• WTL CSplitterWindow cannot create more than 3 instances?

  Hello all, I'm using WTL to create a window containing many splitted panes. The following will be the result. --------------------------- | | | | | | | | | | | | | |-------------------- | | | | | | | | --------------------------- There will be 4 splitters, three vertical ones and a horizontal one. I followed the great article : http://www.codeproject.com/KB/wtl/wtl4mfc7.aspx. But I only can add 3 splitters as below. --------------------------- | | | | | | | | | | | | | |-------------------- | | | | | | --------------------------- I tried a lot of ways but still cannot add the last one. • Right-Align and Vertical Align label with checkbox/radio button CSS

  Hi Everyone, I'm very close and have this working in Safari, Firefox and IE8, however IE7 the labels and radio buttons do not align vertically. Thanks! EDIT: Based on the suggestion to check the rest of my html and css. I updated the code above and now it accurately demonstrates the problem. If I take font-size out of #master-container it lines up but then it is not the proper font-size. I tried to add a font-size to ul.inputlist li input but that didn't help. Any suggestions? • Sharepoint.OpenDocuments Control Compatible with Forms Authentication?

  We are using the Sharepoint.OpenDocuments.EditDocument2 ActiveX control and method. The method is being called from JavaScript in an IE6 client on a Windows XP SP3 client (fully patched). The server is running IIS6 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 Fronting the IIS server is Tivoli Access Manager (TAM) which proxies access to the web applications sitting behind it. Similar to forms authentication, it creates a session cookie for authentication purposes, that must be present for the HTTP request to reach the IIS server. In front of TAM is an F5/BigIP load balancer and SSL encryption offloader, which enforces that incoming requests use the HTTPS protocol. What is happening is that HTTP requests issued by this control do not contain any session cookies that were present in the browser. It drops the ASP.NET session cookie, the ASP.NET forms authentication cookie and the TAM cookie Because the TAM cookie is missing the request is redirected to the TAM login page, which then shows up via HTML conversion in Word or Excel. The API documentation at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms440037.aspx mentions nothing about security or appropriate usage scenarios for this control. Should these controls work in an ASP.Net Forms Authentication scenario or are they only supported with Windows Authentication. If Forms Authentication is supposed to function, how do we get the control to include the necessary session cookies in its requests?

• UITableViewCell imageView.contentMode doesn't work in 3.0

  In UITableViewCellStyleDefault, setting the contentMode on the imageView has no result. If I change my build SDK to version 3.1, everything again works. I don't get any warnings or errors when compiling on 3.0 but this code: cell.imageView.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit; cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:[[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@head.jpg",[gametype objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]]lowercaseString]]; seems to default to the UIViewContentModeCenter, so all of my pictures exceed the cell boundaries and encroach on neighboring cells. Let me reiterate that if I change my target to 3.1 everything works correctly and all pictures are scaled accordingly to fit in the default imageView Is this a known bug?

• FLEX: Make LineChart DATATIP constrain to vertical axis.

  When making a line chart, Lets say its for business sales for different depts and horizontally is days and vertically is dollars. When you hover over a line it tells a dataTip tells you the sales for that dept. on that day. I want it to show all the depts at the same time, so say you hover over day 3, I want the dataTips for all depts on day 3 to display so you can compare the values for all the sales on the same day. I set the mouseSensitivity for the dataTips to display all the lines at once but I end up getting day 2 for one dept and day 3 for another which is not wanted. This is actually posted as a bug and explained better here: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FLEXDMV-1853 I am wondering if anyone can come up with a work-around for this? Thanks!

Assuming the vast majority of users here are professional software engineers which need some sort of income source, I assume most of us hold stable, money-making jobs. So who are the key players in the open source community? Who are the people which devote their precious time to these projects? What is their benefit? Are the majority just people who see a bug, fix it, submit, and forget about the project? Or are they people constantly involved in the process of building the product? How do you find yourself contributing to open source projects?

