    I have to perform various task such as restarting process, monitor process state check disk space, log monitoring on Window server 2003 machine. For this i am using remote desktop access which is very slow. Is there any alternate (Tool or Framework) for windows server where i can execute my script on my machine and the required task will be performed on the remote machine in somewhat interactive manner (like putty in linux)

  • SQL Server on VMWare - is transaction log corruption possible?

    Scenario: SQL Server 2005 or 2008, Windows 2008 OS. Running in a VM hosted on VMWare ESX server. Is there any known issue with VMWare when it caches pass-through write request and it never reaches the disk, while SQL Server "thinks" that write actually happened? This may lead to transaction log corruption in case of power failure or VM reboot. Just overheard the conversation but couldn't find it in relation to ESX.

    What is the reason partitioning is usually a step in installing multiple (2) operating systems on the same computer? Does an operating system have to have it's own partition to run or can it run in the same partition as another operating system? (i.e. -can two of the same flavor run in the same partition but if you have one Linux and one windows it needs to be partitioned?) Is it necessary to make disk partitions to run multiple operating systems?

  • Setup wiped Polycom phone without SIP server

    I'm troubleshooting a Polycom SoundPoint IP 550. I have wiped the hard disk of the phone (via a menu option) and now it's stuck in a reboot cycle. Apparently the only way to setup the firmware of the phone is to use a boot server. Does anyone know another way to setup the phone/firmware?

  • How do I know if I managed to completely remove an undetected trojan?

    I catched a trojan that uses explorer.exe to reproduce itself in case of deletion of its autostart entry or main exe file in Programs/x. It had already tried to contact a suspicious server over explorer.exe, blocked that via my firewall. I: Removed the autostart entries from the registry Looked through my services if there was anything suspicious Deleted the trojan from Programs/ Went through System Volume Information to find a 2 month old explorer.exe and replaced the possibly infected one. There are no suspicious processes running now anymore (no duplicate explorer.exe) and nothing wants to connect this trojan owners sever either. I checked my system with several anti-malware programs too. What the trojan did: Started a second explorer.exe Always when I deleted the main trojan exe file it was reproduced (by the second explorer.exe) Always when I deleted the autostart entry it was reproduced by the explorer.exe too. When I terminated the suspicious explorer.exe, which used only half as much memory as the less suspicious one from Windows, a strange thing that I know from the computers in my Informatics class happened: A window popped up in the top left of my explorer-less desktop, titled "Personal settings for ... are ..." that obviously copied some files. Then both explorer.exes started again and the trojan was everywhere again. What did the trojan actually do to get explorer to rescue it? Is my PC clean of this newish trojan now? What are the other locations I should check for the trojan? The trjoan doesn't seem very high-level, could it have changed other system files or is the autostart entry vital for it?   • How do I preserve ownership permissions when copying to an external volume?

    When I upgrade or reinstall linux I backup my home folder by running sudo cp -pr /home/users/yitzchak /media/externalHDD/backups. When I do this I get errors saying that permissions could not be preserved and when I copy the folder back onto my local disk I see that ownership has been changed to root and I have to chown all of them back, which has to be done manually piecemeal because not all files have the same group. Is there any way around that?

    Seeing some posts that say 10 million rows in a table is nothing made me wonder: Just how big are most production databases? I'm not talking about physical disk size of the database (saying 60 GB tells me nothing), I'm wondering how many rows. Personally the largest DB I've ever worked with was a test DB of a production system with 10 million rows. But I've seen people brag about DB's in the billions of rows.

These would only have a small disk for guest swap files, a CPU (XEON preferred), 32 Gb of memory and minimal graphics. The virtual machines need to be up but demand will be quite low.     Has anybody had any experience using XXClone as a tool for cloning an existing installation of Windows in order to move it from an old PATA drive to a new, larger SATA without having to reinstall everything?   • Recovered folders from Camera show as JPEG files and can can't be viewed.

    I have recovered a CCTV camera hard disk after a crash and have managed to get most of the data using EasyRecovery Pro. The problem is now that all the data that I have recovered appear like File09.JPG with and image icon in windows XP, but the files can't be viewed in any JPEG viewer software. I suspect that the .JPG files are indeed folders, but I can't force windows XP the change the file type. Very Odd. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Hoo

I own both, and my hard drive died in my Vista computer, so I ran out, bought another one and now need to re-install my OS. However, the computer came with it, and didn't come with a disk (Thanks Acer!) So, is there a place I can download an ISO of my Windows that ISN'T illegaly activated?     It seems to me that data=journal prevents file system inconsistency in the case of power failure. Using it with a dedicated journal device mitigates the performance penalty of writing the data twice. A power outage would still lose the data that is currently being written to the journal, but the file system on disk would always be consistent. If that amount of loss is acceptable, is a RAID controller with battery backed cache really worthwhile?

I have new units that haven't even had the partition table created on them, and I'm trying to come up with a one (or two) step process for getting a disk image onto them. But I would like to have the computer icon too. I guess there will be an increased demand to create useful shortcuts on Windows 8 Servers Desktop, because the metro surface 'on the backside of your screen' is just impractical.

  • Correct stripe with for RAID-50

    I've been trying to determine what the correct stripe width for a RAID-50 volume is but haven't been successful in google searches or empirical tests. The volume is built off of 4 disk spans that contain 6 disks each. If I understand it correctly, each individual span is a RAID-5 volume and the 4 spans are combined using RAID-0. However, I'm not seeing any noticable effect when I vary the stripe-width from 2-20. Suggestions?

    We have large multi-gigabyte data sets on which we run very complex queries, for example { $or: [ { id: 30000001, ... }, { id: 30000005, ... }, ..., { id: 30001005, ... } ] } It seems that CPU is actually a bottleneck at this point, so I'd be advantageous to be able to run multiple mongod instances on the same set of database files. We've considered using replica sets to this end, but would prefer to not require the extra disk space simply for CPU reasons.

  • MySQL reclaim index space after large delete?

    After performing a large delete in MySQL, I understand you need to run a NULL ALTER to reclaim disk space, is this also true for reclaiming index space? We have tables using 10G of index space and have deleted/archived large chunks of this data and unsure if we need to rebuild the table in order to decrease the size of the index. Can anyone offer any advice? We are trying to avoid rebuilding the table since it would take quite awhile and lock the table. Thanks!
