  Say the source data comes in excel format, below is how I import the data. Converting to csv format via MS Excel Roughly find bad rows/columns by inspecting backup the table that needs to be updated in SQL Query Analyzer truncate the table (may need to drop foreign key constraint as well) import data from the revised csv file in SQL Server Enterprise Manager If there's an error like duplicate columns, I need to check the original csv and remove them I was wondering how to make this procedure more effecient in every step? I have some idea but not complete. For step 2&6, using scripts that can check automatically and print out all error row/column data. So it's easier to remove all errors once. For step 3&5, is there any way to automatically update the table without manually go through the importing steps? Could the community advise, please? Thanks.

• Best way to move a bunch of SQL Server 2005 tables to another Server?

  I've been looking for a way to move a bunch of tables, more than 40, to another server with all the data in them. I've looked around for scripts to generate inserts but so far I'd have to run them once for every table, then copy all the scripts over and then run them on the server. Seems like there is a better way. --Update-- My strategy for doing this may have been for naught. The end script, using MS SQL Server Publishing Wizard and Red Gates SQL Data Compare (excellent tool, btw) results in a file over 1GB. This makes my system plead for mercy and I'm not willing to risk crashing a clients server just opening the file to run it. I may have to rethink this whole thing and break down to just individual per table scripts. I'm not looking forward to that.

  I'm looking into porting a script engine written for Windows to Linux; it's for Winamp's visualization platform AVS. I'm not sure if it's even possible at the moment. From what I can tell the code is taking the addresses of the C functions nseel_asm_atan and nseel_asm_atan_end and storing them inside a table that it can reference during code execution. I've looked at MS's documentation, but I'm unsure what __declspec(naked) really does. What is prolog and epilog code mentioned in the documentation? Is that related to Windows calling conventions? Is this portable? • Would like help with LOGON Trigger

  I've created a logon trigger in MS SQL that needs to check dm_exec_sessions for a login. This login is the user listed in the connection string and has owner right to the database. If the login is verified, I need it to update a specific table and send an email. So far I've done just the following piece and it disabled my web site. The error I get is: "Logon failed for login 'dev' due to trigger execution. Changed database context to 'mydatabase'. Changed language setting to us_english." Any idea what I did wrong? • building an ASP NET MVC site, should i go with linq to sql?

  so i'm about to start a new website from scratch and i've spent about a week trying to figure out what technology to go with. i'm sold on ASP NET MVC. i'm 100% sure i'm going to love using that. but what i am not so sure about yet is using LINQ 2 SQL. so far i've gathered some data... 1) stack overflow uses it - can't be that bad 2) can be REALLY slow if you don't take advantage of compiled queries 3) will always be slower than ADO net, but can be almost just as fast if using #2 in the proper places 4) is NOT the preferred MS solution (there was a thread here on SO about dropping support) i'm itching to use it, but just want to make sure it's the best for me. i come from a heavy ADO/stored procedure and traditional asp net background (this will be my first experience with ASP MVC).

  There is a PrintingPermission attribute in the framework which takes a PrintingPermissionLevel enumeration with one of these values; NoPrinting: Prevents access to printers. NoPrinting is a subset of SafePrinting. SafePrinting: Provides printing only from a restricted dialog box. SafePrinting is a subset of DefaultPrinting. DefaultPrinting: Provides printing programmatically to the default printer, along with safe printing through semirestricted dialog box. DefaultPrinting is a subset of AllPrinting. AllPrinting: Provides full access to all printers. The documentation is really sparse, and I wondered if anyone can tell me more about the SafePrinting option. What does the documentation mean when it says "Provides printing only from a restricted dialog box." I have no idea what this means. Can anyone shed any light? This subject is touched in the MS certification 70-505: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Forms Application Development and so I'm keen to find out more.

• Solr adding document cycle & wait on response issue

  I am trying to send http post request to Solr for adding 50000 documents (all individual request one after another in while loop). I am using DefaultHttpClient in java to connect to Solr and when I use execute method on my HttpPost Solr takes 3 to 4 ms to response. I have commit=false, autoCommit=false, autoSoftCommit=false. My question is why it takes that much time to response and why cycle it follows to add new document. Basically I want to send add request but do not want to commit to see how many request can Solr handle without doing any kind of commits(without having to do any disk access). My guess is with above parameter tuned off I should be hitting Solr about 10000 times every second, but my result is 300 times a second. I am generating random data to add in my code.

