  • Web based library management (FOSS) application

    I'm looking for a FOSS web-based library management application. I want to manage the few books we have at our company, and I'm looking for applications that provide a simple web interface to: Add new books. Search for books. (Not Required) Place holds on books. My ideal would be something like Delicious Library, but web based and open source. I've looked at Koha (which I could not install), Emilda, which seems to be a dead project (last emails are from 2006 and I could not install it) and VuFind which looks awesome but doesn't provide (or I could not find) an interface to add new records to the library. Any suggestions?

  • Changing Commenting behavior for ruby in Aptana Studio

    There is something I really hate in Aptana Studio 3 when I am using Ruby. When I try to use Ctrl+Shift+/ it inserts a comment of this form: =begin My lines of code My lines of code My lines of code My lines of code My lines of code =end I would like the Ctrl+Shift+/ to be defaulted to toggle commenting with '# ' instead. I have gone to the key preferences and tried changing PyDev toggle comment to Ctrl+Shift+/ but it doesn't work. It must be picking that behavior from somewhere else. What do I need to change so that I get the IDE to behave like I want. Ted.

  • .com domain transfer failing

    Hi, I'm trying to transfer one of my .com addresses between registrars. I'm down as the owner contact (confirmed working) and the losing registrar is down as the tech and admin contact. Last week I received an email stating that the domain transfer had been rejected by the losing registrar. I contacted the losing registrar and they denied that. My money from the winning registrar was refunded and I was told to try again. I've initiated the transfer again and received confirmation of pending transfer, I gave the correct EPP code and confirmed the transfer. Currently the status on the domain is set as OK, should it not be transfer pending? According to my name.com transfer page if the transfer is not authd in 5 days it will auto transfer anyway. I don't believe this will happen. Name.com have been really helpful but they can't really do much more now. The losing registrar is not being helpful hence me turning here. What can I do to make sure the domain transfers? The domain transfer is set to expire on the 17th. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Start Menu Shortcuts resisting reorganisation

    Running Win7. The Start Menu was getting too big, so I've navigated to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and created some sub-folders in various categories [image editors, system utilities, media players, security for example] in which to group the shortcuts. Having created the group folders, I've dragged and dropped the Start Menu shortcuts into them. However it seems all Start Menu shortcuts are not alike. Some programs, their shortcut folders having been moved from the Start Menu, spawn NEW [but empty] folders bearing their company names in the top level of the Start Menu eg AVICodec Some programs don't have Start Menu shortcut folders that can be seen in WinExplorer [or equiv] at all, even though they turn up under the Start Menu itself. It seems these can be moved where they are visible i.e. in the Start - All Programs by dragging and dropping not just onto the desired folder but by hovering to expand the desired folder and then dropping between other shortcuts there. Eg Daum, Format Factory That's not such a problem, but why it's happening is a mystery. What's going on, and how to make these shortcuts behave normally or otherwise control them properly?

  • "A disk read error occurred" when booting XP disk image in VirtualBox

    I'm trying to boot an XP installation cloned into VirtualBox from a real drive. I'm getting the message A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart whenever* I try to boot the machine. * This is not strictly true: with AMD-V enabled, the boot process appears to not make it this far and instead hangs at a black screen with cursor. I created the VirtualBox image from the original drive using the following method: $ sudo ddrescue -n /dev/sdd sdd.img logfile # completed without errors $ VBoxManage convertfromraw sdd.img disk.vdi The original disk (and the image) contain a single NTFS partition with XP installed on it. The owner of the drive indicates that it did boot okay the last time the system made it that far. The (Pentium 4) system has a broken (enormous) heat sink, so at some point it failed to boot because it would quickly overheat and shut down. If I boot the VM from a live cd, I am able to mount its /dev/sda1 without any problems. I ran ntfsfix and didn't have any luck. I've read through the instructions on doing this. I didn't really follow them. For example, I didn't run MergeIDE before imaging because the machine was not bootable. However, the symptom of that problem seems to be quite different. The emitted message is contained in the volume boot record of the XP partition, which leads me to suspect that this is a problem with the core operating system bootstrap procedure, and not related to anything in the registry. I don't have an XP boot CD.

What's more, memory usage is growing all the time. I've had to restart my server once a week, because once my 256mb fills up it starts swapping, which it wouldn't do just for disk cache. Shouldn't there be some way for me to see the culprit?! I'm new to server admin, so please if there's something obvious I'm overlooking point it out to me.     What exactly influences the kind of RAM a desktop or laptop can support? Apart from the clock speed, the maximum amount of RAM the motherboard can handle, the DDR type (1/2/3) and the shape of the module (DIMM for desktops, SO-DIMM for laptops)? I see that in certain cases, such as with the Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9, (and on the Kingston KTD-L3B/4G page) the page displays a set of laptop product numbers. Does the actual model of the laptop also influence the models of RAM it can support? Could, for instance, an Asus K52 work with that particular RAM module, even if it specifies Dell models?

