• Why are my favorite websites becoming slower, over months?

  I spend a lot of my time at sites for watching online videos: youtube, gorillavid, thedailyshow.com etc. I used to watch the videos in full screen mode, and then that became very laggy. So, I started watching them with full-browser zooming. Then that became laggy. Recently, I've had to actually zoom out; otherwise, the video will lag so much that my PC locks. Could this be a symptom of my processor, RAM, or motherboard going bad? Has it, perhaps, anything to do with softwares like Chrome or the playeres the sites are using being updated?

  When I try to connect any HTTPS server with git, it gives following error: error: gnutls_handshake() failed: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received. while accessing ... fatal: HTTP request failed So I think that maybe some packages that related the gnutls_handshake has been broken. So I want to reinstall that packages, which packages can be related this errors? or how do I fix this kind of error?

• Should I use my real name in my open source project?

  I developed a few freeware programs in the past which I had signed with my pseudonym Jardo. I'm now planning to release my first open source project and was thinking of using my full real name in the project files (as the "author"). I thought it would be good to use my name as my "trademark" so if someone (perhaps a future headhunter) googles my name, they'll find my projects. But on the other side, I feel a bit paranoid about disclosing my name (in the least case I could be getting a lot of spam to my email, its not that hard to guess your private email from your name). What do you think can be "dangerous" on disclosing your full name? What are the pros and cons? Do you use your real name or a pseudonym in your projects? I read this question: What are the advantages and disadvantages to using your real name online? but that doesn't apply to me bacause it's about using your real name online (internet discussions, profiles, etc.) where I personally see no reason to use my real name... And there is also this question: Copyrighting software, templates, etc. under real name or screen name? which deals with creating a business or a brand which also doesn't apply to me because I will never sell/give away my open source project and if someone else joins in, they can write their name as co-author without any problems...

• What is this thing called?!?! (bottom of screen popup)

  I am looking for the name and some possible jquery libraries etc for the standard bottom of screen popup bar. Its like a little bar that pops out on the bottom of the screen after X seconds or however really - generally slides up, about 50px or so high, and usually the length of the main container. used for some form of coupon advertisement or various promotion text etc. What is the proper term for this item, and would there be any good references to best-use guidelines?

• Should the 12-String be in it's own class and why? Java

  This is my first question here. I will amend it as instructed. This is regarding a homework project in my first Java programming class (online program). The assignment is to create a "stringed instrument" class using (among other things) an array of String names representing instrument string names ("A", "E", etc). The idea for the 12-string is beyond the scope of the assignment (it doesn't have to be included at all) but now that I've thought of it, I want to figure out how to make it work. Part of me feels like the 12-String should have it's own class, but another part of me feels that it should be in the guitar class because it's a guitar. I suppose this will become clear as I progress but I thought I would see what kind of response I get here. Also, why would they ask for a String[] for the instrument string names? Seems like a char[] makes more sense. Thank you for any insight. • Color in Cygwin terminal

  I've installed cygwin because I'm a bit fed up with the Windows terminal not being great. The only problem I'm having is the lack of colours. You can see the problem in the following 2 screenshots that display the same command: All I want is something which has a nice font, resizes properly (including proper behaviour when maximised) and support for colours. Ideally I'd like tabs too. This seems like a silly reason to end up buying a mac, so I'm hoping I can get all these things on windows somehow.

• Using external monitor and screen resolution?

  it might sound very basic question but i need some help. I have lenovo Ideapad y560p which offers a maximum resolution of 1366px x 768px. Now i am planning to buy an external monitor, and i short listed some FULL HD resolution monitors, but it is my understanding that even with FULL HD, i would only achieve the best resolution my laptop supports. Is it true? And also if this is the case, should i really go for an HD monitor or settle down with a lower resolution version? 2ndly, is there any way to increase resolution with simple upgrade? or it is not possible without voiding the warranty??

