• Client-based program to track response time for online webservice

  I am helping a customer with general IT support, and they have a problem with a hosted web-based system being slow. The provider of the system blames the client's computer, and the client calls me for help. I blame the provider, but it is hard to get them to do something about it without rock-solid evidence. And every time the provider comes around for a TeamViewer session, everything of course runs smoothly. Does there exist a client program or browser plugin that tracks statistics about response time for specific web services?

• LAN cable not connected, but it is

  I have a Windows XP SP2 desktop PC. It connects to the internet with a LAN cable (there's a wireless router for my laptop in between). The problem should be software because: when i tried connecting the same LAN cable to my laptop it works when i plugin the LAN cable (onboard) the green light is on and the orange light flickers when i tried the other cable (that feeds the wireless router) i have the same problem it worked a few days ago, nothing specific changed I tried removing the ethernet card from the device manager, and windows automatically reinstalled it. What could cause this? What can I try?

• Netbeans: Install/Activate/Uninstall/Deactivate plugins buttons disabled

  I recently installed Netbeans 6.9 on a new computer. I went to install the NB Android plugin, which I have on another computer, but I found most of the functionality of the plugins window disabled. The install, uninstall, activate, and deactivate buttons are grayed out. I have included images at the bottom. This hasn't happened to me before, and searching Google hasn't turned up anything useful. I thought it might have been a permission problem so I tried running Netbeans with gksudo but that didn't help. I also thought it might have been something wonky with the Ubuntu Software Center install, so I uninstalled that one, and downloaded Netbeans from the main site and I installed it in my home directory, but it does the same thing. I'm running Xubuntu 10.10 and Netbeans 6.9.1 Available Plugins Tab It won't let me add more than one hyperlink due to a lack of reputation. Installed Tab - http + i.imgur.com/Nhqi4.png

• Hearing repeated sound in Linux mint Chrome Browser

  I am using Linux mint OS since an Year , I use to consistently download updates and install , I use chrome as a default browser , when ever I open youtube and watch some video , I listen to some repetition in sound ( say repeated lyrics of song ) while it is playing , In firefox it is working fine . What is the problem am I missing any plugin , AFAIK Chrome doesn't need a flash player plug in , It has a built in flash player . IS that the problem ? And also previously I was not facing this , recently I started using Cinimon UI centOS after this all these kind of problems started MY hard ware is 64 bit intel core i3 and also I have installed linux mint 64 bit Please let me know what is the problem and how to fix this .   I'm trying to play music through Ventrilo and currently I use Virtual Audio Cable. The way it works is that in foobar2000 (a music playing program) I set the output device in preferences to Virtual Audio Cable. Then in Ventrilo I log in to another name and set the input device to Virtual Audio Cable. This routes the music through the Virtual Audio Cable and allows me to play the music through Ventrilo. However, I would also like to change the output device for Firefox (or any other browser) or "Plugin Container for Firefix" to Virtual Audio Cable so that I could play music from Pandora or YouTube on to Ventrilo. Unfortunately I could not find an option for this anywhere.

• Is it possible to rewrite some query strings to HTTPS and keep everything else on HTTP?

  I'm rewriting query strings to pretty URIs, example: index.php?q=/en/contact becomes /en/contact and all works nicely.. # httpd.conf # HANDLE THE QUERY RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA] Is it even possible to rewrite single queries to force https and force everything else onto http? I've tried many different approaches that typically end in infinate loops. I could write a plugin to do this in PHP but figured it would be more effecient to handle this in the server conf. I'd be greatful for any advice. EDIT: To clarify, I'd like to be able to rewrite the non SSL http://example.com/index.php?q=/en/contact to the SSL enabled https://example.com/en/contact and every query that is not /en/contact get written to http://example.com/...

• WordPress - Open Link in New Windows Default

  Hey SuperUsers, is it possible to make some sort of change or add a plugin that allows me to make every 'external' link open in a new window? Just an example: if my blog was called http//timmy.com/ and I wanted to link to http//tom.com/, it would open a new window instead of the same window, but I wanted to link from http//timmy.com/ to http//timmy.com/somewhere/ in the same window. So I want all external link from my website to another in a new window/tab, but I want every internal link, from my website to somewhere else on my website, to be in the same window/tab. Is this possible?

• Why are there two types of Adobe Flash Player download / update?