• Internet Explorer 8 timeout too quick on page POSTs

  We have an asp.net site running, which has been working fine for some time, but recently I have been experiencing some issues with IE8. On posting some pages - mainly on our development server, although on staging too - we get an occasional "Internet Explore cannot display the webpage" error along with the button asking to diagnose connection problems. IE only seems to wait 10 seconds before timing out. I know that the page itself may take longer to load the first time (on dev and staging). So press F5 and everything then works fine. Is there anything that should be done in the aspx page to tell IE to wait a bit longer? I thought I had read that the default timeout supposed to be 90 seconds or something for browsers. A bit more info: It mostly happens on a POSTing a signup page, but that is just because I test that page and it starts the IIS App, makes the first connection to SQL and pre-caches some information. That first time the page can take 10-15 seconds to come back. IE8 times out after 10 seconds as it has had nothing back. This happens on a dev W7x64 machine with 8GB RAM, as well as on a staging server WIN2008. Having googled around a bit, some people are seeing the same problem, but no conclusive pointers to the problem or a solution. It isn't a connection problem; everything works fine in Firefox, Chrome and even IE7; I have tried with add-ons disabled and resetting IE settings, still happens. Ideas welcome.

• Git diff gone mad?

  I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my local Git repo. I edit a file. Git reports everything has changed in the file (I only changed one line) At first I think "must be a newline problem", but it's not. I do a diff in TortoiseGit, everything looks fine. I do a diff with Netbeans (git plugin), everything seems fine. I do a reset, backup the file, modify it, git again reports everything has changed. I do a binary compare in Total Commander, the files have no differences except for the single line I changed. I do a hard reset again. Git tells me it was done successfully. Git status still says my file has changed. I diff the thing and there are no differences - bug git says there are. I've tried using both git bash and gui, with same results (I'm on Windows). Any clues, what's going on here?

• Why don't web fonts in Firefox work on a different domain?

  I was experimenting with the fancy new OpenType font capability in Firefox 3.5 and I ran into a problem. I was trying to embed a font on a different domain than the page it would be used on, and it didn't work. I thought it may have been a bug, but from what I read on the MDC reference page, I noticed this note: In Gecko, web fonts are subject to the same domain restriction (font files must be on the same domain as the page using them), unless HTTP access controls are used to relax this restriction. It looks like they designed the browser that way on purpose. Out of curiosity, why would they do that? Is there any security risk with embedding a font? Or is it for legal trademark or copyright issues? Or something else?

• Javascript "Member not found" error in IE8

  I'm trying to debug the following block of Javascript code to see what the issue is. I'm getting an error that says "Member not found" on the line constructor = function() { in the extend:function() method. • Is this possible? Overflow-y:visible with overflow-x:scroll/auto

  We have a problem in our team which we cannot solve :/ We made our own Grid control. When you click on the icon next to column name, the pop-up div (call it divFilter) appears and you can set filtering there. There can be dynamically generated div for each column so we can have f.e 5 divFilters in 5 different places. It works, but the only problem is that when there is for example 1-2 records on the Grid, the pop-up div will be displayed under horizontal scroll of div. We've tried with z-index but it looks like that won't work. We can set overflow:visible but we also need that horizontal scroll(our grids have up to 50 columns). We thought that we can solve it buy setting overflow-y visible and overflow-x:scroll but according to our tests and that page: http://www.brunildo.org/test/Overflowxy2.html it isn't possible(for IE7,IE8). I've also found this similar question CSS overflow-y:visible, overflow-x:scroll ,but our pop-up div must be position:absolute, because we need to position them under columns. Any ideas or workaround to it? Is it even possible to set it only with CSS without using Javascript(for dynamically changing gridview hight etc.). Thanks!!