  • https post message fail, where is server log?

    I am receiving an error when sending a https post message to my server and I am looking to get more information. I am looking for ssl error log in apache but I cannot find it. I have looked in /usr/local/apache/logs/secure and I don't see the proper error. Should I be looking in a different place? UPDATE: Fyi, the connection is timing out or being lost when I use https and I am trying to figure out why. When I use http it works fine.

  • Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 on netbook

    I tried to install CyberLink's PowerDVD 9 on a friend's netbook. The installation went OK (even though the install screen is too big to fit and you can't see the "Next " buttons etc.), but once installed, PowerDVD 9 refuses to launch. It claims it requires at least 1024x768 resolution - the Acer netbook has 1024x600 :-( Any way / hack / trick to get PowerDVD9 to work anyway?? Couldn't it scale down to e.g. 800x600?

  • Dreamweaver Delete Space to Word, Not Word

    There's a built in DW keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Del) that deletes up to AND INCLUDING the first word to the right. I used to use the ColdFusion Studio app for coding and it would just remove the space UP TO the word (left the word or bracket, or whatever alone.) Any DW users know if this is a setting that can be changed? I'm really used to the old behavior and keep deleting the first word, hitting Ctrl + Z to put it back and then having to manually delete all the spaces to leave the word... Hoping one of you geniuses can help! Thanks, D.

  • Triple monitor setup in linux

    I'm hoping there are some xorg gurus out there. I'm trying to get a three monitor setup working in linux. I have 2 lcd monitors and a tv, all different resolutions. I'm using 2 video cards; a 9800 GTX and 7900Gt. I've seen a lot of different posts about people trying to make this work, and in every case, they either gave up, or Xinerama magically solved all their problems. Basically, my main problem is that I cannot get Xinerama to work. Every time I turn it on in the options, my machine gets stuck in a neverending boot cycle. If I disable Xinerama, I just have three Xorg screens, but I can't drag windows from one to the other. I can get the 2 lcds on Twinview, and the tv on a separate Xorg screen no problem. But I don't really like this solution. I'd rather have them all on separate screens and stitch them together with Xinerama. Has anyone done this? Here's my xorg.conf for reference. p.s. This took me all of 30 seconds to set up in Windows XP! p.s.s. I've seen somewhere that maybe randr can solve my problems? But I'm not quite sure how?     Looking for an easy way to postprocess rpm -q output so it reports the total size of all subpackages matching a regexp, e.g. see the aspell* example below. (Short of scripting it with Python/PERL/awk, which is the next step) (Motivation: I'm trying to remove a few Gb of unnecessary packages from a CentOS install, so I'm trying to track down things that are a) large b) unnecessary and c) not dependencies of anything useful like gnome.   • Cannot access virtual machine via ping from the physical host machine

    I'm installing a FreeBSD Server on VirtualBox. I set up the IP address (192.168.10.5) for the virtual server to run a mail server and the host computer(Windows 7) with 192.168.10.184. The two machines cannot communicate or connect to each other. I cannot ping from the virtual machine to the host and vice versa. The host machine connects to a LAN. I want the mail server to run frm a VMachine. I think it's a problem with the network configuration of the virtual machine.

Recently one of the other administrators accidentally deleted the Facebook fan page.   • Torrents: Can I protect my software by sending wrong bytes?

    Hi, It's a topic that everyone interests. How can I protect my software against stealing, hacking, reverse engineering? I was thinking: Do my best to protect the program for reverse engineering. Then people will crack it and seed it with torrents. Then I download my own cracked software with a torrent with my own torrent-software. My own torrent-software has then to seed incorrect data (bytes). Of course it has to seed critical bytes. So people who want to steal my software download my wrong bytes. Just that bytes that are important to startup, saving and loading data, etc... So if the stealer download from me (and seed it later) can't do anything with it, because it is broken. Is this idea relevant? Maybe, good torrent-clients check hashes from more peers to check if the packages (containing my broken bytes) I want to seed are correct or not? Thanks

  • DLP projector has odd colors

    At my place of work, we have several different video projectors, but they all use DLP technology, and the colors are wrong: for instance, yellow looks more like green, and all other colors are similarly distorted. Any kind of presentation or collaborative work is hindered by these wrong colors. On the laptop screen, the colors are fine but on the projector (hooked up via normal short VGA cable, and showing the same image at the same time), the colors look wrong. This is not about one specific projector or one specific laptop; it seems that any combination of projector + laptop has the exact same problem. Someone said that DLP is poor technology, but that's not true. I'm using a DLP projector at home (regular PC connected via HDMI) and the colors are excellent. Still, there's some kind of curse on the machinery at work. How can we get decent colors?