  Adobe Flash Player checks for updates at startup. If updates are required the Adobe dialog pops up with a [Download] button. Usually when I hit the [Download] button it downloads it straight away with a progress bar that zips across the dialog. I then get the option to install it. All good. However, sometimes when I hit the [Download] button it takes me to the website: https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/update/plugin/ Which presents me with an [Update now] button (and to install McAfee!). What is this for? Why didn't it download and install in the "usual" way? So, why are there apparently two different update methods for what appears to be the same thing? One is nice and swish and integrated into the updater, the other more long winded. In fact, I don't [Update now] when it takes me to the website, because I'm like "Hey, what's this?!"

• Vim - dynamic list of open buffers in a window

  I've investigated a few ways to maintain a list of open buffers in Vim, and some of them are very good, but none of them seem to behave the way I'd like. It's very possible that nothing like what I want exists, and it can't hurt to ask. I've been using NERDTree in GVim, and I like the idea of putting the information in a slender left-hand window. • Can installing URL Rewrite 2.0 on production IIS 7.5 have a negative impact?

  We have a Windows 2008 R2 server with IIS 7.5 and a lot of customer websites. Being no sys-admin but a developer, I hate to touch that wonderfully running system. However, I'd like to update the IIS plugin URL Rewrite to version 2.0 via Web Platform Installer. I do not want to do anything that might compromise the server, hence the question: can I expect it to work with at least a 99% chance? I did not find any bug reports or reviews on the web, so I'd like to hear an expert on that.

  I have been working on a small project where need to copy files from one windows machine to another through jenkins in a secure way. I have heard about publish over ssh plugin in Jenkins. I tried to set that up but no luck. Did anybody do that and help me in that? Even to resolve it, i had installed openssh with cygwin on both the windows server and tried to copy the files (through SCP) or just connect both hosts (through ssh) in linux way through cygwin but always gets error of - ssh 3612 tty_list::allocate_tty: No tty allocated or scp 2680 tty_list::allocate_tty: No tty allocated Please help!

• Meta refresh tag not working in (my) firefox?

  Code like on this page does not work in (my) Firefox 3.6 and also not in Fx4 (WinXPsp3) Works in IE8, Safari 5, Opera 11, Mozilla 1.7, Chrome 9 <meta http-equiv=refresh content="12; URL=meta2.htm"> <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="1; URL=http://fully_qualified_url.com/page2.html"> are completely ignored Not that I use such back-button killing things, but a LOT of sites do, possibly including my linux apache it seems when it wants to show a 503 error page... If I firebug or look at generated content, I do not see the refresh tag changed in any way so I am really curious what kind of plugin/addon could block me which is why I googled (in vain) for a known bug... In about:config I have accessibility.blockautorefresh; false so that is not it. I ran in safe mode and OH MY GOD, STACKEXCHANGE IS FULL OF ADS but no redirect

• Server monitoring for medium scale UNIX network

  I'm looking for suggestions for a good monitoring tools, or tools, to handle a mixed Linux (RedHat 4-5) and HPUX environment. Currently we are using Hobbit which is working reasonably well but it is becoming harder to keep track of what alerts are sent out for what servers. Features I'd like to see: Easy configuration of servers. The ability to monitor CPU, network, memory, and specific processes I've looked into Nagios but from what I have seen it won't be easy to set up the configuration for all of our servers ~200 and that without installing a plugin into each agent I won't be able to monitor processes.

  Hi, I would like to draw diagrams using Open Office but I didn't find any installed by default. What I am exactly looking for are diagrams that look like the ones that come with MS Office 2007/2010 (like Pyramid diagrams, Star diagrams etc.). Any idea? A plugin to install? • How to let users change linux password from web browser?

  I'm not sure if this is a stackoverflow question or serverfault but here goes: I have an Ubuntu 10.04 file server (Samba/FTP/HTTP) and I would like to have the ability to give users the ability to change their password to the server using their web browser. I've written a similar script before using PHP and a mess of exec but I believe that isn't secure because it can be listened to by someone looking at the list of processes on the server. Is there some kind of plugin (PHP or Python or other) that can do this easily? I rather not use something like webmin as it's overkill for this.

I'm looking for Real-Time chat translation tools for Mac, and preferably using Adium, but it could be for Skype, iChat or maybe another option if it's really good. So far I could only easily find a plugin for Adium, simply called translator, that uses google, dicts and babelfish, but you have to type commands in and paste the words or sentences, and it's currently not even working on Snow Leopard. Even if it did, it's still not quite as automatic as we'd expect (or see in other platforms as indicated). So I'm just citing it as an example of a bad solution.

• Install Eclipse / StatET on Debian server for all users.

