    We are using Nagios to monitor our network with great results. There is now a new requirement we are struggling with: We want to notify Nagios of an non fatal but critical application errors. The application does not stop running but there is some sort of issue that needs looking into. Once the issue has been looked into, we need some way to "unflag" the issue in Nagios. We tried using the syslog, but the biggest problem was once an error was logged, the service was put into an error state with no way to recover. Also, while applications would report a critical error to the syslog, most of the time they don't report an "All clear" error.

    How would you modularize a large application that has some incoming (SOAP) webservices, some outgoing webservices, transformations between them and internal formats, internal logging services, accesses external archiving webservices, delays stuff and works on this asynchronously and so forth? One way is to split the functionality into a collection of WAR, deploy all of them on one application server and have them communicate with internal webservices. This has some overhead, especially if the messages are large, and you might run into performance problems due to thread count restrictions and so forth. Another way would be to put everything into a giant WAR, such that you can communicate directly. Not exactly modularization. What would you do?

If the user desires the attributes for each use case (such as business rules, data elements, etc) should be expandable. This is potentially a large map which is the reason why the attributes should be expandable / collapsable. Finally all this needs to be printable. Any idea of the ideal application to do this?     part of the specification of this desktop application is to have a mini browser built in, so that you can enter URL, and navigate the site as you would on a normal browser. Access to the browser page's DOM is required, should let me programmatically change the rendering view of a page, should be cross-platform, renders javascript JDIC seems outdated and I've heard Mozswing doesn't run on Mac.... Jxbrowser license costs a grand and up. Is Java the wrong platform to be creating such app? Are there any other solutions out there for building an application like this ? Thank you.

I have gotten suggestions from people stating that I should perform logging using handlers in the application and use a "logger" object for logging from the API.   • Setting a Forms Authentication cookie from a .NET client application

    We currently have a .NET 2.0 web app that uses forms authentication via cookies. Associated with this web app is an old VB6 client application that has its own login system. Currently, the users have to login to the VB6 app, and then when they click on a link, need to authenticate themselves again with the .NET forms authentication system. I'm wondering if it's possible to create a client side .NET application, give it the username and password, and set the forms authentication cookie (without the browser being opened). Is that possible??

  • While submitting app to iOS App Store, "Unable to unzip application"

    I've successfully submitted "Product Name" to App Store. However, submitting "Product Name Lite", I keep getting the error "Unable to unzip application" in both Application Loader and built-in Xcode's uploader. Error persists even after eliminating spaces from the product name; in fact, I don't think there's whitespace anywhere in the app or the plist anymore. What might be causing this "highly descriptive" error? I'm using Xcode 3.2.5. Attempting to clean, build, and build&archive did not help.

  • Why would a FaceBook application "work" on a profile, but not a page?

    I made a FaceBook application that works fine on profiles, but I can't figure out how to get it to show on a FaceBook page. For example, after I visit the application canvas URL, allow the application, then edit application settings and "add" to box and tab view... I cannot click the "plus" symbol to the left of the tabs in order to add a tab for the application. It does not appear in the list of available applications. Meanwhile, the application is working/showing up on profiles with no issues. I DID check the "Installable to Pages" checkbox on the application (authentication tab) settings. What could cause this?   • Should I use Drupal or Kohana-type framework for a web "application"

    The debate is that I need a PHP Framework/Drupal with the flexibility to add custom features to a potentially large application (web and with an api). However, with a framework, like Kohana, I see myself tackling and re-inventing the wheel with the simple stuff like account management and cms stuff. Account management and quick data collection, like fast form creation, are tedious in Kohana but appear incredible simple in Drupal. On the other hand, based on my limited Drupal experience, I doubt building rapid custom "features" and allowing users to create "groups" and to manage their own roles within those groups is something Drupal can easily accomplish. To simplify, is Drupal capable of true Web Applications; where the application is a service and provides custom results to each user? Can it provide a dashboard-like interface for users to change their settings or preferences? Can it aggregate data from particular users to provide better results/info to others? If so, please point me to some knowledge :-)

    Hi, I'm trying to build a small utility for myself only to hide labels of running programs with windows visible in the taskbar where the label holds no information (for example "iTunes", "Microsoft SQL Server Mngmt Studio", "~cmd.exe") but keep windows like Windows Explorer and Visual Studio and MSN ungroupped, with labels (to know which folders you are currently listing, which projects are open, and who are you chatting with by name). I'm trying to loop through all windows in the taskbar on windows 7, but without any luck. I found some samples for XP's taskbar reorders, they no longer usable. I've checked the samples in WindowsAPICodePack for Windows 7 Taskbar manipulation, but it only lets me access my processes' windows.

