    I am trying to compile android source v2.3.4. When I give "make -j32", I am getting result like this.I am using fedora 14(32 bit).   • New to C/C++ Using Android NDK to port Legacy code, getting compile errors

    I have been trying to take some old Symbian C++ code over to Android today using the NDK. I have little to no C or C++ knowledge so its been a chore, however has to be done. My main issue is that I'm having trouble porting what I believe is Symbian specifi code to work using the small C/C++ subset that is available with the Android NDK. Here is a picture of the compilation errors I'm getting using cygwin I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to deal with these errors? For instance is TBool/Int/TUint/RPointerArray/RSocket a Symbian primitive and thats why it wont compile or is it something else? Also what is ISO C++? Any tutorials, guides or tips and help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Getting WAP embedded video in android AND iphone?

    Recently a client asked me to make their site "work on smart phones", which normally wouldn't be too much of an issue... However it's a video site, and I have absolutely no idea where to even begin. Right off the bat I'm not even going to consider allowing the site to even function in anything other than Android (Maybe even 2.0+) and iPhone, maybe Blackberry and WinMo. But beyond that... What do I do? I'm looking at using the tag, however I'm unsure what, if any, codecs which phone uses. Is HTML5 even adopted in their browsers yet? Could someone please point me in the right direction? Am I going about this the right way, using the tag? Or is there some magical html element both iPhone and Android (And BB and WMo) that lets them run video in their native video players (Like on youtube).

    Hey guys Just wondering what you'd suggest as the best platform for developing a business application for a tablet device. The application needs to be multitouch, have access to a maps API, a database on the device. It will not be going on sale in the app store or Androids market, it is purely for specific business task and not for the general consumer. Obviously the options seem to be iPhone OS and the iPad or Android and an Android tablet device. The form factor for the end product requires something in the region of 8 inch+ screen and enough processing power to provide a good experience for the end user. Any help would be much appreciated.   • Build path error in eclipse for android

    Hi, whenever I do a Clean on my project, I get 2 errors: 1.) the project is missing gen folder. 2.) there is a build path error. I go to "Configure build path" and uncheck "Android 1.6". It works. If I do thsi again , i go and this time check "Android 1.6". It again works. Can anyone please tell me why this is happening. Thanks

  • Java object graph -> xml when direction of object association needs to be reversed.

    An application I have been working on has objects with a relationship similar to below. In the real application both objects are JPA entities. class Underlying{} class Thing { private Underlying underlying; public Underlying getUnderlying() { return underlying; } public void setUnderlying(final Underlying underlying) { this.underlying = underlying; } } There is a requirement in the application to create xml of the form: <template> <underlying> <thing/> <thing/> <thing/> </underlying> </template> So we have a situation where the object graph expresses the relationship between Thing and Underlying in the opposite direction to how it's expressed in the xml. I expect to use JAXB to create the xml but ideally I don't want to have to create a new object hierarchy to reflect the associations in the xml. Is there any way to create xml of the form required from the entities in their current form (through the use of xml annotations or something)? I don't have any experience using JAXB but from the limited research I've done it doesn't seem like it's possible to reverse the direction of association in any straightforward way. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. One other option that has been suggested is to use XLST to transform the xml into the correct format. I have done no research on this topic as yet but I'll add to the question when I have some more info. Thanks, Matt.

    I'm writing my first location based android app, but got confused about some of the GPS service api. Here are some questions I have: 1) To get my current location, I called requestLocationUpdates() with a listener in the onCreate() method of one activity. But what happens when another activity starts and the current activity goes invisible? Is the GPS location update going to stop? If so, how do I keep it on after the activity is switched? 2) how accurate is the Location.getSpeed()? How is it computed? Can it tell the difference between on bicycle and on foot? 3) not really a question about android. How to calculate the coordinates of a location, say, 100m away from my current location? 4) To stop the GPS, I only need to remove all the listeners that have been registered to locationmanager?     i have a deeply nested structure (actually parsing out xhtml, so lots of nasty), like so: <tr> <td> <font id="blah"> stuff </font> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> more stuff </td> </tr> and this repeats in a long table. i need an xpath expression that will select the second font tag (or rather it's text()). i was looking at the preceding-sibling axis, but something isn't quite working right. something along the lines of (and pardon me if this is ridiculous, my xpath is rusty) //tr[preceding-sibling::tr/td/font/b]/td/text()

  • Android source referencing missing classes

    I cloned some of the trees from the Android Open Source Project to take a look at the code, but I can't build them because they reference classes which don't seem to exist. For instance, the music application here references android.media.MediaFile which according to the package summary does not exist, as well as things like ArrayListCursor which has an old javadoc around but is absent in current documentation. So is the open source project disjoint from the released SDK? Also, is there a way to build these open source packages with the current SDK? Thanks, -JQP

Now I see that iPhone and Android are both dominating he smartphone market, but also that more and more people are buying iPhones. Which one would be better to start developing for? I currently do not own a Mac but would purchase a Mac Mini if I was to buy an iPhone. Would it be better to buy iPhone and Mac because it will be better in the long run because of the amount of users or Android?

By default, the encoding is set to ascii. I'd be very grateful for a pointer to whatever I need to do to let the build system know that my files are utf8.     I'm parsing this line: <type>branch</type> with this code if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"type"]) { [currentBranchDictionary setValue:currentText forKey:currentElementName]; } When I test the value in the type key, it does not contain branch but instead it contains branch\n. Here is the test I'm performing: if ([[currentBranchDictionary valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"branch"]) { NSLog(@"no new-line"); } else if ([[currentBranchDictionary valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"branch\n"]) { NSLog(@"new-line"); } this returns the "new-line" output I don't understand where the carriage return is being added, can anyone help?

    Hi, I just can't find the help.py file in order to create the API reference for the monkeyrunner. The command described at the Android references monkeyrunner <format> help.py <outfile> does not work when i call monkeyrunner html help.py /path/to/place/the/doc.html. It's quite obvious that the help.py file is not found and the monkeyrunner also tells me "Can't open specified script file". But a locate on my system doesn't bring me a help.py file that has anything to do with monkeyrunner or Android. So my question is: Where did they hide the help.py file for creating the API reference?

    I know the elements versus attributes debate has come up many times here and elsewhere (e.g. here, here, here, here, and here) but I haven't seen much discussion of elements versus attributes for simple property values. So which of the following approaches do you think is better for storing a simple value? A: Value in Element Content: <TotalCount>553</TotalCount> <CelsiusTemperature>23.5</CelsiusTemperature> <SingleDayPeriod>2010-05-29</SingleDayPeriod> <ZipCodeLocation>12203</ZipCodeLocation> or B: Value in Attribute: <TotalCount value="553"/> <CelsiusTemperature value="23.5"/> <SingleDayPeriod day="2010-05-29"/> <ZipCodeLocation code="12203"/> I suspect that putting the value in the element content (A) might look a little more familiar to most folks (though I'm not sure about that). Putting the value in an attribute (B) might use less characters, but that depends on the length of the element and attribute names. Putting the value in an attribute (B) might be more extensible, because you could potentially include all sorts of extra information as nested elements. Whereas, by putting the value inside the element content (A), you're restricting extensibility to adding more attributes. But then extensibility often isn't a concern for really simple properties - sometimes you know that you'll never need to add additional data. Bottom line might be that it simply doesn't matter, but it would still be great to hear some thoughts and see some votes for the two options.
