• Another favicon not working in IE...

  Hi, I've read through and tried all the favicon fixes already posted. Including: Refreshing the cache Using a different favicon that works on other websites Using a favicon generating website Using a Photoshop favicon plugin Using an absolute path Using a relative path It works fine in all the other browsers. I'm using IE8 in Vista via Parallels on a Mac. • General type conversion without risking Exceptions

  I am working on a control that can take a number of different datatypes (anything that implements IComparable). I need to be able to compare these with another variable passed in. If the main datatype is a DateTime, and I am passed a String, I need to attempt to convert the String to a DateTime to perform a Date comparison. if the String cannot be converted to a DateTime then do a String comparison. So I need a general way to attempt to convert from any type to any type. Easy enough, .Net provides us with the TypeConverter class. Now, the best I can work out to do to determine if the String can be converted to a DateTime is to use exceptions. If the ConvertFrom raises an exception, I know I cant do the conversion and have to do the string comparison. But this is not an exceptional situation. I need another way around it. Most variable types have a TryParse method which returns a boolean to allow you to determine if the conversion has succeeded or not. But there is no TryConvert method available to TypeConverter. CanConvertFrom only dermines if it is possible to convert between these types and doesnt consider the actual data to be converted. The IsValid method is also useless. Any ideas? EDIT I cannot use AS and IS. I do not know either data types at compile time. So I dont know what to As and Is to!!! EDIT Ok nailed the bastard. Its not as tidy as Marc Gravells, but it works (I hope). Thanks for the inpiration Marc.   hello! I have an animation block that worked fine when runnung the app on iphone OS 2.2. Now I compile the same code for iphone OS 3.0 and it doesn't work. UIViewAnimationTransition trans = UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromLeft; [UIView beginAnimations: nil context: NULL]; UIView *forview = [[self view] superview]; [UIView setAnimationTransition: trans forView:forview cache: YES]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; [[self navigationController] popViewControllerAnimated:NO]; [UIView commitAnimations]; What the code does, it uses the navigation controller to change the top most view, but with the flip transition and not with the built in one. any ideas on what might have change in the sdk or what I'm doing wrong? thanks!!

The use of this context can result in unexpected behavior for serialization, casting and dependency resolution. In almost all cases, it is recommended that the LoadFrom context be avoided. This can be done by installing assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache or in the ApplicationBase directory and using Assembly.Load when explicitly loading assemblies. It's nightmare for me...!!! I have written a query that simply joins them, but in the case that the forum cache table contains an unapproved forum id, it will simply not return the entire row. what I really need is for query1 and query2 to be left joined on the category id, and for query 3 to be left outer joined on id = catID.

• NoSQL vs Ehcache caching advise for speeding up read only mysql Database

  I'm building a Route Planner Webapp using Spring/Hibernate/Tomcat and a mysql database, I have a database containing read only data, such as Bus Stop Coordinates, Bus times which is never updated. I'm trying to make the app run faster, each time the application is run it will preform approx 1000 reads to the database to calculate a route. I have setup a Ehcache which greatly improves the read from database times. I'm now setting terracotta + Ehcache distributed caching to share the cache with multiple Tomcat JVMs. This seems a bit complicated. I've tried memcached but it was not performing as fast as ehcache. I'm wondering if a MongoDb or Redis would be better suited. I have no experience with nosql but I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas. What i need is quick access to the read only database.

The response the server is actually sending back is: jsonp1276109314602({"message":"I'm getting tired of this not working"}) The jsonp1276109314602 method name is being randomly generated by jquery, and I'm grabbing it with Request.QueryString["callback"] However my success function is never called and the firebug console gives me an error saying jsonp1276109314602 is not defined. What am I doing wrong?

  I've just started getting this Javascript error running VS2010 with SL4 Error: Unhandled Error in Silverlight Application Code: 2104 Category: InitializeError Message: Could not download the Silverlight application. Check web server settings Everything was working fine, changed 1 line of code to use a RegularExpression in the web project (using the Silverlight Business Application template) then when rebuilding I get this error. Google says this is IIS and mimetype related. I'm using Cassini not IIS with VS2010. Rebooted, cleared xap from IE cache. Error on both IE and FF. What could be wrong?

  Hi, I have this strange problem with ehcache 2.0 that I hope someone can help me with. I have set up a cluster of two hosts, A and B. I can see that heartbeats are received at both ends, so I'm pretty sure the networking and multicast stuff is working. The problem is that is I put an element into the cache at host A, I can see in the logs of host B that it receives a remote put. But when I request the same element from host B, it runs off to the data base and performs a query nonetheless. What may be the cause of this? Thankful for any pointers!