    Hi all, I want to see if any of you know a (free and open source will be ideal) tool/ app that can help build a php web application very quickly without investing too much time on writing codes, preferring drag and drop/ point and click work-flow designer for logic design (see Agile from Outsystems below). Plus, visual designer for the business logic is great since it can help a developer visualize the logic better. There are a lot of GUI builders, form builders out there, but I am looking for one app for the entire web application development process. My goal is to find an application that a team of developers can use together and use the build-in code of the app as much as possible. E.g. the app will provide a modular just for handle user login or a shopping cart; a developer just need to drag and drop the modular to the logic designer and the code will be generated. This way the functionality will be in a module and code will always be standard across developers. So if a new developer get on-board, he will just need to use the system and get up and running quickly. To explain this better: there is a lot php frameworks, e.g. cakephp, CodeIgniter, etc which I can use to help coding, but still I need to create (code) the GUI, writing quite a bit of codes. I am looking for a tool/ app that is a little more high level than those frameworks. Here is 2 examples apps I found during my google search which they have visual logic designer and gui builder in one single app. Also a single click deployment (but I need it to be php apps or at least I can deploy the (php) code to a LAMP/ WAMP server): Wavemaker: for JAVA Agile from Outsystems: for JAVA or .net (This one is really good, with work-flow drag and drop logic designer!) Talend: it is just an ETL tool, but the concept is what I want to bring up. Drag and drop, point and click logic design. Custom code can be added if it is needed, but the drag and drop process already finished the structure and most of the coding of the web app one needs to build. I want to list Adobe Flex, but it is more like a GUI designer + IDE, not exactly what I want to describe here. The drag and drop/ work-flow logic designer is a key for the app. I could go for the CMS route by learning how to extend them, but it is not that flexible for me and is a long learning curve. Anybody came across this type of app before? Or any idea of how can I find those apps? I googled them for long time, I don't see any of them for php and just few (just 2) for Java. But how can i check whether the date is passed 2 days or not? Right now I am checking with the current system date.But when the user changes the system date to back, it will start to work which i dont want. I heard from the community that before diving into driver development one must be familiar with windows internals that means one must read "Windows Internals by Mark Russinovich. I'm going to buy this book today. Which edtition should I buy? 4th edition covers Windows XP & Windows 2003 where as 5th edition covers Windows Vista & windows server 2008. I don't know in driver world how much difference this thing would make. How different are these two editions? should I first read 4th edition & then come to 5th or should I directly dive into 5th?

    I am looking for something very close to an application server with these features: it should handle a series of threads/daemons, allowing the user to start-stop-reload each one without affecting the others it should keep libraries separated between different threads/daemons it should allow to share some libraries Currently we have some legacy code reinventing the wheel... and not a perflectly round-shaped one at that! I thought to use Tomcat, but I don't need a web server, except maybe for the simple backoffice user interface (/manager/html). Any suggestion? Is there a non-web application server, or is there a better alternative to Tomcat (more lightweight, for example, or easier to configure)? Thanks in advance.

  • How to stop windows resizing when the monitor display channel is turned off / switched to different source

    Have a new 6870 ati radeon adapter with its drivers set to 1080p 60hz resolution hooked up to a 2008 47" high end Samsung HDMI based TV. However, when the tv is turned to a different hdmi input -(when I come back into windows) somehow Windows decides to resize all the open apps to a lower resolution - including some of the side docked hidden pop-outs. When it resizes those though - it just sticked the pop-outs in the middle of the screen and all the resized windows from the open applications in the top left corner - all of them stacked on top of each other and resized to the smaller resolution. The things that seem to be ok after returning are the icons on the desktop, the taskbar, and the sidebar. Anyone have any knowledge of 1) how this happens 2) why it happens 3) how to stop it from resizing the applications and some of the docked pop-outs (they are not really resized after returning - they are just stuck in the middle of the screen approximately where they would be if the right or bottom sidebar should be if the screen was resized to that lower resolution). My hypothesis is that upon losing HDMI signal - that Windows is told by something (driver, or windows itself) that the resolution to be without a signal being present (noting that HDMI signals and handshakes are two way on HDMI devices. If it loses the signal or the tv is switched to another device - then the display adapter must figure that out and tell Windows or figures it out and designs randomly to change the display size). Any and all help is most appreciated. I asked AMD/ATI - but they said they don't know why or how this is happening. I was hoping that maybe this is THE place that the super users truly go to - those that develop display adapter drivers, or that dive deeply into these areas of windows. If there is better sites or just competing sites - please advise - noting I have already written AMD/ATI. HP Response / Additions 4/7/2011 It is really nice to get your reply Shinrai. (BTW is it proper etiquette on these forums to have a discussion?) Yet 'only one issue' - I am using a single display in this case - so Windows doesn't move application windows to another desktop. Windows (or something) decides to shrink the desktop it currently has and resize all windows to the maximum size of the desktop. As such I would be glad if Windows would just keep the current size of the one desktop that is in operation. I also know that this does NOT happen on monitors connected with DVI. There I have had one and two monitors setup and it doesn't resize those screens at all when disconnecting monitors, turning them off, whatever... they stay solid - everything in place - to such an extent that if you forgot the other monitor is off - you will have troubles finding some windows without using one of the control app utilities. So if I could even get the HDMI handling by Windows (or the display driver) ( 1] which is doing this anyway the display driver or Windows - and 2] where is that other resolution size (1024x768) coming from - its not the smallest and its not the largest?) to be having like DVI - Life would be golden (for this aspect anyway). ** found others with same problem in this thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1507324 Thanks, HP

