would like to do the following: User Enters Serial Dlls in their directory structure is extracted to program files a file is copied to a location in ProgramData (this registers my add-ins to the 3rd party application) Online activation for software is performed Can anyone point me into the right direction for this? I had a look at deployment projects in Visual Studio but I'm not sure if they are what I'm after. Main problem is they are ugly, I would like to have a nice WPF installer, and have a more custom experience. But I guess that can be traded off if its going to make things easier. I was thinking, I could just make my own C# project that extracts the files, but I have no idea how to package them up and extract them all as part of one download (like the MSI files that the deployment projects create). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  • Plot smooth line with PyPlot

    I've got the following simple script that plots a graph: import matplotlib.pyplot as plt import numpy as np T = np.array([6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12]) power = np.array([1.53E+03, 5.92E+02, 2.04E+02, 7.24E+01, 2.72E+01, 1.10E+01, 4.70E+00]) plt.plot(T,power) plt.show() As it is now, the line goes straight from point to point which looks ok, but could be better in my opinion. What I want is to smooth the line between the points. In Gnuplot I would have plotted with smooth cplines. Is there an easy way to do this in PyPlot? I've found some tutorials, but they all seem rather complex.

  • Corsair Hackers Reboot

    It wasn't easy for me to attend but it was absolutely worth to go. The Linux User Group of Mauritius (LUGM) organised another get-together for any open source enthusiast here on the island. Strangely named "Corsair Hackers Reboot" but it stands for a positive cause: "Corsair Hackers Reboot Event A collaborative activity involving LUGM, UoM Computer Club, Fortune Way Shopping Mall and several geeks from around the island, striving to put FOSS into homes & offices. The public is invited to discover and explore Free Software & Open Source." And it was a good opportunity for me and the kids to visit the east coast of Mauritius, too. Perfect timing It couldn't have been better... Why? Well, for two important reasons (in terms of IT): End of support for Microsoft Windows XP - 08.04.2014 Release of Ubuntu 14.04 Long Term Support - 17.04.2014 Quite funnily, those two IT dates weren't the initial reasons and only during the weeks of preparations we put those together. And therefore it was even more positive to promote the use of Linux and open source software in general to a broader audience. Getting there ... Thanks to the new motor way M3 and all the additional road work which has been completed recently it was very simple to get across the island in a very quick and relaxed manner. Compared to my trips in the early days of living in Mauritius (and riding on a scooter) it was very smooth and within less than an hour we hit Centrale de Flacq. Well, being in the city doesn't necessarily mean that one has arrived at the destination. But thanks to modern technology I had a quick look on Google Maps, and we finally managed to get a parking behind the huge bus terminal in Flacq. From there it was just a short walk to Fortune Way. The children were trying to count the number of buses... Well, lots and lots of buses - really impressive actually. What was presented? There were different areas set up. Right at the entrance one's attention was directly drawn towards the elevated hacker's stage. Similar to rock stars performing their gig there was bunch of computers, laptops and networking equipment in order to cater the right working conditions for coding/programming challenge(s) on the one hand and for the pen-testing or system hacking competition on the other hand. Personally, I was very impresses that actually Nitin took care of the pen-testing competition. He hardly started one year back with Linux in general, and Kali Linux specifically. Seeing his personal development from absolute newbie to a decent Linux system administrator within such a short period of time, is really impressive. His passion to open source software made him a living. Next, clock-wise seen, was the Kid's Corner with face-painting as the main attraction. Additionally, there were numerous paper print outs to colour. Plus a decent workstation with the educational suite GCompris. Of course, my little ones were into that. They already know GCompris since a while as they are allowed to use it on an IGEL thin client terminal here at home. To simplify my life, I set up GCompris as full-screen guest session on the server, and they can pass the login screen without any further obstacles. And because it's a thin client hooked up to a XDMCP remote session I don't have to worry about the hardware on their desk, too. The next section was the main attraction of the event: BYOD - Bring Your Own Device Well, compared to the usual context of BYOD the corsairs had a completely different intention. Here, you could bring your own laptop and a team of knowledgeable experts - read: geeks and so on - offered to fully convert your system on any Linux distribution of your choice. And even though I came later, I was told that the USB pen drives had been in permanent use. From being prepared via dd command over launching LiveCD session to finally installing a fresh Linux system on bare metal. Most interestingly, I did a similar job already a couple of months ago, while upgrading an existing Windows XP system to Xubuntu 13.10. So far, the female owner is very happy and enjoys her system almost every evening to go shopping online, checking mails, and reading latest news from the Anime world. Back to the Hackers event, Ish told me that they managed approximately 20 conversion during the day. Furthermore, Ajay and others gladly assisted some visitors with some tricky issues and by the end of the day you can call is a success. While I was around, there was a elderly male visitor that got a full-fledged system conversion to a Linux system running completely in French language. A little bit more to the centre it was Yasir's turn to demonstrate his Arduino hardware that he hooked up with an experimental electrical circuit board connected to an LCD matrix display. That's the real spirit of hacking, and he showed some minor adjustments on the fly while demo'ing the system. Also, very interesting there was a thermal sensor around. Personally, I think that platforms like the Arduino as well as the Raspberry Pi have a great potential at a very affordable price in order to bring a better understanding of electronics as well as computer programming to a broader audience. It would be great to see more of those experiments during future activities. And last but not least there were a small number of vendors. Amongst them was Emtel - once again as sponsor of the general internet connectivity - and another hardware supplier from Riche Terre shopping mall. They had a good collection of Android related gimmicks, like a autonomous web cam that can convert any TV with HDMI connector into an online video chat system given WiFi. It's actually kind of awesome to have a Skype or Google hangout video session on the big screen rather than on the laptop. Of course, face painting had to be done prior to hacking... LUGM: Nadim demoing some Linux specifics to interested visitors. Everyone was pretty busy during the whole day LUGM: The hacking competition, here pen-testing a wireless connection and access point between multiple machines LUGM: Well prepared workstations to be able to 'upgrade' visitors' machines to any Linux operating system Final thoughts Gratefully, during the preparations of the event I was invited to leave some comments or suggestions, and the team of the LUGM did a great job. The outdoor banner was a eye-catcher, the various flyers and posters for the event were clearly written and as far as I understood from the quick chats I had with Ish, Nadim, Nitin, Ajay, and of course others all were very happy about the event execution. Great job, LUGM! And I'm already looking forward to the next Corsair Hackers Reboot event ...   • Problem creating PostGIS template database

