• VS2010 converted project invalid reference

  Opening a .Net 2 project in VS2010 it converts the project without any issues BUT when I attempt to build it fails. The reason is that in VS2005 a reference was added to System.Web.Extensions which is a .Net 3.5 assembly. Now VS2005 never complained at this and quite happily worked but VS2010 is far more strict and won't allow it. I've tried changing the targeted framework to .Net 3.5 but I get another situation there where the web page is never displayed, it simply hangs not even getting to Applicatin_OnStart. Any help either on adding the reference with .Net 2 as target framework (prefered option for time) or getting the .Net 3.5 version to work would be greatly appreciated.

• DIV Overlaying DIV, links in backmost DIV non-accessible

  I have a photoshop image that is 500x600 that I am using as a background image for the first div. The second div sits over top of the first div and is populated with images. The z-index of the first div is set to 100. The effect is the photoshop image sits over top of all of the smaller images. The photoshop image is a letter with the inner-content of it set to be transparent and the small images create the filling. Each of the small images however is a link, but none of the links are accessible. How can I remedy that? I would post the code here, but I have absolutely no clue how to format it. I quite simply do not understand typing a backtick followed by the tab key and then a dollar sign. All that ends up is I type a backtick here followed by a dollar sign in the Tags section below.

• Layout components Horizontally in Android

  Greetings all, I am trying to create a layout in Android for a notification. My goal is to have the following displayed: 1: Icon for the app 2: Vertically stacked LinearLayout with Session title and Room to be held in 3: The start time of the session The problem I am facing is that #2 has a variable width depending on the size of the title. Hardcoding a width would look terrible if the user turns the handset sideways and goes into Landscape mode. Therefore here is my question: How can I layout three components horizontally in Android such that #1 and #3 are left and right aligned respectively, and #2 simply takes the space remaining? • 2 questions about drag and drop with Javascript

  Hello, I'm trying to be able to drag random highlighted text or images on a random page that is not written by me, thus I cannot simply wrap the text in a div and make it draggable. Is there any way to get highlighted text or images on a random page, like say Yahoo, and drop it into a container that can recognize what was being dropped into it (like content and content-type) without it even being an explicitly declared draggable? I've been playing with jQuery, but can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, David

So, it would be nice if anyone could name a way how to put an attribute inside of the metaclass which is able to be read when new is executed.   I'm using Python and I'm not trying to extract the value, but rather test to make sure it fits the pattern. allowed values: spam123-spam-eggs-eggs1 spam123-eggs123 spam 123 eggs123 I just can't have a dash at the starting or the end. There is a question on here that works in the opposite direction by getting the string value after the fact, but I simply need to test for the value so that I can disallow it. Also, it can be a maximum of 25 chars long, but a minimum of 4 chars long. Here's what I've come up with after some experimentation with lookbehind, etc: # Nothing here

  I wanted to check the status of running Django on the Google App Engine currently and what the benefits of running django on GAE over simply using Webapp. Django main killer feature, IMHO, is the reuseable apps and middleware. Unfortunately, most current Django apps use models or model forms (django-tags, django-reviews, django-profiles, Pinax apps). So what are the remaining features or benefits that django has that can still run in Google App Engine (other than what's disabled: the popular django apps, session and authentication middleware, users and admin, models, etc). Also, is there a list of the Django apps that work in App Engine as well?

• what is the best way to generate fake data for classification problem ?

  i'm working on a project and i have a subset of user's key-stroke time data.This means that the user makes n attempts and i will use these recorded attempt time data in various kinds of classification algorithms for future user attempts to verify that the login process is done by the user or some another person. (Simply i can say that this is biometrics) I have 3 different times of the user login attempt process, ofcourse this is subset of the infinite data. until now it is an easy classification problem, i decided to use WEKA but as far as i understand i have to create some fake data to feed the classification algorithm. can i use some optimization algorithms ? or is there any way to create this fake data to get min false positives ? • How do I get the "Install Missing Plugin" yellow bar to appear in firefox when flash is not installe

  My rails website uses the open_flash_graph plugin to generate flash graphs for my clients. If a customer doesn't have flash installed, it doesn't display any messages, it simply doesn't show any graphs. I've noticed that if I go to other websites that need flash, I get a yellow bar at the top of my firefox window that offers to "Install Missing Plugin". I assume something in the HTML lets firefox know that this webpage needs flash. What code do I need to add to my website to make this work?

• Can django's auth_user.username be varchar(75)?