  I'm getting 4 sec delay when sending objects over UDP. Working on small game and trying to implement multiplayer. For now just trying to synchronize movements of 2 balls on the screen. StartingPoint.java is my server(first player), that receiving serialized objects (coordinates). SecondPlayer.java is client that sending serialized objects to server. When I'm moving my first object it appears 4 seconds later on different screen. • Synergy over a LAN bridge in Windows 7 64-bit, connection timing out

  I haven't seen a question like this anywhere, so I hope it isn't a duplicate. Anyway, I have two computers, and one of them has its network connection through a LAN bridge in the other, which goes to a router. I want to set them up so that the one with the bridge is the server, and the other is the client. I followed the instructions to get everything set up, and the client keeps saying that the connection timed out. • What combination of soft to select? (your advice/opinion) [on hold]

  I'm thinking of upgrading my server soft along with OS. As of now, my VPS is running on Debian 6 with nginx (1.2.4) - apache (2.2.16). My VPS specs are 1Gb RAM, 2 cores of Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz. Now, here is the question. Which combo should I run? - nginx - apache (2.4.x) - PHP-fpm 5.5.x - nginx - apache (2.4.x) - mod_php 5.5.x - apache (2.4.x) - mod_php 5.5.x - apache (2.4.x) - PHP-fpm 5.5.x - nginx - PHP-fpm 5.5.x - nginx - mod_php 5.5.x I would really like some advice/opinion of people who are more experienced than me with these things. It's nothing big. Around 100-200k pageviews per month. I can also provide some screenshots of munin stats if needed.

• After software update, why is webmin showing wrong mySQL version?

  I did a full OS/package update on a server running webmin. Now when I go into webmin, it's showing the correct new version of Ubuntu, Apache, etc...but it's still showing the old version of mySQL. At the command line, if I enter mysql -v, it shows the correct new one, but it's just not getting recognized in webmin. I found a file at /etc/webmin/mysql called "version", and it's just a text file with the version number in it. So theoretically I could just change this and it would be fine. However, this obviously doesn't seem like how this should go. How should this file normally get updated? ETA: Services have all been restarted (in fact, there's been a full reboot). Sorry for not specifying this...it just seemed like the obvious first thing to do and not worth mentioning. :-)

• Win7 recognizing 100% of my RAM some places, not others.

  Before you go blaming it on a 32bit OS, I'm running Win7 64bit. I have 4x 1GB sticks of RAM installed. I recently RMA'd one stick and installed the replacement. It would seem that parts of my system are recognizing it and others aren't. Both System Properties and dxdiag show the full 4GB, but task manager and rainmeter are only reporting 3GB. What's numbers should I trust and how can I fix this? Here's screenshots of what I'm seeing.

