  What are the best practices for allowing a user to maintain the html title tags of all the major pages of his/her site? One way could be to allow the mapping of URLs to some text. For example, we have an app with the following (most complex) url format: http://lang.example.com/searchpage.zaf?a=foo&b=bar&c=RANDOM There are several parts to this: Language sub domain Search page Static parameter 'a' (user may want this in the title) Dynamic and relevant parameter 'b' (user may want this in the title) Dynamic parameter 'c' which can be ignored Never done this before, so I'm asking how you would tackle this!

I was used to vectors for dynamic allocation of objects like tokens or instructions of my programs, stacks and mainly strings with all their aspects. Now, in C I'm not going to have all these anymore. I know that I will have to use a lot of memory management, too.   I have an ajax-enabled site that presents a lot of dynamic content by interpolating JSON values with HTML. This all works fine. BUT it means I have significant amounts of HTML all through my JavaScript. For example: var template = "<div>Foo: {bar}</div><div>Blah: {vtha}</div>"; template.interpolate({bar:"bar",blah:"vtha"}); I have cut this down a fair bit - some of my dynamic elements have quite a lot of HTML and a lot going on. I am using jQuery and I am building on Rails, so if there is something smart in either framework, that would be great.   I'm working in ASP.NET in an application where often users want to add fields or change field names. I'd like to be able to have an xml schema in place that is parsed and a dynamic object model created from it that can be accessed throughout the application. My initial reaction is that this is not realistic. I think there is flexibility about the dynamic nature of it. I think the people I'm trying to build this for wouldn't mind recompiling. Even if the app recompiled, I don't know how to abstract away enough in my code access the data to allow for users changing property names, etc. How can you write LINQ when the properties might change? In short, there's two questions here: 1) is there a way to dynamically generate an object model of the database and 2) is there a way to abstract away enough so that code accessing the database doesn't break when properties change?

  I want to learn C++ so that i can develop C++ Python modules for server-related stuff. I'm a purely dynamic languages developer (Python, PHP, Ruby, etc). I want to learn a fast language, and if I'm going to do this, I'd rather learn a really fast language like C++. Before I even get started though, I understand that suddenly working with static types, a different syntax, and compiling code will be quite the paradigm shift. • Force download menu for remote files

  Hey, I would like users to upload links on my site. When another user clicks on the link (e.g. PDF file), then I would like the download popup to show instead of actually displaying the PDF in browser. I know I can use Response.AddHeader/Response.WriteFile to achieve this, but the WriteFile method required a virtual path. However, the links uploaded by the user will be pointing to external servers. Can I still force the download popup to show and, if so, what would be the most efficient way of doing it? Thanks for any advice

• How to show, not download, images in apache?

  I'm dynamically generating some charts using mod_python, in .png and .pdf formats. When a user points to /some/path/some_imagefile_name.png, I want to show the image within the browser, like in this url. I also want the image to be accessible from an HTML <img src=> tag. So far, whenever I point my browser to a .png address from my server, the .png and .pdf are automatically downloaded instead of being viewed. How should I fix this? I tagged this under Apache, since I figured it would be an Apache config thing. If it's not, please point me towards the right direction.

I have a dynamic dns account where I map my machine's dynamic IP to an address say, www.xxx.yyy.net Now, I have registered another short domain name say www.yyy.com, the hosting is on a linux server. Now, my machine is actually a webserver which runs .net website which can be accessed by www.xxx.yyy.net I need my homepage(index.php) in my www.yyy.com handle the redirection in a way that the pages to be loaded from www.xxx.yyy.net/.... but it should look in the browser as www.yyy.com/... Is there any way to do this using php?

  I want to emit dynamic error messages like all interpreters do nowadays, for example: Name error: Undefined variable would be constant, however what I want to reach is: Name error: Undefined variable 'X', in line 1 Okay. The line number was really no problem: Every error message must have a line number, so I added it to the error emitter function: Error( ErrType type, string msg, int line ); So where is my problem? How do I get the 'X' into Undefined variable *? I can't use sprintf as it doesn't support strings yet I use them everywhere I can't simply use cout and connect everything as I want error messages to be supressable I'd like to get everything into one function like above, Error() How do I put together dynamic error messages? For example: Error( Name, sprintf("Undefined variable %s", myVariableName ), lineNum ); (But myVariableName is a string and sprintf will mess things up)

• How to save multiple UIImage to a file iPad

  I have a PDF reader that displays pages of the document. What I want to do is allow the user to draw over the PDF in a transparent view. Then I want to save the drawing (UIImage) to disk. If at all possible, I don't want to have the documents folder filled with files like documentName_page01.png, documentName_page02.png for every page that is drawn over. However, I can't figure out how to store these UIImages into a single file without it becoming unwieldy and memory intensive. Any ideas appreciated.