  I've manually downloaded, unpacked and installed the latest Eclipse (3.6.1) on a debian server (2.6.26-2-amd64). Eclipse can now be run by all users in our group, but when I tried to install the StatET plugin, I quickly found out that this one was only visible and useable for me. I have a sudo password on my account and a root password. I wondered if sudo eclipse was all I needed to do, but as I'm very new to the whole sysadmin thing (our old one is on "prolonged leave" and currently working in Spain) I rather check before blowing up the server. Any help on how to configure Eclipse for all users simultaneously is very much appreciated.

• Looking for temporal upsampling / motion interpolation software

  I'm looking for something (prereably FOSS software) which can take an animation with N images as input, and which will output an animation with M frames, where M is in the range 2N to 5N or so. I believe the general technique is called "temporal upsampling" or possibly "inbetweening" (or "'tweening" for short). Note that it does need to make some effort to do motion tracking of things in the scene ("optical flow"); just fading ("dissolve") between keyframes isn't going to cut it. Googling "temporal upsampling" turns up any number of papers on the subject, but I've yet to discover any code/software (a gstreamer plugin would be perfect) I can just use to try the technique out. Any suggestions ? Additional information: "Motion interpolation" seems to be the more widely used name in the TV world for what I'm looking for. See this and the video here too. Interestingly, some cinephiles seem to hate what these technologies do to 24FPS film: e.g a comment "makes Gone With The Wind look like a soap opera shot on video".

• MySQL takes forever after running certain php scripts... optimization help?

  When I run a couple scripts from the vBulletin software (like uninstalling a plugin) it takes forever. When monitoring the memory usage, it shows this = -/+ buffers/cache: 158 381 Swap: 255 10 245 It seems that MySQL is only using a certain amount and once it does it tries to use the swap instead? I have a 512MB slice and right now my key buffer is at 16M and max_allowed_packet is at 16M. Is there something else I should increase or can I increase those variables and still be safe? Thanks.

  I can ALT+TAB to Chrome, then CTRL+T to a new tab, then type my request and hit ENTER, but then when I want to look into the first search result I need to take my hand off the keyboard to click it?? Surely someone can recommend a plugin which enables me to just press 1 to go to the first search result, 2 for the second, etc. Or something like that? EDIT: This Greasemonkey script offers precisely what I want, and appears to install perfectly well on Chrome - but doesn't work at all :( Also, I'm using Google Chrome 4.0.249.43 on 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10.

• Second monitor not detected

  Hi I have two VGA monitors, my GPU is ATI PowerColor 6850 which has two DVI slots, I use adapters for both VGA monitors. If I connect any the two monitors in the first slot it will work right away (along the plugin confirmation sound). And if I connect any of both monitors to the second slot I won't get anything, nor a signal or confirmation sound. I also tried auto detecting via Catalyst Control Center and Windows Desktop Resolution. I have the latest drivers installed. EDIT: I found this on the Spec Description: Display Connectors DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D And in NewEgg: 2 x DVI (1 Single Link, 1 Dual Link) Could this have anything to do with my issue?

• Why am I getting 'undefined method' exceptions when executing 'run_list add', 'run_list remove' and 'rackspace server delete'?

  [Originally posted this to opscode forum, got no response] I’m testing out a free hosted chef-server account and multiple subcommands are failing with ‘Unexpected Errors’. Perhaps my version and the server version are incompatible? OS: Ubuntu 12.04LTS Local Chef: 10.12.0 (Installed through gem) Local Ruby: 1.8.7 Also, the workstation machine has been manually configured, but the client(s) I’ve been experimenting with are launched with the Rackspace plugin (using ‘knife rackspace server create…’) The problem commands seem to fail when talking to the host chef-server, however, before it ever tries to modify the client, so I don’t believe that’s where the problem exists. The virtual-servers that are launched by ‘knife rackspace server create’ are launched properly but then deleting them with knife fails. If I include a recipe in the run_list when I create the server, the recipe is properly added to the run_list. If I try to add it later or remove the one that there server was initialized with, those commands fail. • How can I update Firefox add-ons automatically?

  Similar to this question, is it possible to update installed plugins via the command line? I'm running YSlow with beacon reporting as a nightly cron job under OSX: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -no-remote -P YSlow http://www.example.com/ & PID=$! sleep 300 kill $PID This dumps FF into the background and grabs the PID, waits 300 seconds (for the page to load) then kills it. If there is an update pending, the browser "hangs" waiting for a confirmation. If I do click on the "install updates" link, everything works and then Firefox launches a new process - the $! returned by the shell is no longer valid. Can I update a plugin from the command line without confirmation? Can I curl the XPI into a file and install it without confirmation?