  Django's auth_user.username field is 30 characters. That means you can't have auth_user.username store an email address. If you want to have users authenticate based on their email address it would seem you have to do some wonky stuff like writing your own authentication backend which authenticates based on (email, password) instead of (username, password) and furthermore, figuring out what you're going to put in the username field since it is required and it is a primary key. Do you put a hash in there, do you try to put the id in there... bleh! Why should you have to write all this code and consider edge cases simply because username is too small for your (farily common) purposes? Is there anything wrong with running alter table on auth_user to make username be varchar(75) so it can fit an email? What does that break if anything?

• Does Google's Geocoding API return results that are more accurate than Google Maps or the same?

  I am thinking about using python or C++ in conjunction with google's geocoding API. Since geocoding is the process of turning street addresses into coordinates, I was wondering how google does this. I am looking for something that will give me coordinates that are around 50 meters away from the entrance of the location at a specified address. There are a few problems with this when you use google maps however. If you aren't doing it manually, sometimes google maps will place a marker for an address just on the road and not over the place (especially for addresses in malls, places far off the road, etc). Does the geocoding api give you more accurate coordinates or does it simply copy the coordinates of what a google maps marker would give you? I hope this makes sense. Thanks.

  Just learning how Open-ESB (GlassFishESB) works and evaluating it for a project. One point I do not understand is that if I have a Composite application bound to an incoming web service (hosted on the glassfish server) can I get muple composite applications to consume this message ? If so is it done by A) simply deploying the multiple composite applications each referencing the save URL and same WSDL B) include each JBI module in the CASA editor and deploy a single composite application with all parts included (will this reduce scaling?) C) create a new composite application which has a BPEL process to send the in message to new endpoints for each compisite applciation . My feeling is that option A should work?

• Marker Recognition on Android (recognising Rubik's Cubes)

  Hi everybody. I'm developing an augmented reality application for Android that uses the phone's camera to recognise the arrangement of the coloured squares on each face of a Rubik's Cube. One thing that I am unsure about is how exactly I would go about detecting and recognising the coloured squares on each face of the cube. If you look at a Rubik's Cube then you can see that each square is one of six possible colours with a thin black border. This lead me to think that it should be relativly simply to detect a square, possibly using an existing marker detection API. My question is really, has anybody here had any experience with image recognition and Android? Ideally I'd like to be able to implement and existing API, but it would be an interesting project to do from scratch if somebody could point me in the right direction to get started. • How to tell if a datareader is open on a connection and close it

  Hi, I'm setting up a little thing for connection pooling and on of the more common bugs that we have occur(its always an easy fix, but we just can't remember reader.Close()!) it is when we have a connection that is used by a lot of classes/methods and one method opens a data reader and forgets to close it. This isn't really bad cause a lot of times all you have to do is go into the debugger and go up one level and see the function before it was and check if it had an unclosed data reader. Now, here is the bigger problem. In this connection pool, if a datareader is open, then it's not known until a thread gets a connection and tries to use it and the thing that originally opened the data reader may no longer even be alive. So quite simply, how can you detect if a data reader is open on a connection and is there a way to close the reader without closing the connection?

• What is the difference between an Abstract Syntax Tree and a Concrete Syntax Tree?

  I've been reading a bit about how interpreters/compilers work, and one area where I'm getting confused is the difference between an AST and a CST. My understanding is that the parser makes a CST, hands it to the semantic analyzer which turns it into an AST. However, my understanding is that the semantic analyzer simply ensures that rules are followed. I don't really understand why it would actually make any changes to make it abstract rather than concrete. Is there something that I'm missing about the semantic analyzer, or is the difference between an AST and CST somewhat artificial?

• newbie question -- how does one override show for a newtype?

  I want to override the default integer constructors in Haskell so they produce strings (mostly for curiosity, but temporarily to make a nice input alternative for LaTeX's \frac{}{} inconvenience). I wanted to be able to use the language itself, instead of a special parser, but I guess that's probably not going to work out... module Main where import Prelude hiding ((+)) newtype A = A Int deriving (Eq, Show, Num) default (A) (+) :: A -> (A -> String) (A a) + (A b) = (show a) ++ " + " ++ (show b) main2 = 3+4 main :: IO () main = putStrLn main2 The problem with the above is that the + function only works for (A, A) instead of (A, String), etc. If one simply leaves out the pattern match "(A a)" and writes "a" instead, then the show() function prepends "A " so "3" becomes "A 3" instead of just "3". I want to override Show for A, but it seems to be quite a headache...