• SMO ConnectionContext.StatementTimeout setting is ignored

  I am successfully using Powershell with SMO to backup most databases. However, I have several large databases in which I receive a "timeout" error "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired". The timout consistently occurs at 10 minutes. I have tried setting ConnectionContext.StatementTimeout to 0, 6000, and to [System.Int32]::MaxValue. The setting made no difference. I have found a number of Google references which indicate setting it to 0 makes it unlimited. No matter what I try, the timeouts consistently occur at 10 minutes. I even set Remote Query Timeout on the server to 0 (via Studio Manager) to no avail. Below is my SMO connection where I set the time out and the actual backup function. Further below is the output from my script. UPDATE Interestingly enough, I wrote the backup function in C# using VS 2008 and the timeout override does work within that environment. I am in the process of incorporating that C# process into my Powershell Script until I can find out why the timeout override does not work with just Powershell.   EDIT - Rewrote my original question to give a bit more information Background info At my work I'm working on a ASP.Net web application for our customers. In our implementation we use technologies like Forms authentication with MembershipProviders and RoleProviders. All went well until I ran into some difficulties with configuring the roles, because the roles aren't system-wide, but related to the customer accounts and projects. I can't name our exact setup/formula, because I think our company wouldn't approve that... What's a customer / project? Our company provides management information for our customers on a yearly (or other interval) basis. In our systems a customer/contract consists of: one Account: information about the Company per Account, one or more Products: the bundle of management information we'll provide per Product, one or more Measurements: a period of time, in which we gather and report the data Extranet site setup Eventually we want all customers to be able to access their management information with our online system. The extranet consists of two sites: Company site: provides an overview of Account information and the Products Measurement site: after selecting a Measurement, detailed information on that period of time The measurement site is the most interesting part of the extranet. We will create submodules for new overviews, reports, managing and maintaining resources that are important for the research. Our Visual Studio solution consists of a number of projects. One web application named Portal for the basis. The sites and modules are virtual directories within that application (makes it easier to share MasterPages among things). What kind of roles? The following users (read: roles) will be using the system: Admins: development users :) (not customer related, full access) Employees: employees of our company (not customer related, full access) Customer SuperUser: top level managers (full access to their account/measurement) Customer ContactPerson: primary contact (full access to their measurement(s)) Customer Manager: a department manager (limited access, specific data of a measurement) What about ASP.Net users? The system will have many ASP.Net users, let's focus on the customer users: Users are not shared between Accounts SuperUser X automatically has access to all (and new) measurements User Y could be Primary contact for Measurement 1, but have no role for Measurement 2 User Y could be Primary contact for Measurement 1, but have a Manager role for Measurement 2 The department managers are many individual users (per Measurement), if Manager Z had a login for Measurement 1, we would like to use that login again if he participates in Measurement 2. (finally ;)) Roles aren't enough to determine what a user is allowed to see/access/download a specific item. It's not enough to say that a certain navigation item is accessible to Managers. When the user requests Measurement 1000, we have to check that the user not only has a Manager role, but a Manager role for Measurement 1000. Summarized: How can we limit users to their accounts/measurements? (remember superusers see all measurements, some managers only specific measurements) How can we apply roles at a product/measurement level? (user X could be primarycontact for measurement 1, but just a manager for measurement 2) How can we limit manager access to the reports screen and only to their department's reports? All with the magic of asp.net classes, perhaps with a custom roleprovider implementation. The type element under the email-address element is set to primary when this is true. There may be more than one element under the email-addresses but only one will be marked primary. What is the simplest approach to take here? • SuperMicro BMC on OpenSuSE Linux --cannot access from LAN

  Hi, I have an (old) SMC-001 IPMI device on an (old) X6DVL-EG2 motherboard. My problem is that I cannot access the BMC from LAN. I'm also getting some interesting output from ipmitool. First, the setup. I enable Console Redirection in the BIOS, turn BIOS Redirection after POSt to "disabled". I then modprobe'ed for ipmi_msghandler, ipmi_devintf and ipmi_si. I then found ipmi0 under /dev. So far so good. Since I want console redirection over serial, I modified /boot/grub/menu.lst: http://pastebin.com/YYJmhusQ I then modified "/etc/inittab" as follows: S1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 19200 ttyS1 ansi Networking I set as following, using "ipmitool" ipaddr: 192.168.3.164 netmask: 255.255.255.0 defgw: 192.168.3.1 The above are correct for my environment. • CORS Fails on CloudFront Distribution with Nginx Origin

  I have a CloudFront distribution set up with an Nginx server as the origin (a Media Temple DV server, to be specific). I enabled the Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * header so fonts will work in Firefox. However, Firefox throws a CORS error for fonts loaded from this CloudFront/Nginx distribution. I created another CloudFront distribution, this time with an Apache server as the origin, and set Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * also. Firefox displays fonts from this origin without issue. • Linksys/Cisco Small Business SRW-Series (ie SRW248G4) - Overcoming the Limitations