• error executing aapt, all of the sudden

  I know there are a lot of these topics around but none seem to help in my case, nor describe it exactly. The best similar one is aapt not found under the right path. My problem is that I can be using Eclipse for a whole evening programming, compiling and using my device, and then suddenly I get "error executing aapt" for my current project and ofcourse R.java isn't (properly) generated anymore. I then restart Eclipse and everything goes away. I'm seeing this once a day on average however. I've recently switched to amd64 and installed the latest Android-2.3 SDK and matching tools. I know that there is now a platform-tools folder that has an aapt version that should work SDK version independently. At first I had added this directory to my PATH, as instructed on the SDK website. I've also tried not adding it to my path and making a link platforms/android-9/tools so that every SDK version might use it's own old copy. Needless to say, platform-tools/aapt is there and has the right permissions, and I have been able to execute it on the command-line at any time. When I do write a faulty xml file or sorts, and appropriately get an error, I see an extra line that says "aapt: /lib32/libz.so.1: no version information available". I'm running a recent Gentoo linux system. I have everything installed to support x86 on amd64, but have re-emerged emul-linux-x86-baselibs and zlib just to be sure. The problem persists. I do see some pages that spell horror over some zlib bugs, but I'm not sure if that's related. I realize I'm not on the reference Ubuntu platform, but surely the difference cannot be that great? It might very well be a bug in aapt or the tools itself. Why would it suddenly stop working? I also experience that the ids in R.java were incorrect, namely that simple findViewById() code would give ClassCastExceptions because of mixed ids the one time, and then work perfectly without any changes bu only a "clean project", in the aftermath of a failing aapt. When I recently was trying to export a signed apk, I ran into another error message (full details from the Eclipse error view) regarding aapt I hadn't seen before. Note here too, that I can just restart Eclipse and can export apks again without problems, at least for a little while. I'm starting to think it is related to lack of memory on my system. The message "onvoldoende geheugen beschikbaar" means "insufficient memory available". I have also been seeing insufficient memory errors in DDMS when I'm dumping HPROF files. • applet does not load

  We have a legacy program that was ported from Java 1.3 to Java 1.5. This application involves applets which worked fine before. After porting however, the applet would not load. However there are no errors or exceptions. The app would just try to load it forever. We tried to run it with Java 1.6 and poof! No problems whatsoever. Isn't Java 6 backwards compatible? • Getting XML parse error in coldfusion. Can the packet returned be validated?

  Getting an error on occasion on a specific CF page. Offending code listed below. Very odd because when I rebooted CF it went away. Can the XML be checked via XMLValidate to prevent this from happening? Is this some sort of CF bug since the error disappeared after reboot of CF? I have a feeling that the error will resurface at some point. An error occured while Parsing an XML document. At the moment I'm using a Logitech Wave for my Windows need and an Apple Wireless Keyboard (the one without a numeric keypad) when doing OS X stuff. I'm quite happy with the Logitech Wave but I would prefer one without all the extra multimedia buttons. What I like most about the Apple Wireless Keyboard is that it is very similar to the Macbook's keyboard which for me makes it easier to write code when on my Macbook. What kind of keyboard would you recommend for going all out writing code until your fingers bleed? I have remapped the Caps Lock key to Ctrl which after a while feels really good, until I have to sit at another computer or when someone at work is going to show me something on my computer. Are there other little keyboard tricks that you use to get a little bit more productive? I have looked into switching to Dvorak but I have decided it's not for me.

• IE8 window.opener problems

  Having problems with IE8... I have a button that onclick fires the showImageBrowser() function. function showImageBrowser(params) { var open = window.open('http://localhost/admin/browse?'+params,'newwin','toolbar=0,location=0,directories=0,status=1,menubar=0,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=950,height=500'); if (!open) { alert('Could not open the image browser, please disable your popup blocker.'); } } Now in the image browser when you click on an image it calls this function: function selectFile(url, el) { window.opener.replaceImage('Test_Image', url); window.close(); } Which is calling the replaceImage() function in the parent window, as expeted. This is the code: function replaceImage(el, url) { $('#'+el).html('<a href="'+url+'" target="_blank" class="image">'+basename(url)+'</a>'); $("input[name='"+el+"']").val(url); } Now if you click on the original showImageBrowser() button for the second time, IE will bring up the window but this time it freezes for a few seconds and then you get the alert "Could not open the image browser, please disable your popup blocker." This works fine in Firefox (obviously) but not in IE. I haven't even tried it in IE7/6 because if it doesn't work in 8 then I know I'm going to have problems. Any advice?

• Can compiler optimization introduce bugs ?

