  • Python Bitstream implementations

    - by Danielb
    I am writing a huffman implementation in Python as a learning exercise. I have got to the point of writing out my variable length huffman codes to a buffer (or file). Only to find there does not seem to be a bitstream class implemented by Python! I have had a look at the array and struct modules but they do not seem to do what I need without extra work. A bit of goggling turned up this bitstream implementation, which is more like what I am wanting. Is there really no comparable bitstream class in the Python standard library?

  • iPhone filesystem permissions POSIX-compliant?

    - by Seva Alekseyev
    Hi all, I'm trying to pass some files from one app to another. I communicate the path (via a custom URL). The target application cannot read the file, citing errno 13 (permission denied). I've checked the permissions on file - they're 0644 (O+R), the permissions on directories all the way up to the root are 755 (O+RX). From a POSIX perspective, the file should be readable to any process and any user. Yet it's not. Any ideas, please? I can think of some workarounds. I could use a Web service (upload, get a cookie, communicate the cookie to the other app, other app downloads). I could also pass the actual file data in the URL - unelegant, and probably subject to length limitations. Clipboard is not supported on iPhone OS 2 IIRC.

  • ng-grid get filtered column count after filtering

    - by Ryan Langton
    I'm using ng-grid with filtering. Any time the filter updates I want to get the filtered item count. I have been able to do this using the filteredRows property of ngGrid. However I'm getting the rows BEFORE the filtering occurs and I want them AFTER the filtering occurs. Here is a plunker to demonstrate the behavior: http://plnkr.co/edit/onyE9e?p=preview Here is the code where filtering is occuring: $scope.$watch('gridOptions.filterOptions.filterText2', function(searchText, oldsearchText) { if (searchText !== oldsearchText) { $scope.gridOptions.filterOptions.filterText = "name:" + searchText + "; "; $scope.recordCount = $scope.gridOptions.ngGrid.filteredRows.length; } });

  • jQuery autocomplete not always working on elements

    - by PoweRoy
    I'm trying to create a greasemonkey script (for Opera) to add autocomplete to input elements found on a webpage but it's not completely working. I first got the autocomplete plugin working: // ==UserScript== // @name autocomplete // @description autocomplete // @include * // ==/UserScript== // Add jQuery var GM_JQ = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ.src = 'http://jquery.com/src/jquery-latest.js'; GM_JQ.type = 'text/javascript'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ); var GM_CSS = document.createElement('link'); GM_CSS.rel = 'stylesheet'; GM_CSS.href = 'http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.css'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_CSS); var GM_JQ_autocomplete = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ_autocomplete.type = 'text/javascript'; GM_JQ_autocomplete.src = 'http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.js'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ_autocomplete); // Check if jQuery's loaded function GM_wait() { if(typeof window.jQuery == 'undefined') { window.setTimeout(GM_wait,100); } else { $ = window.jQuery; letsJQuery(); } } GM_wait(); function letsJQuery() { $("input[type='text']").each(function(index) { $(this).val("test autocomplete"); }); $("input[type='text']").autocomplete("http://mysite/jquery_autocomplete.php", { dataType: 'jsonp', parse: function(data) { var rows = new Array(); for(var i=0; i<data.length; i++){ rows[i] = { data:data[i], value:data[i], result:data[i] }; } return rows; }, formatItem: function(row, position, length) { return row; }, }); } I see the 'test autocomplete' but using the Opera debugger(firefly) I don't see any communication to my php page. (yes mysite is fictional, but it works here) Trying it on my own page: <body> no autocomplete: <input type="text" name="q1" id="script_1"><br> autocomplete on: <input type="text" name="q2" id="script_2" autocomplete="on"><br> autocomplete off: <input type="text" name="q3" id="script_3" autocomplete="off"><br> autocomplete off: <input type="text" name="q4" id="script_4" autocomplete="off"><br> </body> This works, but when trying on another pages it sometimes won't: e.g. http://spitsnieuws.nl/ works but http://nu.nl and http://dumpert.nl don't work. Trying the autocomplete of jquery ui has more problems: // ==UserScript== // @name autocomplete // @description autocomplete // @include * // ==/UserScript== // Add jQuery var GM_JQ = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ.src = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4/jquery.min.js'; GM_JQ.type = 'text/javascript'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ); var GM_CSS = document.createElement('link'); GM_CSS.rel = 'stylesheet'; GM_CSS.href = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/themes/base/jquery-ui.css'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_CSS); var GM_JQ_autocomplete = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ_autocomplete.type = 'text/javascript'; GM_JQ_autocomplete.src = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/jquery-ui.min.js'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ_autocomplete); // Check if jQuery's loaded function GM_wait() { if(typeof window.jQuery == 'undefined') { window.setTimeout(GM_wait,100); } else { $ = window.jQuery; letsJQuery(); } } GM_wait(); // All your GM code must be inside this function function letsJQuery() { $("input[type='text']").each(function(index) { $(this).val("test autocomplete"); }); $("input[type='text']").autocomplete({ source: function(request, response) { $.ajax({ url: "http://mysite/jquery_autocomplete.php", dataType: "jsonp", success: function(data) { response($.map(data, function(item) { return { label: item, value: item } })) } }) } }); } This will work on my html page, http://spitsnieuws.nl and http://dumpert.nl but not on http://nu.nl. (dumpert didn't work on the plugin autocomplete) //http://spitsnieuws.nl <input class="frmtxt ac_input" type="text" id="zktxt" name="query" autocomplete="off"> //http://dumpert.nl <input type="text" name="srchtxt" id="srchtxt"> //http://nu.nl <input id="zoekfield" name="q" type="text" value="Zoek nieuws" onfocus="this.select()" type="text"> Anyone know why the autocomplete functionality doesn't work? Why the request to the php page is not being made? And why I can't add my autocomplete to google.com?

