• HP Pavilion dv6000 graphics issue

  A few days ago my laptop seized up on me while I was playing a game. When I restarted the computer, it sent me back to 640x480 resolution with 16 colors (clearly a graphical issue). In device manager, it shows an error, stating "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" regarding the video card. Upon removing and re-installing the drivers using both Windows Update and my own searching through nvidia's site, it's given me zero results. For kicks, I ran my antivirus (you never know!) and registry cleaner to see if anything would turn up. The antivirus found nothing, but CCleaner found 27 registry errors all dealing with my video card. What could be the cause of this, and what course of action would you recommend in this situation? • Node.js appears to be missing the multipart module

  I am trying to parse form data, including upload files with a node.js http server. All of the tutorial type articles I have found use a require("multipart"); to include the multipart module, but when I try the same I get: Error: Cannot find module 'multipart' I also can't find it in the current api docs (though it is in the google cached version). So, has this module been removed from the standard installation or is there something else that does the job?

• Large file uploads from web pages

  Hi folks, I code primarily in PHP and Perl. I have a client who is insisting on seeking video submissions (any encoding) from the public via one of their pages rather than letting YouTube do its job. Server in question is a virtual machine and I can adjust ini settings for max post, max upload size etc as needed. My initial thought is to use a Flash based uploader with PHP on the back end but I wondered if someone might have useful advice and experience on the subject? Peace JG

• My powerpoint seems working in right-to-left

  I don't seem to find a way to switch it off. See picture. There seems to be no way to say the paragraph is not RTL. There are addable RTL buttons in the customize ribbon dialog, but they are grayed in ribbon cfg view, even though buttons that are actually there are also grayed in the same way. Looks like there's no way to get some other buttons shown on the office ribbon. I already found how to do it with VBA, but I find no way of doing it from UI and I spent much time searching and trying. Am I senile?

• Help setting up NSD daemon (DNS server)

  While searching for a secure dns server I came across the NSD project. I was really impressed by what seemed to me the best option out there that's open source. One problem thought their 'tutorial' is really not beginner friendly. I have basic DNS knoledge but what's in there is out of my league. I need to have multiple sites on this CentOS server I've recently got my hands on. They also need to receive email. Details: I have a master host and would love to set this in the way described in the rows that follow: masterhost.com -> ns1.masterhost.com mail.masterhost.com www.masterhost.com addonhost.com -> ns1.masterhost.com mail.masterhost.com www.addonhost.com And so on. • USB MFP print server that works with Windows x64?

  Right now, we are using the Longshine LCS-MFP101-2 to connect to our MFP device (printer/scanner combo) over LAN. However, the required driver (RMVUSB, Remote Virtual USB) cannot be installed on 64 bit Windows operating systems such as Windows XP x64 or Windows 7 x64. Since the distributor lists the product as "phased out", I do not expect any updated 64 bit drivers any time soon. :/ Because of that, I am searching for a relatively cheap SOHO MFP print server (1 USB port should be enough) which can be used with 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows. Do you have any ideas or recommendations? Thanks!

• Do i need a dedicated server for load balancing?

  I'm completely new to the concept of load balancing so i hope this question isn't a "stupid question" because i've been searching around and im having a hard time understanding this. So to my understanding, in order to load balance, i need a separate machine with an ip address i can direct all traffic to. I initially thought i needed to rent 3 dedicated servers, one for load balancing and the other two as backend servers. Would a dedicated server be too much for a load balancer or do hosting companies have special types of computers for that process? Then i read somewhere else that i can install a load balance software in both of the two servers and configure it in a way that doesn't require me to rent another machine/dedicated server for load balancing. So im a bit confuse on how to actually implement a load balancer and whether or not i need a dedicated server for the sole purpose of acting as a load balancing machine. Also, i was recommended to use HAproxy so i'll be heading that direction for load balancing.

• Making Windows Explorer to Search WebDAV Server using DASL

  I am trying to setup search in a WebDAV repository in IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 R2. I successfully configured WebDAV in IIS and enabled my repository indexing as described in Searching WebDAV Directories (IIS 6.0) I have verified that search is now supported by my WebDAV server, in OPTIONS request I can see DASL support: DASL: <DAV:sql> DAV: 1, 2 Public: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD, DELETE, PUT, POST, COPY, MOVE, MKCOL, PROPFIND, PROPPATCH, LOCK, UNLOCK, SEARCH Allow: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD, DELETE, COPY, MOVE, PROPFIND, PROPPATCH, SEARCH, MKCOL, LOCK, UNLOCK I connected to my WebDAV server from a client computer, which is Windows 8.1 and WebDAV is working well. I mounted a drive and connected using \\server@port\DawWWWRoot as described here. However my client computer, which is Windows 7, does not generate any search request. I have captured requests using Fiddler tool and found that Windows Explorer is not sending any search requests, instead it is sending a PROPFIND and downloading files. How do I make Windows Explorer to send SEARCH request to my WebDAV server?

• Automatically backing up a file to another server?

  I have a backup created of my mysql database (vbulletin forum v3.8) everyday. It's about 360mb in size. It's stored as one text file in a secure folder. I'm thinking of getting another server, through a different host, and somehow automatically transferring the backup to my second server every day. Any ideas on how I could automate this process? I'm thinking PHP and a cron job.