    I am trying to build a template geographic database for PostGIS (1.5) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) for my GeoDjango application. I am following: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/install/#creating-a-spatial-database-template-for-postgis I've managed to come up to the point where the provided postgis.sql should be run (i.e. psql -d template_postgis -f $POSTGIS_SQL_PATH/postgis.sql) At that point I am getting an error at the first SQL statement that is tried to be run.   • how to set breakpoint on function in a shared library which has not been loaded in gdb

    Hi, I have a shared library libtest.so which will be loaded into the the main program using dlopen. Function test() reside in libtest.so and will be called in the main program through dlsym. Is there any way I could set up a break point on test? Please note that the main programm has not been linked to libtest.so during linking time. Otherwise , I should be able to set the break point although it is a pending action. In my case, when I do b test, gdb will tell me Function "test" not defined.

  • How do you implement position-sensitive zooming inside a JScrollPane?

    I am trying to implement position-sensitive zooming inside a JScrollPane. The JScrollPane contains a component with a customized 'paint' that will draw itself inside whatever space it is allocated - so zooming is as easy as using a MouseWheelListener that resizes the inner component as required. But I also want zooming into (or out of) a point to keep that point as central as possible within the resulting zoomed-in (or -out) view (this is what I refer to as 'position-sensitive' zooming), similar to how zooming works in google maps. I am sure this has been done many times before - does anybody know the "right" way to do it under Java Swing?. Would it be better to play with Graphic2D's transformations instead of using JScrollPanes?   • Developing Silverlight 1.0 Applications on VS2008 SP1

    Hi, Can anyone point me to any guides, howto's or general documentation on how to develop Silverlight 1.0 (it has to be 1.0) on VS2008 SP1. I have searched high and low for information, and it all seems to be out of date (referencing Silverlight 1.0 Tools for Visual Studio 2008 beta, release candidate and alpha packages) or just plain doesn't work under VS2008 SP1. What do I need to install, and which project do I need to create? I have installed the Silverlight 1.0 SDK, which gave me no starting point, the Silverlight 2.0 Tools for Visual Studio after a website suggested you could use that to develop 1.0 apps, but the suggested template doesn't exist, and Silverlight 3.0 Tools for Visual Studio, which was a last ditch resort.   • Using a "local" S3 emulation layer as a replacement for HDFS?