    Hi in a java application i need to run an external console application. With the window's ones everything is OK: try { System.out.println("Running..."); Runtime.getRuntime().exec("notepad.exe"); System.out.println("End."); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println(e.getMessage()); } launches notepad successfully. But if I put "D:\MyProg.exe" or ".bat" or even "cmd.exe" (which is it PATH as notepad is) it does not work. Without any exeptions. Just: Running... End. Can somebody help? Thanx.

  • Performance decrease in every game and application

    When I start a game, initially it runs smoothly, but after a couple of minutes, the performance gradually decreases to the point of being unplayable (1-2 FPS). The sound also starts to lag at this point. This does not happen every time I start my PC, usually exiting the game, rebooting, then starting the game again solves the problem, and I can play with perfect FPS for as long as I want. I could not find any deterministic reason when this happens and when doesn't. It happens in every game I tried (SWTOR, Diablo 3, Skyrim), and not even games, but simple applications like a browser or the Control Panel can get unusably slow. This is a brand new PC I bought three months ago, and this problem occurs since the first day I've been using it. Could you provide any advice how to further diagnose the problem? I tried to reinstall Windows, and tried different video card drivers, but it did not help. It would be important to know whether this is a hardware or software problem, because I can use the warranty if it is a hardware issue. (I did not want to return the PC yet, because I can't reproduce the issue deterministically.)     Hi, I am new to PL/SQL, I'm trying to execute the commands that I learned at the course. VARIABLE area NUMBER DECLARE radius NUMBER(2) := &s_radius; pi CONSTANT NUMBER := 3.14; BEGIN :area := pi * radius * radius; END; I understand that I can run this using SqlPlus, but I remember my teacher was running this from the web browser using Application Express. I try to run the same commands there, at HOME SQLSQL Commands, but I keep getting the error "ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement" . Can you help me run it in Application Express or point me to a way where I can use an editor to run these course exercises? Thanks!

All hardlinks within C:\Windows\System32 folder disappear, and the Windows can't boot, because even the osloader, C:\Windows\System32\boot\Winload.exe also disappeared. Nevertheless, the original files are still located in the corresponding C:\Windows\winsxs folders. After booting into the Recovery Environment, and copied one Winload.exe (x64) from other folder, Windows gave an error pointing out that "ntoskrnl.exe is corrupted or missing...its file digital signature cannot be verified" In trying to boot in Safe Mode, the message above was shown after a screen prompting "Loaded \Windows\system32\config\system" Because at this early booting stage, smss.exe was still not loaded, so there is not any dumping and logs. Based on my study, ntoskrnl.exe depends on the following files: C:\\windows\\system32\\PSHED.DLL C:\\Windows\\System32\\hal.dll C:\\Windows\\System32\\kdcom.dll C:\\Windows\\System32\\clfs.sys C:\\Windows\\System32\\ci.dll All those files above are copied from their corresponding folders and verified their md5 with a well-operating Windows 7 x64 SP1. But the booting error is still the same: "ntoskrnl.exe is corrupted or missing..." **Background:** Before the reboot, there was an windows update going on. Then something unknown happen, almost all processes were broken to run, including the windows task manager, taskmgr.exe.   • Facebook application redirect on different URL's

    Hi, I have made a facebook application for generating access_token. It's working fine except one problem with it's redirect url. Have set redirect Url : www.mysite.com/myfolder/ in my FB application. So it will work for all folders/files inside www.mysite.com/myfolder/ but I am having problem I want to use these urls for redirect: http://www.mysite.com/myfolder/index.php?mod=config&do=useradd http://www.mysite.com/myfolder/index.php?mod=config&do=useredit and it always redirecting me on: http://www.mysite.com/myfolder/index.php?mod=config which is wrong . Please help to resolve this issue.