• Cannot install any Feature/Role on Windows 2008 R2 Standard

  I was trying to install Exchange 2010 prerequisites, when I encountered some error. All look like the same. Like this one: Error: Installation of [Windows Process Activation Service] Configuration APIs failed. the server needs to be restarted to undo the changes. My server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. UPDATE: I tried installing the prerequisites one by one using PowerShell. Now I have errors on RPC over Http proxy: Installation of [Web Server (IIS)] Tracing Failed, Attempt to install tracing failed with error code 0x80070643. Fatal error during installation. Searching about the error code doesn't tell me much more than something went wrong when trying to update windows. Installing Http Tracing alone also doesn't make any difference.

  I am searching for a way to type a keyword in the start menu Search programs and files field and that it will return the application that match the keyword. An example will better explain this: Suppose that I want to start the powershell. Currently what I can type in the search field is power and the first item that appear is the 64bits powershell shortcut. Now suppose that I'd like ps to return powershell as the first item of the search list. Currently, typing ps return all files with the .ps extension, alongs with a control panel options about recording steps but not the powershell executable itself. How can I do that?

• Disable Windows Media Player "media server" network locations

  I'm running Windows 8 and in the Computer menu, I see a huge list of "media server" network locations of many of the PCs in my network (most running Windows 7). Is there a way to either locally disable this so I don't see this list every time, or disable this sharing feature on the other computers? I've tried disabling "Media Streaming options" from the Network and Sharing Center (on my PC), but that had no effect. Another thing I tried was enabling Media Streaming, but then selecting all the found clients and clicking Blocked in the list of found clients. That had no effect in removing the list either. I've also attempted disabling the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, but alas, the list remains. I'm starting to believe there's a magic registry key to unbury and flip to a "1", but all the searching I've done has come up empty.

  Upgraded hard drive in Lenovo T61P; decided to start fresh with Windows 7 Pro. Windows installed, so DVD drive was working. All of a sudden, driver is not recognized. Device is "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U10N ATA Device". It appears on device manager but with the yellow tag; have tried uninstalling, searching for drivers, everything I can think of. Cannot even start over with Windows 7 installation disk because disk spins but then stops and My Computer does not recognize the drive. Help please. thank you. David Lacher

• Rerouting traffic from port 80 to another port on a single ip

  I have a server with multiple IP addresses associated with it. I'm trying to run a node.js web server (which I do not want to run as root), using only one of those ip addresses (it would be very bad if the traffic from all the ip addresses were forwarded). Through searching superuser, it looked like this could be possible with iptables: How to setting up iptables for traffic fowarding on port 80 from specific sources iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 80 --source 212.333.111.222 -j REDIRECT --to-port 9020 However, I do not understand why eth0 is needed. According to: http://blog.softlayer.com/2011/iptables-tips-and-tricks-port-redirection/ this could be done with: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 2525 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 25 What is the correct way of forwarding traffic from a single ip on port 80, lets say 111.111.111.111:80 to another port on the same server, lets say 111.111.111.111:8765? thanks for your help!

  interestingly I have not found any good searchresults when searching for "OpenVPN vs IPSec": I need to setup a private LAN over an untrusted network. And as far as I know, both approaces seem to be valid. But I do not know which one is better. I would be very thankfull If you can list the pro's and con's of both approaches and maybe your suggestions and experiences what to use. Update (Regarding the comment/question): In my concrete case the goal is to have any number of Servers (with static IPs) be connected transparently with each other. But a small portion of "dynamic clients like road warriors" (with dynamic IPs) should also be able to connect. The main goal is however having a "transparent secure network" run top of untrusted network. I am quite a newbie so I do not know how to correctly interprete "1:1 Point to Point Connections" = The solution should support Broadcasts and all that stuff so it is a fully functional network... • SQL Server 2008 Install fails error reading etwcls.mof

  I receive the following error when trying to install Sql Server 2008 Standard on a Windows Server 2008 box. Error reading from file D:\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\MSSQL.X\MSSQL\Binn\etwcls.mof. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. When searching the interwebs I only find information about compiling this file but not reading. The file exists in the location requested. I have run the WMIDiag tool and there doesn't seem to be any issues. I am not sure what else I can do to solve this issue and can't seem to find anything on the internet about it. • Limiting software installation to specific user(s)

  Is there a way to limit software installation to one particular user or to a specific set of users only? In some software installers, this is available as an option, but in most cases the software just gets installed on all user profiles. I'd like to know if there's a way to prevent that. This will be for computers running Windows XP, Vista, and 7. • Using Hudson to build RPM packages.

  I've a C project set up in Hudson doing nighly builds, i've also an .rpm spec file used for creating rpms from these sources. Does anyone have any experience on how to build rpms out of all this using Hudson ? Right now the only solution I see is to set up a job running a script that checks svn exports the sources ,creates a tarball and does the whole rpm build. This doesn't seem to integrate well with Hudson - e.g. how do I collect the artifacts ?

• Can I use a mini PCI-E card in a standard motherboard with PCI/PCI Express slots?

  I'm helping someone build a computer and they absolutely insist on having an internal Bluetooth adapter. I've been searching around for a PCI-E/PCI based Bluetooth adapter but I've had no luck finding one - I've found some discontinued ones but they have giant antennas coming out the back - the person I'm building the computer for doesn't want that. I've been repeatedly insisting on him simply getting a USB Bluetooth dongle, but he doesn't want one taking up his external USB slots. This is the motherboard I'm using for his build: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157303 My question is if it's possible to use one of those laptop PCI-E cards in a motherboard like this that has PCI-E and PCI slots, or if the form factor is completely different and won't fit?