  Hello all, I am developing a C# application in VS 2010 that is to be deployed via ClickOnce. However when I try to deploy the application on a client machine I get the following error: Unable to install or run the application. The application requires the assembly Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.9.0 Version 9.0.0.0 to be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first. I have tried to include the missing assembly into the application files under Project Properties-Publish tab, but the error remains the same. Next I tried to add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.9.0 to the project's references, but I cannot find it in the reference list. Does anyone have any tips or solutions to this problem. Thanks in advance.

• Google App Engine - Figure out the time the current request reached the app engine

  Is there a way I can figure out the time the current request reached the app engine? For example a user might make a request to my app, but due to app engine latencies my code might not start handling the request until one second later, is there a way I can figure out that the user has already had to wait one second? The reason I want to know how to do this is because I want to do different things based on if the user already had to wait. If the user already had to wait a significant amount of time I will just serve them a page out of the cache, if the user hasn't had to wait yet then I will serve them a page which takes a while to render.

• Using truncate table alongside Hibernate?

  Is it OK to truncate tables while at the same time using Hibernate to insert data? We parse a big XML file with many relationships into Hibernate POJO's and persist to the DB. We are now planning on purging existing data at certain points in time by truncating the tables. Is this OK? It seems to work fine. We don't use Hibernate's second level cache. One thing I did notice, which is fine, is that when inserting we generate primary keys using Hibernate's @GeneratedValue where Hibernate just uses a key value one greater than the highest value in the table - and even though we are truncating the tables, Hibernate remembers the prior value and uses prior value + 1 as opposed to starting over at 1. This is fine, just unexpected. Note that the reason we do truncate as opposed to calling delete() on the Hibernate POJO's is for speed. We have gazillions of rows of data, and truncate is just so much faster.

  Hey guys, I currently have a host where my main site is hosted on. I have set up nginx on another server to mirror/cache files being requested if it doesn't have it already, in particular images and flv videos. For example: www.domain.com is my main site. www.domain.com/video/video.flv www.domain.com/images/1.png I would like to ask apache to redirect it to imgserv.domain.com (imgserv.domain.com points to another server IP) imgserv.domain.com/video/video.flv imgserv.domain.com/images/1.png Basically redirect everything with certain filetypes and preserving the structure of the URL, like flv etc. I tried something but I am getting a redirect looping error. Could someone help me out? Thank you!

• UIView removeFromSuperView animation delay

  I have a method which animates one of the subviews of UIWindow and then removes it from UIWindow using removeFromSuperview. But when I put removeFromSuperview after animation block, the animation never shows, because removeFromSuperview removes the UIView from UIWindow before the animation plays :-( How can I delay removeFromSuperview so the animation plays first, and then subview is removed? I tried [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:1]; after animation block but that didn't have desired effect, because animation sleeps too for some reason.   I have a few questions about Core Location. 1) Should the user refuse permission for my app to use core location, or core location is unavailable for some reason, is there a fallback? (Device Locale, for example?) 2)Can I cache a device's location for next time? Does Core Location do this itself? 3)I really need the sunset time in the user's area during the mid-spring season and I have a function to do that, once I have the Latitude and Longitude of the device. Perhaps I can just make an assumption about the time based on Locale? (Example: In the US, assume approximately 7:00pm.)

  Hi, I'm trying to get a page with an ISO-8859-1 encoding clicking on a link, so the code is similar to this: page_result = page.link_with( :text => 'link_text' ).click So far I get the result with a wrong encoding, so I see characters like: 'T?tulo:' instead of 'Título:' I've tried several approaches, including: Stating the encoding in the first request using the agent like: @page_search = @agent.get( :url => 'http://www.server.com', :headers => { 'Accept-Charset' => 'ISO-8859-1' } ) Stating the encoding for the page itself page_result.encoding = 'ISO-8859-1' But I must be doing something wrong: a simple puts always show the wrong characters. • Client side caching in GWT

  We have a gwt-client, which recieves quite a lot of data from our servers. Logically, i want to cache the data on the client side, sparing the server from unnecessary requests. As of today i have let it up to my models to handle the caching of data, which doesn't scale very well. It's also become a problem since different developers in our team develop their own "caching" functionality, which floods the project with duplications. I'm thinking about how one could implement a "single point of entry", that handles all the caching, leaving the models clueless about how the caching is handled. Does anyone have any experience with client side caching in GWT? Is there a standard approach that can be implemented?