  • Why is a fixed size buffers (arrays) must be unsafe?

    - by brickner
    Let's say I want to have a value type of 7 bytes (or 3 or 777). I can define it like that: public struct Buffer71 { public byte b0; public byte b1; public byte b2; public byte b3; public byte b4; public byte b5; public byte b6; } A simpler way to define it is using a fixed buffer public struct Buffer72 { public unsafe fixed byte bs[7]; } Of course the second definition is simpler. The problem lies with the unsafe keyword that must be provided for fixed buffers. I understand that this is implemented using pointers and hence unsafe. My question is why does it have to be unsafe? Why can't C# provide arbitrary constant length arrays and keep them as a value type instead of making it a C# reference type array or unsafe buffers?

  • printf field width : bytes or chars?

    - by leonbloy
    The printf/fprintf/sprintf family supports a width field in its format specifier. I have a doubt for the case of (non-wide) char arrays arguments: Is the width field supposed to mean bytes or characters? What is the (correct-de facto) behaviour if the char array corresponds to (say) a raw UTF-8 string? (I know that normally I should use some wide char type, that's not the point) For example, in char s[] = "ni\xc3\xb1o"; // utf8 encoded "niño" fprintf(f,"%5s",s); Is that function supposed to try to ouput just 5 bytes (plain C chars) (and you take responsability of misalignments or other problems if two bytes results in a textual characters) ? Or is it supposed to try to compute the length of "textual characters" of the array? (decodifying it... according to the current locale?) (in the example, this would amount to find out that the string has 4 unicode chars, so it would add a space for padding).

  • binary search and trio

    - by user121196
    given a large list of alphabetically sorted words in a file,I need to write a program that, given a word x, determines if x is in the list. priorties: 1. speed. 2. memory I already know I can use (n is number of words, m is average length of the words) 1. a tri, time is O(log(n)), space(best case) is O(log(n*m)), space(worst case) is O(n*m). 2. load the complete list into memory, then binary search, time is O(log(n)), space is O(n*m) I'm not sure about the complexity on tri, please correct me if they are wrong. Also are there other good approaches?

  • How to hide jQuery Sub-Menus(ddsmoothmenu)?

