    I have a user that I log in with over SFTP to my Ubuntu box. They have permission to write to the home directory of course. The external hard drive gets mounted to /media folder but I can't write to it over SFTP while logged in with that user. How would I set the permissions to allow me to write to the drive?

  • usb keyboard stopped working in terminal window after update from 13.04 to 13.10

    When I start the computer, I am logged in automatically. Using the keyboard, I type Ctrl+Alt+t, which brings up a terminal window, just like it should; however, nothing happens when I attempt to type into the terminal. If I change over to the guest account, I can type into the terminal, but (different problem here, I'll ask it separately unless someone is kind enough to answer it here) my password doesn't work for sudo or anything else. Elsewhere I read that Language support could fix it, but that won't accept my password either - and no, I haven't changed it lately. Also, my Plex Media Server seems to have disappeared. I'll re-install everything if necessary, but I sure would rather avoid that if possible

We need to be able to expose these documents via some sort of search functionality on the intranet. Provide some mechanism to organize and tag the documents on hard disk.     My drive got corrupt after a thunderstorm. It used to be 1 partition of 2.5tb but now it shows 2 partitions. It's weird because 300gig free space is about how much it had before corrupting, but it was part of the first partition. I tried $ sudo resize2fs -f /dev/sdb1 Resizing the filesystem on /dev/sdb1 to 536870911 (4k) blocks. resize2fs: Can't read an block bitmap while trying to resize /dev/sdb1 Please run 'e2fsck -fy /dev/sdb1' to fix the filesystem after the aborted resize operation. sudo e2fsck -f /dev/sdb1 e2fsck 1.42 (29-Nov-2011) The filesystem size (according to the superblock) is 610471680 blocks The physical size of the device is 536870911 blocks Either the superblock or the partition table is likely to be corrupt! Abort? n .... Error reading block 537395215 (Invalid argument) while reading inode and block bitmaps. Ignore error<y>? yes Force rewrite<y>? yes Error writing block 537395215 (Invalid argument) while reading inode and block bitmaps. Ignore error<y>? yes ... A lot of these. I can't use e2fsck -y because the first question aborts if I say "y". If I put a weight on the 'y' key it fails because none of the errors were really fixed. I asked this question before and tried using gparted but gparted fails because the first thing it does is: e2fsck -f -y -v /dev/sdb1 giving the same error. The disk status says healthy. There are no bad blocks. This is very frustrating because I can see the data in testdisk and it looks like it's all there. I already bought another 2.5tb drive and made a clone using dd. The next step if I can't fix this is to wipe that drive and just move the data with testdisk, but it seems certain folders will copy infinitely until the drive is full because of symlinks or errors so it's also a difficult option. sudo fdisk -l Disk /dev/sdb: 2500.5 GB, 2500495958016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 304001 cylinders, total 4883781168 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes Disk identifier: 0x0005da5e Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 * 2048 4294969342 2147483647+ 83 Linux sudo badblocks -b 4096 -n -o badfile /dev/sdb 610471680 536870911 badfile is empty I also tried changing the superblock with "fsck -b" but all of them are the same.

    I'm trying to install ubuntu but i already have windows 7 on the same computer and i can't afford losing it. everything went perfectly well until allocating drivespace. i dont have the option to "install it besides another operating system " like in the instructions. i only get this menu when my external hard disk is plugged in, but i dont want that. any help assigning partitions? because i have no clue about what to do there this is what the partition menu gives

  • Mount a remote Linux hard drive as another Windows 7 partition during boot?

    I would like to mount a hard drive on a remote computer (running on CentOS 6) as a Windows drive so that I can install programs to that drive. The primary hard drive for my Windows machine (which is at home) is pretty small, I have a Linux server sitting in a remote data center with a much larger hard drive and allow me to install more stuff. I know most of you are going to say Samba, unfortunately the biggest problem for me in this case is that I can not mount Samba as a network share unless I start OpenVPN or SSH tunneling first, which is not good for my case because I will install some startup programs to the remote drive as well. Therefore, the remote drive has to be ready and work just like another drive BEFORE any of the startup programs start to load. Is that possible? My home PC has Windows 7 Professional 32 bit installed and the remote server is a Xen virtual server running on CentOS 6. I have admin/root permissions for both. Thanks a lot!

  • How to stop windows 7 from asking to format a disk?

    Hey guys, I have this USB flash drive with a Linux partition that I use inside VirtualBox. Each time I insert it into the USB port, windows keeps asking if it should format it. Is there anyway to disable Windows from asking that? Thanks. EDIT: Disabling auto-run has not resolved the problem unfortunately. Windows will still check if the disk contains a partition it knows about, and ask to format if it doesn't know it. Really nice try though, any other ideas?

  • Installed 11.10 on shared drive, when other partition mounted, HDD shown full

    I just partitioned a 500GB HDD 50%-50%. I installed ubuntu 11.10 on one half and copied a load of files onto the other. When I don't mount the other partition, it shows I have used 12.1GB and have about 240GB free. The second I mount the other partition, I can't copy any files over and get a disk full message. There is about 10-20GB Free on the other partition. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

  • CentOS drive mapping? [on hold]

    This is the first time I am posting on this particular StackExchange forum and I hope that I am using the right one for the present question. Briefly, this is what I need to do I am running a web service where users can, amongst other things, upload and store files on the server. What I want to do is to hive off user file storage to a different location so my server (CentOS 64 bit) can concentrate on what it does best - server side scripting and database management. As things stand all user files go into subdirectories in a folder called stash that lies above DOC_ROOT. What I would like to do is Transparently detect all attempts to read/write to stash/sub_folder and get/set file data on a remote server - ideally the latter would be one which replicates files like a CDN so they can be delivered from the closest/fastest location based on where the user's location. Even nicer would be if for all read accesses I could provide a URL that allows the user's browser to fetch the relevant file directly without having to funnel them via my server. I am a relative newbie when it comes to this sort of thing so I hope that I have phrased this question adequately well. From the little searching I done I gathered that WebDAV can be used to map drives to a different location on the web so perhaps that is a starting point. But if that will work I need to Establish how to get WebDAV up and running on my CentOS 64 bit server. Ideally, identify a service that allows this kind of file storage and provides an API I can use in my own scripting. I'd much appreciate any help with this.

  • Can Kies provide a data connection so my phone can avoid mobile data usage?

    I regularly connect my Samsung phone by USB cable to my PC to charge it up, and when I run the Samsung Kies app on the PC I can sync data too. Is it possible for my phone to use my PCs internet connection through the USB link to avoid data charges? I don't have a wifi connection available. It would make sense if Kies could provide this, or perhaps there's some other way I can achieve it without wifi, such as using Bluetooth. I have a Samsung GT-S7500, though this question should apply to many other models.

Does not appear anywhere and after several tries all I got in return was the /home folder with the Lost+Found folder in it saying "The content of this folder can not be accessed. You do not have the sufficient permissions to view the content" For anyone that knows what to do, please answer.