  Hi, Today I had a discussion with a friend of mine and we debated for a couple of hours about "compiler optimization". I defended the point that sometimes, a compiler optimization might introduce bugs or at least, undesired behavior. My friend totally disagreed, saying that "compiler are built by smart people and do smart things" and thus, can never go wrong. He didn't convinced my at all, but I have to admit I lack of real-life examples to strengthen my point. Who is right here ? If I am, do you have any real-life example where a compiler optimization produced a bug in the resulting software ? If I'm mistaking, should I stop programming and learn fishing instead ? • Alpha transparent PNGs not displaying correctly in Mobile Safari

  I'm using some semi-transparent PNGs as background-images on various websites. These are usually something like a 1x1 image with a 30-percent opaque white layer. I've noticed that Mobile Safari does not display them correctly, giving them a darker/grayish tint. I've created a couple test pages to illustrate. View them both in your normal browser, and then on Mobile Safari, and you should see what I mean. (Here's how I create the PNGs: In Photoshop, create a 1x1 transparent canvas. Draw a white rectangle in Layer 1. Set opacity to, say 30 percent, Save for Web as 24-bit PNG with transparency.)

  Hi guys, I have another question. XMLhttpRequests haunt me. Everything is now in the database but I need this data to update my page on firt page load or reload. The XHR is triggered in JavaScript file which triggers PHP-Script. PHP-Script access MySQL database. But how do I get the fetched records back into my JavaScript for page update. I can not figure it out. • Grails easygrid plugin, Datatable implementation

  I'm playing with the datatable implementation in the Easygrid plugin and I have to say i love it but I have a question . If i use datatable directly (ie outside of Easygrid) to decorate a table i get a global search box defined above my table . If i use the Easygrid implementation and define my grid in a controller I get filters added for each column but no search box - it is added but then removed somehow either by easygrid itself or some parameter passed to datatable . How can I restore the search box and is this a bug as i would have thought the default implementation of datatable supplied via easygrid should match the default implementation supplied by the vanilla datatable itself? I'm using Grails 2.3.7 and Easygrid 1.6.2 .. Thanks

• How to determine which dijit.layout.AccordionPane is currently selected

  Hi there, I tried to use "dijit.layout.AccordionPane.selected" to determine if any given AccordionPane is in focus (selected). However, AccordionPane.selected property will be set to "True" once the AccordionPane is selected, and AccordionPane.selected stays as "True" even other dijit.layout.AccordionPane is selected. So in other words, if I have 3 AccordionPanes, after I clicked on all 3 of them, AccordionPane.selected property for all 3 of them are "True" now. Is this a bug, or there is other ways to determine which AccordionPane is currently being selected (in focus)? Thanks in advance! David

• Installing Win32 shared SxS policy via WiX 3.0 MSM fails for 2nd app

  I am attempting to author a merge module for use by multiple application installers to install a Win32 Shared SxS Assembly and its associated Policy. I'm using WiX 3.0 to generate the MSM and test MSIs. So far it works fine for the first app installer that runs … but the second app installer fails because the Policy file already exists (HRESULT: 0x800700B7). What requirement(s) for correct Win32 Shared SxS Policy installation am I missing? I have submitted WiX bug 3005301 for this (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=642714&aid=3005301&group_id=105970) and posted VS2008 projects that reproduce the problem. • Implement 3270 protocol in Java

  I've got a big problem with IBM HACL for accessing a server which speaks 3270 protocol. The library keeps crashing, and our JNI wrapper is actually a bug-fixing layer for the poorly-implemented and poorly-documented library (and I suspect we have introduced new bugs with it too). Moreover, in our company, everybody knows Java, and could maintain the software if we didn't have the JNI-Layer and the IBM class library. We have to use the C++ class library, because the IBM Java library is unusable: we get every non-printable character translated, and we lose all control characters along the way. Now the question is: can we ditch this library and implement our solution in Java completely (we'd like to avoid using another library from another vendor)? Is the protocol well documented? Is the implementation of 3270-over-ssl really so complex? Thanks.

• How to Implement Loose Coupling with a SOA Architecture

  I've been doing a lot of research lately about SOA and ESB's etc. I'm working on redesigning some legacy systems at work now and would like to build it with more of a SOA architecture than it currently has. We use these services in about 5 of our websites and one of the biggest problems we have right now with our legacy system is that almost all the time when we make bug fixes or updates we need to re-deploy our 5 websites which can be a quite time consuming process. My goal is to make the interfaces between services loosely coupled so that changes can be made without having to re-deploy all the dependent services and websites. I need the ability to extend an already existing service interface without breaking or updating any of its dependencies. Have any of you encountered this problem before? How did you solve it?