    - by Tim
    I'm new to jQuery and i must admit that i've understood nothing yet, the syntax appears to me as an unknown language although i thought that i had my experiences with javascript. Nevertheless i managed it to implement this menu in my asp.net masterpage's header. Even got it to work that the content-page is loaded with ajax with help from here. But finally i'm failing with the menu to disappear when the new page was loaded asynchronously. I dont know how to hide this accursed jQuery Menu. Following the part of the js-file where the events are registered for hiding/disappearing. I dont know how to get the part that is responsible for it and even i dont know how to implement that part in my Anchor-onclick function where i dont have a reference to the jQuery Object. buildmenu:function($, setting){ var smoothmenu=ddsmoothmenu var $mainmenu=$("#"+setting.mainmenuid+">ul") //reference main menu UL $mainmenu.parent().get(0).className=setting.classname || "ddsmoothmenu" var $headers=$mainmenu.find("ul").parent() $headers.hover( function(e){ $(this).children('a:eq(0)').addClass('selected') }, function(e){ $(this).children('a:eq(0)').removeClass('selected') } ) $headers.each(function(i){ //loop through each LI header var $curobj=$(this).css({zIndex: 100-i}) //reference current LI header var $subul=$(this).find('ul:eq(0)').css({display:'block'}) $subul.data('timers', {}) this._dimensions={w:this.offsetWidth, h:this.offsetHeight, subulw:$subul.outerWidth(), subulh:$subul.outerHeight()} this.istopheader=$curobj.parents("ul").length==1? true : false //is top level header? $subul.css({top:this.istopheader && setting.orientation!='v'? this._dimensions.h+"px" : 0}) $curobj.children("a:eq(0)").css(this.istopheader? {paddingRight: smoothmenu.arrowimages.down[2]} : {}).append( //add arrow images '<img src="'+ (this.istopheader && setting.orientation!='v'? smoothmenu.arrowimages.down[1] : smoothmenu.arrowimages.right[1]) +'" class="' + (this.istopheader && setting.orientation!='v'? smoothmenu.arrowimages.down[0] : smoothmenu.arrowimages.right[0]) + '" style="border:0;" />' ) if (smoothmenu.shadow.enable){ this._shadowoffset={x:(this.istopheader?$subul.offset().left+smoothmenu.shadow.offsetx : this._dimensions.w), y:(this.istopheader? $subul.offset().top+smoothmenu.shadow.offsety : $curobj.position().top)} //store this shadow's offsets if (this.istopheader) $parentshadow=$(document.body) else{ var $parentLi=$curobj.parents("li:eq(0)") $parentshadow=$parentLi.get(0).$shadow } this.$shadow=$('<div class="ddshadow'+(this.istopheader? Thanks, Tim EDIT: thanks to Starx' private-lesson in jQuery for beginners i solved it: I forgot the # in $("#smoothmenu1"). After that it was not difficult to find and call the hover-function from the menu's headers to let them fade out smoothly: $("#smoothmenu1").find("ul").hover(); Regards, Tim

  • How to handle empty return from getJSON

    - by Gee
    Alright so I have a php script which gets results from a DB, and to get those results I'm using a jQuery script to pull the results via getJSON. It works perfectly but now I want to do something if the php script returns no results (empty). I tried: $.getJSON('path/to/script'), {parameter:parameter}, function(data){ if (data) { alert('Result'); } else { alert('Empty); } }); But it's no good. I've tried different things like if (data.length) but still nothing. I've noticed that if there is no returned data the callback will never fire at all. So if that's the case, how do I handle a empty return?

  • KO 2.3.4 - Accessing validation array from callbacks in models

    - by kenny99
    Hi, Apologies if this is an oversight or sheer stupidity on my part but I can't quite figure out how to access the validation array from a callback in a model (using ORM and KO 2.3.4). I want to be able to add specific error messages to the validation array if a callback returns false. e.g This register method: public function register(array & $array, $save = FALSE) { // Initialise the validation library and setup some rules $array = Validation::factory($array) ->pre_filter('trim') ->add_rules('email', 'required', 'valid::email', array($this, 'email_available')) ->add_rules('confirm_email', 'matches[email]') ->add_rules('password', 'required', 'length[5,42]') ->add_rules('confirm_password', 'matches[password]'); return ORM::validate($array, $save); } Callback: public function email_available($value) { return ! (bool) $this->db ->where('email', $value) ->count_records($this->table_name); } I can obviously access the current model from the callback, but I was wondering what the best way to add custom error from the callback would be?