  Hi all, if you wanted to manipulate the data in a table in a postgresql database using some python (maybe running a little analysis on the result set using scipy) and then wanted to export that data back into another table in the same database, how would you go about the implementation? Is the only/best way to do this to simply run the query, have python store it in an array, manipulate the array in python and then run another sql statement to output to the database?   A contrived example: signature A = sig type t val x: t end signature B = sig type t val y: t end signature C = sig include A B end Obviously, this will cause complaints that type t occurs twice in C. But is there any way to express that I want the two ts to be equated, ending up with: signature C = sig type t val x: t val y: t end I tried all sorts of silly syntax like include B where type t = A.t, which unsurprisingly didn't work. Is there something I've forgotten to try? Also, I know that this would be simply answered by checking the language's syntax for anything obvious (or a lack of), but I couldn't find a complete grammar anywhere on the internet. (FWIW, the actual reason I'm trying to do this is Haskell-style monads and such, where a MonadPlus is just a mix of a Monad and an Alternative; at the moment I'm just repeating the contents of ALTERNATIVE in MONAD_PLUS, which strikes me as less than ideal.)

• Database Schema for survey polling application with a default choice.

  I have a survey application, where users can create surveys and give choices for every survey. Other users can choose their answers for the aurvey and then polls are taken to get the results of the survey. I already have the database schema for this Questions id, user_id, category_id, question_text, date_started Answers id, user_id, question_id, choice_id, explanation, date_added Choices id, question_id, choice_text As for now, users can choose their own choice answers to their surveys... but I want to be able to add a default "I dont care" or "I dont know" choice to every survey for people who simply dont care about the topic to take sides or who cant choose. So lets say theres a survey that asks who was a better president, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagon, or Richard Nixon... I want to be able to add a default "I dont care" option. I was thinking to just add that extra choice EVERY TIME a user creates a survey, but then I wouldn't have much control over the text for that choice after that survey has been created, and I want to know if theres a better way to do this, like create another table or something Thanks

• serving large file using select, epoll or kqueue

  Nginx uses epoll, or other multiplexing techniques(select) for its handling multiple clients, i.e it does not spawn a new thread for every request unlike apache. I tried to replicate the same in my own test program using select. I could accept connections from multiple client by creating a non-blocking socket and using select to decide which client to serve. My program would simply echo their data back to them .It works fine for small data transfers (some bytes per client) The problem occurs when I need to send a large file over a connection to the client. Since i have only one thread to serve all client till the time I am finished reading the file and writing it over to the socket i cannot resume serving other client. Is there a known solution to this problem, or is it best to create a thread for every such request ?

  I think I might be overtired but I cannot for the life of me make sense of this, and I think it's due to a lack of knowledge of javascript var itv=function(){ return setInterval(function(){ sys.puts('interval'); }, 1000); } var tout=function(itv){ return setTimeout(function(){ sys.puts('timeout'); clearInterval(itv); }, 5500); } With these two functions I can call a=tout(itv()); and get a looping timer to run for 5.5 seconds and then exit, essentially.   I am going to need to do some development with Eclipse JDT while on holiday. I will be off-line for the most of the time and therefore I will not be able to access the Eclipse JDT API documentation on the Web. I can't find a link to download the documentation in ZIP or PDF or, best of all, CHM format. Does anyone have a copy? Could you please provide a download link to it? Do you think I should use HTTRack to simply mirror the above-mentioned website? I would really rather not. CHM is rather convenient for exploring any kind of API documentation. Anyone differs in opinion?

• Can I redistribute Phing with non-free software?

  I am having trouble understanding the terms of the LGPL in light of a program that is not written in C or C++. They speak of libraries being linked and 'derivitive' works. If I were to package a php program and sell it, but within the program the deployment mechanism used the phing package (full up with the entire contents as is and un modified) - would I be violating the terms of the LGPL? For example, If this was a C program that was compiled by linking the phing 'library' then the answer would be easier, it is a derivitive work and therefore unless released under the GPL will not be considered free and also a violation. But this situation is different. I am not linking and not producing a derivitive, i am simply using phing as a deployment tool to move files around and set up the enviornment. Can someone shed some light? Thank you!

• vb.net pdf reader load problem

  From the tools menu I have done right clickchoose itemCOM (tab) and ticked adobe pdf reader. From here I simply dragged the pdf tool onto my form. That's all I've done. Now on form load it throws a bug. "InvalidOperationException was unhandled" hovering over the message it says the following, An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)) Any ideas anyone? Gonna take a mastermind to work this one out seriously