• WCF client hangs on response

  I have a WCF client (running on Win7) pointing to a WebSphere service. All is good from a test harness (a little test fixture outside my web app) but when my calls to the service originate from my web project one of the calls is extremely slow to deserialize (it takes up to 10 times longer) and not just the first time. I can see from fiddler that the response comes back quickly but then the WCF client hangs on the response itself for more than a minute before the next line of code is hit by the debugger, almost if the client was having trouble deserializing. This happens only if in the response I have a given pdf string, base64 encoded chunked. If for example the service raises a fault (this pdf string is not there) then the response is deserialized immediately. Again, If I send the exact same envelope through Soap-UI or from outside the web project all is good. I am at loss - What should I be looking for and is there some config setting that might do the trick? Any help appreciated!

• Hiding result sets from multiple selects in a stored procedure

  I have a stored procedure that retrieves SQL queries as text and executes the statements using sp_executesql. Each of the dynamic queries is a count query in that it only returns the number of records found (select COUNT(id) from...). I am looping through a set of SQL queries stored as text and building a table variable out of the results. At the end, I am selecting all the results from the table variable as the result set that I want returned from the stored procedure. However, when I execute the stored procedure, I am naturally getting multiple result sets (one for each of the dynamic queries and one for the final select.) Is there any way I can suppress the results of a select statement executed through sp_executesql? I have found answers that reference storing the results in a temp table, but I don't have control of the query text that I am running so I can't change it to select into anything. Please help.   I recently read that the kernel and the dynamic loader mostly deal with the program header tables in an ELF file and that assemblers, compilers and linkers deal with the section header tables. The number of program header tables and section header tables are mentioned in the ELF header in fields named e_phnum and e_shnum respectively. e_phnum is two bytes in size, so if the number of program headers is 65535, we use a scheme known as extended numbering where, e_phnum is set to 0xffff and sh_link field of the zeroth section header table holds the actual count. My doubt is : If the count of program headers exceeds 65535, does that mean the kernel and/or the dynamic loader end up having to read the section table?

  I have a macro which can read the last cell/column of all tables in a Word 2003/2007 document and store the data in an MS-Access table. But, some Word documents have the data in structures like a table format but are not actually tables. The structure looks like a table, but the table borders are actually line connectors. These documents were created by a software(VeryPDF PDF to Word converter) which converted the PDF documents(the original format these documents were) into Word documents. Is there a way I can convert/replace the tabular structures with actual tables in Word so that I can use the macro? Or, is there a way I can read the value of the last column from the tabular structures using some VBA code? Any advice would be appreciated.

  I'm working on a 2D game that has a huge amount of dynamic entities. For fun's sake, let's call them soldiers, and let's say there are 50000 of them (which I just randomly thought up, it might be much more or much less :)). All these soldiers are moving every frame according to rules - think boids / flocking / steering behaviour. For each soldier, to update it's movement I need the X soldiers that are closest to the one I'm processing. What would be the best spatial hierarchy to store them to facilitate calculations like this without too much overhead ? (All entities are updated/moved every frame, so it has to handle dynamic entities very well)

  I have a slight problem with .htaccess redirect. I have a dynamic site with 2 levels of variables - content="type -(alpha)" and ID="number" but this is very not seo friendly what I really would like to create is a rewrite rule that generates a "friendly" url for serach engines & users alike. Very much like WordPress does. Each ID is already unique (obviously) and on creation is creating a unique "permalink" field so for example ID=1 has a "permalink field" as "2009/10/27/page title" and ID=100 would be "2010/10/27 page title".   Overall I am trying to write out a webpage to PDF. There is a web service that I can use to convert a file to pdf. So what I am trying to do is save out a webpage from the WebBrowser winforms control. I have already tried writing it out the document stream but that just gives me the html of the page and not the images that are used with it. Another way that I looked into, but have not been successful with, is trying to create an image of the WebBrowser document. I found some examples on the web that utilize the DrawToBitmap function but none of them have worked for me. Any assistance would be grateful.

  I get a segfault when trying to memset an array of chars that was allocated statically, but not for an array of the same length that was allocated using malloc. variable definitions: //static char inBuff[IN_BUFF_LEN]; //dynamic char * inBuffD; function call: //static, cast used because char** != char (*) [n] serverInit(portNum, (char**) &inBuff, &serv_addr, &sockfd) //dynamic serverInit(portNum, &inBuffD, &serv_addr, &sockfd) use within the function: memset(*inBuffAdr, 0, IN_BUFF_LEN); I suspect that my problem is in the difference of the function calls, or to be more precise, my incomplete understanding of the "char** != char (*) [n]" situation. But I have been banging at this for too long and can't see the forest from the trees so any hints and advice would be very appreciated.

• PHP exec error, possibly MAMP using ghostscript

  I have been trying to use ghostscript in PHP to convert pdf files to images (png, jpg). I don't really care as long as they are images. This is the code that I used. exec("gs -sDEVICE=jpeg -sOutputFile=/Applications/Mamp/htdocs/cover.jpg -r144 /Applications/Mamp/htdocs/test.pdf"); When I enter the exact same thing, without the exec and quotes obviously, into the command line it does exactly what I want. However, when I run the php file nothing happens. I am using a MAMP server and the server seems to work fine, whenever I run another file with it I have no issues. Anyone have any ideas why it might not execute right?