• Manipulating both unicode and ASCII character set in C#

  I have this mapping in my C# application string [,] unicode2Ascii = { { "&#3001;", "\x86" } }; ஹ - is the unicode value for a tamil literal "ஹ". This is the raw hex literal for the unicode value saved by MS Word as a byte sequence. I am trying to map these unicode value "strings" to a hex value under 255 (so as to accommodate non-unicode supported systems). I trying to use string.replace like this: S = S.replace(unicode2Ascii[0,0], unicode2Ascii[0,1]); However the resultant ouput has a ? instead of the actual hex 0x86 stored. Any pointer on how I could set the encoding for the second element of that array to something like windows-1252? Or is there a better way to do this conversion? thanks in advance

For instance, if your phone number is 555-555-5555 and your wireless carrier is Verizon, you can send an email to [email protected] and it will show up as a text message. I want to be able to include a newline in the body of the message. How do I do this? Also please note that my ASP.Net program gets the message from a database (MS SQL Server) so what I really need to know is what characters to include in the message body when I store it in my database. • Marvell C++ compiler (for Windows CE) for building Qt

  Hello, I was able to build Qt 4.5 for Windows CE (ARM4VI) using MS VisualC++ compiler. Now, I am trying to compile Qt 4.5 for Windows CE 5.0 using Marvel C++ compiler v 2.2 (former Intel C++ compiler for XScale architecture) for achieving some performance benefit. It seems, that this compiler not officially supported for building Qt by trolltech (no appropriate mkspec in mkspec's folder of Qt folder). So, my questions: Is it worth to trying build Qt by this compiler for achieving performance enhancement ? Is there any way for building Qt using Marvell C++ compiler (by creating my own mkspec or something like that)?

  I have a macro which can read the last cell/column of all tables in a Word 2003/2007 document and store the data in an MS-Access table. But, some Word documents have the data in structures like a table format but are not actually tables. The structure looks like a table, but the table borders are actually line connectors. These documents were created by a software(VeryPDF PDF to Word converter) which converted the PDF documents(the original format these documents were) into Word documents. Is there a way I can convert/replace the tabular structures with actual tables in Word so that I can use the macro? Or, is there a way I can read the value of the last column from the tabular structures using some VBA code? Any advice would be appreciated.

  Hi I am trying to find rows that are not in one table and insert them into another. The table I am trying to insert into has less columns then the other one. These columns are null but it would be cool if I could hardcode a value before I do the insert. But I am having so much trouble with just trying to get it to insert. I have something like this SELECT p.ProductId, p.ProductName INTO SomeTable FROM Product as p WHERE p.ProductName != 'iPad' I will get a error like this though Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The multi-part identifier "p.ProductId" could not be bound. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I copied and pasted the names in so I don't think it is a spelling mistake. I am using ms sql 2005 express.

• Fastest way for inserting very large number of records into a Table in SQL

  The problem is, we have a huge number of records (more than a million) to be inserted into a single table from a Java application. The records are created by the Java code, it's not a move from another table, so INSERT/SELECT won't help. Currently, my bottleneck is the INSERT statements. I'm using PreparedStatement to speed-up the process, but I can't get more than 50 recods per second on a normal server. The table is not complicated at all, and there are no indexes defined on it. The process takes too long, and the time it takes will make problems. What can I do to get the maximum speed (INSERT per second) possible? Database: MS SQL 2008. Application: Java-based, using Microsoft JDBC driver.

• Leaving SQL Management open on the internet

  I am a developer, but every so often need access to our production database -- yeah, poor practice, but anyway... My boss doesn't want me directly on the box using RDP, and so we decided to just permit MS SQL Management Console access so that I can do my tasks. So right now we have the SQL box somewhat accessible on the internet (on port 1433 if I am not mistaken), which opens a security hole. But I am wondering, how much of an uncommon practice is this, and what defaults should I be concerned about? We use MSSQL2008 and I created an account that has Read-Only access, because my production tasks only need that. I didn't see any unusual default accounts with default passwords on the system, so I would be interested to hear your take. (And of-course, is there a better way?)