  • jquery html attribute not working in IE

    - by Gopal
    I am using country and state dropdowns in my form. Whenever the user selects the country in the dropdown, the respective states of the country will populate in the states dropdown. I am populating the states in the dropdown using ajax call. The problem is that the states get populated in Mozilla but it doesnt work in IE. I guess there is some problem in jquery while loading the states in the states dropdown. The jquery code i am using is $('select#edit-country').change(function(e) { $.getJSON("loadContactUsStates",{id: $(this).val(), ajax: 'true'}, function(j){ var options = ''; for (var i = 0; i < j.length; i++) { options += '<option value="' + j[i].optionValue + '">' + j[i].optionDisplay + '</option>'; } <!-----I guess the problem is with the below line------------------> $("select#edit-state").html(options); })//end json });

  • Proper way to set object instance variables

    - by ensnare
    I'm writing a class to insert users into a database, and before I get too far in, I just want to make sure that my OO approach is clean: class User(object): def setName(self,name): #Do sanity checks on name self._name = name def setPassword(self,password): #Check password length > 6 characters #Encrypt to md5 self._password = password def commit(self): #Commit to database >>u = User() >>u.setName('Jason Martinez') >>u.setPassword('linebreak') >>u.commit() Is this the right approach? Should I declare class variables up top? Should I use a _ in front of all the class variables to make them private? Thanks for helping out.

  • How invoke live method with arguments

    - by dorelal
    I am learning how to write jQuery plugin. So why I am doing what I am doing does not matter. I writing a plugin called live2 which does nothing else but internally calls live method. (function($) { $.fn.live2 = function() { /* if there are no elements then just return */ if (!this.length) return this; return this.each(function() { var $this = $(this); jQuery.fn.live.apply(this, arguments); }); // end of return this.each(function()) }; // end of plugin })(jQuery); Above code should be invoked just live any live method. Instead of live use live2. $('#container').live2('click',function(){ return false; }) But the plugin is not working. Any idea what the fix should be.

  • python: how to jump to a particular line in a huge text file?

    - by photographer
    Are there any alternatives to the code below: startFromLine = 141978 # or whatever line I need to jump to urlsfile = open(filename, "rb", 0) linesCounter = 1 for line in urlsfile: if linesCounter > startFromLine: DoSomethingWithThisLine(line) linesCounter += 1 if I'm processing a huge text file (~15MB) with lines of unknown but different length, and need to jump to a particular line which number I know in advance? I feel bad by processing them one by one when I know I could ignore at least first half of the file. Looking for more elegant solution if there is any.

  • How do chains work in Rainbow tables?

    - by James Moore
    Hello, I was wondering if should one could explain in detail how chains work in rainbow tables as though you would a complete novice but with relevance to programming. I understand that a chain is 16 bytes long. 8 bytes mark the starting point and 8 mark the end. I also understand that in the filename we have the chain length i.e. 2400. Which means that between our starting point and end point in just 16 bytes we have 2400 possible clear texts? What? How does that work? in those 16 bytes how do i get my 2400 hashes and clear texts or am i miss understanding this? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks P.s. I have read the related papers and googled this topic a fair bit. I think im just missing something important to make these gears turn.

  • When should you use intermediate variables for expressions?

    - by froadie
    There are times that one writes code such as this: callSomeMethod(someClass.someClassMethod()); And other times when one would write the same code like this: int result = someClass.someClassMethod(); callSomeMethod(result); This is just a basic example to illustrate the point. My question isn't if you should use an intermediate variable or not, as that depends on the code and can sometimes be a good design decision and sometimes a terrible one. The question is - when would you choose one method over the other? What factors would you consider when deciding whether to use an intermediate step? (I'd assume length and understandability of the fully inlined code would have something to do with it...)

Thank you very much, already in advance, Werner model.processingData = out; if (model.selectedIndices.length > 1){ //check if item already added var tempInt:int = model.multipleProcessingData.getItemIndex(model.processingData); if (tempInt == -1){ model.multipleProcessingData.addItem(model.processingData); } } else{ model.multipleProcessingData.removeAll(); model.multipleProcessingData.addItem(model.processingData); }