    I have been testing out the most recent Cloudera CDH4 hadoop-conf-pseudo (i.e. MRv2 or YARN) on a notebook, which has 4 cores, 8GB RAM, an Intel X25MG2 SSD, and runs a S3 emulation layer my colleagues and I wrote in C++. The OS is Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64bit. So far so good. Looking at Setting up hadoop to use S3 as a replacement for HDFS, I would like to do it on my notebook. Nevertheless, I can't find where I can change the jets3t.properties for setting the end point to localhost. I downloaded the hadoop-2.0.1-alpha.tar.gz and searched the source without finding out a clue. There is a similar Q on SO Using s3 as fs.default.name or HDFS?, but I want to use our own lightweight and fast S3 emulation layer, instead of AWS S3, for our experiments. I would appreciate a hint as to how I can change the end point to a different hostname. Regards, --Zack

  • ServiceController.Stop() doesn't appear to be stopping anything

    My dev box is a Windows 7 (x64) machine. I've got some code (C#, .net 2.0) that in certain circumstances, checks to see if a service is running and then stops it. ServiceController matchedService = //My Service! //If statements and such matchedService.Stop(); matchedService.WaitForStatus(ServiceControllerStatus.Stopped); Now, I can verify MyService is in fact installed and running. I can tell you I am running Visual Studio 2008 as an administrator while debugging. I can also verify that after a couple of If statements, I wind up at the .Stop() and .WaitForStatus() portion of the programming. I do know that if step over the .Stop() call, the service itself just keeps running (looking at it in Services, though it occurs to me perhaps I should grab a better tool for this. I'm sure there's some sysinternals tool that might give me more information). As I step over the .WaitForStatus() call, I basically wind up waiting for the stopped status. . . forever. Well, I let it sit there for over 15 minutes yesterday (twice) and nothing happens. We never make it to the next line of code. It feels exactly like Bowie's Space Oddity (you know the part I am talking about). There's a lotta things about MyService you don't know anything about. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't. . . let me state this plainly. No services depend on MyService and MyService depends on no other services. Addendum MyOtherService and SonOfMyService both seem to behave correctly at this point in the code. All of these services share the same characteristics (they're our own services we hatched in a secret lab and have no dependencies). Is it possible there is something wrong with the MyService install or something? I do know that if I stop debugging at this point, MyService is still listed as running in Services (even after hitting refresh). If I try to restart it then (or run my application again and get to this point), I get a message about it not being able to accept control messages. After that, the service shows up as stopped and I can start it normally. Why isn't the service being stopped? Is this a quirk of win 7? A failing on my part to understand the ServiceController, or Win Services in general?

  • Google maps nearest points avoiding rivers / by itinerary

    Here is the deal : I need to find the closest points from a point with a radius. For example, I need to get all the points in a 15 km radius. Thats easy with Google Maps Radius and all the examples on the web ;) The problem is that from my office, a point is under the 15km radius, but it's on the other side of a river, so the car itinerary is about 30 km (using a bridge)! Is there a simple solution to exclude those points or to calculate by intineraries ? I supposed that I'll need to calculate all itineraries with returned points? DirectionsRequest API? Thanks! :)

  • Ad-Hoc mode and Cell (how does it work)?

    hello, I am setting up a wireless Ad-Hoc network manually in linux using iwconfig and ifconfig. I have gotten everything working, and I think I understand it all except access point. The part that confused me is this: If I have essid='some_id', channel=11, Mode=Ad-Hoc and appropriate routing/ip on both laptops, why do I need to make sure the Cell is the same? I was under the impression that Ad-Hoc worked independently of the access point. I can easily get around this, I just use iwconfig wlan0 ap 00:00:00:00:00:01 Why is this necessary? I've been unable to find a good tutorial on this. If anyone can clear this up I'd appreciate it. Thanks

    Lets say I have this class (simplified): class Tag (...): children = models.ManyToManyField(null=True, symmetrical=False) Now I already implemented the functions get_parents, get_all_ancestors. Is there a nice pythonic way to just the top level tags? If I had designed my Tags differently (to point to the parents instead) I would just make get_all_parents().filter(children=null). My first thought is to create a new function that will go recursively through all parents and save those that has none. But is there a possibility with filters or Query-objects to do the same (with fewer lines of code)? Thanks for your help. [edit] When it is finished, it should be a hierarchical tagging system. Each tag can have children, parents, but only the children are saved. I want to get all the top level tags, that point through many children / childrens children to my tag.

Title="{Binding Name}"> C# public TablePage() { this.DataContext = new Table() { Name = "Finding Table" }; InitializeComponent(); } Getting a ag_e_parser_bad_property_value error in InitializeComponent at the point where the title binding is happening. I've tried adding static text which works fine. If I use binding anywhere else eg: <TextBlock Text="{Binding Name}"/> This doesn't work either. I'm guessing it's complaining because the DataContext object isn't set but if I put in a break point before the InitializeComponent I can confirm it is populated and the Name property is set. Any ideas?