  We just purchased a Cisco/Linksys SRW 248G4 switch to try it out. We have always had unmanaged switches before, and this is our first "somewhat managed" switch. So far the major limitations are: Only Internet Explorer 6 (manual says IE 5.5!) works for the web interface SSH exists but is not practically useable because the only key length that is supported is no longer even used by most modern SSH installs. (I get the error "RSA modulus too small" in openssh 4.x/5.x) This is with the latest firmware revision, I believe, although Cisco's website does not actually tell you what version you're downloading. All in all, I think, they must be trying to tell me that if I want a good-quality switch, I shouldn't buy these SRWs and should buy a Dell or an HP ProCurve, or save up my pennies, and buy a Catalyst. The question here, then, at long last: Has anyone gotten the web-browser to work via some IE 7 or IE 8 compatibility mode settings or used another browser (Opera? KDE/Safari/WebKit?) and spoofed IE6? Is there any way to get the SSH key length upgraded? I'm guessing a 0% chance of a yes on that last one. I found an XP machine, used telnet (via PuttyTel.exe) and IE6 to set this up, and I doubt we'll have to touch it again. Which is fine with us. But it would be nice if I could administer this thing from either (a) a linux box, or (b) my primary desktop which is windows 7. It looks like XPMode with IE6 on the virtual XP machine may be my only way to administer this type of switch via the web.

  I inserted a rule to iptables to track the input usage to a certain ip address. The vps server's IP is 192.168.1.5 and the guest os's IP is 192.168.1.115. I ran 'yum update' inside the guest OS to get some network traffic. Then I ran iptables -vnL from the hypervisor. However it only showed network usage to the host, but not to the guest. • Inbound SIP calls through Cisco 881 NAT hang up after a few seconds

  I've recently moved to a Cisco 881 router for my WAN link. I was previously using a Cisco Linksys WAG320N as my modem/router/WiFi AP/NAT firewall. The WAG320N is now running in bridged mode, so it's simply acting as a modem with one of it's LAN ports connected to FE4 WAN on my Cisco 881. The Cisco 881 get's a DHCP provided IP from my ISP. My LAN is part of default Vlan 1 (192.168.1.0/24). General internet connectivity is working great, I've managed to setup static NAT rules for my HTTP/HTTPS/SMTP/etc. services which are running on my LAN. I don't know whether it's worth mentioning that I've opted to use NVI NAT (ip nat enable as opposed to the traditional ip nat outside/ip nat inside) setup. My reason for this is that NVI allows NAT loopback from my LAN to the WAN IP and back in to the necessary server on the LAN. I run an Asterisk 1.8 PBX on my LAN, which connects to a SIP provider on the internet. Both inbound and outbound calls through the old setup (WAG320N providing routing/NAT) worked fine. However, since moving to the Cisco 881, inbound calls drop after around 10 seconds, whereas outbound calls work fine. (I know that this is quite a common issue - I've spend the best part of 2 days solid on this, trawling Google.) I've done as I am told and checked https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/SIP+Retransmissions. Referring to the section "Other SIP requests" in the page linked above, I believe that the hangup to be caused by the ACK from my SIP provider not being passed back through NAT to Asterisk on my PBX. I tried to ascertain this by dumping the packets on my WAN interface on the 881. I managed to obtain a PCAP dump of packets in/out of my WAN interface. Here's an example of an ACK being reveived by the router from my provider: 689 21.219999 193.x.x.x 188.x.x.x SIP 502 Request: ACK sip:[email protected] | However a SIP trace on the Asterisk server show's that there are no ACK's received in response to the 200 OK from my PBX: http://pastebin.com/wwHpLPPz In the past, I have been strongly advised to disable any sort of SIP ALGs on routers and/or firewalls and the many posts regarding this issue on the internet seem to support this. However, I believe on Cisco IOS, the config command to disable SIP ALG is no ip nat service sip udp port 5060 however, this doesn't appear to help the situation. To confirm that config setting is set: Router1#show running-config | include sip no ip nat service sip udp port 5060 Another interesting twist: for a short period of time, I tried another provider. Luckily, my trial account with them is still available, so I reverted my Asterisk config back to the revision before I integrated with my current provider. I then dialled in to the DDI associated with the trial trunk and the call didn't get hung up and I didn't get the error above! To me, this points at the provider, however I know, like all providers do, will say "There's no issues with our SIP proxies - it's your firewall." I'm tempted to agree with this, as this issue was not apparent with the old WAG320N router when it was doing the NAT'ing. I'm sure you'll want to see my running-config too: ! !