• Edit strings vars in compiled exe? C++ win32

  I want to have a few strings in my c++ app and I want to be able to edit them later in the deployed applications (the compiled exe), Is there a way to make the exe edit itself or it resources so I can update the strings value? The app checks for updates on start, so I'm thinking about using that to algo send the command when I need to edit the strings (for example the string that contains the url used to check for updates). I don't want to use anything external to the exe, I could simply use the registry but I prefer to keep everything inside the exe. I am using visual studio 2010 c++ (or any other version of ms visual c++).

  Hi, I am very new to Visual C++ programming, but I have to write simple program which needs to do two things: ( I am using MS Visual C++ ) main ( parent ) form should be displayed when program starts, and after clicking a button on it, second form should be shown. Second form ( child ) also has a button, but this one should ( after clicking, of course ) show current X,Y child form position but on ( important ): parent form. And this is where i got stuck. I can display child form with: a) adding #include "child.h" in parent form.h b) adding child ^child_form; in public: section and afterwards using: child_form = gcnew child(); child_form-Show(); I was googling for two days now and cannot find a way to get it the other way: click on a button on child_form and display it's coordinates on parent form on label-text :/ when i tried to add #include "child.h" in child_form I just got error saying: "there are to many include files..." I really need to get this done and I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance :)

I thought I had the solution with a simple SQL statement (MS SQL Server 2005) but I want to exclude weekends. SELECT DATEDIFF(D, StartDate, EndDate)+1 AS Days, COUNT(ID) as Count FROM myDateTable GROUP BY DATEDIFF(D, StartDate, EndDate) This gives a record set of: Days Count 1 4 2 2 4 1 7 2 Is this possible to exclude the weekends in the SQL statement and if not can it be done using ASP and a array perhaps?

The data is being updated once a day (nightly). I would like to pre-generate the data for the said view to speed up the page access. For that I am creating a table that contains exact data I need. Question: for my situation, is it reasonable to do complete table wipe followed by insert? or should I do update,insert?   I'm starting a conversion of a system from MS SQL Server to Postgres. I have the table structures converted, and I use "bcp" to get the data out of SQL Server. ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x80 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encoding expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding". CONTEXT: COPY cm_outgoing, line 200: "200 c:\temp\200.xml 2009-10-10 01:50:44.000 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000" I've already used "sed" to get rid of the NUL (0x00) entries in the file, and I can't find any instances of 0x80 in the file that I'm trying to import. Any thoughts? Is there an easier way?

  Hi; I'm trying to register a simple MSV1_0 subauthentication package for MS Windows Server 2003. I created a dll which implements required functions described in MSDN. I copied my dll to system32 folder. After that, I created a registry key Auth255 (I also tried Auth128) with a REG_SZ value ,which specifies my dll name, to this location; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0. I expect that it will create a test.txt file for debugging puposes when the dll is called, but it doesn't create the file. How can I make this work?   Ok what im trying to do is a kind of audio processing software that can detect a prevalent frequency an if the frequency is played for long enough (few ms) i know i got a positive match. i know i would need to use FFT or something simiral but in this field of math i suck, i did search the internet but didn not find a code that could do only this. the goal im trying to accieve is to make myself a custom protocol to send data trough sound, need very low bitrate per sec but im also very limited on the transmiting end so the recieving software will need to be able custom (cant use an actual hardware/software modem) also i want this to be software only (no additional hardware except soundcard) thanks alot for the help.

  Hi I am wondering is there a way to do batch updating? I am using ms sql server 2005. I saw away with the sqlDataAdaptor but it seems like you have to first the select statement with it, then fill some dataset and make changes to dataset. Now I am using linq to sql to do the select so I want to try to keep it that way. However it is too slow to do massive updates. So is there away that I can keep my linq to sql(for the select part) but using something different to do the mass update? Thanks

  Hi, I'm using MS log application block for logging my application event into a file called app-trace.log which located on the c:\temp folder. I'm trying to find the best way to read this file at runtime and display it when the user asks for it. now i have 2 issues: it seems that this kind of feature is not supported by the framework, hence i have to write this reader myself. am i missing something here? is there any better way of getting this data (w/o buffering it in the memory or saving it into another file). if i'm taking the only alternative that left for me, and implementing the reader myself, when i'm tring to do: System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(@"c:\temp\app-trace.log", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); i'm getting "File being used by another process c#", probably the file is locked by the application block. is there any way to access and read it anyhow?