    I would like to 'shrink-to-fit' an std::vector, to reduce its capacity to its exact size, so that additional memory is freed. The standard trick seems to be the one described here: template< typename T, class Allocator > void shrink_capacity(std::vector<T,Allocator>& v) { std::vector<T,Allocator>(v.begin(),v.end()).swap(v); } The whole point of shrink-to-fit is to save memory, but doesn't this method first create a deep copy and then swaps the instances? So at some point -- when the copy is constructed -- the memory usage is doubled? If that is the case, is there a more memory-friendly method of shrink-to-fit? (In my case the vector is really big and I cannot afford to have both the original plus a copy of it in memory at any time.)

    I'm queuing messages to a WebSphere MQ queue (NB: A point-to-point queue -- not a topic) using a stored procedure in my Oracle database. Is there a way to publish each message to multiple queues with a single call? What I would like is to find a solution that would incur zero additional latency on my database compared to sending the message to a single queue. Solutions that involve changing my WebSphere MQ settings are certainly welcome! What I had in mind was somehow creating a "clone" queue that got all the same messages as the original one, but I've been unable to locate anything like this in the documentation. Thanks, Jeff

  • How do I use texture-mapping in a simple ray tracer?

    I am attempting to add features to a ray tracer in C++. Namely, I am trying to add texture mapping to the spheres. For simplicity, I am using an array to store the texture data. I obtained the texture data by using a hex editor and copying the correct byte values into an array in my code. This was just for my testing purposes. When the values of this array correspond to an image that is simply red, it appears to work close to what is expected except there is no shading. The bottom right of the image shows what a correct sphere should look like. This sphere's colour using one set colour, not a texture map. Another problem is that when the texture map is of something other than just one colour pixels, it turns white. My test image is a picture of water, and when it maps, it shows only one ring of bluish pixels surrounding the white colour.     I'm doing some research, and looking to create a simple on-line business card creator. I need to give users the ability to pick a business card template and then update the text with their own information. Then I need to create a PDF proof for the user to sign off on, as well as create a hi-rez pdf for print. Can anyone point me in the right direction?   • Why aren't these shared_ptrs pointing to the same container?

    I have a class Model: class Model { ... boost::shared_ptr<Deck> _deck; boost::shared_ptr<CardStack> _stack[22]; }; Deck inherits from CardStack. I tried to make _stack[0] point to the same thing that _deck points to by going: { _deck = boost::shared_ptr<Deck>(new Deck()); _stack[0] = _deck; } It seems that the assignment to _deck of _stack[0] results in a copy of _deck being made. How can I get them to point to the same thing?

    I have a dilemma. I've used DI (read: factory) to provide core components for a homebrew ORM. The container provides database connections, DAO's,Mappers and their resultant Domain Objects on request. Here's a basic outline of the Mappers and Domain Object classes class Mapper{ public function __constructor($DAO){ $this->DAO = $DAO; } public function load($id){ if(isset(Monitor::members[$id]){ return Monitor::members[$id]; $values = $this->DAO->selectStmt($id); //field mapping process omitted for brevity $Object = new Object($values); return $Object; } } class User(){ public function setName($string){ $this->name = $string; //mark modified by means fair or foul } } The ORM also contains a class (Monitor) based on the Unit of Work pattern i.e. class Monitor(){ private static array modified; private static array dirty; public function markClean($class); public function markModified($class); } The ORM class itself simply co-ordinates resources extracted from the DI container. So, to instantiate a new User object: $Container = new DI_Container; $ORM = new ORM($Container); $User = $ORM->load('user',1); //at this point the container instantiates a mapper class //and passes a database connection to it via the constructor //the mapper then takes the second argument and loads the user with that id $User->setName('Rumpelstiltskin');//at this point, User must mark itself as "modified" My question is this. At the point when a user sets values on a Domain Object class, I need to mark the class as "dirty" in the Monitor class. I have one of three options as I can see it 1: Pass an instance of the Monitor class to the Domain Object. I noticed this gets marked as recursive in FirePHP - i.e. $this-Monitor-markModified($this) 2: Instantiate the Monitor directly in the Domain Object - does this break DI? 3: Make the Monitor methods static, and call them from inside the Domain Object - this breaks DI too doesn't it? What would be your recommended course of action (other than use an existing ORM, I'm doing this for fun...)
